Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Altered Destinies ❯ Chapter 5: Meeting on a Remote Island ( Chapter 5 )
This is my first attempt at a Yu-Gi-Oh fanfiction so please be kind in your reviews, if you review. I might not have many of the characters in character. On another note I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh and never will. I don't know whom it is that owns Yu-Gi-Oh and besides giving these unknown parties credit for making such a kickass manga/anime, I don't really care. Also, I don't have any money right now so, no one can benefit at all when it comes to suing me.
I came up with this idea when I read a couple of stories that I have read on fanfiction.net. One was recently taken off for some reason but it had been a good story. The other focused on the series if Yugi had been born a girl. I decided to take my shot at this kind of story but using Seto Kaiba. I will only mention this once so pay attention:
/Backslash/ - a conversation between a person and their spirit. i.e.: Yugi to Yami and vice versa.
//Double Backslash// - the person is thinking.
-Altered Destinies, Chapter 5-
Nighttime has fallen over the island where the Duelist Kingdom Tournament was held. Yugi had just finished his duel with the Player Killer who won't be bothering anyone again. He had kept Mai Kujaku from being disqualified from the tournament and she promised him to repay the favor.
-Flashback-
"Remember this Yugi," a girl that looked like she could be in her late teens said. "I owe you six star chips." The girl blew a kiss to the blushing boy who just saved her from elimination from the tournament.
-End Flashback-
//Seems like Pegasus will stop at nothing to get what he wants.// Yugi thought to himself. //Just what exactly is it that he is after. He took ojiisan's soul, and now has Kaiba's company in his sights.//
-Flashback-
"The Board of Directors have making deals with Pegasus," Mokuba explained the reason to why he was challenging Yugi. "If Pegasus or a duelist representing him can defeat Yugi here, then they will hand the company over to him to avenge the humiliation to the company's reputation from Neesan's defeat to you. I just can't sit around and do nothing. I've already swallowed the key they need to finalize the deal without her authority. All I need to do is guarantee that Yugi won't lose to Pegasus or his minions by beating him myself."
-End Flashback-
//The is more to this tournament than originally thought and it seems that everything is centered around the Sennen Items.// Yugi thought as the scene where Pegasus steals Mr. Motou's soul. More scenes dealing with his encounters with Shadi at the museum and Bakura and the RPG game where he and the others were sent into the game to face Zork. //There's so much going on that it is getting confusing.//
Meanwhile, not far away from the island, a helicopter is approaching. A certain female CEO is at the controls with a look of deep thought on her face. //It's hard to believe that my business associates would turn on me for one loss. However, that duel even has me shaken up.//
-Flashback-
"You'd realize that there is no such thing as a pathetic card in this game," Yugi said. "To prove my point, I'll take these five seemingly useless cards and summon Exodia." Yugi placed the cards on the board and Exodia appeared on the field to destroy Kaiba's three dragons.
-End Flashback-
//How did he do that?// The brunette questioned in her mind on how Yugi was able to beat her. //Nothing I did or say even fazed him and yet as he kept to that silly belief that the cards have a heart that determines the outcome of a duel. With that faith and the belief that his friends were with him, he drew the one card he needed. It shouldn't be possible, but I have no time to figure this out right now. Mokuba is in danger and once I make sure otoutosan is safe, I will make those that dare mess with him pay dearly. No one crosses Kaiba Seto and gets away with it.// Seto sees a cliff that he is approaching. //According to what I know of this island, the first good landing spot is just up this cliff.// The copter lifted up and over the cliff edge. Seto noticed a camp in the spot. //Oh well, they will just have to do with it.// It was then that she noticed a boy with three different colors on his hair in the spotlight. //Oh crap. Of all the duelists that I have to come across here right off the bat, it had to be him.// The rest of Yugi-tachi awoke from their slumber to see what was going on. Seto moved her aircraft to land in the largest open area.
Yugi-tachi awoke suddenly from the sounds of a helicopter rising up over the cliff edge. A couple people were less than happy. "What the hell?" Honda asked.
Jounouchi was rather pissed at all the noise and gusts of air that the helicopter kicked up with its rotary wing. "Some of us are trying to sleep you bakayaro," Jounouchi yelled in the vain hopes that maybe the pilot would listen. Two females appeared from the tent, one with brown hair and the other with blonde hair.
"What is going on out here?" Anzu, the brunette asked as the wind from the helicopter almost blew the tent down.
"Apparently another feature that Pegasus has for this tournament and neglected to tell anyone about," Mai, the blonde said spotting the helicopter. She decided to spend the night with Yugi and her in the case that there was other Player Killers hunting the night and using mind games like the one she and Yugi had faced. Her theory was shot down as she noticed the aircraft landing. "Or a very rude, uninvited visitor has made an appearance. Something familiar about that helicopter though." Soon the loud aircraft stopped making noise and the silhouette in the cockpit stood up and walked to the exit. "He will get a scolding." Mai and the others, including Yugi were surprised to a lone teenage girl exit the aircraft. She was tall, with brown hair reaching her shoulder blades. One lock of hair on her left side was done in a braid (think of Shion in Xenosaga Episode 1.) She wore a black tube top with a black miniskirt along with black leather boots that went up to her thighs. All this was complete with a blue trench coat that matched a pair of familiar looking blue eyes.
