Children of the Immortal

Bakura's POV

I struggled against my captor with a growl. I tugged violently at my arms and stamped on my assailant's foot, but it did no good. I thrashed my body around trying to break the hold, but it was no good.
My brown eyes narrowed angrily at the grotesque figure before me, the shadow of a man that Marik and I had created.
Ryou's father……was now a monster….
Steven walked towards me slowly and I growled at him angrily.
”Stay away from me, you god damned bastard!”
Steven chuckled as he pressed me against the zombie holding onto me. “Such a feisty one….”
Steven raised his hand and barbed wire pierced through his skin, leaving blood seeping from his flesh. Is this what Aten had seen so many years ago?
No wonder the kid was terrified.
Steven's hand, covered in barbed wire, reached up and touched my face. I could feel the wire pressing against my skin, threatening to cut into it.
“What's the matter, Bakura? You look like you're in pain.”
I snarled as I felt him press his hand against my cheek and the barbed wire cut into the side of my mouth.
“Not too comfortable a sensation, is it, Bakura?”
I felt my legs start to sting and I realized that barbed wire was crawling up my body slowly.
My flesh was cut by the wire….it was poked and scratched, causing pain.
I smelled blood.
My blood.
Steven pressed against me and I couldn't push him back.
“You look just like my sexy son, Bakura….it's just that spiky hair of yours. Maybe I should cut your hair off…..or scalp you with your own dagger. I wonder how you would look with your skull exposed.”
I kneed Steven in the stomach. “Get yourself another playmate, you bastard!”
“I already had my grandson…..and my own son. Are you offering your daughter to me?”
“You stay away from my Aria!”
Steven laughed. “I have her trapped here in this castle.”
I glared at my captor. “You had better let her go or the death you will suffer will be worst than your first.”
“As you said before, Bakura…..you can't kill the dead. The dead cannot suffer another death after their mortal body has been rid of its soul. You suffer one death.”
“Not true. People die many times through their lives.”
Steven grinned. “Quite true. The Death of Innocence. The Death of A Parent. My son is quite familiar with both.”
“You hurt Ryou. You paid your own friend to kill Ryou's mother. That baby watched his mother die.”
“He still grew up to be a pansy like his mother. Rhea's death was for nothing.”
“Ryou loved his mother! How dare you trivialize her death!”
Steven grinned. “She served her purpose.”
I growled and narrowed my eyes. “What purpose was that?”
“She gave me a boy. That is it. Nothing more. Unfortunately that boy is more of a girl.”
I swung my foot up, connecting my shoe with his face. He stumbled back holding his jaw.
“I love Ryou. I love your son.”
Steven wiped his bloody jaw. “Let him go.”
The Old Vindictive Magician threw me to the floor and stepped on my dagger that fell to the floor.
Steven looked down at me with furious eyes. “So why have you come to my castle?”
I narrowed my eyes. “I felt Ryou's presence here.”
“He is here.”
“What?!” I growled.
Steven grinned. “He is here…Can't you sense him?”
“Bakura?” a tiny voice came from behind a throne.
My ears perked up and I jumped to my feet, careful to keep my eye on Steven. I wasn't about to let that bastard out of my sight for a moment.
“Ryou, I'm coming!”
I bolted behind the throne and saw Ryou curled up in a fetal position on the floor. I gathered him into my arms and nuzzled him. “Baby……speak to me. Please.”
Ryou trembled in my arms. “They're all around me. I'm in danger….my family is in danger.”
I pet Ryou's hair and held him close. “Baby, it's okay. Ryou, I'm here.”
Ryou clutched onto me tightly. “Marik's never going to come back….he's gone…..”
“Marik's at home, Ryou. He's not gone.”
“They'll never give Marik back to us….I'll never see him again.”
Ryou broke out into painful sobs.
What is he talking about? Marik is at home.
“Marik's at home, Ryou. Let's go home. Come on.”
I stood up and picked Ryou up in my arms bridal-style. Ryou rested his head against my shoulder and tucked his arms against his chest.
“I'm getting you home right now, Ry. Hold on.”
“What makes you think you are leaving?” Steven asked as he pet the Berserk Dead Dragon.
“I'm taking Ryou out of here right now. I'm not going to allow Ryou to be anywhere near you.”
I took a step and felt a strong force throw me back. It wasn't easy to fall in such a way that Ryou fell on top of me instead of the ground.
“I'm afraid I can't let you leave yet, Bakura. There are people here who would LOVE to see you.”
My arms kept wrapped tightly around Ryou and I looked up at him. “Ry, you okay?”
