Chibi: Wow. My first Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfic.

I looked over at the form of my best friend who was currently passed out on my couch. The covers rose with each breath he took. I didn't blame him in the slightest either. Contemplating this afternoon's raids, I'm surprised to find myself up and able to read. My eyes itched with tiredness, and my hands shook. Ok, maybe it wasn't all from being tired. Some could be from the fact I have to be so damn alert at all hours during the day, or maybe I'm exhausted from the three different raids today. I don't know.

Jounouchi mumbled something in his sleep and turned to face the other side of the couch. The blanket he had slipped off his back and drifted to the floor. With meaningful effort, I tucked it around him. His blonde hair fell over into his face while his left foot unconsciously tried to tug off his right shoe.

I shook my head and looked up in time to see one of my other friends, Ryou Bakura come down the stairs, his shirt looking as wrinkled as mine. At least the blood had been cleaned up. I swear, when we got home Ryou's face was covered in blood, as well as his shirt and pants but the red in his hair made him look like one of those Demons from Hell.

"Is he out already?" he asked referring to Jou. I nodded. "Where's Anzu?"

Looking over my shoulder and pricking my ears for any hint of noise I jabbed my thumb at the shower. Ryou nodded knowingly and took a seat across from me. With silvery-white hair, chocolate colored eyes, and a girlish frame, Ryou looks quite effeminate and is often mistaken for a girl on the streets. Even with some of the muscle he's developed in the past few months haven't helped him much in that department.

I yawned and picked up the book I was reading. Very interesting actually. It's one of Ryou's personal favorites; I believe it's called Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. It's not bad to tell the truth.

The bathroom door opened, and surrounded in a cloud of steam was another of my best friends (and fellow Slayer) Anzu. Her brown hair was being towel dried while the small beads of water that clung to her neck and exposed back evaporated into the air. Her shirt read: 'Stupid Should Hurt' in big bold letters while her mini skirt was a plain brown. Out of four friends, Anzu was the only girl and the most mature. Jou and I were goofballs at times and Ryou went right along with us, with a decent sense of humor.

"How ya feeling Yugi?" she asked, pulling the towel out of her face. I blinked and smiled.

"I'm fine Anzu. That last one just gave me a bit of a scare." I was of course referring to the raid we just got back from. Anzu's normal pale face was-if possible-paler. I didn't blame her either. We almost met Death head on down there. Another attack like that and we're all finished.

Jou murmured again in his sleep and swatted at an invisible fly. I could see muscles twitching in his legs as he relived the latest battle. I'll never get the smell of a slum out of my nose.

When I looked over at Ryou, he had fallen asleep with his head resting on his chest. I knew I should do the same but I didn't want to go to bed just yet. There were things to do after all. Me, overwork? Never.

In truth I'm not the hardest worker of our group. Jou and Ryou are. Neither of them is ever unorganized nor loses anything, it's amazing really. To think, a tough guy like Jounouchi being more organized than mousy, quiet me. Most people would laugh and scoff if they didn't know either of us.

Without realizing it, my thoughts became jumbled as I drifted into the heavenly bliss commonly known as sleep.

I scowled and stalked over to the tree trunk that lay broken on the ground. My friend and fellow comrade sat there in all his glory. His cape fluttered about him in the slight breeze that corresponded with the bleak night air. Piercing blue eyes and an unnerving glare greeted me as I stopped before him.

"You let them get away." His subtle voice did everything but hide the scorn. His left leg crossed over his right one as he studied me through the chocolate brown hair hanging in his face. Is it my fault the brats tricked us?

"You win some, you lose some Hun." A voice said from our far right. A tall blonde woman walked out from underneath a tall sapling.

"If it isn't Mai, the one who runs from every battle when things get bloody." Bakura jumped down from the tree branch he was crouched on to right in front of Seto Kaiba. His spiky white-silver hair took a while to settle before he stood.

Mai fumed.

"I did not run away Bakura! I-that is I-didn't want to…see you murder those poor innocent children."

Kaiba snorted. "'Poor'? 'Innocent'? C'mon Mai, give us a break. We're not stupid. That one with the spiked hair took a chunk right outta your arm."

Slowly, Mai looked down. Indeed, there was a hole in her arm where some flesh was missing. She gritted her teeth, not in pain but at the mocking tone in Kaiba's voice. I mentally smirked. Mai being the only girl in our group and the least aggressive needed to be provoked into fighting.

"Silence!" Bakura hissed. His dark eyes flashed dangerously at the bickering pair. "If we're not quiet, the other Raiders will hear us!" I nodded in agreement. The two looked away and Mai sat down on a tree stump.

"What are we to do now?"

I looked over at Bakura who was again crouched in a tree. Sometimes I question his mentality. Sure, he was psycho, but I think he believes he's a monkey or some other mammal not human.

"We wait. When things are quieted down once more we will strike. And our targets are those munchkins that we fought today." I blinked. Something glinted off Bakura's neck. It was a gold ring with an eye on it. He followed my gaze and smirked.

