===============================
The rest of us went upstairs to view the duel from a bird's-eye view. Pegasus began the duel by playing a monster on the field in defense mode and another card face down.
"I believe it's your go, Kaiba-boy."
Kaiba drew, and looked slightly pleased at what he saw in his hand. He placed a card face down, then summoned Rude Kaiser in attack mode, and triumphantly destroyed Pegasus' defense monster.
Pegasus seemed to be stunned to say the least. He summoned his Parrot Dragon monster to the field in attack mode and attacked the Rude Kaiser, until…
"I activate my face down card, Mesmeric Control!" Pegasus' Parrot Dragon's attack points were reduced to 800 points. Pegasus smiled somewhat. I felt like smacking him upside the head for that haughty little smirk that never seemed to leave his face. Kaiba destroyed his dragon with his Rude Kaiser.
"Hey Leiko… do you think Kaiba has much of a chance against Pegasus in this duel? I mean, Pegasus has got those toon monsters that you have in your deck too!" Yugi spoke up to me.
"To be honest, I think Kaiba's willpower to save Mokuba blinded him from the fact that he is actually dueling the creator of duel monster cards. He might be the world champion, but frankly, I don't think he stands a chance without any toon monster cards in his deck." I replied.
"That means that his soul is going to be trapped inside one of those soul cards! Just like Mokuba and my Grandpa!" Yugi cried.
"Then I guess it's up to me to save him." I said glumly, knowing that I was, more than likely, Kaiba's side dish in the Duelist Kingdom tournament.
Pegasus seemed to love taunting his opponents, judging by the things he was saying to Kaiba to try and intimidate him. He started ranting on about his `Millennium Eye', which I knew little about, and `Funny Bunny', whoever that might be. I knew his left eye was replaced with a gold eye, but I wasn't exactly sure what it did. Yugi had told me that it gave Pegasus the ability to read people's minds, so he knew exactly what his opponent was thinking and what cards they were about to play. I knew he used its magic tricks to suck me inside the television when I dueled him back at home.
"I don't believe that," the Barbie spoke up. "How can a fake eye tell someone what other people are really thinking?" I guessed she was about as skeptical as I was.
"How can anyone win against that kind of power, Yugi?" Jounouchi asked.
"With great difficulty. But don't leave Kaiba out just yet - he isn't renowned for World Champion for nothing." Motou answered. I stood quietly by myself, leaning against the railing. I was trying to fathom out the duel if Pegasus drew his Toon World card before Kaiba played his Blue Eyes.
I could see the look on Kaiba's face. Now he was really starting to panic. He didn't panic while he was dueling with me. He looked just as skeptical as the rest of us did. Pegasus smirked over the field at him complacently. This duel was getting pretty ugly.
"Did you like reading manga or comic books when you were a child, Kaiba-boy?" Pegasus asked.
Kaiba snarled at his sadistic opponent. "Just make your move."
"Funny Bunny is my favourite cartoon, Kaiba. He gives me great pleasure out of reading the manga." Pegasus laughed and made his move. To my horror, he placed Toon World on the field.
Kaiba looked as if he had a glitch in his throat and looked up at me, remembering when I played my Toon World card. "You can do it Kaiba." I said quietly. He looked back at his hand and placed Battle Ox in defense mode on the field and ended his turn.
Pegasus looked up at me. "Does this card look familiar, Toya? Hmm? It should… it's the all mighty Toon World card!"
I rolled my eyes as everyone else gasped. Of course I recognize it, you idiot. Yugi looked especially worried. Jounouchi and the Barbie girl both snarled at me, knowing that this was the same trick I used on them to defeat them in my duels with them.
The Dark Rabbit which Pegasus had on the field disappeared into the Toon World book and came back out as a toon monster. It attacked Kaiba's Battle Ox and destroyed it, returning back to Toon World after its assault. Pegasus then drew a Blue Eyes Toon Dragon. Kaiba had also drawn his Blue Eyes White Dragon, pleased that he had a monster which could match his opponent's.