“Yes. I want to go home.”
Steven laughed. “Such a child he is!”
I achingly sat up, still holding Ryou against me.
“Your secret is out, Bakura.”
“What secret?”
A swarm of people rushed into the room carrying flashing boxes. What did Ryou call them things?.....Cameras.
The flashing lights from their cameras were blinding. I shielded my eyes as they surrounded us, chattering loudly.
“Mr. Itemri, Can you do a trick?”
“Mr. Itemri, is it true that you are really a zombie?”
“How does it feel to be married to a dead person?” one woman said as she held the microphone to Ryou's mouth.
“Get away from us!” I snarled at the crowd.
Their flashing lights only increased. This was not going to be easy.
These people could not be real. Robbie, Seto, and Joey are the only mortals who knows about the Shadow Realm besides those in our family.
These people are nothing but mirages! Fakes!
I stood over Ryou and growled. “Steven, your little visions are not going to frighten me!”
Steven grinned. “These people feel very much real, Bakura.”
“Shoot him!”
I saw a crowd of police push to the front of the crowd, holding their firesticks high…and aiming them at me.
What?!
A loud bang and I felt a hot, stinging sensation on my throat.
Steven grinned. “That's nothing compared to the death you made me suffer.”
Ryou looked up. “Bakura?!”
I fell to the ground, my hand clutching my bleeding throat.
My eyes stared at Ryou as he covered me with his body and cried. I gasped for breath. I smelled my own blood. I prayed.
Osiris….don't take me now….
Please……
“Take his body back to GeneTech for dissection and a thorough examination.”
“No, leave him alone!” Ryou pleaded.
I saw Steven standing over Ryou.
“You see, Bakura…..everyone knows. Can you imagine the torture they will put you through? What about Ryou? Do you think they will let him off unharmed? What about my granddaughter, Aria? What about Aten? Those are children born of Immortal and Mortal Blood. Can you possibly imagine what it's going to be like for them? Hunted down because of their Blood?”
Ryou turned. “Dad, stop!”
Steven grabbed Ryou's hair. “You're not getting away easy, you little whelp! You won't be spared the fate of your children either!”
Ryou struggled and I reached out for him with my free hand.
“It's still moving!”
I heard a loud bang and the same pain in my stomach as my neck.
Ryou looked down at me as my vision started to blur.
“Bakura! BAKURA, DON'T LEAVE ME!”
********* End Dream Sequence*******

I sat up quickly and found myself on the couch, unable to breathe. I grabbed my neck to make sure it was still there and wasn't gushing blood from a gunshot wound.
My neck and stomach were okay.
That was a messed up dream.
………
………
……..
Steven.
…….
I thought he was gone! He has to be gone! He was blown to pieces by Aria's Nightmare Dragon!
How could he have survived that blast?
Marik and I were lucky to survive as Steven's Temple fell.
Ryou and Malik braved the debris to save us.
“RYOU?! RYOU!”
“He's outside, Itemri,” Marik called from the kitchen. “Are you okay?”
I stood up. “I dreamed about Steven.”
“I dreamed of a harem of Maliks last night,” the blond said with a grin. “It was sexy.”
Ishtars…..
They all have sex on the brain……except Isis and Odion. They appear somewhat normal.
“I'm serious, Marik! I saw Steven in my dream and he said that we were in danger and our secret was out!”
“What secret?”
“Our Shadow Magic.”
Marik shrugged. “Nobody witnessed our duel in the park. It's not like we go around proclaiming our immortal status to the world.”
“Marik, we can't leave anything to chance! I have to go to the Shadow Realm and see for myself that the Castle of Dark Illusions is abandoned. Nobody should live there.”
“Itemri, I think you just had a bad dream.”
I growled at him. “We survived! What makes you think it is impossible that Steven survived too?”
Marik scratched his head. “I guess it's possible.”
“I'm going there.”
“Alone?”
“I don't want to bring Ryou with me. Malik, too. Do you want to come? I don't have a dragon to fly there like you.”
Marik sighed. “Okay. Let me go get my dagger and my Rod.”
“Is Ryou out front?”
“He's in the backyard.”
“I don't want to make him worry. I'll be right upstairs.”
I ran out of the living room and to the back door where I saw Ryou laying on his stomach on a blanket.
I watched him for a moment as he read a book in the sun. His long white hair draped over his shoulders and along his back. His long, delicate fingers picked a cherry out of a bowl and popped it into his mouth. I watched him chew the fruit and swallow slowly. He turned the page in his book and moved his hair off of his shoulder.
