/…/ - `Jonouchi's' voice
Chapter twelve: Search Plan
“You're telling me WHAT?!” came a panicked outburst from Kaiba. Marik and Yami flinched.
They were still standing in the living room of red, not the perfect setting considering what just happened.
“Um…I saw Jonouchi…in a---”
“I know what you saw, Marik!” Kaiba was fuming, this occurrence only made him angrier.
Whoever did this to Jonouchi is gonna pay - double than what I had in mind before!
“Will we get mommy back Mr. Kaiba?”
The CEO looked down to see the small girl tugging on the hem of his midnight blue shirt. He had stopped wearing trench coats when Jonouchi had expressed his dislike of them on the brunette.
“Yes, of course we will honey…” The CEO wasn't too sure of it himself, but he had to convince the others he was confident, and to also convince himself.
“Well, what's our course of action?” Bakura said, growing impatient.
“We search dark, filthy places.” Kaiba shivered. Just the thought of Jonouchi in one of those horrible rooms sent a shiver down his spine.
“I can round up my thief buddies,” Bakura said thoughtfully.
“I have some connections around here as well,” Marik said, nodding.
“I'll use any powers I have to help find our friend,” Yami added.
Aria smiled and hugged each of them tightly.
“Come on Aria, let's play a game,” Yugi said. He took Aria's hand and they left the room. Ryou let out a sigh.
“I hope Jonouchi is okay, with his memory still gone and all…”
“I'm sure he's fine tenshi,” Bakura said. He wrapped his strong arms around his hikari from the back. Ryou smiled inwardly. He hadn't heard from that strange voice in a while. Feeling Bakura's body against his gave him the comfort he needed to prove his darker half wasn't disappearing from him.
Yami motioned Kaiba over to the side.
“How are you holding up?” Came Yami's quiet question.
“I'm fine,” the CEO replied, lying.
“I can tell you are not okay. Your eyes give it away.” The former pharaoh folded his arms against his chest.
“I guess I'm not…”
“Just remember, I'm sure Jou cares about you very much and you're on his mind right this minute,” Yami said smiling.
“I don't know Yami.”
The spirit's arms unfolded and he placed one on the taller boy's shoulder.
“I'm sure of it,” he whispered, walking back to join the snow-haired duo.
Kaiba stood there, glued to the spot. Yami seemed so sure of himself. He wanted, no, he strongly desired it to be true. He wanted to be there with Jonouchi, sharing his pain.
Just hang on, Jou. I'll find you.
~
Jonouchi was doing just as Yami said. The only thing on his mind besides saving Toby was wondering how the CEO was doing.
I can just picture him…standing in front of me…those blue eyes staring me down…his hair framing his face…wonder how him and Aria and Mokuba are doin'…
“Umm…mister?” the smaller boy said from below him.
“Yeah, Toby?”
“Are you okay?”
“Well, I was in a car accident earlier and I've lost my memory.” Pain filled the blonde's head as he tried to remember his past yet again.
“Aw, I'm sorry to hear that…”
Just then, Hector decided to grace the room with his filthy presence once again.
“So, both of you are still alive, eh? Time to earn your keep.”
“What?” Jonouchi snapped unintentionally.
“Watch your mouth, boy. Did you think I'd let you stay here for free?? You've gotta be kidding!” Hector laughed and put his finger on his chin in mock thought. “Now what would be good enough to…oh I know!”
Jonouchi feared what Hector was going to say next. His face didn't reflect the fear though; giving the impression he didn't care in the least.
Hector grinned maliciously and walked over to the chained blonde.
“How about starting to earn your keep now? You're also paying for the boy too, you know. You are gay, am I right?”
Jonouchi looked defiantly at his captor. Hector smirked and unbuttoned the blonde's shirt.
Wh…what the hell?!
The man bent over and bit Jonouchi's chest. He watched the blood trickle down the blonde's chest with delight. Toby watched in silent protest. When his hands floated down to the belt on Jou's pants, Jou snarled.
“Now, now, are you going to play nice? Or will the boy get it?” Hector showed his captive a gun hanging from his side.
“You're despicable.”
Hector laughed, his horrible voice resounding in Jonouchi's head. Before Hector continued, he unlocked the chains holding the blonde to the wall.
“You follow me. No questions, no resistance. One wrong move and that boy is as good as dead.”
Jonouchi lowered his head in submission reluctantly and followed Hector out of the room.
Why…why is this stranger doing this for me??
Toby asked himself this while he watched them walk out. He was left alone in the darkness after that, holding his sore stomach.
I miss my mommy…I miss my daddy. I miss my older sister and my dog, Rocky. Is anyone looking for me? Will anyone find me here? Am I gonna die here??
