Alternate Kingdom

Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-gi-oh! Not even a little tiny bit. Sigh.

Ok well this is where I start my explanations and rants. If you are new to this story feel free to skip down to the chapter. If you are wondering what the heck happened to my story on fanfiction.net well here's the deal- I'm not sure why but it was removed. So from now on all future chapters will be on mediaminer.org, my new home away from home. As for the sequel to Wishing Worlds I am going to attempt to put it on fanfiction.net first, here second. Ok explanations over onto the reviews. Thank you so much Alaskantiger, Pharaoh's Atemu's Angel, Yamiko: Dartz's Girl, and LinkGirl for the new reviews. Hopefully this new location won't throw off any readers. And I apologize to anyone whom I missed their review- this moving thing has really thrown me off. And Yamiko: Dartz's Girl don't worry- I have no intention of killing off my favorite character, besides Yugi is way too cute to kill. However I don't seem to have a problem with putting him in grave danger and seeing what happens.

Yami <throws down cardboard box and glares at author> There. That was the last box. Can we go now?

WeirdtheNorn <twirls around large empty room happily> But we haven't explored yet.

Yugi <amethyst eyes fill up with tears, bottom lip trembles> This place is scary. Can't we go back home now?

Marik <sighs in boredom> You mean this place is dull. I demand some entertainment foolish mortal. And some jelly beans.

WeirdtheNorn <eyes cardboard box critically> You know I think this would look better over there. <throws box at Marik> Perfect.

Yami <smirks> I suppose this place does have some appeal.

Yugi <sniffles> But I miss our old fanfiction site.

WeirdtheNorn <holds out candy> Don't worry Yugi. We'll go back there. For the sequel for your first story.

Yugi <shudders> I refuse to go back to a story with Marik Ishtar in it.

Marik <wakes up> You tell 'em Motou. <faints>

WeirdtheNorn <looks around at boxes curiously> Ok which one of you hid my laptop?

Yugi <chewing candy> Yami did. He threw it in a bottomless pit along with the millennium rod and your vacation pictures.

WeirdtheNorn <groans> Why didn't he throw Marik in while he was at it? Ok you two have to go get all that stuff back, now.

Yami <smiles> We can't. There's no way to get any of it back.

WeirdtheNorn <glares> Well you should have thought of that before you went on a destructive spree. Now figure out a way to get my stuff back or you will be cleaning this room with Marik for the rest of this story. <laughs as spiky-haired duelists race off> Ok that was easy. Now onto the next chapter. Enjoy reading and tell me what you think afterwards.

Chapter 4

There was a certain musical quality to the applause of the crowd. The clapping and the cheering blended together so beautifully till it just became one roar of approval. Joey Wheeler never tired of hearing this musical roar. As a world champion duelist, he had had his share of applause, admiring, and girls fainting at his feet. Every girl in the world wanted to be with him and every guy wanted to be him. Especially since he had agreed to be a participant in Maximillion Pegasus's new tournament. He had just brilliantly defeated yet another duelist to the roar of the crowd when the crowd seemed to rebel by whacking him on the back of the head.

"Joey? Earth to Joey Wheeler? Pay attention dummy!" the crowd roar suddenly dissolved into a single voice, yelling loudly in his ear.

"What?" Joey asked brilliantly, looking at a ticked off Tea, and a clearly amused Tristan.

"Joey are you actually going to duel today or are you just going to wait here until you lose?" Tea demanded.

"Uh I was just considering my options Tea- lay off. I have to pick the right playing field so my monsters have the advantage." Joey bragged, using a tip he had heard a short duelist with glasses saying on the boat.

"I'm sorry Joey I just want you to win for Serenity's sake." Tea apologized, her anger dissolving quickly.

"Don't worry Tea. Joey's the best duelist here. Apart from me of course. And I taught him everything he knows." Tristan bragged, puffing out his chest in pride. Joey scowled before launching himself on his best friend.

"You don't know anything about dueling buddy. I learned everything on my own."

"Come on you two stop this. We're not going to get anywhere this way." Tea said.

"You're right Tea. I'll just pick someone at random and then duel. Doesn't matter who." Joey bragged, turning around to eye potential opponents.

"Hum, how 'bout that puny guy? How much of a fight can he put up?" Joey laughed, pointing to the short boy with blue hair, glasses, and a green coat, that he had overheard on the cruise.

"Joey I'm not so sure this is based on size." Tristan started before Tea broke in.

"Joey I think that boy is someone important in the dueling world. I overheard that he got his own room on the boat." Tea said. Joey shook his head, and for once lost his goofy grin for a serious look.

