Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ August and Everything After ❯ Can you say... sleep over!? (part 1) ( Chapter 3 )
Title: August and Everything After
Author: Jinhito
Summary: An AU fic with Yami/Yugi and other yaoi pairings. Yugi and his friends are part of the Domino High School marching Band. Throughout the season, Yugi starts to notice a certain captivating drummer in the percussion section.
Jinhito: Hey guys! I'm posting today! Whoo! Go spring break! Yeah! Well, not make you wait, Trowa?
//.o : Yep. Jinhito doesn't own anything that has to deal with Yu-Gi-Oh though I'm quite sure she probably wishes she does, but anyway, her quote is that sharing is only fun when it's not your stuff so obviously she owns nothing except her idea of the fic and maybe some original characters she adds in here or there. Hell, she doesn't even own me! But that's beside the point! So onward to the fic.
Jinhito: Yep, and same rules apply... oh hell, you woudn't be reading the third chapter if you were a yaoi-phobe would you? Enjoy!
Chapter 3
Can you say... sleep over!? (part 1)
Yugi had all but run back to the game shop. He shot through the front door, past every customer and up into his room. He slammed the door shut behind himself and gasped for the air his burning lungs so badly craved. After he felt a little calmer than before, he exhaled loudly and slowly slid down the door's frame. Yugi took in a deep breath and placed his hand over his eyes. He felt dizzy.
''What's this weird feeling in me? I... I don't understand.' He shook his head and got up to assess the damage he'd received from those bullies. Yugi walked over to the mirror in his room. He hesitantly lifted up his shirt, openly exposing his smooth stomach. He frowned, however, when he noticed some blue and purple marks beginning to form. He felt like sighing again, the bruises had marred his skin's pale tone, they were very noticeable against his light complexion.
'Those are gonna be so obvious at the swimming party on Saturday...' [1] Yugi sighed and dropped the hem of shirt. He then decided to lay down on his bed. Yugi walked over and flopped down with his hands behind his head. It was only then that he became reabsorbed in his thoughts of that boy.
"Yami..." he tired the word out again. The sound it made as it echoed in his head was beautiful and enchanting. He shut his eyes and whispered it again. "Yami..." The word seemed lost in his mind and he couldn't help but see his savior behind his eyelids once more. 'Those same features... that spiky tri-colored hair... yet you're so different. Just who are you Yami?' Yugi opened his eyes to stare up at the ceiling. He yawned as his eyes fluttered shut after he'd found his room to be rather boring. Sleep claimed him shortly after while he had only one thought on his mind. 'Yami...'
* * * * Meanwhile, downstairs... * * * *
"Yugi? Yugi! YUGI!?" Grandpa shouted up the stairs. He opened his mouth to call for his grandson once again but a quick cough from a customer no doubt caught him off guard. Soloman turned his head slowly and found that all his current customers were eyeing him strangely. The old man smiled sheepishly and turned back to the phone he'd been ignoring. "Look young lady-"
"Roxy." the girl quickly inserted.
"Uh... yes, Roxy, I've called Yugi and I don't think he'll be getting up anytime soon. If you'd like I can tell him you called?" Soloman tried to negotiate.
"Uhm. Sure. Can you tell him Roxy called and that I wanted to know if he wanted to come to our saxophone section sleep over. It's tomorrow, and it's gonna start right after our sectionals." the girl on the other end of the phone line explained. Yugi's grandfather nodded as he made a mental note then hung up. He then turned around nonchalantly and walked over to the counter and hung the phone up on it's holder. It was when he opened his eyes again that he caught all his customers jumping guiltily from eavesdropping Soloman shook his head and sat down on his stool. 'Today's gonna be a long day...'
* * * On the other end of the phone... * * *
Roxy hung up her end of the phone. 'That was... quick?' Roxy shook her head and got up off the chair she'd been sitting on. 'I hope Yugi's okay. Hm... wonder why he didn't answer the phone? Oh well, guess I won't be visiting him today then...' Roxy held her chin between her hand as she though over her current predicament. 'What am I supposed to do now!?' And her answer came.
"Roxanne dear Have you called your entire section about the sleep over you've been planning?" her mother called from somewhere upstairs.
