Devils and Demons
Miranda tapped her finger on the kitchen table and looked at Daniel, who was leaning back in the chair. Daniel bit his lip in thought and shrugged.
“Daniel, what are we going to get Aten for his birthday? It's his eighteenth birthday. It should be special.”
Daniel shrugged. “What about getting him a new set of paint brushes?”
“Joey always gets him new paint brushes. No, it should be something special. Hmm….”
Miranda took a sip of her coffee. “What did you get when you were eighteen?”
“A car.”
“Daniel, we can't get Aten a car. He can't drive.”
“Well, you asked me what I got, sweet cakes. What about you?”
Miranda crossed her arms and shook her head. “I can't…..”
Daniel slapped himself on the forehead. “That's right…you were with Vinnie.”
Miranda nodded quietly. “I'm certainly not getting that for Aten's birthday present.”
“Damn. Sorry, babe.”
“It's okay.”
A knock sounded on the door. “We'll think of something, Daniel. It'll come to us in the middle of the night like it always does.”
Daniel stood up. “Yeah, but it always comes during a good dream. Why can't we get good ideas during nightmares that will wake us up?”
Miranda left the kitchen and walked towards the door. “We'll think of something.”
Miranda opened the door and saw Vera standing with an elderly woman. “M…Mom????”
The woman pushed her spectacles up the bridge of her nose. “Miranda, I have come to save your immortal soul…and the soul of my grandson.”
Daniel rushed to Miranda's side. “Mom?”
“Daniel Allan Morgan! I have come to save your soul, too.”
“Mom, what on Earth are you doing here?”
The woman reached into her purse and handed Miranda a Holy Bible. “I have come to save your family, child.”
“Mom, we don't need saving.”
The elderly woman took the book and slapped Miranda's hand with it hard, making the woman jump back, startled. “You most certainly do! There is a demon amongst you!”
Daniel reached in front of Miranda and pulled his wife behind him. “There is no demon here. We don't need saving. And why do you care so much all of a sudden? You know, it's not coincidence that both of you jokers came to my home within a short amount of time. Vera, I'm packing your things right now!”
The elderly woman chuckled. “She is not leaving and I am not leaving, Daniel, until we have cleansed this house and your family of the evil demon in your midst.”
“What demon are you talking about?”
******************
Robbie's ears perked up as he heard his mother and father's tone of voice. He turned his head towards the closed door of the Studio.
`Mom and Dad haven't talked like that in a long time. In fact, I never remember their tone sounded like that.
Robbie saw the doorknob turn and Aten jumped, startled. Robbie held Aten close and saw Vera open the door.
“Don't be so inconsiderate, you two. We have company. Come and bid well wishes to your grandmother.”
Robbie's eyes widened. “Nana? What's she doing here?”
“Don't sit there like bumps on a log, come out!”
Vera walked away and Robbie turned to Aten.
“I haven't seen Grandmother….since I was a really little kid. I don't remember much of her. From what I can recall….mom brought me in and took me out of the house just as quickly.”
Aten bit his lip and held onto Robbie.
“It will just take a second.”
******************
The elderly woman walked between Miranda and Daniel. She stood in the living room and looked around. Miranda watched the elderly woman walk to the entertainment center and pick up Robbie's wedding picture.
“Where is this girl who married Robbie? She will need to be exorcized too.”
Robbie and Aten walked into the living room, holding hands. “Grandma?”
The woman walked up to Robbie and pushed the her spectacles up the bridge of her nose. “So this is my grandson….Hello, Robert.”
“Grandma? What are you doing here?”
“I am staying here until I save you, Robert!” The woman's gaze turned to Aten. She gasped. “You! You must be that dark-skinned devil!”
Aten looked down at his dark hand holding Robbie's hand tightly. “What's so wrong about my skin? I'm half Egyptian.”
“I don't care what you are, devil.” The woman looked down at Aten's hand holding Robbie's. “Stop this foolishness!” The woman took her hand and slapped Aten's hand hard.
