Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Altered Destinies ❯ Chapter 4: Time of Awakening ( Chapter 4 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

This is my first attempt at a Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction so please be kind in your reviews, if you review. I might not have many of the characters in character. On another note I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh and never will. I don't know whom it is that owns Yu-Gi-Oh and besides giving these unknown parties credit for making such a kickass manga/anime, I don't really care. Also, I don't have any money right now so, no one can benefit at all when it comes to suing me.

I came up with this idea when I read a couple of stories that I have read on fanfiction.net. One was recently taken off for some reason but it had been a good story. The other focused on the series if Yugi had been born a girl. I decided to take my shot at this kind of story but using Seto Kaiba. I will only mention this once so pay attention:

/Backslash/ - a conversation between a person and their spirit. i.e.: Yugi to Yami and vice versa.

//Double Backslash// - the person is thinking.

-Altered Destinies, Chapter 4-

Kaiba was still trapped in the dark recesses of her mind, but she was smiling. She was so close to finishing the puzzle, she could see it. As the puzzle neared it's completion, Seto could see a picture form on the sphere and the image wouldn't move even if Seto were to spin the sphere around. On one side, was a young boy that Seto instantly recognized as herself with a chessboard. The other image stayed invisible even though Seto easily suspected that something should be in the spot. "I guess that until I finished this puzzle," the brunette said, "that other image won't appear."

Meanwhile on an island far, far away from Domino City and three months since Kaiba fell into a coma. A young boy that looked just like the person that defeated Seto a while ago, but shorter, was walking with his friends Jounouchi Katsuya, Masaki Anzu, and a tall brown haired boy. The boy and Jounouchi had a glove on their right hand with a metallic wristband that had star-shaped holes in them. "So Yugi, you're half-way there to making the finals," the tall boy said.

"Yes I am, Honda," Yugi said. "Just five more star chips and I'll be able compete in the finals and take on Pegasus for Ojiisan's soul." Yugi looked up to a castle on a mountain in the distance. //And I will beat you Pegasus, no matter what.// "Well I think we better get Jounouchi some more star chips if he were to help his sister."

"Motou Yugi," Yugi-tachi turned to the sound of the voice. What they saw was a young boy with gray eyes and black hair. His face was concealed behind a handkerchief acting as a mask. "I challenge you." Yugi studied the boy, wondering who exactly he was.

Back with Seto, she was one piece away from finishing the task of piecing her heart back together. She picked up the final piece of her puzzled heart and was about to put insert it and finish her penalty. Just a few centimeters before she could escape from her prison, the image that was unclear showed up. What it was caused Seto to gasp in recognition as she dropped the piece. "M-, Mo-, Mo-, Mokuba," Seto said as images of Death-T's stage 4 flashed in her head. Collecting her wits, she picked up the pieced and tried again. Once again the images of how she had treated her brother recently flashed across her eyes again. //I don't know if I can do this. After all I've done to him, he still looks up to me. I could never ask him for forgiveness. Would he even grant me it after I betrayed my promise to always take care of him? I did force him to face the Death Simulation Chamber after his loss to Yugi, I've always thought he was trying to upstage me and take over.// A scene of when Seto took over KaibaCorp flashed across her mind. //After treating my brother so badly after I thought he told Gozaburo my plans which made him run to our stepfather, he came back to me and to prove his innocence, gave me his two percent of KaibaCorp. Now I know why Gozaburo laughed as he jumped. He wasn't driven insane, he had won the game in the end. He turned me into a young version of him. I had originally played games because they were fun, but then I had to prove that I was Japan's number one game master to give my company credibility. Because until my dueling arena's came out, not a single product that the corporation was making would differentiate it from others. I became a power-hungry fool just like him.// Seto tried one more time to finish the puzzle but this time, her uncompleted heart would always be one inch away from her outstretched hand.

//It must know that I don't deserve to leave this place.// Seto thought to her. "The worst part is that it is right. I deserve to stay in this hell for eternity. I have no bonds that tie me to anyone, including Mokuba. I've betrayed him and don't deserve his adoration for me."

Hours seem to pass by as Kaiba was shaking with nervousness as her hand couldn't get any closer to finishing the puzzle. The sound of a Blue Eyes White Dragon roar startled her. "Blue Eyes," Seto said looking around and saw nothing. "Something's not right here. My Blue Eyes White Dragon is being played by someone else."

"Neesan, help me," a young boy's voice echoed throughout the dark room followed by sinister laughing sounds.

"Otoutosan is in danger," Seto said. "Who would be after him and why? He needs me more than ever, but do I deserve to save him. I won't know until I get out of here. I won't let him down again and I will save him." Seto put the final piece in place and the Blue Eyes White Dragon appeared on the picture between the two siblings. "Now I get what Yugi and Ojiisan have been preaching. This dragon symbolizes our bond throughout our hardships and rise to power to me. The dragon that brings victory. It was a drawing of this card that had kept me sane throughout most of the times under Gozaburo's care. In my twisted obsession, I've forgotten the true value that this card had to me and I went to any lengths to get the four Blue Eyes White Dragons. I will prove to myself and to Mokuba that I truly deserve to own that card." A very bright white light filled the dark room and Seto's vision went black.