"Yes mom!" Roxy called back as she walked over to the stairs waiting for her mother to appear. She heard rustling and a loud sigh come from the bathroom. "What're you doin' up there ma?" Roxy climbed the first few steps and leaned against the wall.
"Cleaning." her mother simply stated. "Something you wouldn't know about..." she also added quite dryly, fixing her daughter with a stern look. Roxy looked around confused, acting as if she had no clue who her mother was addressing.
"Wha-? Me?" Roxy asked innocently pointing to herself. "Who's messy!?" Roxy's mother shook her head and laughed lightly.
Why you of course Roxanne. I don't believe I have any other daughters around here..." her mother looked around cynically, but not really expecting to see another surprise daughter appear from nowhere. Placing her hands on her hips to signify that her conclusion had been proven, she turned to look at Roxy and ask her the question that had been plaguing her thoughts that whole morning. "So, who's attending this big sleep over you've been planning?"
"Just my section! That's all..." Roxy replied sweetly. Her mother's face, which was previously filled with amusement, changed to slight annoyance.
"And just how many people will there be?"
"Uhm..." Roxy bit her lip, coutning all of her section silently in her head. 'Yugi, Alice, Folio, Nicole, Heather... Eylse...' "Eight ma! No more than that!" Roxy assured.
"All girls?" her mother seemed unconvinced. "You know I don't like the idea of co-ed sleep overs..." her voice carried a warning. Roxy just exhaled and rolled her eyes.
"Aw ma, it's just Yugi... and he's the only guy! It'd be mean to not let him come just 'cuz of his gender. And he's be lonely!" Her mother still looked unconvinced.
"Do I know him well?"
"Yeah! He came over last week for lunch and we played video games all day! Don't you remember?" Roxy coaxed, hoping that her mother would allow her best guy friend to come over. Her mother looked up to the ceiling, trying hard to recall the boy she was told she knew. Suddenly her mother brightened.
"Oh! I remember now! He's that very nice young man you invited to come over last week. He stayed until twelve 'o clock if I remember correctly." She gazed over at her daughter to make sure she had the right young man. Roxy just nodded vigorously. "Sure, he can come over." he mother resolved sweetly. Roxy jumped up and cheered. [2]
"Yes! Thanks mom you're the best!" she rushed over and hugged her mom. "You're not gonna regret your decision!" Roxy called out as she ran up to her room. Roxy's mother just shook her head slowly.
"That's what I'm afraid of..." she mumbled before heading back to clean the house before the party started. Oh, she remembered Roxy's parties well. Always messy... so messy... But before the door shut, Roxy looked back out to her mother.
"Hey ma?"
"Yes dear?"
"Why did you agree so suddenly...? That's not like you..." Roxy noted, a sly tone in her voice.
"Because Roxanne, dear, I think I can trust Yugi."
"Whadda ya mean?" Roxy's mother giggled and pulled out her feather duster from under the sink.
"Well, it's a little obvious the boy's gay honey." she answered bluntly, sweeping the walls of dust as though saying Roxy's friends were homosexual happened everyday.
"MA!?!?!?!?" Roxy shreiked with laughter. And both returned to their previous duties, Roxy to planning and her mother to cleaning.
* * * * Yami's POV * * * *
That boy... Yugi... he's so strange. So... confusing. Why am I so perplexed by him? I mean, he's not anything more than an ordinary kid living an ordinary life right? Then why can't I stop thinking about him!? Jesus this is confusing... I just don't understand! I wonder if I'll ever see him again... I mean, this isn't that big of a place compared to L.A. Hm... Wait! Didn't he have a shirt on that said marching band!? Argh, think Yami think! After smacking myself on the forehead for my incompetence (since I was obviously more interested in him than his actual attire) I tried to remember the little things I had overlooked before. Note to self: pay more attention to the little things, not your impulses. God, I can be such a dofus sometimes... [3]
Getting up and stretching out, I decided to head downstairs and possibly harass my mother until she fed me. My growling stomach scolding me for skipping lunch today. I heard a door slam, the front door no less, and some muffled cursing. Smiling to myself, I headed downstairs. Mom's home...
