Again, like with all my other fics, I am really sorry that this has taken me so long. I have been swamped with school work, and three soccer practices a week, hehe, and well, I had a huge writers block, staring at the screen for hours upon end, but I refuse to give these stories up (DarkLover, this is for you ^^) I hope that all of you enjoy this next chapter. ^_^;

A sudden pain lanced through Yugi's torso, causing him to hunch over in his seat as an anguished moan escaped his lips, his hands desperately gripping his dress shirt in a tight grip as if he was trying to tear it off in hopes that they pain would follow it.
(YAMI!!!!)
Bakura was beside him in an instant, kneeling down and gripping his shoulders as Seto stood from his own seat and moved to kneel beside the hunched hikari. “Yugi, what is it?”
“I… I don't….know,” he murmured, eyes clenched shut in agony only to snap open in realization, violet orbs clouded with fear. “Yami, something is happening to him, something that he cannot block from me.”
Chocolate and cerulean eyes met, both worried before they peered at those around them at the restaurant table. All of them felt the urge to break away, to run outside amidst the gun fire that they could hear and find their friend. While reason held them back, stomping out the idea immediately.
Biting his lip Seto glanced at the door, “Please be alright,” he murmured to himself. “Please be alright Yami.”

(YAMI!!!!)
The sound of the familiar voice calling out his name caught his attention, drowning out everything else as he collapsed to the ground with a cry, pain lancing through him, tearing his torso apart.
Taita toppled to the ground, a surge of agony running through his back seconds before the air was knocked from his lungs as Yami's gaunt form landed upon him, muscles taunt from pain. Gulping down a breath into his lungs like a man suffering from dehydration he shifted underneath the Pharaoh.
Pulling himself out he scrambled to his knees, crouching over a now writing Yami. His sharp eyes instantly spotted the dart protruding from the bandaged section of Yami's torso, he could tell by the thick crimson liquid that was beginning to soak through the silk that it had hit the incision.
Taking the tip of the dart between his thumb and forefinger he yanked it out, wincing as he heard Yami gasp sharply. Biting his lip he covered the wound with his hand, pressing down onto it, trying to stop the bleeding, while his free arm hooked under the Pharaoh's neck and hefted him into a semi-sitting position.
Snarling he snapped his gaze towards the men standing but ten feet from him, “What did you have in that dart, I know Chike would not go through these lengths just to knock him unconscious, what was in that damned dart.”
“Something, dear Magus, that will help out Master Chike immensely,” one answered, icy eyes glaring out at them from under the shadow of his black cowboy hat.
Shifting so that he stood before Yami and Taita, acting as a shield for the two, Tanus growled flashing the blade of his dagger in the moonlight, “Elaborate for us.”
“I'll put it this way,” the man chuckled; his devilish smirk visible in the dark. “He will gradually lose what little memory he has of this time, then he will know nothing for a month or more. He will have no recollection of the events that have transpired from the time he met Yugi, till he looses consciousness in about ten day's time. Simply, really, but effective.”
“Who are you,” Kratus demanded, unsheathing his dagger from his belt.
“Heh,” the man chuckled mockingly, lifting his head so that the moonlight ghosted over his face. “An old friend.”
Clenching her fists in rage Lostris snapped her hand towards the blade at her belt, gripping the handle she whipped it out and prepared to charge, but her brother stopped her, gripping her around the waist with a burly arm while Kratus took over shielding Taita and Yami.
The crease the mans smirk widened, making him appear almost maniacal, “I won't waste my breath on you, woman, the only one I want out of this exchange is the Pharaoh, but I do not want him wounded, I want him in his best shape so that I at least get a fair fight out of it. Good night,” he said with a tip of his hat, then turning strode into one of the nearby alleyways, his men following.
“He must work… for Chike,” Yami chocked out.
“Must,” agreed Taita, glancing into those perfect crimson eyes. “We need to move, now is the best time. The men will be backing away from the ship momentarily, while we need to find the building that we are supposed to be staying in till tomorrow night. I need to treat you before we are going anywhere.”
Groaning Yami closed his eyes as a rush of pain coursed through him, “But what about… what he said… my memories.”
“We will deal with it Yami, I promise,” assured Taita, as Tanus reached down and helped him rise Yami to unsteady limbs. “You will be safe, we should be in the village by the time your memory evades you. I think from there we will give you a little time before we transfer your ancient memories back into you, which was our reasoning for wanting to take you to the village in the first place.”
“But… Yugi… I can't leave him… or the others.”
