Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Chat Room ❯ Chat Five ( Chapter 5 )

Hikaru felt his heart nearly burst out of his mouth when he heard the tri-haired vampire state his proposition. Gambling on Anzu's fate? His answer should be clear enough. Why would he ever do it? It was Anzu they were talking about, dammit. How could...?

The silver-haired vampire took a step forward and unsheathed his blade, the blade glinting in the moonlight as he threw the scabbard aside.

"Fine..." he muttered, already regretting the words.

Atemu's smile reached his ears. "Good." With that aside, they both charged.

Hikaru raised his blade over his head. They were closer now. Atemu was a mere five feet away, if even that. All he had to do was make a clean swipe across, and he could easily win. But, as the silver-haired vampire had learned over the years, things were never that simple with Atemu. So he didn't even bother to attack with his sword. The tri-haired vampire hadn't even removed his own weapon yet, anyways. Clearly he wanted this duel to begin as a fistfight.

Hikaru grinned and, as soon as the other was in striking range, landed a punch on his jaw. This sent the other vampire off his feet, making him skid against the roof a few times before stopping near the edge.

Atemu spat and then massaged his jaw. “Nice punch,” he commented with a characteristic smirk.

“Shut up.”

Crimson eyes narrowed and Atemu stood back up. “My turn,” he whispered.

Before Hikaru could even blink, Atemu was behind him with his hands tightly enclosing the other's neck. The silver-haired vampire froze. Atemu was stronger than him, despite being smaller. But he was also lighter in weight. Moving forward, Hikaru grabbed the tri-haired vampire from behind and tossed him over his left shoulder. Then he laughed. “Strangling? Atemu, I didn't think you'd sink that low.”

Atemu shrugged. “It did work for a moment.”

This was going to be a conversational fight, it seemed. Just the way Atemu worked. Trying to kill someone, yet at the same time acting as their friend. It was sickly manipulative and also very distracting.

The fight progressed, neither vampire taking on any lead. They were both equally skilled when it came to fighting.

Hikaru massaged his neck as Atemu stood up; moving his jaw around to make sure the silver-haired vampire didn't dent or break anything. Seeing as he didn't, Atemu smiled.

"Though, I didn't think that strangling your enemy would be on option for you, Atemu," Hikaru said slowly. "You should know that we vampires don't use our windpipes, considering that we're already dead." he shook his head. "I thought you were smarter than that."

Atemu smirked slightly. "I already told you, Hikaru. It worked. And I already knew that fact. I just had another thing planned for you..."

'What...?' Hikaru asked in his mind.

Moving his hand to his neck, he gasped when finding two holes on the collar of his turtleneck sweater. Bringing his hand to his face, he looked at his fingertips to find blood. While wondering what Atemu could have possibly done, his vision began to blur slightly and he staggered to stand up straight. His legs shook lightly, and Hikaru had to lean forward so as to not fall backwards.

Looking up at Atemu, Hikaru growled. "You... What the hell did you do to me?!"

Atemu laughed and held up his left hand; the nails at the end jaggedly long and dripping with some sort of strange liquid. Even with his weakening vision, Hikaru could see the small trickle of blood flow down the other vampire's hand, mixed with the rain falling from the sky above.

"...V-venom...?" Hikaru questioned, realizing now what was in his system.

Atemu chuckled softly, dropping his hand to his side. "Yes. But I only injected a small amount from the sacs underneath my nails. Now, normally, any mortal would've died from even a small amount, since my venom is very potent and quick to act. But a vampire of your age and caliber is only slightly paralyzed by such a tiny dose."

"How did...How did you get venom in your nails?" Hikaru asked, feeling his knees begin to buckle underneath the weight of his body. His vision swam in and out of focus, and the rain did nothing to help him see. Right now, he couldn't even tell where his opponent was standing.