My eyes moved down his body, admiring his thin, delicate physique. His shoulders had broadened only slightly. His body was slender.
Ryou shifted his hips on the ground and he licked his lips as read.
His body is so wonderful….
I love him so much.
I only want him safe.
I walked out the door and towards him. “Ryou?”
He looked up at me and smiled. “Hello, yami…..” his smile faded. “You look upset.”
“Ryou, I have to go to the Shadow Realm. I will be back later.”
Ryou closed his book and stood up. “You really look upset. Is something wrong?”
“Ryou, I had a dream and I have to make sure it's not real.”
“Oh, baby….” Ryou walked up to me and he hugged me. Ryou's arms were always gentle and comforting. Every hug offered security. His very presence was one of calm and peace. “Do you want me to come with you?”
“No, Ryou, I don't think that would be a good idea.”
“What was your dream?”
I wrapped my arms around Ryou. “Your father.”
Ryou's body tightened and he shuddered. “My…..father?”
“I saw him in my dream….and I thought the Castle of Dark Illusions had been abandoned thousands of years ago. I have to make sure nobody is there.”
Ryou pulled back from our hug. “I want to go, too. Bring me with you.”
“I don't know about that.”
“I want to go.”
When Ryou's heart was set on something, it was hard to convince him otherwise.
“Okay. Marik is upstairs. He's coming along too.”
Ryou grabbed his cherries and his book.
“You reading those romance novels again?”
Ryou smiled. “I'm almost done this one. It just got to the good scene.”
I watched Ryou's ass as he walked away with the cherries and the book under his arm.
Both could come in handy later.
I took Ryou upstairs and found Malik standing by Marik. “What's this?”
“Malik wanted to come, too.”
“Hikari Ishtar?”
“I belong by Marik's side.”
I grabbed my own dagger and slipped it into my jeans. “Alright. I'll call Aria. It sucks that Yami couldn't give us back our powers for our Millennium Items.
“That's next on our agenda. We'll get our powers back, Itemri.”
Marik and I have discussed this on several occasions. We need our powers back.
I miss my soulroom….and there is no peace on earth like the places in our Items.
My Ring may have been my prison, but it is my home…my sanctuary.
“We will, Ishtar…..we will.”

************************

My daughter opened up a portal to the Shadow Realm after I had explained our situation. She offered to come along, but I told her she was safer at home. She decided to watch the portal and make certain nothing escaped or entered the portal.
I lead Ryou and the Ishtars through the portal to the frigid Shadow Realm.
Ryou wrapped his arms around himself and shuddered. “I forgot how cold this place was.”
Malik looked around and nodded. “Yeah this place is still cold as ice.”
Marik stepped beside me. “Winged Dragon of Ra! Come to your masters!”
I looked at my feet and the `Earthbound Spirit' emerged from the ground. “Shadow King, you have returned.”
“I have come to visit the Castle of Dark Illusions.”
“My King does not wish to go there.”
“I will.”
Ryou leaned down to the zombie. “We have to make sure my father is not in power.”
“Your father?” a calm voice asked.
Ryou looked up and we saw the Change of Heart standing there. “Change of Heart!”
Ryou hugged the angel-devil monster.
A loud roar accompanied the arrival of Marik's dragon. The two Ishtars set to petting the dragon.
“Winged Dragon, we need your assistance. We must go to the Castle of Dark Illusions.'”
The Winged Dragon of Ra looked at me. “Why?”
“I have to make sure the Unfaithful Guardian is not there.”
“I have not heard from him, my Lord.”
Marik pet the dragon. “Take us there.”
The dragon lowered his head and Marik supported Malik on first.
Malik's eyes widened as he felt Marik's hand grope his ass. “Are you enjoying yourself?”
“Immensely,” my former lover said.
I worry about those two Ishtars.
“Come on, Ryou, I'll help you,” Marik said.
“I'll help my own husband on there, Isthar.”
“Are you sure?” Marik asked with a smile.
“You groped your own husband's ass. Be happy with that.”
Marik sighed and climbed onto his dragon.
I helped Ryou onto the dragon and I climbed on top.
I held my arms around Ryou's waist as the dragon took off. I cuddled against his back and smiled. I rested my head against his shoulder and sighed. This was worth the journey.
I heard a moan come from ahead of me. Marik was cuddled up against Malik's back.
“Marik? Are you groping Malik?”
“Yes.”
“Can't you wait until you go home to screw like rabbits?”
“No.”
Another moan escaped Malik and I groaned against Ryou's back. “Sweet Osiris, kill me.”
