Chapter 8: Facing reality
The sun burned brightly in the early morning sky. The pale colors of sunrise slowly began to fade and birds started to chirped out a nearby window. With a grown Kayla sat up in her bed and blinked a few times. The feeling of cold air suddenly reached her skin and she inattentively reached for the blankets and wrap herself up in them. She felt around the bed, and she felt no sign of her beloved pharaoh. Frantically her mind raced searching for a reasonable answer to her current problem. "Yami!" she called out into the empty room getting only the sound of the AC vent blowing its cool breeze on her tan skin still covered in sweat.
She winced in pain as she tried to figure out the reasoning behind why she felt the way she did. She barely remember the night before, but if what had happened really happen then wouldn't Yami be by her side still? She tried to reason. The sound of her alarm clock cought her off guard and she jumped at the new sound that filled the room around her. Groaning, she reached for the worlds most annoying device.
"What?!" rang through the house as a familiar voice reached her ears. Until this point, Kayla didn't want to believe that she had returned to the harsh reality that was her life. She groaned and scampered to put on some clothing, feeling a strange substance on her skin as well as that of her own skin. She wanted nothing more then to relax and soak away all the pains of her life and Barrie herself in the memories she had fresh in her mind. Ones that proved that she had once felt a true love, yet now this didn't feel as if it were even real.
Slowly she let her feet take her across the cool tile floor that was known as the downstairs part of the house following the sound of her name being screamed so loud neighbors a mile away could hear it as if they were in the same room. Kayla did not flinch at the volume being used for she was used to it, but wished that was a term she didn't have to assoite with the word at the moment.
"What in the Hell have you done Bitch!!" a woman screamed coming close to Kayla waving a print piece of paper in her face. "See this?!" she spat.
"I don't know what you are talking about," Kayla stated forcing her voice to remain calm while inside she was shaking. In fact the rush of emotion, had sent her into a world of trimmers. Her body was now shaking on the outside trying to compete with the shaking her body was doing on the inside. Tears stung at the back of her eyes and sparkled like pools in the light coming in from the window she was facing. One fell freely down her face as she struggled to hold them back.
"What do you mean you don't know?!" the woman spat once again her anger growing as she read allowed something about a meeting that Kayla had chosen to attend.
Once more Kayla stood motionless back pressed against the wooden wall behind her The woman advancing on her until she was within stroking distance of her. Once the woman was in range, she smacked the girl hard across the face causing the girl 's head to be forced to one side a hand print proof of what had happened.
Tears spilled freely down Kayla's face now as her body shook with uncontrollable sobs. This was nothing new for the girl, in fact several times, this had happened to her and the same result would come from it. However, this time her screams of pain were heard.
A young boy about the age of seven was walking down the street about a block over from where the fighting was taking place. Even though he looked to be that age he was in fact seven years older then his age implied. He had the strangest colored hairstyle matching that of the spirit that resided in this puzzle like object he kept around his neck. "Someone please help me! Please.. Yami.. Where are you? echoed through the streets as Kayla was tossed to the ground at the sound of the name of a male. In her household dating was unheard of if she was disabled. And of chores Kayla fit that decreption well. Her blindness be the most domet but she had other problems that were making themselves known as she got older in life.
At the sound of his name, the figure known as Yami Jumped up in his soul room not beliving his ears. ::It can't be:: he thought as he felt the owner of the puzzle he resided in pick up speed. The young teen was not alone when he began his run to discover the source of the cries of pain and screaming that echoed through the virtually carless street. Not even the sound of the busy highway could not compart to the screaming and abuse given in the lone white two story house on the block.
"Hey wait up!!" A body much taller then the one running shouted and panted as he tried to catch up to his friend.
"No time to stop Joey." the boy returned as all fell quiet in the house. The boy stopped quickly as a thud was herd a second after he slowly knocked on the front door. The door gave a mighty squeek as it swung open and a woman looking to be in her early fifties' or mid forties' stood in the now open door frame her foot acting like a door stop in a poor attempt to hide what was behind the front door in the master bedroom.
The boy gulped and took in a breath before responding. "Hello there miss is your daughter home?" He asked with a timed voice.
The woman sighed in relief before reply, "Nikki! Come down here! You have a visitor!"
The boy stiffened at the loud tone used to call the girl down with. It was the same tone that was used only moments before to yell out Kayla.
"No I am here to see...Kayla." the young boy stammered out the preane of this woman making him feel unconterfulable.
"She is not here she is ..at ..work." the woman lied as she reached behind her to close the master door a small whimper coming from the other side of the door as a human arm became caught up in it.
"Then what is that sound?" Joey inquired as he finely caught up with his friend.
"What sound..." the strange lady replied. "Look I am afraid what you hear is nothing Just a cat its nothing.
To this both Yami and Joey growled. "Hey yug.. You might want to do something here.." Joey remarked as he turned an ice cold glare on the woman which caused her to pail.
"Look if you don't leave, I will have to get the cops after you." she warned trying tp scare Yugi and Joey away..
"Not if I have something to say about it you won't!" Yugi screamed a light overcoming him traping him in his portion of the puzle while Yami stood with dark red eyes aimed directly at the strange woman whom was trying to force them away before they found Kayla trapped in her bedroom.
That is where she lay blood pooled around her and shivering from the cold air hitting her tender skin. Ever since Yami met Kayla, he was able to feel when something was wrong. When he began his bound with his counterpart, this power grew within him. Now he could feel yugi emotions and all as well if he were close enough Kayla. She however didn't know this, and neither did Yami until the feeling hit him. He guessed it was because of the bound the two had shared so many years ago and the fact the person he had been dreaming about truly did exist and not just in his dreams.
Pushing the woman aside he reopened the master bedroom and hit his knees at the sight before him. There she was the young woman that had caught his heart in his past back and near death once again. Fresh scares appeared on her pale skin and her breathing came in slow short gasps. Yami could not stop the tears from flowing as he picked up the limp shivering cold mass that was once so full of life and joy and happiness.
He skin had been drained of its color goosbumps lining her skin as teeth chattered. Open wound pored fresh blood while other place had begun to try up. Her skin instenly became soaked from the fresh salty tears leaking from Yami's closed eyes.
Kayla lifted her head slowly opening her own brown eyes which were distant. Those to had changed. Even though she had no sight, her eyes showed so much life in them no one knew by looking at her that she had a vision loss. "Yami...come back to me." she rasped out her own tears faling from once dry and blood shot eyes.
Joey slipped away to call for help while Yami whispered back, "I have returned to you my love, just please don't give up and make it for me."
To this sound, Kayla blacked out compely pressed against yami as he held her tears coming down harder prying she would make it.