“Nick is calling one of our friends down in Ethiopia for help, don't worry about them, they will have nearly two hundred well trained soldiers with them in a months time. By then, hopefully your memories of your hikari and of the others will have returned,” Taita expounded, wrapping one of Yami's arms around his neck, while Tanus did the same with the other arm.
Down casting his eyes Yami allowed the two men to support him through the streets of Thebes. He said not a word, only making pained noises as his breathing became harder. Lostris and Kratus stayed behind them, watching for any unwanted visitors, but the streets were empty at the moment and they had a clear passage.
He was barely conscious when they reached a small home at the edge of the city, deep within the lush fields of cotton. He faintly registered a soft feminine and husky masculine voice speaking rapidly with Taita and Lostris in Arabic, and he could distantly feel Tanus lift him into his arms and carry him into the home before laying him down on a plush grass mattress in one of the rooms.
He felt Taita working on him, removing his bandages, staunching the bleeding, applying ointments, and re-bandaging it. Throughout it all he could sense Lostris laying beside him, soothingly caressing his arm and running her fingertips through his hair.
All of it was soothing, it was as if he was numb.
When finally he felt Taita shift and rise to his feet he closed his eyes, reaching out in his mind to find Yugi, going to the limits of his energy to locate him.
/Hikari? Aibou are you there?
(Yami?)
/Yes, it's me Yugi, I just need to know that you are alright/
(Physically I am now, what happened, not that long ago I felt as if something had stabbed me in the chest)
/To put it briefly Yugi, Chike sent a man to inject a concoction into me, I won't remember anything about you in a few days, but I will regain my memories in not much more than a month afterward. Chike just needed to stall for time. Just remember Yugi, I love you like a brother, we will never be apart from each other or our bond again. I promise/
(I miss you, I want you back Yami, this is unbearable)
/I feel the same way Yugi, trust me, but we can do nothing about it until the reinforcements come to help us. Good-bye Yugi, I miss you, and I will never forget you/
(Bye Yami, see you soon)
/Yes Yugi, see you soon/
With that he let his mind drift into a deep slumber, heavy and dreamless.

Sleep had not come to him easy; he sat for hours staring out the large window in his room, peering down at the beautiful scenery around him with a melancholy expression. Every once in a while he checked on Yugi, making sure that the young teen was asleep and still there. He had made a vow when they arrived here, he would make sure at all times that Yugi was safe, no matter the costs.
He caught Bakura and Joey out in the hallway at one point, conversing in whispers, both seemingly trying to take their mind off of the current events.
When the golden fringes of dawn began to creep through the windows Seto gave up trying to sleep, heaving a sigh he moved from his room, briefly checking on Yugi's sleeping form before heading down into the kitchen, intent on making a batch of coffee. If he remembered Nick and Royan right, they were both up not long after sunrise wanting tea or coffee to soothe them.
Rummaging through the cupboards he found what he needed before setting about measuring the amount of coffee grounds and water that was needed. Turning the machine on he stepped back, watching the red light upon the bottom come to life, and hear the first sputter from the water meeting the grounds. Breathing in the heavy aroma of the coffee as it began to brew, gently forcing him into alertness.
He was shocked when Bakura came down the stairs after he had poured his first glass of the deep russet liquid. The former thief smiled at him groggily as he ran stiff fingers through his thick white hair. Grumbling something incoherent he sat down at the nearby table, gratefully excepting the cup of coffee that Seto shoved into his hands.
Inhaling the aroma briefly he let out a deep sigh before guzzling the hot substance, ignoring the quizzical expression that he was receiving from Seto. Smiling enthusiastically he placed his now drained cup on the table, “Thanks.”
“Anytime,” Seto answered, retrieving the coffee pot and pouring more into Bakura's mug. “When did you finally go to sleep.”
Tapping his chin in thought Bakura glanced back at the clock on the kitchen wall, “Around three I think. Well, four hours of sleep is better than none.”
Scowling Seto sipped at his coffee, eyes closing at the warmth that it brought him, “I am too worried to sleep.”
“I know,” Bakura smiled warmly, crossing his arms. “Joey and I had to take some sleepy time tea in order to fall asleep. It worked, sort of.”
“Apparently.”
“Do you know this, Mek guy that Taita was talking about. I know Nick does,” Bakura questioned, taking a long sip of his coffee before placing back on the table.
Shrugging Seto ran the tip of his finger along the rim of his cup, “Vaguely,” he answered. “All I remember of his is that he is an Ethiopian General, a good friend of Nick's that helped him and Royan when they were dealing with a man named Gotthold von Schiller, a man who tried to steal the riches of a Pharaoh's tomb down by lake Tana.”