* * * Reader's POV * * *
A short stout, well aging woman stumbled in through the front door. She swore some more under her breathe as the heavy grocery bags under her arms disobeyed her.
"Yam-yami!!!" she shrieked as a very slippery bag escaped her grasp.
"Need help mother?" Yami called out as he swiftly dived for the grocery bag before it could hit the floor. He slowly slid into a cabinet, then stood to help his mother with other heavier bags. "Did you try to bring in every bag mom!?" he asked with concern. She had been known to pull out her back with such crazy stunts.
"No sweetie, not try, did." she replied as she dumped her now light amount of grocery bags onto the counter. Leaning against it to rest, she wiped away some of the sweat that had formed near her hairline from the exertion. "But thank you for your help dear." she replied in a joking manner.
Yami just snorted. "No problem... maybe next I should let the..." he leaned over to take a look in the bag. "TAMPONS!?!?! MOM!!!!" he flushed red and launched himself away from the table where he'd deposited his first bag. His mother giggled at his "male response." [4]
"Well, Yami, I am a woman, and women do have monthly problems..." she smiled at her sons discomfort.
"B-but Mom... you're not supposed to tell me these things!?!? They're... they... ugh..." he shuddered.
"Dear, you'll have to learn about them at some point. Especially if you ever bring home a girlfriend." she ended in a kidding tone. But burst out laughing when yet again she watched her son fidget and writhe before her. "Relax Yami... I was only playing with you... you don't need to feel pressured about getting a girlfriend. You'll find each other..." she trailed off as she turned to tend to the groceries.
That's what Yami had been afraid of... a girlfriend... But he tried to shake those thoughts out of his head, and he walked to over to his mom and helped her unload all the things she'd bought in silence. After about fifteen minutes they were almost done. Yami had refused to go near the table as long as "those" were there. His mother had laughed at him and taken them upstairs.
"Yami? Can you pull the ground beef out of the fridge so I can start the spaghetti? It's on the middle shelf!" she called over her shoulder as she went upstairs. Yami nodded and walked over to the fridge.
'On the prowl for beef...' he thought as he pulled open the door. The cool breeze hit him and he stepped back to try and look inside and escape the cold at the same time. 'Where are you my dinner?' he asked silently looking for the elusive meat. 'Ah ha! Thought you could hide did you?' he snickered as he grabbed his prey and backed up from the fridge... only to walk into the door he'd opened. A jar fell off the top shelf and threatened to knock Yami out as it barely missed his head.
However, a hand caught it before it could shatter on the floor. "I ask you get the meat, not break stuff." his mother smirked at her sons quirky behavior. 'Wonder why he's acting so strange?' "I also got you something while I was out." She backed away from her son and removed her hand from behind her back.
Yami's eyes widened as he saw her gift."Mom... for me?" he asked somewhat stupidly, the jar incident almost forgotten.
"No... it's a gift for me. Yes for you! So take 'em!" she ordered holding out the drumsticks she'd bought him.
"Thanks Mom... why...?" he asked.
"I figured you'll need some new ones for the season." she cut in. So go try 'em out not stare at them. Go on Yami." she said to her son.
"Thanks..." he said again and leaned over to hug her. "You didn't have to..."
"Your welcome my son."
* * * Next day at sectionals * * *
Yugi and Roxy were in the band room of Domino High School.
"Bye you guys!" Folio waved as she finished locking up her instrument in it's compartment. "I'll see you in an hour or two!"
"Okay! Me and Yugi'll see you there. Don't forget the you know what!" Roxy cupped her hands around her mouth to exaggerate the "you know what's" importance.
Folio stopped and turned. "Now how could I forget that?" she asked Roxy giving her a stupid look. Roxy shook her head and laughed.
"Just gotta make sure! Hee hee, just gotta make sure..." Folio laughed with her and gave her the thumbs up as she left.
"Uh... uhm... Roxy?" Yugi asked looking at his still snickering friend. "What's the you know what?" his face full of confusion.
Roxy dropped her lock and gave Yugi a serious look. "What?"
"Uhm..." Yugi looked flustered.
