Broken Reality
Chapter 3: End of Realization

A warm body pressed tightly against his own as the morning sun made its appearance over the horizon. Sitting up he stared at the boy beside him and for a dreadful moment wondered if it had all been a dream. Large eyes fluttered open, one hand fisting up to rub at them, so much like a kitten. Coming awake, a radiant smile washed over Yugi's face. Picking Yami's hand off the blanket, he brought it to his lips and offered the palm a quick kiss in way of greeting.

"Good morning to you as well Aibou."

"I'm glad you're not mad at me," it was close to a question, needing to be reassured.

"Of corse not. Now get up, we have things to do today."

And indeed they did. Rousing the others with some effort, much of which was applied in the case of Joey, they packed their meager gear and proceeded on their way. It was to no particular destination that they walked, for this trip was not one of duels or souls or star chips, just of friends and happiness.

Yami watched as his light idly snagged a flower from the forest floor as they navigated the ancient trees and dense foliage. Gingerly he sniffed if, smiled, and held it out for Yami's inspection. It smelled pleasant and had a lovely deep color, but it seemed very fragile too. Much like his aibou.

/What are you thinking of?/

//Why?// It was odd for Yugi to be so prying.

/For a moment, you looked very happy./

//I was thinking of you.//

His statement brought a blush to Yugi's cheeks, he was about to reply but ran suddenly into Tristian instead. Apparently the others had stopped without their knowledge.

"Sorry Tristian," Yugi apologized hastily, backing up and stepping into Yami which made his cheeks glow once again. He turned about, looking completely at a loss for what to do.

//Calm down Aibou.//

/I am trying./

Joey waved a hand in front of Yugi's face, once more proving he had not quite mastered the skill of speaking with Yami and paying attention to others at the same time.

The stopping had apparently concerned lunch, although Yami couldn't quite fathom that that much time had passed. The sun however disagreed, beaming down brightly from directly over head. So, they ate, sandwiches that were getting stale and the last of their warm soft drinks. Tomorrow night they would be home, a blessing for some, not for others.

Sitting on the newly stained edge of the tattered blanket, Yami abandoned thoughts of eating to play a bit with Yugi. The boy couldn't expect him to be a gentleman /all/ the time after all. It wasn't much, just a touch behind someone's back or a long look, or certain whispered words across their bond. Finally he settled for laying his hand, as if by accident, across his light's. He could feel the boy's longing for a closer embrace, but the eyes of friends prevented such a display. Briefly he wondered what they would tell them when the time came, perhaps it would work itself out, but he doubted it.

Subaru-san: Shhhh! You're gonna give it away!

Miko: Just kidding about the table, that's another fic, but the lemon is on the way...if you review that is...