Being only 6 years old, Toby made the situation far worse than it really was. He was alive and semi-well, and he had Jonouchi protecting him. His hopes were somewhat dampened when he heard ear piercing screams coming from where the two men left. Too young to understand, he assumed Hector was beating Jonouchi and cried for him.
“I wish this had never happened…” the small boy whispered, curling up into a small ball.
~
“More coffee, Mr. Kaiba?”
A maid was going around refilling everyone's empty coffee cups. Yugi was having chocolate milk along with Aria because Yami didn't want Yugi to stop growing completely.
“More chocowate milk please!” Aria raised her cup into the air. Yugi nodded as well and the maid refilled their cups also.
“Now, how are we going to search?” Kaiba spread a map out onto the huge table in the dining room. Bakura threw his dagger onto the east part of town, the blade fortunately not piercing the table.
“I'll search with my men and Ryou-bunny there.”
“I'll pick the west clean,” Marik said, not attempting to pierce the map or the table with anything.
“Might as well take the south near the game shop with Yugi,” Yami volunteered.
“Alright. Me, Mokuba, Aria and my public relations will search north.”
Kaiba rubbed his temples. This wasn't going to be easy. He just needed to find Jonouchi before something horrible happened. He had a feeling in his gut that…
No! Jonouchi is okay! Nothing has happened to him! He's safe and not harmed in any way!
Kaiba repeated this over and over like a mantra inside his head.
“Kaiba? Kaiba?”
The CEO's head snapped up to see Ryou waving his hand in his face.
“As I was saying, this man could have gotten out of Domino,” Yami said thoughtfully.
“I'm not so sure about that, since he kidnapped that child and Jonouchi within the same week. Although it is a possibility,” Kaiba said. Aria nodded, trying to keep up with the conversation. She sipped her chocolate milk and thought for a moment.
“Mommy in Domino.”
“Huh?” everyone turned to face her.
“Are you sure, honey?” Kaiba looked at her in disbelief. How could she be so sure?
“I'm sure! I just know!” The small girl insisted on it, nodding her head forcefully. Lightning flashed outside and a clap of thunder followed.
“Alright, let's trust her,” Marik nodded.
“Nii-chan! The weirdest thing happened!” Mokuba exclaimed, running down the grand stairs. “It was storming out…and now it's as clear as a summer day!”
“So it is.”
Marik looked outside and growled.
“I didn't wish for that to happen! I control the weather!”
“Umm…sorry,” Aria said meekly. Everyone turned to her yet again. “I kinda…well…I think sometimes… the weather likes to change on me.”
“What do you mean, girl?” Marik started tapping his rod on the table.
“I'm sorry if you usually control the weather! I don't control it…it kinda just happens!” Aria's eyes welled up with tears and she sniffled loudly.
“Oh look what you did, Rod-boy!” Bakura smacked Marik in the head.
“S-sorry Aria!” Marik said, rubbing his head.
“Wow I just realized, where is Malik?” Kaiba looked around the room and saw no sight of the hikari of Marik.
“Oh, he wanted to shop and surprise Yugi with something,” Marik waved his hand dismissively. “Really, I don't know what gets into him sometimes…”
“Okay so, everyone knows the plan. Now if you'll excuse me and Mokuba, we still have school so…I'll see you all there tomorrow morning.”
“Alright, goodnight Kaiba,” Yugi piped up, hugging the CEO around the waist quickly. Yami nodded to him and allowed himself to be dragged out by his hikari. Ryou and Bakura both bowed in respect and left.
“What do you want to do, Aria? It's dinner time in an hour,” Kaiba said.
“I dunno…I'll play with Mokuba.” Aria skipped out of the dining room.
The brunette sighed. He needed to see the `mutt' so badly. Come to think of it, he had finally gotten out of the habit of calling Jonouchi a mutt. It had always been second nature to him, ever since dungeon dice monsters was over.
I really do hope you're okay, Jonouchi. Hang in there. We're trying our hardest.
~
“So…you do what again?”
Aria was very puzzled. Mokuba was trying to show her how to play video games to no avail.
“Okay I'll explain again: when the light turns green you press the X button down and use the little stick thing to move your motorcyclist.”
He demonstrated it for the third time to the confused girl.
“So…like this?” Aria pressed the X button down and twirled the stick in a circle.
“No, no. You have to just move it gently left or right, otherwise the guy will spin out of control…”
“Ooh! Okay! Let's try again!” Aria said, getting ready to race.
“3, 2, 1, go!” the video game announced, turning the light green. The characters on the screen all started racing across the track.
“I got it now!” Aria exclaimed, passing everyone by and sliding into first place.
“How the heck did you do that?!” Mokuba looked at the screen in disbelief. An eight year old was beating him at his best game! Aria's character passed the finish line first. She turned to the raven-haired boy and gave him a big smile.