The Egyptian quickly released Robbie's hand and he gripped it tightly. His eyes widened in fear.
[Stop struggling, you little brat!]
Aten held his hand, trembling. “I …..I have some painting to do.”
Aten turned quickly on his heel and walked towards his Studio. “YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE, DEMON!”
Robbie narrowed his eyes. “Grandma, that wasn't nice! Don't ever hit Aten again!”
Robbie turned and raced back to Aten.
Miranda and Daniel stood in front of the woman. “Don't you dare hit Aten! He didn't deserve it!”
“He's an evil being! He's a worthless, dangerous being! I will not have him with my grandson!”
“Well, mom, they are married now and there's not much you can do about it.”
Vera crossed her arms. “See, mother? See how corrupted your youngest has become?”
The woman shook her head. “I expected much better out of you than to open your home to a demon such as him. And you said they were married?”
Daniel nodded. “Yeah, Aten and Robbie were married two years ago.”
The woman's face went pale. “And you both allowed this union?”
Miranda nodded. “Yes. I had no reason to say no.”
Vera grinned. “Don't worry, mummy-dearest. I hear that this boy won't be around much longer. Apparently, he has a fatal heart problem.”
The woman nodded and smiled. “That demon's heart is rotten to the core. When it finally stops, it will free my grandson and you all from his unholy power.”
“What makes you think that Aten is a demon? He's just a regular kid,” Daniel said.
“Not true! I saw him in Robert's room. He was naked as the day he was born! His eyes were black and his hair was spiky. His eyes were evil! Demonic! His nails were sharp! His snarl was not of this world.”
Miranda shook her head. “That wasn't a demon! Aten has…..umm…another personality that takes over him when he is scared or angry.”
“So he is mentally ill, too? Miranda, you should not have allowed those two to marry. This union is cursed. And I will stay to cleanse it.”
Daniel stepped in front of Miranda. “You are not cleansing anything. My boy is with Aten and you have no say.”
“Mom, you never cared about Robbie. I took him to see you once when he was a child and all you did was put him down. You called him a `little crippled whore' at three years old! What grandmother calls a three year old child a whore?”
“You misunderstood me.”
Daniel shook his head. “I know you hate Robbie because of his disability. But that is your issue and not mine. Vera, I find this utterly irresponsible of you!”
“Why, Daniel? Why little old me?”
“You've already turned this house upside-down with your antics. Aten and Robbie do not need your interference in their lives. Miranda and I don't interfere.”
The woman with four teeth and spectacles took hold on Daniel's arms. “Your son's soul is on the line. I want my son to go to heaven, Daniel. It will not happen as long as he is in this…..EVIL relationship with that boy.”
“You are not going to tear Aten and Robbie apart, mom!”
***********************
Aten picked up a paintbrush and a can of paint. He stood in front of a blank canvas and began painting.
Robbie ran in after Aten. “Aten, are you okay? Did she hurt you?”
Aten blinked. “I have to paint.”
“Aten, did she hurt your hand?”
Aten blinked again. “Robbie….let me paint.”
Robbie stepped back. “Aten, if you need to talk, you know where to find me.”
“Robbie….leave me alone.”
Robbie lowered his head and ran out of the room. Robbie walked out of the Studio and towards the stairs.
“Robert, I am going to help you and save you,” the elderly woman said.
Robbie stopped and narrowed his eyes. “I don't need to be saved and I don't need you!”
“ROBERT!”
Robbie hobbled up the stairs with his cane.
“This boy needs me more than I thought. I will be staying. Vera-darling, go get my bags.”
Daniel shook his head. “Vera, you walk out that door, and I will lock both of you out of my house.”
“Daniel, threats do not scare me. I am staying here. I have every right to be involved in my grandson's well-being.”
“That's nonsense! You want to be involved when you have no business involving yourself!”