There's no use attacking him, Kaiba… I thought. But I had to let Kaiba fight his own battle. He attacked Pegasus' Blue Eyes Toon Dragon with his Blue Eyes White Dragon and looked startled at the result.
"What happened?! My Blue Eyes didn't even put a dent in your toon dragon!" Kaiba screamed.
Pegasus laughed again. "The cuddliest creatures never get hit, Kaiba-boy. My Toon World protects all of my toon monsters!"
Yugi turned to me. "Is that true, Leiko?!" He cried.
I nodded. "Yes. Toon monsters are unstoppable unless they are much weaker than your monster, and there aren't many weak Toon Monsters. You can, however, weaken a Toon Monster with magic cards."
"You must be a pretty hard duelist to beat, Leiko." Yugi said cheerfully. I looked down and eyed him sharply. I crossed my arms across my chest and looked back to the duel. Kaiba was doomed for sure now. I had little hope for him at this point.
Pegasus played the Shine Palace card, which pumped up the Toon Dragon's muscles and made them near to the point of exploding. He was 500 points stronger. Pegasus ordered him to attack Kaiba's Blue Eyes but Kaiba countered the attack with the Negate Attack trap card. Things were starting to look up for Kaiba - he played the Shadow Spell magic card and stopped the Toon Dragon from attacking again and lowered its hit points to 700. He attacked it with his Blue Eyes and obliterated it.
The duel finished by Pegasus playing his Dragon Capture Jar and his Dragon Piper to take control of Kaiba's Blue Eyes White Dragon. Pegasus ended the duel by playing the Devil Box monster card. Kaiba lost.
"Say goodbye Kaiba…" Pegasus laughed manically as his soul drifted into the Soul Card between his two fingers.
"NO! KAIBA COME BACK! PEGASUS, YOU SELFISH BASTARD!!" I screamed. Pegasus was not going to get away with this. I looked towards Kaiba's lifeless body. It was nothing but a soulless shell now. Some goons led him away. I will resurrect you Kaiba… there is hope yet.
The next day, the first official duel was up. The chosen duelists were Yugi and Mai. Yugi sure was an elite duelist. He creamed Mai like there was no tomorrow. She made her way out of the castle soon after, saying that Yugi had better watch out next time they met in the arena. Next up was me and Jounouchi. I had already bet this kid before - a piece of pie. How he made it to the finals was beyond me. I vaguely heard Yugi telling Jounouchi to be more careful this time, and that the only monster strong enough he had to try and defeat me was his Red Eyes Black Dragon.
I snorted a laugh to myself and shook my head, smiling. The blonde kid waved a fist at me from the other end of the arena and shouted pathetic insults at me. Honestly, does this kid never give up? The duel ended about as quickly as it began. Sure, Jounouchi did play his Red Eyes, but it was no match for my Blue Eyes. Pegasus looked a little disappointed that I didn't even have to play my Toon World or any of my Toon Monsters to beat this guy. The last duel I had with him was more of a challenge when I did use my Toon World against him. He was such a joke it wasn't funny anymore.
Pegasus gladly handed me the cheque for the prize money of three million. I smugly accepted and put the cheque in my back pocket. The final duel was against me and Yugi. I had to admit, for the first time in my life I was getting nervous before a duel. I know, it's pathetic - but the little runt sure knows how to duel. One thing I was afraid of, is that he had quite a few of the same cards as I did, such as the Dark Magician Girl, the Mystical Elf, Swords of Revealing Light and so forth.
I was humiliated to say the least when Yugi won. Only with the help of his inner spirit, though. I thought of it as a way of cheating - two minds were helping each other out to duel. Most other duelists dueled on their own. All his friends cheered him on of course - I had no-one. I tidied up my deck and went back to my room to get a cigarette to calm myself down. It had been six hours since I had had one, because we weren't permitted to leave the room - even on breaks. I was shaking like a leaf from frustration and anger - so bad that I could hardly roll up my cigarette.
It was dark and windy outside when I reached the deck to light up. I sat on the corner of the stone wall and gazed out to sea. Yugi had better win tomorrow. I don't think he realizes how much is at stake. Firstly there's his grandpa, but he has to consider the Kaiba brothers too. I thought. If he doesn't beat Pegasus, then that bastard won't have any intention on freeing the souls which he has in his keep.