When Seto opened her eyes, she saw a white tile ceiling. Struggling to sit up, Seto noticed that she was in her room. The next thing Seto noticed was a card-shaped locket hanging on her neck. Clicking it open, she saw a picture of Mokuba when he was about five years old. "I'm sorry otoutosan," she whispered, "but I might never be the sibling you once knew, but I will try to make up for all that I've done for you." Closing the locket, the brunette swung her legs over the side of the bed and tried to stand up. It proved to be a dumb move as she fell to the hardwood floor. "Ouch," Seto said rubbing her face. "My legs must not be used to activity after a couple weeks of inactivity." The blue-eyed girl took a look at the calendar as she slowly stood up. "Change that, it has only been three months since my duel with Yugi." Seto turned to head to her dresser in a slow walk, getting her legs back under her. Her eyes widened and she quickly turned her head back to the calendar. "THREE MONTHS!!! Just exactly how much did I miss out on." A door opened to reveal a maid who was startled to see her boss up and walking.

"Seto-sama, your awake," the maid rushed up to her boss who just scowled.

"Never mind helping me," Seto said. "I want to be updated on the current situation of Mokuba and the corporation. Mokuba's not here otherwise I wouldn't be breathing right now."

"I don't know much about the corporation but Sarawatari was here a week ago when Mokuba ran away," the maid said. "They said they and the Big 5 will keep your deck safe while you were in that coma. I also have a question."

"What is it?" Seto asked as she made it to the dresser and picked out clothes. "I take it that the whole nation knows about my secret now seeing that none of my corsets or other male clothes aren't here."

"Actually, the whole world knows," the maid answered. "The doctors had confirmed Yugi's accusation as correct when they had to remove your clothes to do tests on what caused your coma and found burnt remains of your corset that day yet no burns."

Seto's eyes widened in realization. //Exodia's attack.// She thought in her head. //That other Yugi must've empowered it so the winning blast left some physical evidence. In this case, it destroyed the corset by burning it, yet it remained cool enough not to leave burns on me.//

"In the meantime what is in that safe here," the question caught Kaiba's attention. "They said that there was something in there that the Big 5 needed for what would've been your scheduled meeting with Mr. Crawford.

"I never had any meeting with Pegasus scheduled at all," Seto stopped as she realized something. //Those traitors. They plan to sell KaibaCorp to Pegasus and Mokuba must've taken the key to that safe. Without those papers, I would have to give them the authority to make the takeover legal like that would ever happen.//

"Ah, Seto-sama," the brunette glared at the maid.

"Does Industrial Illusions have any kind of special event," the maid shrugged her shoulders. "Useless, now get out of my room and don't let anyone outside of this house know that I am up and I plan on leaving to find Mokuba in a few hours." The maid left the room as Seto went about to get cleaned and dress.

Yugi stared at the unconscious figure of the puppet master that he just beaten with little to no sympathy. //He tried to mock a mockery of Seto's condition and tried to bind her heart to that puppet by using the deck that Pegasus stole from her. Better yet, Kaiba has finally woken up. How else would that dragon destroy itself. Wait till Mokuba hears this.// Yugi thought as she turned his head to see his friends, minus two particular faces. "Hey, where's Mokuba."

The others looked at where the guard that held Mokuba hostage was standing and surely enough, neither him nor Mokuba was there. "I don't know," Jounouchi commented. "We were to busy watching you duel."

"That jerk," Honda growled. "He had no intention of keeping his word at all."

"Poor Mokuba," Anzu said dryingly. Yugi could help but feel sad at the brunette's comment. He felt that he had let Mokuba down.

Seto approached the helicopter a few hours after waking up, briefcase in hand. She had a mysterious email after her shower telling her about the Duelist Kingdom Tournament and the Big 5's reasons and plans. If Pegasus can beat Yugi and avenge the humiliation that she brought to KaibaCorp, then they will give Mr. Crawford KaibaCorp. //So those traitors thought that they could take over and sell the company to Pegasus just because of one loss. They will learn that no one messes with me and my family without regretting it.// The rotary wings of the helicopter started up and in a minute, it took off towards it destination: Duelist Kingdom Island.

-To Be Continued-

So Seto has finally woken up and is on her way to find her little brother, Mokuba. On next chapter, Kaiba arrives on the island and a certain person objects to her getting in their way to Pegasus. I was originally going to have Yugi vs. Player Killer (Panik.) As for the area between the *********, that is for later updating. I would like to know how the duel between Yugi and the Death Imitator turns out move for move and I would also like to know the general conversation that occurs during the duel. I know it can't be like the anime move for move. One more thing, what was the Death Imitator's penalty game as the result for his loss. My email is ultra_shin_vegita@yahoo.com.