Daniel narrowed his eyes. “You are not staying here!”
“I am! Need I remind you that I am family and your mother-in-law. I have every right to be here. I will stay, Daniel. You cannot stop me.”
“Not if I throw you out.”
Miranda grabbed Daniel's arm. “Give me a moment, mom.”
Miranda pulled Daniel into the kitchen. “What are we going to do?”
“Three words: Kick. Them. Out. It's that simple.”
“Daniel, that's my mother.”
Daniel pointed to Aten's Studio door. “Did you just see her hit Aten? Did you see his reaction? That boy damn near crapped his pants!”
“I can't turn her away.”
Daniel sighed. “Miranda, think of the havoc they are going to create around here.”
Miranda narrowed her eyes. “Mother won't stop if she doesn't get her way. She's like that.”
“Miranda, Aten doesn't need the added stress. He's already under enough as it is. That boy's going to have a stroke one of these days.”
“Aten hasn't been that bad since Vera arrived. He just had that one really bad day.”
“Haven't you noticed his wheezing? This place smells of smoke and I specifically told her not to smoke in the house.”
Miranda crossed his arms. “Daniel, I just can't turn my mother away.”
“Fine. Well, Aten and Robbie are out of the house a lot anyway. Aten either stays in his Studio or outside.”
“True.”
“So Aten will have limited contact with either of them.”
“That's for the best. I know the boys are planning a night on the town tonight.”
Daniel sighed. “Well, maybe if the boys aren't around, the Wicked Witches of the West will leave.”
Miranda sighed. “Well, Daniel, whatever doesn't kill us will only make us stronger. Robbie's a good boy. I know we'll survive this.”
Daniel smiled and hugged Miranda. “Besides, think of all the fun we can have with them.”
Miranda grinned. “You can only fit one bed by Aten and Robbie's wall.”
A devilish grin crossed Daniel's lip. “Oh, really? I think I can fit two there.”
“You devil.”
Daniel grinned. “Me?”
Miranda nodded and kissed Daniel.
****************
Aten lowered his head and bit his lip. `I shouldn't have blown up at Robbie. It's not his fault. He doesn't know about…that incident. I should go apologize to him.'
Aten replaced the cap of his paint can and put his paintbrush on the table. `Robbie didn't deserve what I said.'
The Egyptian walked out of his Studio and blushed as he passed Miranda and Daniel kissing. He entered the Living Room and the grandmother narrowed her eyes.
“You don't belong in my grandson's life,” she said.
Aten narrowed his eyes at her. “That's not your decision to make.”
Aten walked upstairs and stopped in front of his door. Quiet sobbing came from inside.
The Egyptian turned and leaned his back against the door. `I made Robbie cry…..How could I do that to him?'
`I have to apologize….I can't let Robbie hurt.'
Aten knocked on the door lightly. “Robbie? May I come in?”
A sniffle sounded and Robbie replied quietly. “Yes.”
Aten opened it and found Robbie sitting at the edge of the bed, drying his eyes with the back of his hand.
“Robbie, listen….I'm sorry for barking at you.”
Robbie stood up quickly. “DAMN IT, ATEN! I WAS JUST TRYING TO HELP YOU!”
Aten cringed, hearing Robbie's angry voice. “I know. You were trying to help me. I'm sorry.”
Robbie sniffled and sat on the bed. “Aten, talk to me.”
“About?”
“Why did you react like that when my Grandmom slapped your hand?”
Aten sighed and kneeled between Robbie's legs. He put both of his hands on Robbie's legs. “Robbie, I told you about the cabin….”
Robbie nodded. “Yes.”
“Well, my grandfather also kidnapped me and took me to the Shadow Realm when I was three. I…I remember him putting me on this stone altar. It was cold….He had me strapped to the altar on my back at one point. He was…..trying to get into me….I was struggling…and he slapped me. In the cabin, he slapped my hand in the bathtub for not making him feel good. That is why I was scared, Robbie. I'm sorry.”