“Sounds like he might be a good ally,” Bakura said, staring at Seto seriously.
Giving a curt nod of his head Seto took another drink of his coffee, “He will be, along with the soldiers in his small squadron. As Nick told me, they know how to deal with people who use shadow powers, or magic in general. So, yes, they will be a large help.”
“Let us hope that he can make it,” murmured Nick, moving to the table from the stairs, avoiding the living room furniture as he went. Retrieving a cup of coffee he loaded it with sugar and cream before he sat down with the two. “If he cannot make it out to us by foot, then I will send in someone to pick them up by helicopter. We will only have half the men, but that does not matter.”
“True enough,” agreed Seto.
“I am going to go make the call; I'll give you the news once I am done. Go wake everyone up please, we have some errands to run today,” Nick said, taking his cup towards the kitchen.
“What type of errands,” Bakura questioned.
Nick turned to him, a mischievous smirk upon his face, “Accessorizing.”

The brilliant glare of the sun, the sweet aroma of fresh Muscovy duck, and the crisp refreshing scent of recently picked vegetables and warm bread. Groaning he peeked his eyes open, snarling at the blinding light before rolling onto his side, providing some shade so that he could peer around. Only to realize that there was warm flesh pressing against him.
Snapping up he lifted his head to find Lostris sitting behind him, her legs outstretched on either side of him, both bent at the knee to hold him in, as her digits ran softly though his hair in gentle soothing circles.
Blinking he stared at her, uncertain as how to react for a moment before he heaved a sigh, resting his head against her shoulder he stayed upon his side and stared at the nearby window as her fingers continued to move through his hair.
“What time is it,” he asked softly.
“Nearly noon,” she answered her voice soft as silk. “Taita and Kratus went into the city to find us a few backpacks, some clothing for the two of us, and some provisions.”
“And Tanus.”
“Helping our friends cook lunch,” she murmured, smiling warmly. “It should be ready soon.”
Heaving a sigh Yami re-closed his eyes, he still felt exhausted from last nights activities. Shifting he felt a sharp pain rip through his torso causing him to hunch over and press his hands tightly over the said area. Shutting his eyes tightly he let out a small whimper, curling his knees to his abdomen.
Lostris shifted immediately, taking his hands in hers and pulling them away from the bandages, “Shh, it's alright,” she soothed, using her free hand to rub gentle circles on his back. “Take it easy.”
“Is he awake yet,” Tanus' deep voice asked, brushing the curtains to the room aside and peering in, biting his lip as he spotted Yami's curled up position. “I'll go get a cloth and some water, lunch is going to be ready in a few minutes.”
Nodding at her brother Lostris heaved a sigh before glancing back down at Yami, feeling him breathing a little easier she relaxed. Soothing him like the sister she seemed to be as she waited for Tanus to return, “Just keep breathing Yami and it will lessen,” she assured.
Another whimper escaped Yami's lips before he buried his head in the crook of her neck, the dampness from his eyes smearing against her skin. Clenching her jaw Lostris held him tighter, she desperately wished that she could take the pain away, seeing the proud Pharaoh that she had learned about, and had become friends with in the past few days, whimpering and crying in pain was enough to shatter her heart.
Humming a soft tune she reached up, running her thumb under his eyes and removing the cold tears from his soft flesh.
Brushing aside the curtains again, Tanus entered the small room, shuffling over the make shift beds on the floor he moved to kneel down beside his sister. Placing a bowl of cold water on the floor and dumping a cloth into it he reached out, placing his widespread hand over Yami's forehead, hissing at the heat that he felt.
“Taita had better get back here fast,” he stated, snatching the cloth and compressing the water out of it before holding it against Yami's brow. “He's starting to catch an infection, the dart probably caused it.”
Nodding in agreement Lostris gripped one of Yami's hands, “Stay strong Yami.”
“Trying,” he groaned out. “Gods I'm trying.”
“We know buddy,” assured Tanus, placing his free hand over Yami's exposed shoulder. “Take some deep breaths; concentrate on something other than the pain.”
Doing as bided Yami heaved in long relaxing breaths, his mind concentrating on the wonderful coolness of the cloth over his brow. Exhaling he opened his eyes, crimson orbs locking on the window outside. This was going to be a long few days.
……………………… 8230;…….
Garbed in a new tunic and kaftan Yami strode along side Lostris, shifting the straps to his backpack as they began their trek into the desert, the heat of the sun now gone, and the soft night time breeze running over his boiling flesh.
Glancing back over his shoulder he stared at Thebes, “I'll never forget you, both of you,” he murmured firmly. “Never.”
