Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Abusive Love ❯ Painful Markings ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Dreizhen: Well, this is a fanfic I haven't focused on in a long time. I had on one of my floppies and I just found it a while ago. I'd forgotten about it, but I might as well give it a try again.

Trying to get by in the world isn't always easy, especially when you're the only who seems just a bit different….

Walking down the sidewalk on the usual morning tread, two tri-colored hair boys, holding hands, felt the morning fall breeze on their faces and took in the breeze gladly. They had been walking along when the arrived back at the Turtle Shop.

“Yugi, it's almost time to get going. How about we just hit the coffee shop and go from there?” Yami the older one said soothingly.

“Hm? Oh okay then.” Yugi sighed looking at the shop longingly. Yami patted his head and held his hand tightly and lovingly. Yugi looked up and smiled sadly. Then the two began their ongoing walk to the coffee shop.

There, they were met by two tan colored boys, one looking a bit nicer than the other. “Good morning, Malik. Marik.” Yami nodded. The two nodded back and Malik noticed Yugi's sad look.

“What's the matter, Yugi?” Malik said, kneeling down in front of him. Yugi shook his head and smiled fakely.

“Nothing. Nothing's wrong. What are you two doing here anyway?” he asked.

“We're supposed to meet Kura and Ryou here, but the two aren't here yet.” Marik said, looking at the sky worriedly, “Kura's been having problems lately..” he trailed off, looking down. Malik also put his head down.

“Ryou's been having marks on him lately and a smell of alcohol...” Malik said. Yami and Yugi's faces paled. Yugi went even paler, because the thought reminded him of his own demons.

“So why are you meeting them here today?” Yami said, trying to kindle the conversation.

“We were supposed to have Ryou over while Kura went somewhere, but so far the two have yet to show up.” Marik said. Suddenly his eye was caught by two figures coming down the sidewalk. The two white haired, chocolate eyed boys made their way up to the group.

“Hello all,” Ryou said pleasantly. The other stared in pain at the marks on his arms and legs. He was bruised from the neck down but refused to even say something about them. The others just shook their heads.

“So, let's get this over with. Ryou, go with these two, but you better be home tomorrow. Good-bye.” was all Bakura said as he walked off, pulling out a cigarette and moving oddly. Ryou watched him leave, a small smile on his face, but pain in his eyes. Yami had seen those eyes before, but that time they were from Yugi…such terrible memories.

“So, Ryou. Are you ready to go?” Malik said. Ryou looked back at him and smiled, nodding pleasantly.

“We'll see the two of you later.” Marik said, taking Ryou's things. Then the trio walked down the street, back in the direction of the two's apartment. Yami and Yugi watched them go. Then Yami noticed small tears on Yugi's face.

“What's the matter? Are you having a flashback?” he said, wiping his tears away. Yugi nodded.

“Poor Ryou...he must be in so much pain..” Yugi bit his lip.

“Yes, I'm sure you'd be the one to understand that the most. I wonder why now, all of a sudden. I know the tomb keeper was an ass, but I didn't think he'd hurt his own love. It's so shameful.” Yami shook his head regrettably.

“Hey Yami, can we go inside? I'm getting a bit cold.” Yugi said, changing the subject. Yami looked down at him and he looked away. Yami nodded and led Yugi into the coffee shop.

Later, after school, the two made their way back to the Turtle Shop. Solomon Muoto, the previous owner, had passed on about a year before, leaving the shop to Yugi and Yami. The two lived there, but the shop had long since been closed, because the two didn't have the time or the money to run it. Still, some toys laid on the shelves, gathering dust and watching the door for a new owner that was never to be. Upstairs, the two sat down and Yugi began his college work while Yami made some hot cocoa for the two. Suddenly, the phone rang. Yami went over and picked it up, “Hello?”

“Is that you, Yami?” a voice said over the phone.

“Who is this?” he asked quite calmly.

“It's Jou…I need to talk to Yugi.” He said whispering. Yami's face drained and then he lied.

“Sorry but Yugi isn't here. I'll tell him when he gets home though.” Yami said and hung up the phone, breathing harshly. Yugi eyed him worried.

“Is everything okay Yami?” he asked, startling Yami, who shook his head solemnly.

“It was Jou. He wanted to speak to you.” Yami said. Yugi lost all color in his face and turned away.

“I see. Well then, I'll probably just let the call slip away.” Then he continued his work, but Yami could see him shivering. He went up behind Yugi and embraced him, cuddling him close. Yugi let some tears escape his face, and turned to hug Yami, sobbing. The two sat there, the sun disappearing on the horizon.

That night, the doorbell rang while the two were eating dinner. Yami got up and went downstairs to answer the door. When he saw that it was the trio of Malik, Marik, and Ryou, he opened the door, “Welcome.”

“Hey Yami. It's cold out here tonight.” Ryou said, smiling.

“Who's there, Yami? Oh hey guys. Come on in.” Yugi said at the foot of the steps. The three came in, Yami looking around and shutting the door behind them. Then they all went up to the house part of the shop and sat around the living room area.

“So what have you three been doing?” Yugi asked, as Yami gave them some hot cocoa and coffee.

“Well, we went out to eat as always. Then, we went and saw this wonderful movie. What was it called again?” Malik asked, confused.

“It doesn't matter. The point is, Ryou asked if we could come and visit you on the way home, so we did.” Marik said bluntly, drinking his coffee.

“Oh I see. And why was it that you wanted to visit Ryou?” Yami asked, sitting down next to Yugi.

“Well, I really didn't get to talk to either of you much today, so I wanted to catch up on times. It's been awhile since I've seen you two or anyone else,” he mumbled slightly, causing the two to look at him sadly.

“Ryou....” Yugi stopped. He knew Ryou wouldn't say anything about what was going on with him and Kura, but he knew already. He was being abused when Kura was drunk. Yugi cringed in pain, causing Yami to hold his hand, comforting him. Marik and Malik looked down, because they knew. Everyone knew pretty much about the ordeal Yugi had gone through.

“So would you two like to go out with us tonight? We're were gonna go and do some karaoke.” Ryou said, lightening the mood. The two nodded. So after finishing their coffee/hot cocoa, the group left, Yami locking the door behind him and went on their way to the karaoke club.