Ryou smiled and rubbed my hand. He leaned his head back and nuzzled my hair. “It's okay, baby. We're almost there.”
I kept myself huddled against Ryou's back until we arrived at the hovering castle.
When we arrived and we all jumped off the dragon, I turned to the others.
“Malik, Marik, you two will stay together. Ryou, you come with me.”
Malik and Marik both giggled in their dirty-minded fashion.
“We're looking for Steven. If you find him, don't try to confront him alone. Report back here in half an hour and we will see what we find.”
I watched Malik and Marik walk away.
“AND NO POUNDING EACH OTHER IN THE CASTLE OF DARK ILLUSIONS!”
Marik turned and winked at me. He was up to no good………………as usual.
I sighed and shook my head. “Well, Ryou……I worry about those two.”
Ryou said nothing.
I turned my head and he was looking straight ahead of him as if he had no feeling. “Do you think he's really in there, `Kura?”
“I don't know, Ry. We have to go in there and look.”
I felt a wave of anxiety flood through my lover.
“Ryou?” I asked taking his hand. “If you're not ready for this, you can stay by Ra. He will protect you.”
“I….I want to go with you.”
“Are you sure?”
Ryou nodded. “Yes. I want to stay with you.”
I hugged my husband tightly. “Let's go, baby.”
I lead Ryou into the castle holding his hands.
The halls were dark and colder than outside. Torches lined the sides of the halls. Wooden doors lined the hallway. Ryou looked around as we walked through the dim hall.
“Yami….do you think my father is still here?”
My brown eyes scanned the hall and I kept myself tense, waiting for the walls to explode as they did in my dream.
“I don't know, Ryou. I don't hear anything……I don't sense anything nearby.”
Ryou stayed close to my arm as we walked down the hall. As we walked down the hall, I saw the path end and we turned right.
We walked down the hallway and I remained tense.
I had to protect Ryou.
Where are you, Steven?
We found a light shining underneath a door at the end of the hall.
“Yami?” Ryou whimpered.
“It's okay, Ryou. We'll face him together. He won't hurt you.”
We crept to the door slowly. I slowly pushed the door open and we both walked into the room cautiously.
A throne and torches were at the end of the room. A torn rug adorned the center of the room. Nobody was in the room.
I felt Ryou relax.
“There's nobody here.”
Ryou walked away from me, much to my amazement. I saw a painting hanging on the wall behind a throne. It was a painting of a woman dressed in a satin gown….with her face torn away.
“Yami, come look at this.”
I followed Ryou's voice and saw him staring at another picture in the corner.
“It's a woman,” he said as he held up a torn part of the canvas. “Her face has been torn away from the painting.”
“So did the other painting by the throne.” I looked around at the other paintings in the room. All of them had their faces torn off.
“Okay, Ry, this place is beginning to creep me out here. Let's go.”
I grabbed Ryou's hand and we ran out of the door.
“Marik! Malik!”
I went to turn left and I found our old pathway gone.
“Is this place changing or is it just me?” Ryou asked. “Our hallway should be right here.”
“The Castle of Illusions is just that…..what you see one minute won't be real the next.”
A loud scream came from down the hallway.
“Marik's scream!” Ryou gasped.
We ran down the hallway and I heard a deep, dark laughter.
“Welcome to your world of Illusions!”
Ryou screamed. “My father's voice!”
“No, it can't be! We got rid of him in Yami's Temple! I didn't see him in that room!”
“Please stop!” I heard Malik cry. “Maybe Steven's presence in my dream was also an illusion! But he could be anywhere!”
“Hold on, Malik! We're coming!”
I saw an open door and Malik ran out.
“Please help! Marik's going to be killed!”
I ran into the room with my dagger drawn. My eyes widened in horror.
I saw Steven using a dagger to slice through Marik's throat.
Marik twitched and continued to try to scream as his head separated from his body. His windpipe continued to expel air as he was dying.
“YOU SON OF A BITCH!” I ran towards Steven with my dagger unsheathed.
Steven looked up and I saw thousands…..literally thousands of daggers appear behind Steven.
I stopped short.
Steven grinned. “Kill them.”
The daggers raced towards me and I turned to Ryou. “RUN!”
The Daggers flew through me and I saw Malik and Ryou's bodies pierced with daggers.
“Ryou! RYOU! MALIK!”
I raced towards my husband and Malik. “Oh gods…..”
Their blood pooled on the ground. Their bodies were pierced all over.
“Ryou……”
Ryou's eyes went vacant.
Ryou………
My Ryou was dead.
