Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Altered Destinies ❯ Chapter 3: The Memories of a Shattered Heart (Part 2) ( Chapter 3 )
This is my first attempt at a Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction so please be kind in your reviews, if you review. I might not have many of the characters in character. On another note I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh and never will. I don't know whom it is that owns Yu-Gi-Oh and besides giving these unknown parties credit for making such a kickass manga/anime, I don't really care. Also, I don't have any money right now so, no one can benefit at all when it comes to suing me.
I came up with this idea when I read a couple of stories that I have read on fanfiction.net. One was recently taken off for some reason but it had been a good story. The other focused on the series if Yugi had been born a girl. I decided to take my shot at this kind of story but using Seto Kaiba. I will only mention this once so pay attention:
/Backslash/ - a conversation between a person and their spirit. i.e.: Yugi to Yami and vice versa.
//Double Backslash// - the person is thinking.
-Altered Destinies, Chapter 3-
Seto has been busy piecing her heart back together. She had no idea of how much time has passed since her duel with Yugi had trapped her here. She looked like she was halfway done with the puzzle that is her heart. "I don't know how much more of these memories I can stand," Seto said to herself. She had gone through all of her memories leading up to her parent's death that she could recall. The first half of the puzzle seemed perfectly clear to her now as the pieces just started to fit. It was once she reached the halfway point when she noticed that the remaining pieces were just like they were at the very beginning. "I'm guessing this half represents after Kaasan and Tousan's death. Which are the more painful memories of my past. I knew this seemed too easy." Before she knew it, the familiar sight of the scene around her was shifting to another memory.
-Flashback-
Seto and Mokuba stepped out of the police car to be greeted by a middle-aged man. "Welcome to the Domino City Orphanage," the guy said. Mokuba quickly hid behind the person that he thought was his older brother. Seto kept a face that even the best poker players would be jealous of. The two siblings walked forward towards the building with the gate closing behind them.
"Seto," Mokuba said with tears in his eyes. "I'm scared. What will happen to us?"
Seto looked into Mokuba's eyes and smiled bitterly. She could no longer afford to be weak in front of her baby brother. "For right now, I don't know," Seto replied. "But we will get through this together."
"How are we going to do that Niisan?" Mokuba asked. "You're a boy genius and those that come here for adoption will pick you. They won't pick me."
"I won't let that happen," the brunette said. "My stubbornness got on our parents nerves but they've always been real patient people. I highly doubt that there is any one in this city that would tolerate my stubbornness for too long and give up thinking about adopting me without having to adopt you as well. I promise you that I will always be there for you when you need me. We will either leave this place together, or we won't leave at all until I am too old to be kept here." Mokuba smiled in relief at his "brother's" promise. A month went by and true to Mokuba's word; many families arrived to try to adopt Seto, but not her brother as well. Likewise, Seto remained true to her word and refused to leave with any of them. Seto just sat under a tree watching the clouds hover by. Rights now, she wasn't in the best of moods. In fact, she wasn't sure what kind of mood she was in right now. For the past two days, she has had mood swings. At some times, she was as nice as she could be, but at others, she was a complete psycho bitch. She had also noticed the bleeding and had followed the advice about how handle the situation. //It's a good thing I brought those pads with me from home. It was also helpful that they had bought me the panties that I am wearing under the boxers for this occasion. Otherwise, those pads would be useless.// Soon some voices had disrupted her thoughts.
"Oh look," a male voice said. "The dweeb is playing with his little truck." Other male voices laughed with whomever it was that was talking.
"Give that back," Mokuba's voice said alerting Seto. She jumped up and ran towards the sound.
"Get lost shrimp," the boy said pushing Mokuba to the ground. "It belongs to me now and I say it belongs in the junk pile." He dropped the toy and lifted a foot, ready to crush Mokuba's toy. Before he even got the chance, Seto arrived and punched the bully's face.
"Leave Otoutosan alone," Seto threatened. The other bullies moved in on Seto, but she struck first, knocking out two of the bullies. The others ran off to avoid further humiliation of being beaten by a single kid. //Those martial arts lessons Tousan taught me came in handy.// Seto picked up and handed Mokuba's toy back to him.
"Thank Niisan," Mokuba thanked his 'brother' and the two went back to their living quarters. Two more months have passed and Seto and Mokuba were playing chess when the news of one Kaiba Gozaburo winning his sixth straight World Chess Championship and donating the winnings to their orphanage and planning a visit later that month. What Seto didn't realize, was that Mr. Kaiba had been sending scouts to measure her abilities as a genius during the month. When he came to visit, it was like all the other people that visited. He wanted to adopt Seto, but not Mokuba and Seto, as always refused. This time, the adopter was just as stubborn as the adoptee.
