He had lasted through the funeral, not a single tear had left his crimson eyes, he stayed strong holding Yugi tightly as his Hikari broke down after laying his roses down upon each of the three graves. Even as the rain poured down and the overwhelming urge to scream ripped through him, he stayed strong and comforting to all those around him. Seto, even, had broken down partially, his cold exterior broken fully. Yes, the CEO had only shed a few tears, but it still showed at least that he cared. But at the moment all that mattered to Yami was giving Yugi someone strong to hold onto, and that person was him.
Royan and Nick had come along, paid their respects to two people that they had never known in their lives, but still vaguely cared about by the reminiscences that they received from the group over the last two nights. They laid down their white roses on the freshly covered graves, the dark earth damp from the rain.
Umbrella's surrounded them as everyone listened to the last prayer and the song from the rather small choir of wonderful small children. Nothing but black outfits, pale and melancholy faces, tears of mourning, and whispered words. Yami confirmed it to himself then, he despised funerals.
Gently he led his Hikari back towards the limo, Yugi wrapped an arm around his waist and leaned against his stronger frame, he felt Yugi shiver and stopping a moment removed his jacket and draped it around Yugi. Yugi glanced up at him with uncertainty, “aren't you cold, and your chest should not be exposed to this cold Yami, neither should your head for that matter, please take the jacket”.
“I'm not the one shivering,” he stated firmly before gently urging Yugi to continue walking through the grass of the cemetery, “I'll be fine,” he assured knowing that Yugi wanted to protest.
The ride home was silent. Joey, Mokuba, Bakura, Royan, and Nick stared out the windows of the vehicle, while Yami held Yugi tightly to him, trying to keep him warm, along with himself since he was now soaking wet in nothing but a sleeveless turtleneck shirt. Seto on the other hand was in his own little world, cerulean eyes fixed on his hands which were folded in his lap, to him at the moment they seemed to be the most fascinating thing on the planet.
Inside Yami had helped Yugi upstairs and into a hot bath, by then it was late in the evening, the funeral had begun at four and ended just after six. Royan assigned herself to cooking supper, Joey readily helping her. Nick and Seto began to pour over the computers in desperation to decipher more about their adversaries, while Mokuba tidied up the living room so that Bakura and him could watch the TV to relax before the meal.
Heading into his bedroom Yami sat himself down on the window seat, he was going to wait for supper time before he was going to make Yugi leave that comforting heat, it was the only thing keeping the smaller teenager from catching a cold, besides it allowed him to relax. Heaving a sigh he winced at the pain in his torso and head at the action, moaning he laid back on the cushioned window seat and placed his hand over his brow. He desperately wanted to take a bath, the chill running through his spine told him that he was catching something, but he knew that he allowed Yugi to use up most of the hot water. Shivering he huddled into himself, absently he reached between his legs towards the edge of the seat, idly pawing around for the blanket that he remembered was there. Finding it he pulled it up and covered his shivering form with it. Satisfied he glanced out the window into the lawn, the pouring rain was brightened by the lights that were on down on the main floor, and in the hospital section of the house. It was eerie in a sense and he shuddered before closing his eyes.
He needed some release, it had amazed him that he had lasted this long without breaking down and crying, he knew it was coming, but he was betting that it would transpire extremely soon, and what he feared was that he would be in front of everyone else. It would break his pride; he had broken it once already by admitting to Yugi that he was afraid of their new adversary, which in all truths he was, but that does not mean he wanted to voice it. The others depended on him, his strength, and if he broke they would be all over him, something he did not want. In fact, he wanted to be along when he allowed his tears to fall.
Exhaling a shaky breath he rose to his feet, he knew how to release himself, he remembered vaguely Seto showing him a grand piano somewhere on the main floor. Yugi had taken piano lessons until Duelist Kingdom, since then he had stopped, but Yami had continued, using the piano that they had in the living room and teaching himself, using the internet and video tapes to guide him. Besides, even though he found it hard to believe, Yugi had told him that he was an exceptional singer, where he got that talent from he had no idea but he planned to use the music to soothe him as to prolong the moment that the torrent of tears would overwhelm him.
Making his way down the stairs he barely acknowledged Mokuba and Bakura before he made his way towards the room with the piano. Pushing open double glass doors he stepped into a rather spacious room. The far wall was almost completely windows, allowing the sight of the rain to fill his vision. Deciding against blinding himself with the light for the room, he set about gathering the candles. Lighting them as best he could he placed them around him, the softness of their light soothing him already. Turning he sat down on the smooth padded bench of the immense and black grand piano. It was beautiful in his eyes. Delicately he placed his hands on the keys and pressed down on the f and d, it was in tune. Glade that the room was fairly sound proof he began to gracefully run through a song that he knew well, it had been played on a TV show that Yugi so loved when one of the characters passed on.