"Do you mind explain what you were thinking Miss.," Jounouchi and Mai scolded.
"Yeah, would you," Honda followed up. "We were trying to sleep until you slowed up right now." Yugi looked like he was trying to hold back something. "Though you are hot. Can I get your phone number?"
"Oh really," the lady said in a soft voice that seemed familiar. "If I were not in such an emergency, I probably would say "sorry," but then," the girl cleared her throat and an a voice that no one has heard in three months, "I don't really give a damn about that and no, you can't have my number anyway." Jounouchi, Honda and Anzu jumped at recognition of the girl. Yugi was laughing at their antics and Mai was somewhat confused.
"Its good to see that you're finally awake Kaiba," Yugi said.
Mai's eyes widened in recognition of the name. "That's her," Mai asked surprised as Yugi nodded. "I've heard all about your duel and I kind of expected a butch-like looking girl, but not this. Why keep this hidden?"
"So you must be Kujaku Mai," Kaiba commented. "Top female duelist and the Harpy Queen. I must say, you nag like one too." Mai was about to shout a bunch of obscenities at Kaiba, but Yugi walked up to Kaiba and handed her a deck of cards.
"I've come across this in one of my duels here," Yugi said. "It is your deck from when we've dueled. I've been keeping it safe for you."
Kaiba took her deck and said thanks, "Thanks. I'll make sure that you are compensated for all the trouble you've gone through to get it." Kaiba started walking away with her deck and briefcase in hand.
"I was hoping that you could stay with us since we are all heading for Pegasus, but of course, you'll need some starchips and those are acquired by duelling," Yugi said.
"Get real," Kaiba said and the others gasped. "You think I'm here for some stupid tournament. This is personal and business between Pegasus and me, Yugi. I have no time for this silly nonsense. See you." Kaiba started walking away but Jounouchi ran up and grabbed Seto by her trenchcoat.
"Listen here you bakayaro," Jou growled. "I may be cool with you trying to rescue your otouto, but we have personal business with him first, so go to the back of the line and wait your turn if it ever comes."
"Nice grip makeinu," the tall brunette said gripping the blonde's wrist. "Let me show you mine." Seto lifted Jounouchi up by the wrist and threw him hard into the ground.
"Jounouchi, are you okay."
"That was really uncalled for Kaiba," Anzu said as the others ran up to their fallen friend.
"Like I care right now," Kaiba said as she turned around and headed straight for the mountain at the center of the island. "I have no time for this, bye." Kaiba started to walk away, but stopped as Jounouchi called her out. //He can't. No one could possibly be that insanely stupid.// The others tried to stop him but he kept going. //Guess I was wrong. He can be that stupid.// "On one condition." The others looked at her confused. "He has to duel with one of my latest inventions." Kaiba held up her briefcase. "I portable holographic generator prototype. It is the first generation duel disk system with a whole new set of rules for it.
"Looks like a briefcase to me," Seto could see the others mentally smack their heads in complete disbelief.
//He's even stupider than I gave him credit for.// "It's in the briefcase nimrod," Seto said as she set the case to the ground and opened it to reveal two disks with a wire connecting it to another device. A huge collection of cards can be seen with the devices that Kaiba pulled out. The blue-eyed girl threw one duel disk at the blonde male. "Strap the card holder to your wrist and place your deck in. A life point count will be display with your life points. The middle space is called the main field and is for monsters only and any monster in that space has to be targeted before any direct attacks can be made. The four outer spaces are for any cards and in a ways represents your hand. Be warned that any card that is in this space or sub-field can be targeted unless it is an active magic/trap card. In other words the sub-field is both your hand and your face down cards on the field. Magic/trap cards that are targeted are automatically destroyed and monster cards battle it out with the loser being destroyed. Reverse effects cannot be activated in this zone so cards like Man-Eater Bug have to be set face down on the field."
"Okay, okay," Jounouchi said. "Let's play straight from our decks."
"Okay," Kaiba said as she drew a card. "For my first move, I summon my Minotaur." She placed a card on the field and threw the disk out. A bunch of little light arose from device.
"Whoa, check out those lights," Honda said.
"Yeah, almost like an enchanted dream," Anzu said before a bull-headed monster appeared and snarled. "Eeek, or nightmare." The group gasped in shock at how real this monster seem.
"No way can that be a hologram," both Yugi and Mai commented together.
"It is," Seto, confirmed that it was a hologram. "Just a very realistic one at that. My duel disk my Minotaur to breathe and snarl and judging by Katsuya's reaction, it even simulates the body odor."
