Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Alternate Kingdom ❯ Prologue
Alternate Kingdom
Summary: In an AU where Solomon Motou died months after taking in his grandson, the privilege of caring for Yugi fell to an old archaeologist friend, Maximillion Pegasus. Eight years later, what is Yugi to do when he finds his guardian is going to be hosting a duel monsters tournament and that he's holding a boy hostage in the tower? And worst of all when his grandpa's puzzle starts glowing…
Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-gi-oh! If I did, I doubt I would be writing fanfiction for it, but then you never know.
Ok I just want to make a note that this story was posted on Fanfiction.net but it was removed and now it's here. So any poor soul who was actually reading it over there you can now check for updates here. Hopefully.
WeirdtheNorn <smiles at everyone> Ok I'm so happy that I get to start another Yu-gi-oh! story. This is so exciting.
Yugi <scowls at author from the floor, surrounded by puzzle pieces> Maybe you're happy, but look what you did to Yami! Now I have to assemble the puzzle pieces all over again!
WeirdtheNorn <sighs thoughtfully> Hum, maybe you could ask Marik to help you put them together?
Yugi <stares at author in shock> Are you that dense? Marik would steal the puzzle if I gave it to him. Besides he's not even in this story.
Marik <suddenly appears> Yeah! And besides I'm too busy laughing at pictures of Yugi as a small boy to do anything so scary as a "good deed" foolish mortal author.
WeirdtheNorn <gasps> You got into my pictures of Yugi? Shame on you. Bad Marik, go lay down!
Yugi <glares at both of them> Give me those! You are both really creepy!
Yami <smiles at Yugi> You tell them aibou! Now here, I have another piece of the puzzle complete.
Yugi <gapes at Yami> How are you here if the puzzle is in pieces?
Yami <smiles at Yugi> Simple Yugi. That is not our puzzle. It's just a prop.
Yugi <pauses to contemplate this> Then where is our puzzle?
Marik <humming innocently> Uh, I have to go now, foolish mortals.
WeirdtheNorn <sighs> Ok things are back to regular chaos around here. I hope everyone enjoys reading this first bit of the story. It's not very long but I promise more soon. So read and tell me what you think afterwards.
Prologue
Eight-year-old Yugi Motou sat up in bed with a start. Someone was downstairs. It wasn't Grandpa, he had told Yugi that he was going on a trip and would be back in four more days. Yugi glanced over at his calendar and nodded to himself as the day circled and written all over was still far away. He was going to bring Yugi back a new game. Yugi smiled in the dark room and glanced over at his latest puzzle, a golden puzzle with so many pieces it seemed impossible. But then another 'clump' came from downstairs and he gasped and hid under his blanket, hoping whoever it was would go away and leave him alone.
It couldn't be his neighbor Sherry who had been watching him since Grandpa left. She said she'd be back in the morning and she always called out when she came in. The not-Sherry noises got louder and louder until they stopped in front of his door. A loud voice came from there. "This the kid's room?" a guy, definitely not Sherry. His door suddenly burst open and Yugi tried to hide even more by clutching his teddy bear and holding his breath.
'I'm not here- go away.' he repeated over and over again in his head. For a moment it seemed to work as everything went quiet. And then the blanket was torn off his bed and a flashlight shone in his face. Terrified, Yugi could do little more than stare at the men in suits standing in his room. Then a new man appeared and scowled at the man holding the flashlight.
"Honestly Kemo do you have any experience with children? Or were you deliberately trying to terrify him? Well congratulations, you succeeded." The man then turned to Yugi and smiled, holding out a hand. "Yugi Motou? Hello, I'm a good friend of your grandfather. Your grandpa was in an unfortunate accident this evening so you're coming to live with me for awhile. You can call me Uncle Max," the man said softly with a big smile. He was wearing a red suit and his long white hair hid one of his eyes. Yugi hesitated for a moment, absorbing all these facts. Grandpa was hurt?
"Will Grandpa be ok?" Yugi blurted out without thinking, forgetting to take Uncle Max's hand. Pegasus frowned at him for a second, sadness filling his face.
"I'm sorry Yugi but he won't be coming back again. But you can come live with me now." Yugi didn't even try to hold back the tears that overwhelmed his face.
"Will you leave me too?" Yugi cried. Pegasus shook his head fiercely.
"I'll never leave you Yugi. You can depend on me." He gathered up the crying boy on his shoulder. "Is there anything you want to take with you?" Yugi sniffled and wiped his face with his pajama sleeve.
"My puzzle. I haven't finished it yet." Yugi declared, pointing to the golden pieces. Uncle Max stared in shock at one piece with a strange eye on it.
"Yugi-boy I think we're going to get along just fine." he declared with another smile.