Robbie's eyes went wide and he wrapped his arms around Aten, bringing him close. “Aten….baby….”
Robbie held Aten against him tightly. Aten felt a kiss on his ear and he whimpered.
“Robbie, I love you so much…”
“Aten, I didn't mean to intrude….you are entitled to your space.”
Aten shook his head. “No, I shouldn't have snapped. I'm sorry, Robbie.”
Robbie pulled back and stroked Aten's cheek. “Hey, baby…..it's okay.”
Robbie leaned forward and kissed Aten on the lips gently. Aten's hands caressed Robbie's cheek and slipped slowly down and under Robbie's shirt. The blue- eyed teen kissed Aten's neck and kissed the rim of Aten's jaw.
The Egyptian pulled back and smiled. “Thank you, Robbie…for being…understanding.”
Robbie smiled. “Not a problem, Aten. I love you and…I want to help you. Look…don't worry about Grandma. Nothing is going to make us split up. I'm not going to leave you for anything, Aten.”
Aten smiled. “Really?”
“Really. Now. Tell you what. Let's grab some money, go pick up your medication, go to dinner and go to the movies. Then, when we get home, mom and dad will be asleep….and we will be free to do anything we want.”
Aten smiled. “I'd like that.”
Robbie grabbed his cane. “Then, let's get going.”
“I want to stop off at home tonight anyway. I have to see what my sister wants for her birthday.”
“Sure thing,” Robbie said with a final kiss.
Aten pat Robbie on the butt. “Let's go, then.”
*********************
Aria was holding Kai in the living room, his foot bandaged. The little boy cried and hugged his mother tightly.
“Kai, I'm getting a headache,” Ryou groaned.
Aria shot Ryou a dirty look and carried him into the backyard.
Bakura came out of the kitchen. “Ryou, I'm going to the Shadow Realm for a bit.”
“Why?”
“Because I think I know what the problem is.”
Ryou crossed his arms. “And what do you think is my problem?”
Bakura poked Ryou's chest. “This is your problem. I can see right into your heart, Ryou Thomas Bakura, and I can say that your heart has been tainted. It's black. You aren't the man I married anymore. You've become cold, callous, and uncaring.”
“What do you think you will find in the Shadow Realm?”
“I suspect that a certain pharaoh is involved. And I am going to put a stop to it.”
Ryou laughed. “You think Yami is responsible? Really, Bakura.”
“Yes, I do. I am going there right now and you just try to stop me.”
“You can't go to the Shadow Realm without your daughter's abilities.”
Bakura grabbed the Millennium Ring from around his neck. “You are not getting your hands on this, Ryou. Forget it.”
“You are going without Marik?”
“When Marik gets home from work, we are going. So, don't you dare try to warn him!”
Ryou smirked. “As if you could get away with threatening me, Bakura Osiris Itemri!”
Umi carried a box of Kai's toys down the stairs. “Umm…is everything okay here?”
Ryou chuckled. “Bakura's trying to intimidate me again…..TRYING….and failing.”
Bakura growled low in his throat. “That's it, Ryou! I'm going to get Ishtar right now!”
Bakura walked to the door.
“Don't let it hit your ass on the way out, yami!” Ryou called.
Bakura fumed angrily. “Screw you, Ryou!”
“That sounds like a request!”
Umi shifted his eyes uncomfortably between the two.
Bakura opened the door and growled. “I wouldn't stick myself in you if you were the last piece of ass on Earth, Ryou!”
Bakura turned and saw Aten and Robbie standing in front of him.
Aten growled and punched Bakura in the jaw hard. “How dare you talk to my mother like that!”
Bakura held his jaw and snarled back at the teen. “Get the hell out of my way!”
Bakura took Aten and Robbie's shoulders and pushed them both aside. With a furious growl, he left.
Robbie rolled over on the grass and held his arm. “What crawled up his butt and died?”