Yugi came up to the deck and sat beside me. "Smoking stunts your growth." He said, half cheerfully, half nervously.
"Like you're one to talk." I shot back at him.
He smiled and put a hand on my arm which was covered with goosebumps. "You're a great duelist, Leiko."
"Thanks Yugi. Listen," I said, turning to face him. "Do you realize how much is in jeopardy when your duel Pegasus tomorrow?" I asked.
"Well yes… I have to get my grandpa back and - "
"Yugi, promise me something." I said, staring icily at him.
"Uh… sure Leiko…"
"When you win tomorrow, you must first tell Pegasus that if you win, you he has to release the soul of your grandfather and the souls of the Kaiba brothers. It's up to you now, not me, and I vowed that I would help Kaiba to get his brother back. Now I have to get him back too. I won't go back on my word, Yugi."
"I was going to do that anyway, Leiko…" Yugi said, reassuringly.
"Good. You have three souls counting on you tomorrow Yugi. Don't let them down, and don't let me down." I flicked away my cigarette butt and went back inside the castle.
Now that it was dark, I figured it would be a good time to snoop around the castle and look for the hiding places of the three soulless bodies. I armed myself up - my two guns which were inside two pouches attached to my thighs, daggers, small steel bat, flashlight, rope and of course, my Zippo. The first place that came into mind for keeping hostages was, obviously (since I was currently in a castle) a dungeon.
The stairs to the basement wasn't at all hard to find. I had been on a tour of a castle in Germany while I was vacating there with my parents three years ago, in the little time which they weren't away in Africa or some other third world country helping the needy as paramedics. In this case, Pegasus' castle had similar layout to the one I had toured around, so the cellar wasn't hard to find. I crept silently through the darkness of the corridors of the basement. I heard a rustle of paper and someone whistling quietly around the corner.
I backed up against the wall and spied around the corner, gripping the gun inside my leg-pouch. There was a man sitting on a chair in a black suit, reading a newspaper and whistling to himself. Behind him looked like a cell; black steel bars on the outside surrounding it. I recognized the thug as Kimo - one of Kaiba's former employees who turned over to Big 5. He was obviously guarding the Kaiba brothers' soulless bodies. I went in for the kill.
He jerked up from his seat and pulled a gun from his coat pocket and threw down his newspaper. "Hold it right there! This is a restricted area so I suggest you leave now!" He threatened.
He's got a gun too. The only hope of getting that gun out of his hand is with my dagger… I dropped my gun to the ground and discreetly reached for my dagger which was concealed in the back of my shorts. I advanced on him slowly.
"The only one leaving, will be leaving this world. And I'm afraid that's you, tough guy." I was not afraid of killing this man if I had to.
"Oh yeah, you wanna prove that, sweet thing?" He cocked his gun. I tightened my grip around my dagger.
"If my calculations are correct, which they are, you will be on the ground all within eight seconds. Starting from… now." I threw my dagger at his hand at the speed of lightening and slashed his hand open. He dropped the gun and screamed in agony as the blood gushed out of his hand at a rapid pace. I ran to him and kicked his gun away as far as I could, grabbing my own gun on the way. I took my steel bat out of my belt and whacked him a good one over the head, rendering him unconscious. It was exactly eight seconds later that he was on the ground.
I jumped on his back and grabbed his wrists, which were about the thickness of my own thighs, and bound them with my rope. I slashed my rope in half and bound his ankles too. That ought to hold him for a while. Grabbing my flashlight, I looked inside the cell. Kaiba was sitting in the corner leaning against the wall. It was true - his soul was not present in his body. He didn't even bother to look up at me. I shot the lock on the cell with my gun and went inside.
"Kaiba?" I leant down to him. His skin was like ice as stared into space. His arms were limp. It was as if he were nothing but a puppet. I brushed his brunet bangs out of his eyes and shined my torch into his blue orbs. His pupils were absent, too. His pulse was normal and his breathing was even, thankfully.
