Chapter One: Keeper
The boy walked towards the park slowly, the fallen, and still falling, snow hampering his movements. He held his coat about his body tightly. If his brother knew he was out of the house again, all would be over.
Mokuba didn't know what it was that attracted him so about the park, but, ever since meeting Noa, he found himself drawn to a small tree in the park that was probably about the age of Noa. His intuition said it had something to do with the dead boy, but logic pointed out that Noa was, indeed, dead.
Mokuba never did like logic.
The boy sat on the park bench in front of the tree after wiping it off. He closed his eyes and leaned back, letting out a yawn. He was supposed to be sleeping right then. "Well, maybe a short nap...." He mumbled before curling up and drifting off in the dark whiteness.

"Mokuba? I'm leaving for work." Seto knocked lightly on his younger brother's door. When he received no answer, he opened the door and stepped into the room. "Mokuba?"
An open window let in a cold draft and the brunette shivered, but not entirely from the chill. He turned and fled down the stairs, his face a mask of annoyance, despite the worry biting at his heart. "Sir?" A female servant looked out at him as the teen pulled on his winter gear.
"Mokuba left again. I'm going to find him." Seto said sharply, then ran out the front door before the woman could reply. Once he'd passed through the front gates of his property, he turned towards the park. Mokuba would be there, he somehow knew.

"Mokuba, you have to wake up! Oh....you never should have come here! Damnit!" A green-haired ghost stomped on the snow-covered ground. Mokuba slept soundly on the bench in front of him. "Baka!" He wacked his own head a few times, as if it would help.
"Mokuba!" Seto's shout rang through the early morning silence. "Mokuba!"
"Seto?" The ghost turned towards the voice. "Seto! Over here!" He shouted, as if it would help. He wacked himself again for such a stupid thought.
The brunette paused when he saw his brother. His eyes flickered over the spot where the ghost stood for a second, then he ran over to his brother. He checked for a pulse, face expressionless. "You baka." He growled, picking his brother up and wrapping the boy in his own much larger coat, leaving the elder boy to shiver unconsciously in the chill. "How many times must I tell you not to go chasing after ghosts?" His voice carried a sarcastic edge to it as he turned and started running for home.
The ghost followed the two, floating an inch above the snow, rather than running. "I'd take him to a hospital, personally. He's been out here all night." He mumbled to himself.
Seto immediately changed course. The ghost stopped in shock for a few seconds, then hurried to catch up to the two living boys. "Seto? Can you see me?" He asked. Seto didn't respond. "Can you hear me?" Again, no response. "That shirt clashes with your coat." He said decidedly.
"Since when have you been a fashion critic?" Seto finally spoke.
"Hah! I knew it!" The ghost laughed triumphantly. Seto made no response. Once his laughter had died down, the ghost looked at the brunette curiously. "Why can you see me, Seto?"
"Don't you hate me, or something?" Seto replied sharply as Kaiba Hospital(*) came into view.
"When you're as lonely as I am, you can't afford to hate those who might provide companionship." The green-haired boy whispered sadly.
Seto stopped to look at the ghost for the first time. "We need to talk." He decided, then turned and walked into the hospital calmly. He didn't look at all out of breath, despite the run he'd just made. The ghost followed quietly.

"Why do you continue to lead Mokuba to the park?" Seto asked coldly as he sat across from the ghost in Mokuba's hospital room. The young boy had caught a severe cold and had yet to wake up, but had managed to avoid frostbite, much to everyone's relief and amazement.
"I don't lead him!" The ghost cried, aggravated. "I go where I want and he follows!"
Seto snorted. "Say what you want, Noa." He spoke the ghost's name like a curse.
"Do you really think I'd be cruel enough to lead Mokuba out to the park in the middle of winter?!"
"Since when have I looked like a mind reader?" Seto's voice was cool and calm, a complete opposite of that of his ghostly companion.
"Why the hell are you so cynical?!" Noa screamed, losing his temper.
"Screaming gets you nowhere." Seto pointed out calmly.
"Answer the damned question, you ass." Noa answered with a growl, attempting to rein in his temper once again as he spoke.
Seto smirked. "Maybe I don't feel like it." Noa glared at him. "And, whether on purpose or accident, you do lead Mokuba around. You need to recognize this. He can't see or hear you, like I can, but he senses you. He follows you because you're familiar to him, and something he's lost. He'll continue to follow you. It's probably because a part of him thinks he might, once again, be able to make contact with you in this realm." Seto's voice had softened as he spoke.
"How come you can see and hear me, Seto?" Noa asked curiously, his featured softened by the love and cared he'd just seen in the CEO when he spoke of his brother.
Seto shrugged and looked at his brother's sleeping form."The only possible explanation I can give you is that is has to do with all that rubbish Isis was telling me about being a reincarnation of a priest in Egypt."
Noa glanced up at the ceiling. "And Egyptian priests could see ghosts?"
Seto rolled his eyes. "How the hell should I know?"
"You're the reincarnation." Noa said pointedly.
Seto snorted. "If you believe in such things."
"Next you'll be telling me you don't believe in ghosts!" Noa shot at the younger boy.
Seto met the ghostly eyes that mirrored his own coolly. "Maybe I don't."
Noa gaped at him. "How can you no-"
"Niisama?" Mokuba called from the bed.
Seto stood smoothly, as if he had only been sitting there, waiting for his brother to awaken, rather than speaking to Noa, and walked over to the boy. "How are you feeling?" His voice was soft, kind, and loving.
Mokuba sat up slightly. "Cold." He sneezed. "Are you mad at me?" He settled sorry blue eyes on his brother's face.
"Maybe you should explain what's going on to him." Noa suggested.
Seto gave no indication that he'd heard the ghost. "A little, yes. You could have died out there. I was hoping you'd listen to me the first time."
"Gomen nasai, Niisama...." Mokuba mumbled, hanging his head. A drip hit the bed sheet beneath his bowed head.
"You unfeeling asshole!" Noa shouted at Seto. "What the hell are you yelling at him for?!"
Seto shot Noa a bone-chilling look, to get the ghost to shut up, then sat down next to Mokuba and drew the boy into a hug. "I'm sorry I upset you, Mokuba. It's just, you scared me." He admitted softly.
Mokuba cuddled against Seto's chest. "I love you, Niisama..." He mumbled, closing his eyes to sleep.
Seto froze. ~Could he...? No!~ He forced a smile, even though the boy wouldn't see it. "I love you too, Mokuba." ~More than you know.~ His mind added sadly.
Noa hummed to himself quietly. "Interesting...." He mumbled, watching the brothers. "Very interesting..."
********Tsutsuku ********
(*)Seen in episode 114, during the Noa Arc. This is the hospital Noa was taken after he was hit. Gozaburo may very well have had it destroyed, as this is the sole time we see it, as far as I know, but it exists in this fic, because I feel like it.
A/N: I must make this short, as moi koi is about to kill me for taking time away from talking to her!!! *panic*
Well, my promise to the Seto/Moku list I'm a member of was that, as soon as chapter 3 for this series was written, I'd post this chapter. Well, chapter 3 is written, so this is now being posted!! YAY!!
Chapter 2 will arrive once chapter 4 is done, sooner if writer's block hits me.
Till next time!!
