Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Bull's-Eye ❯ Chapter 1

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

This is just a random one-shot that I wrote today while bored. The main character in this short story doesn't state his or her name, so it can be whoever you imagine it to be. However if I do plan a sequel, which I might, then the character's name will be revealed. It will more than likely be an O/C though. Review if you feel that this story is worth it. Thanks.

Bull's-Eye
===================

The night was cold and clear and damp. Dew settled on the grass and the trees swayed in the midnight wind. A few laughs and shouts pierced the night sky in the distance from the other pathetic excuses of duelists. I preferred to duel alone, travel alone, achieve alone. Everyone and everything avoided me, knowing my traits could put an iceberg to shame. I was feared by all, all except my main rival. I continued to travel through the woods, listening to the rustling of wild animals in the bushes and the sounds of twigs breaking beneath my feet. A snowy owl swooped overheard, screaming its cry, hunting its recognition down. Walking alone through the night not knowing exactly where you are going puts you calming mood; almost like overdosing on acid.

I stared smugly down at the two star chips which filled my dueling glove which I had won previously today. Only one more to go. The Barbie in the purple boots was too easy to beat. As for that amateur blonde headed kid, ha, what a joke he is. He puts dueling to shame. Third rate duelists shouldn't be allowed on this island. I had every intention on facing that tri-haired kid, Yugi or whatever his name was. Just because he owns some magical piece of garbage doesn't faze me.

My main target was the oh-so-rich, oh-so-arrogant but oh-so-handsome CEO of KaibaCorp - Seto Kaiba himself. I'm at the same level, if not better, than him at dueling. Sure he owns the legendary Blue Eyes White Dragon, but little does he know that I am the owner of another. I heard talk that people say that Kaiba and I are related. I just laughed it off. How can we be related when I have my own family? It's probably the matching persona we carry. I knew that in every way he was like me. We even had a little brother each that we cared so deeply for. But nevermind that. My brother isn't my reason why I'm on this island in the middle of nowhere.

The only contact I ever had with Seto Kaiba was at an elite duelists meeting held at KaibaCorp. We shook hands briefly, not caring in the slightest about who the other was. It wasn't until the word spread about Kaiba being the number one duelist in the world that I have forever wanted to challenge him. Challenge him to a duel. Hard. Fast. Painful. Merciless. He was in for a rude awakening once he crosses my path.

He is what I am searching for. I came to Duelist Kingdom to win his star chips, to take his place in the finals. To duel Pegasus J. Crawford and win over the riches that awaited me. Perhaps if I was nice I would rescue little Mokuba Kaiba too; that would only make me richer. Kaiba's reward would be immense. However, when I make it that far, some tough duels would await me. I know Kaiba won't be an easy opponent. He doesn't take any prisoners. Then again, nor do I.

Excellent, the beach was now in my view. Waves lapped at the shore, begging me to come and play; even if it was midnight or later. My feet sunk deep into the sand; making me struggle to walk smoothly. In the distance I could see fires which were eventually burning out along the beach. It was obviously a popular spot for duelists to settle for the night. Guess they had the same idea as I did. Perhaps there were some intelligent duelists out there. I heard a crunching sound behind me. I didn't bother to look back - it was probably just a fox or some other wretched animal.

"What do you think you are doing?" A voice.

"Excuse me?" I turned around. The figure beneath the shade of a pine tree eyed me.

"It's ten past one in the morning. You're mad if you're looking for a duel at this hour."

I clenched my fists. "Show yourself."

From the shadows emerged a short, white haired boy. I had seen him on the ship to Duelist Kingdom. He always seemed to come and go, though. I hadn't the knowledge of his name.

"Who are you?" I stated.

"I go by the name of Bakura, spirit of the Ring."

I rolled my eyes. Here we go again with the `spirits'. "Right. Nice meeting you then, Bakura." I turned on my heel once more to continue my trek.

"You are looking for Seto Kaiba, no?" `Bakura' asked me. He was playing mind games. How could he possibly know who I was looking for? Then again, he was a `spirit'. I turned to face him.

"Proceed."

He pointed in a westerly direction down the shoreline to a sparking orange fire in the distance. "The man you search for is sitting by that fire. He is awake, but not expecting you."

I nodded. "Thank you. But I can find Kaiba without your help." I kept walking. The figure behind me disappeared. There sure were some queer duelists in this tournament. That bug freak Weevil was an easy opponent, as was Rex Raptor. Their insects and dinosaurs don't scare me. Kaiba is my main threat.

I continued my hike down the rugged beach, passing several groups of sleeping duelists. Maybe that white-haired `spirit' was right. But what if he were wrong? I trusted nobody on this island. Hell, I trusted nobody period. I guess it wouldn't hurt if I was to just casually walk by Kaiba's campsite. I made my decision and kept walking. The blazing fire on the beach burned brighter the closer I approached. Hmm, figure that. The spirit was correct. I halted on the other side of Kaiba's skillfully made campfire. Sparks flew out angrily into the sky. The inferno created a glowing aura around him as he sat, carefully taking in the lethal poison of a cigarette. It reminded me that I had gone an hour without one myself.

"Who are you and what do you want?" Kaiba asked sternly. I admired the air of dignity in his icy tone.

I smiled complacently. "I've been searching for you, Seto Kaiba. Do you not remember this face?" I asked, pointing to my face, my eyes locked on his.

He narrowed his gaze at me slightly. "I've seen you before somewhere… but where…"

"You're right on that one. What you don't know is that I am another holder of your most treasured card."

He snarled at me. "You're bluffing."

"Am I?" I asked as I took my pouch out of my bag and began to roll up a cigarette.

"Show me your deck, stranger." He demanded.

"No need to be nasty. Here." I handed him my deck and lit my cigarette in the embers of the fire. The smoke relieved me of all tension as I inhaled.

Kaiba's cobalt eyes went wide as he came across my Blue Eyes White Dragon. "This must be a copy." He spoke.

"It isn't."

"Then I hereby challenge you to a duel!" He said, raising his voice.

Excellent. Just what I wanted. He couldn't resist the temptation of the powerful cards in my deck. Perhaps it was just the fact that I was an owner of the Blue Eyes White Dragon. He was blinded by his own greed to the degree where he didn't care anymore. I was smarter than that.

"I will duel you, Kaiba. But let me finish my cigarette first."