Roxy's eyes widened in understanding. Smacking her forehead for her forgetfulness, she reached down to get her discarded lock. "Oh, my fault! Sorry... Forgot to tell you!" She quickly slammed her locker door and clicked the lock in place. Leaning over to Yugi's ear she whispered to him. "I'll tell you in the car... Let's just call it operation "Smiling Moon." Yugi snickered at the name. It was just silly, but nodding and going along with Roxy they walked away from the lockers.
"So let's go get your stuff now!" Roxy exclaimed out to act inconspicuous, even though they were the only people in the band room.
"So what did you think of the music this year Roxy?" Yugi asked as he watched her adjust her backpack on her shoulder. They hadn't yt discussed their own personal feelings on it yet. They had had to hurry up and put away their instruments and cases before the percussion arrived.
"Well, so far, from the stuff we've been able to listen to, and the stuff we played... I love it! A latin theme... It's awesome! But it sound a bit different after we move to the actual field. 'Sides we just got our music today and all, hell, we didn't even get halfway through the first sheet of music today." she shrugged and walked off towards the doorway. "So who knows right? I'm willing to give it a chance." Yugi nodded and followed.
The percussion members were just arriving since they only had two minutes before their own sectional was to begin.
"So what have you got planned for tonight Roxy?" Yugi asked as they walked out the doorway. She just giggled and shook her head remembering the you know what and it's role in tonight's party.
"Well, first I think we'll all settle in at my house, maybe have lunch. Then we're gonna go to the arcade! I'm so facing you at ddr... then we'll go back to my place and ordr a few pizzas, maybe watch a movie..." she trailed off.
"Then what?" Yugi stopped in the hallway outside the band room. Roxy giggled and turned to face him.
"Now that is a surprise." a glint in her eye. Yugi nodded and was about to take another step before he remembered he had put his wallet in his case.
"Oh crap! Roxy! Wait! I gotta go back and get my wallet! I'll be right back!" he called over his shoulder and ran back into the band room.
"I'll be by the stairs!" she called back.
Upon reaching his locker, Yugi fumbled with the lock momentarily before it obeyed him and clicked open. Yanking out his instrument case he dug around in the open section of case he had till his hand came upon his wallet. 'Success!' he shouted to himself internally, not wanting to receive odd glances from the percussionists and drumline members already in the room. He then returned his alto case back into it's locker space.
But when walking out the doorway, Yugi forgot to pay attention, to wrapped up in his thoughts of tonight's sleep over. And the consequences for such an action... gets the reaction of walking into someone.
"Ah!" both teens cried out as the force their bodies transferred into each other sent them in opposite directions. The taller of the two stumbling while the shorter went tumbling down onto the cool linoleum tile backside first.
"Are you alright? ... Yugi...?" a kind voice asked him. Yugi braced his palms against the floor before he opened his eyes. 'I know that voice from somewhere... wait! It can't be-! Can it!?' His eyes fluttered open lightly, while his mouth was prepared to apologize. But neither spoke a word when their eyes locked.
'It's him... oh my God, it's him!'
'It's Yugi... I thought I'd never see him again...'
"H-hi..." Yugi flushed breaking the silence between them. Yami smiled at Yugi's visible unease.
"We meet again." the other answered smoothly. Yugi just nodded.
"I-I'm sorry I walked into you... I wasn't paying attention. S-sorry..." Yugi meekly replied, still on the floor. Yami shook his head.
"It's also my fault too. Here, let me help you up." Yami offered his hand to the boy once again. Yugi couldn't help but continue to blush when Yami helped him up off the ground. Quickly dismissing his uncalled for feelings, Yugi released Yami's warm hands once he was sure he could balance his own weight.
"Are you sure you're okay? I did kind of knock you down..." Yami sheepishly added, more to keep Yugi there than for conversational purposes. The latter just nodded and was about to speak again, but was interrupted as another person appeared in the doorway and cleared their throat in hopes of being able to get through. Fortunately or unfortunately both Yami and Yugi were given a moment to themselves to calm down as the person passed by. Though they did stop to eye both boys for a moment. A 'what the hell's up with them?' written on his features. This in turn caused both boys to blush and try to act less inconspicuous than they felt.