"Why don't you give up this foolish nonsense of having your adopt along side with you," Gozaburo asked. "I have enough money and influence to have this orphanage's officials and the police force to drag you to my place."
"And I'm telling you that I won't leave this place without him," Seto said. "I promised my parents that I would take care of him. I promised him that I won't leave his side, and even if you get the military force of the U.N. here, I won't budge. I do have a proposition though."
"Oh, and what would that be," Gozaburo chuckled and the girl's antics.
"How about a chess match," Seto said. "One game and if I win, you have to adopt him with me."
"What a riot," the middle-aged man said. "You must know that I never lose kid. Besides, what would happen if I win?"
"You get to adopt me alone," Seto said. "But I would be pleased if it would be within a month and that you have found someone willing to adopt him and take care of him. I don't want him in this place. Another thing, I've never lost in chess as well and I've studied your matches and practiced your moves and I know you won't back down from a challenge."
-End Flashback-
Seto grinned at the memory. She remembered every move made in that game like it was yesterday and laughed as she remember the Rook to G5 that awarded her checkmate. Needless to say, everyone that was watching was stunned at the relative ease that Seto won. "I knew Gozaburo couldn't back down and he realized why it was a big mistake to underestimate me," Seto mused returning back to her original task and just like earlier, the pieces were just a little bit clearer. "True to his word, he adopted both of us. He left Mokuba to his own devices for the most part. As for me, I committed the sin of challenge him and beating him and for my transgression, I was not so fortunate." The scene shifted around the girl once again to a memory.
-Flashback-
It has been three days since Seto beat the guy who would become her stepfather, and it has been torturous. She had to endure strict educators whose lessons would drag on past midnight each day. She has been able to endure the lessons so far. At this moment Seto and Mokuba were having dinner with their new stepfather, when Gozaburo asked, "So Seto, what is your goal in life?"
"My big goal is to make a Disney-like theme park for children who have nothing," Seto answered putting a hand on Mokuba's head.
"Ha," Gozaburo laughed, "Get your head out of the clouds brat. It is completely unrealistic. Besides, don't you know that games are nothing more than a big waste of time?"
"No they're not," Seto challenged back. "Games are fun and pure and you should know that being a World Chess Champion yourself."
"Don't be so naive, Seto," Mr. Kaiba stood up. "I only play chess for two reasons. The first one is because it helps my public image, which frankly, I don't give a damn about, but it helps KaibaCorp in gathering new investors. The second reason is that chess is a game of military officers throughout history. You will be making weapons when you take over, not wasting your time and talent on something so useless as games and to help make sure of it, your lessons will even take place on the weekends." Gozaburo called forth his butler and order him to take Seto and Mokuba to their rooms and remove all their toys and games.
//What have I gotten Mokuba and me into.// Seto thought while yawning. "I can't take much more of this." Seto flopped down on her couch/bed; eyes drooping as sleep started to overcome her body. "If I see one more book tonight, I am going to be sick."
"Sleeping already," a voice snapped Seto out of her little nap. She saw the butler that took all of her toys away. "You still have one more lesson in an hour."
"Whatever," Seto mumbled about having some much needed taken away from her as well.
"You left this," the old guy said dropping a book in front of her face before leaving. "You should be more careful."
Seto sat up, knowing she wasn't going get a little nap before her next and last lesson of the day. Picking the book up with a slight scowl. "That does it." Seto threw the book to the side. The book opened up and something came out. "What is this, Magic and Wizards cards?" Seto then saw a piece of paper that was folded. The blue-eyed girl opened the paper and gasped when she noticed it was from Mokuba.
Niisan,
I managed to sneak these out of the box that had your toys in it. Don't let them find these gifts from me to you.
Mokuba
"Thank you," Seto thank and went through the cards. She frowned slightly when noticing that they were some of her weakest cards. "Ah, who am I to complain about them being some of my weakest cards? They're better than absolutely nothing." Seto then took notice of a hand made card. A white dragon breathing a blast of energy from its mouth and onto an enemy. "A Blue Eyes White Dragon. He made me a Blue Eyes card to cheer me up." Seto walked up to the balcony. "I will become the one true owner of that card someday Mokuba. I promise."