And in your eyes I see ribbons of color
I see us inside of each other
I feel my unconscious merge with yours
And I hear a voice say "What's his is hers"
I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you
I was afraid to let you in here
Now I have learned love can't be made in fear
The walls begin to tumble down
And I can't even see the ground
I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you
Falling like a leaf, falling like a star
Finding a belief, falling where you are
Catch me, don't let me drop!
Love me, don't ever stop!
So close your eyes and let me kiss you
And while you sleep I will miss you
I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you
Falling like a leaf, falling like a star
Finding a belief, falling where you are
Falling into you
Falling into you
Falling into you
I see us inside of each other
I feel my unconscious merge with yours
And I hear a voice say "What's his is hers"
I'm falling into you
This dream could come true
And it feels so good falling into you

Now I have learned love can't be made in fear

In the study on the main floor Seto and Nick raised their heads as they vaguely heard the sound of a piano playing and a gorgeous honeyed, rich, and melodic voice ring out from across the hallway, it was faint, but every so angelic and mournful. The tune was beautiful, setting a mood instantly and the sweet voice just added to it. In Seto's ears the voice sounded familiar; similar to one he heard everyday just in a different form. They glanced at each other, nodded in confirmation and rising to their feet vacated the room.
Stepping into the hallway they were met by the others sitting outside the door, silent and concentrating as the listened to the sound of the piano and that voice. There was only one person missing, Yami. Glancing through the glass Seto gasped in shock, Yami sat on the piano bench, smooth fingers gliding over the keys of the piano gracefully as they played out the rhythm. The voice, squinting he confirmed that the voice was coming from Yami and not from a CD player. Turning his gaze to Yugi he silently asked, “Since when could he play the piano and sing so well”.
“He's been able to do this for a while. He learned from what I knew, and he's been obsessed with the piano we have at home, it's where he releases. Music helps him. And whether he likes to admit it or not, he is a damn good singer and pianist,” Yugi expounded before placing a finger over his mouth, “now shush so I can listen”.
Blinking Seto shut off all thought in his mind and allowed the music to fill his head as another hypnotic song began to play out, and within moments that beautiful voice rang out again, mingling perfectly with the pianos tone. When it stopped Seto had to shake his head to knock his mind back into reality, his jaw had dropped open at one point in awe and he closed it, gods could Yami ever capture a crowd.
The silence was broken with the echoing sound of breaking glass and the alarm in the house booming loudly. The double doors slammed open and Yami stared at each of them in shock before glancing upstairs, “Seto, Nick, with me, the rest of you, get out of here,” he snapped before dashing up the stairs, he needed to get to the puzzle, and fast.
Taking the stairs two steps at a time with Seto and Nick running behind him Yami sprang into the hallway and dashed headlong towards his bedroom, stopping at the door he grasped the handle and turned, hearing a small click and finding that it would not budge he growled, “shit, it's locked”.
“Smash it down Yami,” insisted Seto, “I'll go get a few guns for us, Nick help him,” he instructed before sprinting to his bedroom. Yami glanced at him briefly before turning his attention back on the door, stepping back he prepared himself, this was going to be painful on his small body, especially for his chest. Taking a breath he burst forward, ramming his shoulder into the wood door, it shook on its hinges briefly before it buckled under the force, flinging it open and causing Yami to stumble. When he lifted his head he found the barrel of a gun pointed at his temple.
“Looking for something Yami,” came Toran's deep, menacing voice.
Yami hissed and allowed his eyes to adjust to the dark before he straightened out staring straight into Toran's luminous brown eyes, “my puzzle actually,” he stated defiantly.
Toran smiled, “its right here,” he said snapping his fingers, immediately the lights were switched on by one of the men near the door, Yami and Nick both moaned and covered their eyes briefly before their pupils reduced in size and their eyes adjusted. Yami held his breath roughly as the puzzle came into his view, a man that held a similar appearance to Nick stood nearby, distinguishable amongst the ten others that had gathered in the room, a M4 riffle in his hands with the end pointing at Yami's torso, the puzzle was around his neck.
“Its no good to you without me Toran,” Yami snapped.
“I know, that's why I am retrieving you tonight as well. Surrender yourself, or Nick dies,” Toran said making M4 he carried evident as the tip pressed into Yami's broken ribs, “its now or never”.
“Fuck you,” the former Pharaoh growled, “touch him and I'll show you what I can do. Last time you caught me off guard, this time I'm ready”.
“Really now,” Toran chuckled, “you have no memory of your past, therefore you have no recollections on how to fight, you are defenseless, those pathetic muscles have gone to waste under your skin from under use”.
“Then drop your gun and prove it, prove it to me that I don't remember how to fight,” Yami challenged, spreading his arms wide, “if I win you give me the puzzle and we'll continue our little battle, sound good”.
For a moment Toran considered it, reluctance showing in his eyes, he knew that Yami still had instincts, that was good enough, “no, Yami, I won't fight you for those stakes, if you get the puzzle back then you will more than likely be able to win this battle”.
