Aqua Blossoms

A/N: Okay! ^_^ I read a fanfic that involved Yu-Gi-Oh! and mermaids. The idea of it played in my head for months. So…I finally decided to write my own. =D

Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! , but I DO own this fanfic and my weirdo ideas. XD

Yugi sighed and overlooked his new back yard. It wasn't even a yard really, it was a huge cliff above an even bigger lake. He let his violet orbs scan over the cliff briefly, not actually caring about anything at the moment. He thought back to his old home in Tokyo. He lived with his grandfather, and was always getting beat up by bullies. Well…that was two years ago. Now the Mutou had turned eighteen years old, his violet eyes grew sharper, his frames more lean; slightly more muscular, and he was about five foot eleven. So here he was…in Domino City…He rolled his eyes as he remembered Rebecca practically begging Grandpa to bring him to Domino.

::That blonde brat…I bet she doesn't even know I'm here yet!::

Yugi jumped when somebody hugged him. He looked down to see bright yellow hair. He mentally kicked himself for speaking too soon. It was Rebecca Hawkins alright. She knew he was here…

"Hiya Yugi! What's up? I missed you!"

He looked at her crystal blue eyes as she let go, and couldn't help but smile. "Hello Rebecca. I was pretty surprised when Grandpa woke me up at two-thirty in the morning; telling me we'd be moving in a few days."

The thirteen-year-old girl giggled. (A/N: She doesn't have her teddy bear anymore!) He blinked when he realized Rebecca had glasses on.

"Ano…when did you get glasses?"

Rebecca tilted her head to the side. "About…three months ago."

"Oh. That's cool I guess…"

Rebecca shifted nervously as the air became thick with silence. Before, when Yugi was still in Tokyo, they'd never stopped talking-ever. Things were different now…Her Grandpa Arthur told her this might happen. She pouted to get the elder's attention. He looked at her questioningly.

"Something wrong?"

"You don't talk anymore, Yugi!"

The violet-eyed teen laughed. "Hai, I noticed that too."

She smiled and hugged him again, then left to go help Grandpa Solomon and Grandpa Arthur finish the in Game Shop.

Yugi watched her go silently, then glanced back over the side of the cliff. He was about to leave when something caught his eye. A spiraling set of marble stairs twisted down the side of the cliff and to an island as big as a wide two-story house. He noted that it was connected to a rock in the middle of the lake. He blinked when he realized how long it'd take to get down all of the stairs. It was at least an hour and fifteen minutes! Taking a deep breath he walked down the stairs.

By the time he reached the bottom, it was dark outside. He exhaled noisily and let himself fall on his back, right on the smooth island rock. He groaned at the sharp pain in his legs, slowly ebbing away. The eighteen-year-old didn't realize he was being watched; well, until he sat up again. He was startled to see a gorgeous merman basking on the rock connected to the island. He was laying on his stomach, looking at Yugi with dark, crimson eyes. His slender, black tail flicked slightly, kind of blending with his sun kissed skin. Enthralled, Yugi stood and slowly approached. He stopped, though, as he saw the merman's cautious gaze.

Yugi held up his hands. "Ano…I'm not here to hurt anybody…I'm Yugi." The teen held out his hand.

The merman stared at it, then up at Yugi. He finally grasped the hand in his own silk-like ones. "I'm Yami."

The violet-eyed male smiled and delicately sat down beside the merman. He was shocked when Yami lifted a hand, gently brushing the golden bangs from the younger's face. A small smirk graced his lips.

"You look a lot like me…" his deep voice made Yugi involuntarily shiver.

Yugi gave a semi-nod. "Hai…I don't know why we look alike…"

The merman nodded slowly, obviously thinking of something. A moment later he grinned at Yugi and leant forward, placing his lips over Yugi's.

"I want you to come back here everyday Yugi. You're the only person I can talk to…"

The teenager was surprised, but nodded in consent. He put his fingertips over his lips, still feeling the tingling sensation he got from the other's lips. Yami smiled and let his gaze trail over Yugi's thin frame.

"I wish I could walk with you. Then I'd be able to come see you too."

Yugi looked at him with saddened eyes. "Hai… I wish you could come with me too."

Yami gave him a golden locket shaped like a heart. "I want you to wear this, and never take it off. It's a sign of our friendship," the merman pointed to an identical one around his own neck.

Yugi nodded and waved before leaving, telling Yami his grandfather would kill him if he was any later. Yami just watched him go, a small sigh escaping his lips. "I love you…Yugi…"