-End Flashback-
The scene changed back to the familiar blackness that is making up Seto's current life. "I still have that drawing as well," Seto smiled at the last part of the memory. "That dragon had always caught my attention when I first saw its picture in an American Duel Monsters magazine. It was also a favorite monster of the orphans that I lent that magazine to. Mainly because of the child-like fairy tales of how that Dragon first arrived in the harshest of conditions and went on to challenge the gods. Not like I believe in such fairy tales but I, an orphan, rose to the top of a multi-billion dollar corporation and became one of the World's most influential people at a young age. Many orphans have dream of becoming great like me and I made the Blue Eyes White Dragon the symbol of the new KaibaCorp as I proceeded with my dream of building the ultimate virtual Magic and Wizards: Duel Monsters theme park, KaibaLand, so that orphans could have a place to forget all their current troubles." Kaiba went back to the task of piecing her heart back together. "Maybe Yugi was right though. Maybe I did lose my gamers heart. I twisted the very pure nature of games into and used it as a means to advance my status in games market and my position in life. Each victory took me further and further away from my old beliefs about games and it became even harder to accept the possibility of defeat." Seto just worked on the puzzle in peaceful silence when the scene started shifting again.
-Flashback-
Seto has now been thirteen years old for a few months now. She just finished her test of turning the equivalent of $10 million in Yen to $100 million. She also had been secretly plot taking over KaibaCorp from her stepfather by making even more than her required goal. All she had to do was convince the Big 5 to assist her in her plans. For the time being now, Seto was called to Gozaburo's room. After knocking on the door and being granted permission, she entered. "You wanted to see me father?"
"Yes," Gozaburo said. "I wanted to talk to you in private about a secret of yours in private." Seto's eyes widened in shock from Gozaburo's statement, had her plot to take over KaibaCorp already been discovered. "When I discovered that your orphanage had a kid that looked like my late son, Noah, I sent some people to check it out." Gozaburo handed Seto a folder with. Seto gasped when she saw a file on her with photos of her at the orphanage.
"You've been spying on me," Seto asked in anger.
"True," the middle-aged man said. "But, I was skeptic about another boy looking a lot like my son at first so I did a background check using more than the required resources needed. I've found some interesting things." Gozaburo had a knife in his hand and the blade was on her chest.
"Is this getting somewhere," Seto said in a slight panic and remaining absolutely still. The knife was dangerously close to the drawstring of one of her corsets that her parents got her. One wrong move and a secret that she had been keeping from everyone her entire life would be exposed to the one person she didn't want to find out about it.
"Well I found out about your birth," Gozaburo brought the knife up and cut through the drawstring of the girl's corset. "Whoops," the old man mocked, "It must've slipped, but my, what a surprise. I suppose that there was some reason for you to deceive everyone." Seto shivered in fear for the first time in many years. She went on to explain that the when her parents were pregnant with her, the gender scans had mistaking taken her umbilical cord as male genitalia. Her parents had been strict believers in tradition of the proper heir being a boy and since her father had a low sperm count, it was a miracle that she was even conceived. With the chance of having another child real low, they disguised her as a boy. Then Mokuba came along and by that time, she was a popular boy at school so couldn't even be a girl even if she had the option. "I thought I was tough on you, but in some ways, I'm glad." Gozaburo had a wicked grin that scared Seto. "You know, I could see you as a beautiful girl if you were to make a few changes in your appearance. That could pose problems if anyone else were to find out." Seto started backing away from her stepfather until she tripped and fell on the large bed in the room. Gozaburo pounced on his prey like a tiger. Needless to say, if there was anyone in the mansion at all, then no one was able to hear the sounds emanating from Gozaburo's room.
-End Flashback-
Seto fell to her knees shaking with tears in her eyes. "Of all the memories I've had to experienced in this hellish prison," Seto said, "why that one? Gozaburo had found out my secret and raped me on the basis that no male would want "damaged goods" if my secret were ever discovered. If I didn't cooperate with him that day, he would've revealed everything to Mokuba and to my old classmates and friends at my old hometown." Seto just sat motionless sobbing at the memory she just experienced for what seemed like a few hours before returning to her task. "I've never forgiven him for forcing me to give up something so precious to me, and I'll never forgive him for it. It was that event that made me decide to start my takeover of KaibaCorp a little early. He was turning many of my inventions into tools for warfare, but it was that event that made me go through with it. One of the odd things was that despite him finding out about what I was doing, was that when I had pretty much abandoned Mokuba for betraying my plans to our stepfather, Gozaburo never revealed my secret to him. That would just be another one of life's many unanswered questions." Seto just went on to piece her heart back together while in deep thought.
-To Be Continued-
Okay this is the last "Seto's past" chapter. I might do a lemon version of this chapter, but I would have it hidden. If I do make a lemon version of this chapter, I will post the URL for the hidden chapter later on. Next chapter, Yugi takes on the Death Imitator, and Kaiba is one piece away from completing the puzzle when her doubts sink in. Will she wake up from her coma or does she even want to. I also didn't have the time to fully pre-read this so don't be surprised on an eventual editing.