"Okay," Jounouchi said. "You have way too much time on your hand to think up these things. I summon Armored Lizard. Attack."
"Cut his lizard in half with your Axe," Kaiba said. The bull-headed monster slams his axe down onto the neck of Jounouchi's monster. The blonde smirked as he as he saw his monster still standing.
"Take that Kaiba," Jounouchi said. "He withstood your Minotaur's attack."
"Guess again," Kaiba's monster continued and it axe went straight through the Armored Lizard's neck, severing it's head. The duel disk spat out Jounouchi's card. (K: 2000 J: 1800)
"Okay," Jounouchi was sweating, "that is real enough for me."
"This isn't for those with weak stomachs makeinu," Kaiba commented. "If you can't handle it and think on your feat, then give up now."
"No way," the blonde yelled back as he drew his next card as the disk returned to his hand. "I learn quickly. I draw the card, set it on the disk and here I go. Flame Swordsman, turn her Minotaur into a sirloin steak with you fire sword." A guy in a blue and orange outfit with a large orange sword appears and charges.
"Well, he's got a stronger monster out that should defeat Kaiba's Minotaur," Mai commented as the Flame Swordsman had 1800 attack points against the Minotaur's attack strength of 1700.
//Surely he can't be stupid enough to forget elemental resistance of certain monsters.// Kaiba thought.
"Jounouchi, the Minotaur is resistant to all Fire Main-Type monsters," Kaiba's monster, true to Yugi's word slashed right through Jounouchi's monster.
"Now he tells me about that," Jounouchi said as he lost another 200 life points, bringing him down to 1600.
//I was wrong again.// "Why am I not surprised with such an amateur mistake," the brunette said as she drew two cards and smirked. "I have an idea for you. Why don't you just follow what Yugi tells you or better yet let me show you one the advance techniques of the game." Kaiba calls back her disk and places two cards face up. "By using my fusion card with my Centaur, I can combine it with my Minotaur to form." Seto threw the disk back and this time, a bull with a horses body appeared. "Minocentaur."
"You think that deformed pony scares me," Jounouchi drew out another card. "Garzas, avenge my Swordsman." (J: 1400) "Ok, Axe Raider. Avenge Garzas." (J: 1100) "Barbarian #2." (J: 900) "Uh, Wyvern Warrior." (J: 400) The others just shook their head in embarrassment.
//Jeez, this idiot doesn't realize that my Minocentaur only has 2000 Attack Points. How does he expect himself to be a great duelist if he doesn't know the card's attack and defense strength without the display.// She noticed Jounouchi slowly falling to the ground. "That's it, just stay down to the ground like the wounded dog that you are. Taking on weak duelists."
//Man it took Exodia to beat her before. I'm almost out of options. Maybe challenging Kaiba wasn't the brightest idea.//
"Come on Jounouchi, get up," Honda encouraged. "Where does she get off calling you a wounded dog?"
"Yeah," Mai backed the tall teen up. "Where is that duelist that defeated me, and then defeated Dinosaur Ryozuki today. Don't quit now."
"Quit," Jounouchi retorted as he drew his next card. "It's not in my vocabulary."
"I didn't think that you even had a vocabulary," the blue-eyed girl responded.
"Very funny now check this out," Jounouchi placed the card in his hand onto the disk and threw it back out. "Red Eyes Black Dragon, take down that freak."
//Red Eyes, this is getting interesting now.// Kaiba thought as the black dragon took out her monster. Yugi-tachi cheered about Jounouchi finally doing some damage (K: 1600.) Jounouchi was now taunting her as she drew her card and saw what it was. "It figures that you'd be so much of an amateur to be celebrating when the duel isn't even close to be over."
"Say what," the blonde boy questioned.
"Your Red Eyes, as the dragon that brings potential, is a strong beast, but it pales in comparison to my beast," Kaiba answered back. Yugi gasped in recognition. //I almost feel sorry for this, but you're going to need this lesson. Overcoming this crushing defeat will help you.// "Now I summon the dragon that brings victory, the Blue Eyes White Dragon." Kaiba's dragon appeared onto the field and blasted Jounouchi's monster out of existence. (K: 1600 J: 0)
-To Be Continued-
Sorry it that it took me a while since my last post, but I had no idea of how Yugi vs. Death Imitator goes. I thought that it was odd that after her duel with the Player Killer, who Yugi would then defeat to reclaim her star chips for her, that Mai didn't spend the rest of that night with Yugi-tachi. Next chapter, Kaiba is on her way to Pegasus' castle as Jounouchi, trying to get over his defeat takes on a duelist getting advice from a duelist that Kaiba warns Yugi and friends about.
A recent review of this story had said that in the official character book, Mai is 24 years old. She looks and dresses a lot younger. I knew she had to be at least 18 years old by Battle City since she could drive a car in Japan.