Aten stood up and brushed the grass off of him. He helped Robbie off of the ground and Umi walked out with the box.
“Hey, guys.”
“Hi, Umi,” Robbie said, brushing the grass off of the back of his jeans.
“I hate to say it…but I'm glad I'm getting Kai away from this fighting. He's a sensitive boy and I want better for him than this.”
Aten peeked his head into the home and saw Ryou on the phone.
“Seto……he was awful! Cruel! He said so many things that were cruel! I don't know what I did wrong……..Really? You'll do that?......Okay…He went to Marik's work to get him..Thank you…..I'll be packed and ready…..Goodbye, Seto.”
Aten walked in as Ryou hung up the phone. “Mother?”
“Aten!” Ryou exclaimed as he ran into Aten's arms.
“What's going on? Did Father Bakura hurt you again?”
Ryou sniffled and cried. “I don't know why he was angry…why does he do such hurtful things?”
“I don't know, mother. I wish I knew,” Aten said as he held his mother in his arms. “I wish I knew.”
***************************
Bakura growled as he ran towards Captain Smiley Buns. `How dare Ryou talk to me like that! And Aten…how dare he strike me! I'll have to get him back for that one!'
The Millennium Ring jingled around his neck as he ran.
His fists clenched as he ran, his blood boiling, his eyes clouded over with rage the more he thought about Ryou.
When he finally reached the restaurant, he threw open the door angrily. The people all turned their heads in surprise as Bakura stood there, seething. His eyes glowed red…his skin turned red. His hair spiked and twitched.
The manager walked up to Bakura cautiously. “Can I…help you, sir?”
Bakura grabbed the manager. “Ishtar….Marik….Jibade….Ishtar. NOOOOOOOWWWW!!!”
Marik looked up from the French fry vat. “Itemri? Bakura?”
Bakura threw the manager to the floor. “I want to see Jibade now!”
Marik removed the French Fries from the vat of bubbling oil and walked to Bakura. “Bakura, are you trying to get me fired?”
“Get out of that pirate outfit and get dressed. We're going to the Shadow Realm.”
Marik helped his manager off of the floor. “Bakura, I can't just up and leave.”
“We can't wait any longer! We need to get to that fucking pharaoh before----.”
“Bakura, watch your language! There are chibis here!”
Bakura grabbed Marik's collar. “We are going home and getting our asses to the Shadow Realm, even if I have to drag you there every inch of the way!”
Marik pulled his arm away. “I can't leave!”
“Why the hell not?”
“My shift doesn't end for four hours yet! Then I have to change the oil in the grease vat, clean the bathroom, and sweep the floor!”
Bakura growled. “You're kidding! And all of that stuff is more important than your lover's life? Ishtar, you have changed.”
“Bakura, I can't just up and leave! I'll lose my job!”
“Moneybags will give you another one.”
Marik shook his head. “I never wanted to be `given' something! I have to work for it if I want anything. Seto offered me a job when I was out of work and I refused his offer.”
“So you'd rather be working in grease and dealing with assholes like these people all day rather than working with Seto Kaiba, who can offer you job security and a better salary than you could ever imagine? I see. Marik, I thought you were smarter than that.”
Bakura turned around at the sound of the screeching of tires.
Marik raised an eyebrow. “Is that Seto's car?”
Out of the car stepped Kendall and Donny.
“What are they doing here?” Marik asked. “Don't tell me Seto's too busy to get a cheeseburger himself.”
Bakura growled. “That's not what they're here for.”
Kendall opened the door. “Bakura, come with us.”
Bakura narrowed his eyes. “And what if I don't?”
Marik turned to his manager. “I'll be back in a moment, sir. Let me handle this.”
Marik and Bakura stepped outside with Kendall and Donny.
Kendall cracked his knuckles. “Master Kaiba told us that you were…..unkind….to Ryou.”
Bakura growled. “Yeah, well, you should have heard the shit he was talking about.”
