Alternate Kingdom

Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-gi-oh! Sorry, I know you're disappointed.

Yugi <pouts> I miss my childhood. Making me grow up in two chapters is mean.

WeirdtheNorn <sighs> I know. You were definitely cuter as an eight year old. But at least I got Marik to give you back your puzzle.

Yami <confused> How did you get the grave keeper to give it up?

WeirdtheNorn <looks at floor> Um how about I used my awesome author authority?

Yugi and Yami <exchange looks> Not buying it.

WeirdtheNorn <sighs> Ok how about I threatened no dessert for a month?

Yugi <looks shocked> That's harsh.

Yami <slaps himself on the forehead for having such a gullible hikari> Wrong again.

Marik <shows up waving millennium rod> I'll tell you pathetic pharaoh. The foolish author has granted me three wishes for your puzzle back. Now I will finally be able to rule the world!

Yami <stares at the idiot author> Are you insane?

WeirdtheNorn <shakes head> Nope. He'll probably just get distracted and wish for something shiny. And if he does accidentally take over the world, well I still have you two.

Yami <scowls> I dislike you.

WeirdtheNorn <shrugs> Can't win them all. Oh well, I'll just have to bribe your hikari with sugar. Come here Yugi, I have something for you. Ok while I'm busy bribing innocent youths, everyone can enjoy reading the next chapter of the story. Have fun and tell me what you think afterwards.

Chapter One

Sixteen year old Yugi Motou-Pegasus raced down the maze-like corridors of the Pegasus mansion while hopping on one foot as he pulled on socks and dress shoes to go with his tie shoved over his shoulder and his jacket wrapped around his waist. Uncle Max hated it when he had taken to wearing leather clothes in his teens and found it fitting revenge to force him to wear suits at all formal occasions. And with Uncle Max, there were a lot of those. Yugi finally got all his clothes on after crashing into a statue and found the dining hall. He started to enter but was forced back as a hand grabbed his arm.

"Jacket Master Motou." Kemo said, nodding at him. Yugi was confused until he looked down to see the black jacket wrapped around his waist.

"Oops. Thanks Kemo." He called as he ran in, throwing on his jacket. He tried slinking in and sliding into his seat but everyone stopped their conversation the moment they saw him.

"Gentlemen, I'd like you to meet my ward, Yugi Motou, who can't seem to tell time. Yugi, these are some new business associates of mine." Pegasus introduced, waving his hand and frowning at the boy.

"It's a pleasure to meet you." Yugi said politely to the five suits as he took his seat next to Uncle Max. Most of the men ignored him but a couple stared in shock.

"I wasn't aware you had a child Mr. Pegasus." One man, Johnson, spoke up. Pegasus laughed and smiled fondly at Yugi.

"The boy is not actually my flesh and blood. He's the grandson of a dear friend of mine who died a couple years back. I've been watching over him since. Trying to teach the boy better dress sense." Yugi sighed at the obvious insult to his clothing and the reminder of grandpa's death. He still missed the old man so much. Johnson however, was not done asking. "That's a very noble deed sir but I was wondering, you said you did this years back- why hasn't the media said anything about it?"

Pegasus frowned at this intrusive question and Yugi held his breath, waiting for the explosion. He had asked this question himself, over and over and Uncle Max never gave him an answer. "I didn't do this for publicity Johnson. I feel that my personal life is of no concern to the rest of the world. If Yugi becomes my heir then I will disclose his presence to the world. Until then, he remains hidden on this island." Uncle Max stated, somehow managing to keep his perfect composure again. Yugi sighed again. Why did he have to remain hidden on the island? He wanted to go out, explore, and see the world. And more than anything he wanted to meet other kids. The closest thing he had to a friend was his tutor; a man in his late 30's called Simon. He was nice enough, but he never wanted to duel or play games. And he only came to the island tow days a week. It was so lonely here. Once again Yugi wished that grandpa had lived. Maybe his life would have been different. With a start, the spiky haired teen realized that the conversation had moved on.

"So you're prepared for the take over Pegasus?" Crumb demanded. Pegasus nodded with a smile.

"Of course gentlemen. This will go through without a hitch. As we speak, I have my men picking up our delivery package and eliminating our little problem. By tomorrow we should have total control of the company. In perfect unison with my new duel monsters tournament." Pegasus declared with a wave. Yugi let out a gasp. 'A duel monsters tournament? Could he possibly go?' He turned eager eyes to his uncle.

"Uncle Max is there any chance I can go to this tournament? If not to compete, just to watch?" Yugi begged. Pegasus laughed and ruffled his hair.

"Of course you can watch it Yugi. It's going to take place here, on this island. However you won't be competing. After all I did teach you everything I know about duel monsters, some people might call that cheating." Yugi smiled so hard his face was going to split in two.

"Thank you Uncle. I can't wait. Can I be excused now to go get ready?" Pegasus nodded and waved his hand, dismissing the boy.

"Of course Yugi-boy. Go find your deck. You really should keep better track of it." Yugi jumped out of his chair happily, ignoring the plate full of untouched food he left behind as he raced for the door and freedom. 'Finally I get to meet other kids. Maybe I'll actually make a friend.' Yugi thought eagerly. Then he looked down at his rumpled suit. 'Oh Ra, what will I wear?' he moaned quietly to himself.