“Figures, you are just like every other coward that I've faced,” Yami spat crossing his arms, ignoring the M4 barrel that was pressing painfully against his chest, “then stop standing there and take me out, I surrender”.
Toran seemed unconvinced by the tone in his voice, it held more challenge in it then surrender. Snarling he shifted his gun to the side and grabbed Yami's arm, handing the gun to one of the men nearby he pulled out a S&W 10mm to his neck. He was shocked and suspicious as to why Yami was not struggling, what was the Pharaoh planning.
Suddenly the sound of metal being slid across the hard wood caught their attention, Nick ducked down and picked up the Beretta that Seto had pushed towards him, lifting it he nodded at Yami before firing at the others, avoiding his brother as best as he could. Kosey ducked down behind the bed as the other men went down screaming, bullets hitting the bullet proof vests they wore briefly winding them, sure Nick had a rusty shot with a handgun but he was hitting his targets at least. Clutching the puzzle to his breast tightly he stayed put.
Ramming his elbow into Toran's stomach Yami felt the man buckle and left go of him, taking his advantage he slammed his heel into Toran's shin before spinning on his opposite foot and brining his other up in a high kick, his foot meeting squarely with Toran's jaw. Collapsing to the ground Toran watched as his gun flew out of his reach on the floor, desperately he tried to reach out for it but Yami's foot slammed down on it, preventing him from reaching it.
As that transpire Seto bolted past Nick and into the room, he was intent on retrieving the puzzle while Yami busied himself with Toran, and Nick kept the men around them pinned down and kicked their weapons away. Moving cautiously around the bed he held out his two Beretta's, Kosey glanced up at him apprehensively, immediately placing his gun on the ground and holding out the puzzle to Seto, they had lost their advantage, for now.
Snatching it from Kosey's hands Seto tossed it towards Yami whom retrieved it immediately. Toran growled angrily, frustrated that they had lost what little of an advantage they had once had, he was about to try and trip Yami when Nick fired a shot that grazed the hair on his head, glancing back at the man he scowled, Nick snarled at him, “touch him once and I'll pull the trigger, and this time I won't miss”.
Reluctantly Toran lay still on the floor, Yami moved away from him all the while clutching the puzzle to his torso desperately, “lets move, we need to get out of here,” he insisted before hurling himself out of the room and down the hallway, Nick and Seto immediately followed, hoping that they had enough of a head start to reach the vehicles in the garage before their adversaries regained their composure and began the chase.
They sprinted through the house, into the kitchen and out into the backyard where Radar was barking furiously, Seto grabbed the dogs collar and ushered him towards the garage nearby. Rain water, cold and painfully heavy, pounded down upon them as they dashed over the grass and towards the garage where the lights were already on, the others had obviously thought of the same thing as they had. Reaching the garage they burst through the doors, surely enough the others had piled into a minivan. Pulling open the sliding doors Yami and Nick pilled in with Radar behind them. Seto jumped into the driver's seat and secured his seat belt, “Hand on everyone,” he advised before clicking the button to open the garage door, “this is going to get rough”.
Yami and Nick were forced to pin themselves the seats on the floor as the van surged forward, jolting everyone within and creating small cries of pain before the van burst down the circular driveway towards the gates. Pressing another button on the dashboard Seto watched as the gates opened just enough for them to spring through. But they did not come out unscathed.
Loud roaring gunshots filled their ears along with glass shattering in the back as bullets slammed into the vehicle, but the van moved on. Hurriedly Bakura and Joey glanced through the back window, their enemies had given up firing through the ran and were now running towards their two SUV's parked out in front of the house.
“Step on it Seto, they're coming after us,” insisted Joey.
“Shut up, I'm going,” Seto snapped before heavily stepping down on the gas. Royan, whom was in the front passenger seat, felt her stomach lurch as she watch the speed climb to well over one hundred and fifty kilometers an hours, subconsciously she grasped onto the handle above her head, immediately she dubbed it the `holy shit' handle.
They roared down the streets of Domino, just barely missing the few vehicles that were out on the roads as they headed as fast as they could towards the highway. Seto planned on heading to the cabin that he had built for Mokuba during the summer time, it was the best place for them to go at the moment. Bakura and Joey watched through the back window like hawks, but luckily there was no sign of their pursuers after twenty minutes of them speeding recklessly down the highway and away from Domino.
On the floor Yami snuggled up to Yugi as best as he could, he was cold from being outside in the rain, and exhausted from the running. Yugi gently stroked his head, running his digits through his smooth hair, slowly lulling him to sleep. Soon, as the vehicle drove on and began to slow down to the required speed on the highway Yami felt his eyelids drooping, and within moments he was sleeping soundly curled up at Yugi's feet on the floor, his lights legs on either side of him as he rested his head in Yugi's lap. He slept.