"I picked it up from one of those kids. You know, the albino one with the knife."

I suppressed laughter. Bakura? Talking about being albino? Why, he's the palest person I know and he calls someone else albino? I'm going to have another talk with him…

"Oh Yami," Mai said pulling something out of the bag she always carried around. "That short boy dropped this," she held it out. It was a pyramid with the same upside down eye as the ring Bakura had. It looked solid gold. I wonder what price I could get for it…?

I shrugged and put it over my neck. It fit perfectly, like it was made for me or something. Shaking my head I motioned to the others.

"Let's go home."

Sun filtered through the blinds and hit my face full force. I jolted awake, ready for anything, but relaxed when I saw I was in my room. Posters of my favorite bands and shows hung on my wall, covering every inch of the room. On the ceiling hung a small fan mixed with some surrounding stars. Sighing, I laid back down and put my arms behind my head. I had dreamt something. What was it?

Ah, now I remember. It was about our battle, only…well different. The forest we had fought in was the same, but instead of eight people total there were only two, me and one other. I couldn't see his face; he kept back into the shadows. Then suddenly, there was this blinding flash of light and he was drawn into an area where I could see him. He looked remarkably like me. The same magenta, black, and blonde colored hair, even the same clothes! The only differences were; he was taller and had sharp shaped eyes colored blood red. I remember him reaching out to me, calling, and then I woke up.

I was startled out of my daydream by a clatter from downstairs. Hurriedly I jumped out of bed and sprinted down the steps only to find…

…Jounouchi cooking again.

Sighing heavily with relief I walked over and plopped myself down in the wooden straight back chair in the kitchen. Ryou walked in not long after.

"Hello Yugi," he greeted me. "When's breakfast Jou?"

I giggled; Ryou was never patient nor polite when it came to any kind of food. Jounouchi glared before setting the pan on the stove and turning on the fire. The flame sparked to life and then died down as Jou adjusted the settings.

Anzu walked out at that moment. Her brown hair shone in the first rays of the sun. Her choice of garments this morning were a long black tee shirt that was tucked in around the front and a pair of tight jean shorts. There was nothing to cover her feet. Bleary-eyed, she sat at the table and awaited breakfast.

When breakfast was over I headed upstairs to my room. On my little desk sat my laptop. I used it to get all the low-down on the newest beasties. Usually I went to one single website to find the news and see what's been happening, then we go and kill 'em. Homicidal? Us…you got the wrong Raiders.

The screen flashed as I clicked the link and scrolled down for any articles. None caught my eye. I almost shut the computer down, when a blinking light drew me closer. Curiosity got the better of me and I sat down. It was an article…pretty recent. I think it might be this mornings…

It was.

'The most recent attacks happened at 6:30 A.M. this morning. Right in Domino Park. Four teenagers killed, several others wounded. Police reports show nothing unusual at this point. If anyone has any information regarding these attacks please call the police hotline at 1-800-rescue...'

Well, that was anticlimactic. It's always the same…call this number for this, call that number for that. I wonder if I should keep calling to tie up lines. Maybe then they'll learn to always have a separate way of receiving information. Well, that was quite random.

I reach over to dial the phone when I felt something breathing down my neck.

-_*-_*-_*-

Ha! Another successful attack. I believe the death toll was only four, but nonetheless not bad. Not my best work of course. I think the dream got to me. But it's strange…I don't dream. How is it that this one particular dream was keeping me from doing the hundred percent work I know I can do? I run my hand through the tri-colored hair of mine and silently take a look at Seto's position.

He had the police on the run. Hm, maybe the rumor of the policemen eating donuts is not true. I must look into that.

Bakura…where did he scamper off to? Ah yes I see. Wow, that fat kid can run fast. I guess when provoked the right way even the laziest and biggest of all people can run. This is quite entertaining.

Mai, Mai, Mai. Where…oh. Oh, my. I jump down from the top of the jungle gym. Mai sat on the swings looking pretty downcast. She jumped when I laid my hand on her arm.

"Are you okay?" Her violet eyes pierced my flesh. I felt like she was staring right through me, into my deep black soul.

"Yami, why? Why must we kill all these people?" I looked at her. She was serious. Last time I checked she loved killing people. Was something wrong?

"Mai, is there something wrong?"

Her eyes grew watery. She shut them and shook her head. "Yami! Don't you ever feel any guilt or pain about killing these people? What did they ever do to you? What did they do to deserve this? I-I can't go on living off of killing people! I just can't!"

Something struck my heart. It felt…foreign. Was this an emotion? Was I feeling sorry for her? No, no it's nothing. I took my hand from her shoulder like it was a snake.

"Mai," she looked up as I continued, "no one will blame you if you go back. You can, forget this life. Go on home."

She smiled and threw her arms around my neck. "Thank you!" she whispered. That's the last I saw of her.

Bakura and Seto walked over. "Yami, were you feeling sorry for her?"

I smirked and turned to my two partners in crime.

"Of course not. Demons don't have feelings."