“This is fun! Let's play again!”
“I'm definitely going to beat you this time!” Mokuba selected the place again and pressed the button.
“3, 2, 1, go!” the TV screen announced once again.
Mokuba took the lead, and he squealed happily. Aria just laughed, and somehow her character sped up and stayed next to Mokuba's character.
What?!
“Yay I win!!”
Mokuba put his head in his hands in frustration. That was the second time she beat him, very easily no less.
“Alright Aria, let's do something else.”
“Like what?” Aria looked around Mokuba's room curiously.
“Like…” Mokuba looked around frantically for something to do. “Um…I'll read you a story!”
“Okay.” Aria smiled and crawled into Mokuba's lap as he reached into his pile of books for a suitable one.
“Oh, this ones good. It's called `The huge space mystery'.”
Aria giggled and looked at the cover, filled with astronauts and planets and stars.
“Yay! Read it!” Aria snuggled close to Mokuba, who blushed slightly.
“Alright.” Mokuba opened up the book and flipped to the first page. “Once upon a time there was an astronaut. This astronaut wanted to travel to the moon. Not just to see the moon, but to see the aliens that lived on the moon.”
“What a silly man.” Aria yawned and flipped the page for Mokuba.
“Yes, he is. So, the astronaut gathered up all his space gear and his spaceship and blasted off into outer space.” Mokuba showed Aria the pictures of the astronaut floating in the spaceship and eating out of the tubes they put space food in. Aria giggled and made fun of the way he was eating. Mokuba turned the page and read on. “He finally landed on the moon. He put his space suit on and stepped out onto the ground. The lack of gravity made him able to bounce around and jump really high.”
The picture showed the astronaut doing flips and skipping along the surface of the moon. Mokuba flipped the page and it showed a small green alien alone on the moon. It had ears sticking out of its sides that were pointed and two antennas going straight up. The alien also had black stripes on its body.
“This alien was very confused,” Mokuba continued, “he heard something land but didn't know where it was. So the little alien set off to find it.” After he flipped the page it went back to the astronaut. “The astronaut finally decided to set off in search of the aliens. He started walking and came across some odd footprints. He decided to follow these hoping they led somewhere.” The next page revealed the little alien again. “The alien finally came across the astronauts spaceship. `What is this?' the alien scratched his head. He looked down and saw footprints that weren't his. The little alien decided to follow these instead.” The next page revealed a far away shot of the moon with the astronaut on top and the alien on the bottom. “The huge space mystery is; will the astronaut and the alien ever find each other??”
Mokuba closed the book shut with a small snapping sound and looked down at Aria. She smiled up at him and clapped her hands together.
“You gotta read that to me again tomorrow Mokuba!” She nodded along with her words enthusiastically.
“Alright I will,” Mokuba laughed.
“Mokuba! Aria! Dinner!” Kaiba called from downstairs.
“Alright chibi, let's go have some dinner.”
Mokuba took Aria's hand and led her out of his room. They walked down the stairs slowly and arrived in the dining room 2 minutes later.
“Wow that was your slowest time ever Mokuba!” Kaiba looked down at the stopwatch he clicked. “2 minutes. Usually you're down in less than one.”
“When did you start timing me…Nii-san?” Mokuba stared at the stopwatch he'd never seen before.
“Since today,” Kaiba grinned in a way that made chills go up and down Mokuba's spine several times.
Alright…I got Aria's mind off of Jonouchi…but I don't think Nii-san is holding up…
The cook walked in and gave everyone some turkey and gravy. Kaiba stared at it like it was a foreign food. Jonouchi had this, his first night here.
/Hey! Why'd you start without me?/
“Huh?” Kaiba looked around. He was sure he heard Jonouchi's voice.
“What's wrong, Mr. Kaiba?” Aria asked, swirling the gravy around with a silver spoon.
“Nothing, honey,” the CEO sighed and picked up a piece of turkey, chomping down on it and chewing it thoughtfully.
/Mmmm! My favorite!/
Kaiba turned to see Jonouchi standing behind him.
“Jonouchi?…”
Mokuba and Aria both looked up at the remark from the brunette. They couldn't see anything, but the `Jonouchi' standing there that Kaiba saw was transparent and glowing.
/You better find me, Kaiba. Or it's your entire fault. Don't let me die. Come save me. You know where I am!/
“I do?…” Kaiba just stared at the image his mind created up, or so he thought.
/Yes! Come! Hurry!/
The image vanished.
“No! Come back Jonouchi!” Kaiba reached his hand out in vain.
“Um…Nii-san? There's no one there…” Mokuba got out of his chair and put his hand on his brother's arm. Kaiba jumped and stared into Mokuba as if not recognizing him for a second. “Nii-san?” Mokuba said worriedly.