I heard a groan behind me. The thug must have woken. I left Kaiba's side and went out of the cell to where Kimo was lying face down on the ground. I put a foot on the back of his neck and shined my torch down at him.
"Where am I?" He spluttered.
"Tell me where the younger Kaiba sibling is, punk."
"And what if I don't?"
"If you don't, I will kill you. Now I can do this quick and painless," I said as I cocked my gun. "Or I can cut your throat with my dagger, which I would get great pleasure out of. Your choice."
"You have issues, little girl."
I unsheathed my dagger. "Like I said, you can have a bullet in your head or a blade to your throat, what will it be?" I said, pushing down harder on his neck with my foot.
He gurgled deep in his throat and managed to choke out from under my power, "You'll find the brat in the top of the north tower."
I kicked him over onto his back and booted him in the spine. "That's for calling Mokuba a brat." I turned to Kaiba's cell. "I'll be back, Kaiba."
Sprinting down the corridor and up the stairs again, I continued my way through the castle until I came to the north tower. I found the little raven-haired boy lying on his side, just as lifeless as his elder brother. Suddenly, an extremely strong grip took hold of my waist, nearly crushing my body together, suffocating me.
"Why don't you give daddy some sugar, dollface?" Another one of Pegasus' goons.
"Get your filthy hands off of me you jerk!" I cried, writhing in his grasp.
"Not before I get what I want, sweetheart." He undid his zipper and took hold of my wrists in one of his hands while he tried to undo my shorts with his other hand.
"Stop it you repulsive creep!" This guy was about twice the size as the one I had knocked unconscious in the dungeons. There was no way I could take this guy on myself - I was about to get raped. My last option was to scream my head off. He couldn't hold my wrists and legs and cover my mouth all at the same time.
By this time he had managed to rid me of my shorts, which were now around my ankles. He snorted and grunted as he pulled out his hardened arousal. I shrieked even louder and writhed even harder.
"Let go of her, you perverted swine." A vaguely familiar voice came from behind the thug who was trying to rape me.
He turned his head to see who it was. It was Yugi's alter-ego - Yami. What was this little runt thinking?! He was at least three times smaller than the brute that was all over me!
"Yami are you crazy?! Get out of here! This creep could wipe you out in one hit!" I screamed.
"If you want to pick on someone - or in your case, rape, someone - do it to me. Innocent young women should not have to put up with this appalling behaviour." Yami reasoned.
"And what are you going to do about it, kid?"
"Firstly, I'm going to send you to a place where only nightmares are made of, and second, I'm going to let Toya get her pants back on so we can all get a peaceful night's sleep. All except you, that is." He put up his hand and suddenly the thug fell to the ground and disintegrated right before my eyes! I was left standing shamefully embarrassed with my shorts around my ankles. I pulled them up quickly.
"Y-Yami… what did you do to him? I mean… thanks…uh…" I tried to keep my cool, but it was difficult as Yami was the only boy who had ever seen me in less than my shorts before.
"It's alright Leiko. You were in trouble and I helped you by using my Mind Crush ability. That thug that tried to rape you is in his rightful place now." Yami said in a wise and mature voice.
"How did you get here so quickly?" I noticed my wrists were bruised, and the one that I had sprained a couple of days ago was now even sorer. The insides of my thighs were hurting from where he tried to force my legs open to allow entrance.
"I sensed trouble. Besides, anyone could hear your screaming from a mile away." Jounouchi and the others came running up behind Yami.
"Hey! Are you okay? We heard you screaming!" The white haired kid - Bakura - asked me.
I nodded. "I'm fine, thanks to Yami."
"What happened here?" Jounouchi asked.
"It doesn't matter Jou. What matters now is that Leiko is alright." Yami said. He turned to me. "You should get some rest."
"Yes. Thanks Yami. I would have been dead if it weren't for you." I patted his shoulder and went back down to my bedroom. I was shaken up and sore from the assault. I climbed into bed and drifted off into a light sleep, my only thoughts about the final duel tomorrow between Yugi Motou and Pegasus J. Crawford.