Donny grabbed Bakura and pulled him close to his body. “Mr. Kaiba doesn't appreciate hearing that Ryou was treated badly.”
“What do you think you two can do to me?”
Kendall clenched his fist and swung at Bakura's exposed ribs. Marik grabbed his fist before it could collide with Bakura's body.
“Leave him alone.”
“We were told to teach Bakura a lesson. It's nothing personal…just business,” Donny said.
“Did you even speak to Ryou about what happened?”
Kendall pulled his arm away from Marik's grip. “Master Kaiba spoke to him. We were told to go make an example of Bakura.”
“Seriously?”
Donny nodded. “Like I said…it's nothing personal…just business.”
Marik shifted his gaze between Donny and Kendall. “You'll have to take both of us on.”
Bakura grinned. “That's my Marik!”
“I won't let you hurt Bakura. And I certainly won't let you get your hands on me, either.”
Kendall reached into his suit jacket quickly and Marik grabbed Kendall's arm. “I know you're going for your fire-stick. It won't work, Ken.”
Donny gave Marik's leg a quick kick and Bakura kneed Donny in the gut. The sniper's grip released on Bakura and Kendall punched Marik's jaw. The blond yami staggered back as Bakura removed the hidden dagger from his jeans pocket.
The switchblade glimmered as Bakura jerked the handle.
With a quick motion with the dagger, he sweeped in front of him.
Donny quickly released him and reached into his suit jacket. Marik turned his head and saw the children in the window crying.
“Itemri….stop.”
Bakura stopped and looked in the window to see a little girl with ponytails sobbing.
“Itemri, we can't do this. There are children watching.”
Kendall and Donny pulled their guns out of their suit jackets. They aimed the guns at Bakura and Marik. The front and rear sights were lined to the yamis' heads.
Bakura and Marik stepped back. “Without our Shadow Powers, we can't stop the bullets from those fire-sticks.”
Marik swallowed hard and watched the crying children in the window. “We can't let the children see this.”
Donny narrowed his eyes. “Bakura, we don't want to do this…but we will if you push us.”
“Guys, we can't do this here. Not in full view of children.”
Donny cocked an eye to the side. He was a father, too. He had four children of his own and he disliked violence in front of children.
“Put it away, Kendall.”
Donny and Kendall replaced their guns in their shoulder holsters. “Bakura, the next time we hear of Ryou being mistreated, we will have to….carry out Mr. Kaiba's orders. We won't…this time.”
“Kaiba ordered that you kill us?”
“No, he ordered that we teach you a lesson. The next time, we won't be so lenient.”
Kendall nodded. “You bitches got off easy. Next time, we'll bust a cap in your asses…both of you.”
Donny and Kendall walked to the limousine and drove away.
Marik heaved a sigh of relief. “That was close.”
Bakura growled. “It looks like I have to have a talk with Moneybags.”
Bakura darted away quickly.
****************************
Hayden pointed at the schematic of KaibaCorp on the table.
“This is how we'll infiltrate the place before anyone can react.” Hayden handed out slips of paper. “These are your security codes. They will allow you access to places that only the Kaiba Family can go. If we get to the top floor quickly, then we have a better chance of taking them down.”
Eric grinned. “I hear Limpy works there now. His ass is mine.”
”Kill Robbie if you want…I just want Seto and Joey.”
”Kill Robbie if you want…I just want Seto and Joey.”
Eric grinned. “I'll slaughter that cripple so that even his own husband can't identify his corpse!”
Hayden grinned. “They will pay dearly for what they've done!”
“I'll stick a gun barrel up his ass and pull the trigger myself!” Eric exclaimed.
“I won't let anyone stop us. In three days, Seto Kaiba will lay in a pool of his own blood,” Hayden grinned.
Mr. Barnes grinned. “And we can extort money out of them, too. We'll raid the Kaiba Vault.”
“I won't stop until every Kaiba lays dead,” Hayden growled.
