Chapter Three: Has anyone noticed I actually stopped writing titles a long time ago?

Mina was panicking in a major way. Shaking her head, she called repeatedly, the fear inside her growing and growing until it threatened to explode into terror.

Where is he?!?!?!?!

Two lifeguards began to run towards her, and she wondered what had given the urgency of the situation away-finally.

There-a sputter and a cough, a splash of water! With no further hesitation, Mina dove after the sound, quite forgetting she swam like a rock and completely underestimating the undertow the receding waves created. In less than a minute, she was coughing and gasping for air as well, water repeatedly crashing over her head and smothering her efforts.

"Mokuba?" She coughed, diving again. Her furious kicking had stirred up waves of sand, and unable to see anything, Mina was forced to feel her way along the bottom…

Something suddenly hit her hand, and realizing this happened to be Mokuba's arm, she grabbed hold and pushed upwards, but someone else was holding onto his other arm.

Someone else was holding on, too. And they wouldn't let go.

Releasing a sudden bubble of air, unable to hold it in anymore, Mina inhaled water and Mokuba was suddenly released-the two went bobbing to the surface.

"M-Mokuba…are you okay?" Mina managed between hacking up seawater and gasping for air. Mokuba was doing the same, nodding weakly.

"I thi-I think so. Mina, someone just grabbed me and pulled me down, and wouldn't let go!!" He had a death grip on her arm, but Mina hardly felt it. She was slipping…slipping away…

Through her hazy vision, she saw someone surface a long distance away, then dive again.

Hey, wait, come back…!

Mokuba kept tugging at her, and she shook her head.

"Leave me alone, Mokuba…I'm just kind of tired…Let me rest my eyes for a minute…" Her breathing came slow and shallow, and she was starting to lose buoyancy. Just before poor Mokuba thought all was lost, the lifeguards reached them and began the long, boring tow to shore.

Someone's here, someone's talking to me. Who are you?

I am everyone, and no one. I am you and I am me. You have brought me upon yourself…

What?

I am the sorceress Chione, the guardian of the ring. Thank you for freeing me from my prison-I am eternally indebted to you.

How come I can hear you?

Because I am a part of your soul now…

My soul? A part of my soul..?

"Miss..? Miss?" A voice brought Mina suddenly back down to Earth with a bang.

She was not at home, she was not talking to anyone. She had fainted and was lying on a couch in the guardhouse now, blankets thrown over her.

Did I just imagine talking to a person named Chione?

"Hey, Mina, you're awake!" Someone called, and she vaguely made out the shape of a dark haired boy leaning over her.

"Hey, Mokuba." Mina managed drowsily, pushing herself up into a sitting position. "Are you okay?"

"Yup," He nodded, tilting his head. "What about you? You kinda coughed up a loooooot of water!"

"Urk," Mina said, feeling vaguely sick. Seawater was obviously not good for you in large quantities. "Er, yeah, I'm okay. Let's get home…"

Wearily pushing open the front door, Mina paused to sigh, looking around the foyer, straightening. Something was off-wait…

"Mokuba?" She called over her shoulder, and he appeared next to her, looking curious.

"Yeah?"

"When's Seto supposed to be home?"

"I dunno, later he said."

"Ah," nodded Mina, shrugging. She had gotten seawater in her eyes, maybe this whole Seto's-coat-and-shoes-were-here thing was just a mirage. She slipped out of her sandals and continued into the living room, blatantly ignoring an amused looking Seto as she walked by him.

"Um, Mina?" He asked, raising a brow.

"Great, now I'm talking to mirages. I really need a nap…and some eye drops…" Mina muttered to herself, frowning.

"Mina, you're not seeing things-what are you going on about now, you nut?"

"And what are my mirages doing talking anyways…?" Mina mused, still mumbling to herself. Behind her, Seto gave a sigh, then tapped her on the shoulder and cleared his throat.

"Honestly. The things one has to do to get noticed around here," He said flatly, snorting. "A guy works all week, comes home, and his own girlfriend doesn't recognize him. Maybe she needs glasses?" He joked, ruffling her hair affectionately. Mina whirled around and grinned, launching herself at his middle and wrapping her arms around him.

"Mokuba and I went to the beach and I got a lot of saltwater in my eyes, can't see well. -What are you doing home?"

"What is this, twenty questions? Such a nosy little thing, aren't you?"

"I thought you had a meeting."

"Skipped on it!"

"You're terrible. That could have been something important for the company!!"

"First I'm overworked, then I'm terrible. No respect..."

"Oh, stop."

"Allright, my little owl-what are we going to do? I've got us dinner reservations and-"

"I'm tired, Seto…"

"----Or we could forget all that and go for a long walk."

Mina smiled slightly, standing on tiptoe to plant a kiss on his cheek.

"Yeah, okay. I can live with that…As long as you promise to leave your cell phone at home."

"….But-"

"Se-to…" Mina lowered her voice to the warning level, frowning again.

"……Well, allright. You're so…cruel." He conceded, looking displeased.

"I learned from the best," Mina laughed, turning and skipping up the stairs to change.