“Huh?…” the CEO looked around wildly. “Where's Jonouchi?!”
“Still gone,” the raven-haired boy said.
“Oh…” Kaiba's expression saddened.
“But we'll find him, don't worry.” Aria nodded and ate her entire serving of turkey in under 2 seconds.
“Wow…” Mokuba stared at her eating.
“I saw him…” Kaiba said, whispering.
“Jonouchi?”
“Yeah, Mokuba. He was…talking about saving him quickly or…if he dies it's my fault.”
“Don't listen to it, Seto. It's just your mind playing tricks on you.” Mokuba patted Kaiba on the back and sat back down.
Or was it?…
Kaiba thought this over very carefully during the entire rest of the meal.
~
“Yami…” Yugi whined.
“Yes, aibou?” the former pharaoh turned to face his hikari. Yugi was lying on his bed, hair tousled with no shirt on.
“Hold me.” The shorter of the two held his arms out.
“You are too cute,” Yami grinned, closing the distance between them in seconds, wrapping his arms around his light. He picked him up and Yugi wrapped his legs around his yami's waist. They kissed passionately, letting their tongues explore the other's mouths. Marik walked in, grinned and made an obnoxious comment.
“Ooh the Motou's are DOING IT!!!”
Yugi blushed a thousand shades of red if that was humanely possible, and Yami dropped his light on the bed before chasing after the yami Ishtar.
We're never gonna have time alone it seems…
Yugi thought mentally, trying to recover from what just happened and putting a shirt on at the same time.
Malik walked into Yugi's room and smiled.
“I have a surprise for you, Yugi!” He practically squealed while taking Yugi's hand. The hikari Ishtar pulled the smaller boy down the stairs and into the kitchen.
“I don't see any --- ohhh!” Yugi stared at the huge cake in front of him. It said in big frosted letters: `Thank you for your hospitality!'. Although not even Malik knew how that long word fit on the cake. It was just a very big cake to begin with.
“Thanks Malik!” Yugi hugged him tightly. “We can have that for desert tonight!”
“Yeah.” Malik smiled and showed Yugi a small wrapped box. “I made one for Kaiba too. A sympathy cake. Him and Mokuba need it right now.”
“You're so thoughtful, Malik.” Yugi took the box and placed it on the counter. “I'll bring it to school tomorrow.”
“Marik Ishtar!” Yami screamed upstairs.
“You can't catch me!” Marik stuck his tongue out and wiggled his fingers. The former pharaoh growled and sprinted after him. The blonde yami ran down the stairs and hid behind his hikari, Yami followed him glaring daggers.
“Enough, boys!” Malik clapped his hands. “We have to eat some dinner, and I've prepared something special. I've also baked a lovely cake for desert.”
“Oooh! Yum.” Marik went to take some icing off with his finger.
Malik slapped his yami's hand away.
“It's only for desert,” he said in a scolding tone.
“What did you make for dinner, Malik??” Yugi asked eagerly.
“Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy!” the blonde hikari beamed.
“Sounds delicious,” Yami licked his lips at the thought of it.
“Alright, I'll go get it and everyone else set the table for me.”
Malik left and Yugi and Yami set up the table for four.
“Enjoy!” Malik walked in with a huge bowl of chicken. He came back with a ton of gravy and a bowl of mashed potatoes almost as big as the chicken bowl.
“It looks so good!” Marik exclaimed. He piled his plate up with food and started shoveling it into his mouth.
“He has bad table manners,” Malik said, apologizing for Marik's behavior.
“It's okay,” Yugi smiled, accepting Malik's apology. Friends, regardless of table manners, could eat over his house any day.
~
Hector walked in with his hand firmly wrapped around Jonouchi's bare arm. Jonouchi's shirt was torn apart and barely clung to him, giving him no warmth. His pants were completely gone and he only had torn boxers to protect his vulnerable area. Even his socks and sneakers were missing. Hector threw him on the floor next to Toby who looked at the blonde with concern. Jonouchi hit the ground hard, his face touching the dust that was on the dirty floor. He inhaled the dust and started coughing and choking.
“Thanks for your keep.” Hector smirked at the blonde before walking out, not even bothering to chain him back up. The room was pitch black for a few seconds and Toby waited for his eyes to adjust to check to see if Jonouchi was okay.
Jonouchi whimpered, assuming the fetal position, as well as rocking back and forth. His arms clutched his shoulders tightly and his already torn clothes ripped even more.
“Mister?” Toby tried to touch Jonouchi's arm but he shuddered violently.
“Get away from me!” he cried, scratching at his arms, legs and face. “So dirty…” he muttered. “Dirty…”