"S-so what are you doing here?" Yugi asked as he tried to focus his eyes on something more interesting than Yami. The sad part was that it was a losing battle... there was nothing else in the room more interesting than Yami. The question caught, so called, Yami off guard. And for a moment, he himself forgot why he'd been dropped off here. 'To see you of course Yugi.' But he knew that wasn't the correct answer. Reaching out in anxiety towards his back pocket, his drumsticks reminded him the real reason.
"I'm joining drumline. And you...?" he recovered smoothly, pulling out his drumsticks for emphasis. 'Way to make an ass out of yourself Yami..'
Yugi smiled and pointed towards the instrument lockers. "I'm doing sax line." He then shut his eyes and gave the other boy a pleasant smile. He was going to continue the conversation but Roxy's huffy voice interrupted him.
"YUGI!?!?!? GAHHHHH!!!!! WHAT'RE YOU DOIN' OVER THERE!?!?!? GEEZ!!!!" her shouting seemed to echo on every floor in the high school.
'This has got to be a curse...' Yugi whined. He flushed red again, embarrassed about forgetting Roxy while talking to Yami. "Uh... uhm... I gotta go!" Hastily Yugi waved to a good bye to Yami and took off in the direction of the stairs. Leaving poor Yami all alone again, standing stupidly in the doorway with his mouth ajar.
"Bye...?" he meekly answered.
"Hey! Are you gonna be part of the sectional or are you just gonna stand there?" a girl's voice derailed Yami's train of thought.
"Who? Uh... me?" he asked blankly pointing towards himself with his sticks.
"Yeah you. Who else?" she shook her head amused.
"Uh... uhm... yeah..." Yami sighed and gave up. 'Today's getting odd like yesterday... well, least there's the arcade later...' [5]
* * * At the stairwell... * * *
"What were you doin' over there Yugi!?!? I waited ten whole minutes over here wondering where you were! What was so important you forgot about me?" Roxy asked while she held the door for Yugi. She quirked an eyebrow when he immediately blushed as a response. 'What's that supposed to mean?'
"Uhm... Roxy...?" Yugi asked after some time of walking silently. Roxy's uneasy curious looks were starting to make him feel weird.
"Hm?" she asked as they stopped at the parking lot.
"You never told me what the "you know what" was..." He said quickly. 'Hope that diverts her...'
'Too quickly... trying to change the subject? Ha! I'll get you later Yug.' "Oh yeah... hee hee, just hold on a bit longer, this is secret classified information Yug. When my mom-" A light blue mini-van pulled up."Well, speak of the devil. I'll tell you at my house." She nodded towards the van and they waked over to it. Sliding the back door open she heard her mother's voice.
"Ready to pick up your stuff Yugi?" she asked sweetly. "You two buckle up back there."
"Yes Mrs. Melee." Yugi responded in a kind tone. "Uhm... hey Roxy...?"
"Yeah?" she asked as she fought with the seat belt to buckle herself in. "Freakin' thing..."
Snickering at her Yugi asked "Should I bring anything else other than my sleeping bag, pillow, and self?"
"Uh..." Roxy paused in her battle. "I guess you could bring a board game or something to pass time when we get back to my house." Suddenly, Roxy, regreted her suggestion. Yugi's eyes lit up.
"MONOPOLY!?" he tugged on her sleeve excited. Roxy rolled her eyes and groaned, dysfunctional seat belt forgotten. "Please Yugi... ANYTHING but that!" And she pulled the car door shut.

[1] I dunno about anybody else's marching band but each year when the season first starts the band parents and our director throw a swim party. It's lots of fun. So I figured why not have Domino high school students get one too? 'Sides... it'll give me an excuse for some, oh I don't know, yaoi?
[2] lol I know this seems odd now, the co-ed sleep over thingie, but I just got an idea for the greatest punch line from Roxy's mom!!! lol It's so evil and mean, but oh well, it'll work! Trust me on this!
[3] I've decided I'm making Yami come from California. A friend, Josh's, suggestion.
[4] lol!!! Oh god... sorry guys out there... Couldn't help it. As for the girls... what did you think? Hee hee... grossing guys out with periods can be pretty funny... *coughDILBERTcough*
[5] This is just another excuse for some yaoi. And maybe because I happen to be obsessed with the game dance dance revolution... *cackles evilly* Go people who own trick and can barely do maniac! Whoo!