"Joey Wheeler is no dueling monkey. I'm not just going to play wimps to win this prize. If I want to win the title Duelist Kingdom Champ then I'm gonna have to play tough cases too. Hey four-eyes wanna duel?"

The blue-haired boy spun around at his request and smiled wickedly. "Step into my parlor said the spider to the fly." The boy announced with a wave of his hands as a dueling platform appeared behind him.

"Oh man this doesn't look good." Tristan moaned, holding his hands in front of his face to avoid seeing the disaster waiting to happen.

-------------------

<Ok I just want to make a little note here that might disappoint some of you out there. I'm not actually a duelist so as far as the duels in this story go- pretty much all of them will take place off-screen. I know that the Duelist Kingdom season is all about the duels but for me, I would rather focus on the action between duels. I'm not going to say that I will never write in a duel in this story but if you're reading for Yugi, Mai, and Joey dueling, you might want to try a different story. Um, anyone still left? >

------------------

"Gee look at that- another victory. I warned you I could see things and right at the beginning I saw your defeat." Mai bragged as she tossed two star chips happily in her palm. The defeated duelist, a small boy of about 10, looked sadly at his empty dueling glove.

"Well it was worth a shot." He sighed. But Mai never heard him. She was so wrapped up in admiring her new stars that she missed the slumped off exit the boy used. She never noticed anything until Yugi picked up her deck.

"Yugi do you want to see my new star chips?" Mai offered, holding out her dueling glove so the gold stars sparkled. Yugi ignored her, instead picking up her first card, Harpy Lady, and holding it up to his nose.

"You cheat Mai." Yugi announced, matter-of-factly.

"Cheat is such a dirty word Yugi. I worked hard to enhance my performance. I've spent hours memorizing certain perfumes. And I am a world class duelist whether or not I depend on my nose." Mai insisted, her smile disappearing.

"Harpy Lady is a very powerful card Mai. You don't need anything else to win. You're quite capable on your own." Yugi said, putting the card back in the deck. "And besides," he said, handing the deck back to Mai, "dueling cheaters isn't worth a serious duelist's time."

"Did your big brother teach you that hun?" Mai asked, curious of the strong opinion from the shy youth.

"Um, no. My uncle taught it to me." Yugi explained, staring down at his boots, worried that Mai was angry now.

"Your uncle has some sense kiddo. However, I go by a different policy. You can learn a lot from a cheater. But never join a duel you might lose. You never want to show weakness." Mai lectured.

"Mai do you think we can look for my brother now? I don't want him to leave the island without me." Yugi asked, slightly worried.

"Sure you still want to find him hun? I already have five stars. A couple more duels and the two of us can gain entry into the castle for the finals. Besides it's getting dark out. We'll have to camp for the night soon." Mai announced. Yugi turned pale. Nighttime already? Pegasus expected him at dinner and one of his hired suits would alert him if he did not spend the night. Not to mention the fact that if he and Mai entered the castle his cover would be blown. Did he trust Mai enough to tell her his secret? She was a good person but she cheated in her duels. Would friendship mean more to her then money? Yugi sighed and rubbed the eye symbol on his puzzle. What he wouldn't do for some help now. Mai smiled at him, clearly not concerned at all.

"What do you say we play one more duel and then dig into the candy bars?"

"Sure." Yugi said, putting on a fake smile. If something didn't happen soon Mokuba would be doomed and his relationship with Uncle Max would suffer. Then he felt it.

A crackling noise assaulted his ears as a faint tingling spread across his entire body. Lifting his hands he watched in shock as small sparks crackled across them like static electricity. Then suddenly he felt him. A presence inside his body, pushing at him to take over. 'What should I do?' Yugi sobbed but didn't get a choice as he was shoved away, into a small room full of toys. A very different Yugi Motou turned to Mai Valentine, eyes narrowed and mouth twisted into a knowing smirk. "Mai what do you say we try something a little different this time. How about this time I choose the duelist and duel for the star chips?"

"Yugi? You duel for me?" Mai asked, confused. "But Yugi are you any good at dueling?"

"Oh I've had my moments. Mai I can promise you- let me duel and you won't regret it." Yugi declared, a dangerous glint in his eyes.

Nearby a hidden camera picked up the whole scene, a monitor in the castle displaying the event to the amusement of Pegasus. The man chuckled, raising his glass of wine to the screen. "A toast to the Pharaoh, my nephew. May his dueling improve, and his power soon belong to me."

Tbc…

That's it for now. Next chapter Joey recovers from his last duel only to face a bigger opponent- his empty stomach. And Mai tries to figure out exactly who Yugi Wheeler is and what to do with him.