Atemu spoke, his voice seeming to come from every direction imaginable. "Power is everything, Hikaru,” he explained. “During the years I spent to strengthen myself, I acquired this as an extra. Now I can inject venom into whomever I want, whenever I please." He laughed softly to himself. “And I have complete control over it, which is a good thing...after all, I wouldn't want that delicious looking brunette to die because I accidentally put poison in her blood while I'm pleasuring her, no?" he added with a cruel smirk.

"You sick son of a bitch!!" Hikaru roared, forgetting the venom that was in his blood and running towards the direction he heard the other last. He raised his weapon and struck with all his might.

This time, Atemu drew his blade and connected with Hikaru's sword; this put the two vampires in a tight lock with their swords while one pushed the other.

Atemu looked out of the corner of his eye to find he was nearly being pushed over the edge of the roof. One of his feet already hung off the side. He smirked slightly.

'Hikaru's noslouch himself... I should've expected him to be powerful...' Then the tri-haired vampire glared fiercely at Hikaru's indigo black eyes. 'But...'

Suddenly, Atemu head-butted Hikaru; causing the silver-haired vampire to fall back a bit and break their sword-lock. The crimson-eyed vampire raised his sword and swung down. Expertly, Hikaru back flipped to avoid being on the receiving end of Atemu's attack. But Atemu wasn't done yet as he ran to the other vampire and side swung his katana at Hikaru's chest, leaving a gash there and making him fall back on the slippery wet roof.

'Dammit! The venom's wreakinghavoc on my senses and reflexes!' Hikaru's thoughts came to an abrupt halt when he caught sight of Atemu's sword, which was poised and ready to plunge into his heart. Rolling away, Hikaru took this opportunity to swing his leg and kick his opponent's feet out from under him. This caused the other to land on the roof next to him.

Hikaru stood up and prepared his next assault. Unluckily, Atemu recovered from being knocked to the floor instantly and was up as well. Both vampires swung their swords and connected, but, after years of training under the sword together, they didn't end there as they started to swing their blades at each other in unnatural speeds.

To any bystander witnessing the event, it would appear that two men were fighting each other with air, since the rapiers were moving too fast to even see with a normal human eye.

While the two vampires glared fiercely at each other, swinging their swords, they didn't notice the wounds they had each given the other. Hikaru landed a hit on Atemu's left cheek while Atemu had sliced Hikaru on his shoulder. Still nothing stopped their ruthless assaults.

The world around them had slowed; even the rain that fell on them seemed to fall in a sluggish manner. It wasn't until Atemu and Hikaru had connected their weapons again that the rain fell on them like buckets after being held back.

The blades began to heat slightly as the friction that was put in between them by Atemu and Hikaru. They began to sizzle, steaming as the rain pelted against their metallic coating.

It soon ended in long moments before Atemu smirked and knocked Hikaru's blade away, sending it skidding to the other side of the roof. The silver-haired vampire's eyes widened as he saw Atemu draw his blade back and plunge it through the middle of his stomach.

Blood fell from Hikaru's wound, leaking onto Atemu's blade, and splattering when Hikaru coughed it out.

"Foolish Hikaru."

Atemu grinned in a sickly-sweet fashion and twisted the blade around in the silver-haired vampire; eliciting a squishy sound of intestines being churned around violently. "I offered you a seat of power, and this is how you repay me?"

Hikaru groaned, gnashing his teeth together to keep from shouting out in pain. He couldn't give the other the satisfaction of knowing how much this was hurting him. But Atemu pushed the blade in further, he let out a ragged gasp. He looked up and glared at the tri-haired vampire's face, which was blurred by the intense rain and the poison in his body.

"I never w-wanted power..." Hikaru ground out. "I never wanted to rule. You know me...What would I do with power? I would n-never use power, unless it was for good. Besides," he smirked mockingly at Atemu. "It would be so tedious to be your confidant."

As an enraged response, Atemu twisted the sword and at the same time, grabbed Hikaru's shoulder and pulled him along the blade, leaking out more blood from the wound.

"What do you see in those humans, anyway? They're weak! They're helpless! They're nothing compared to creatures like us! They should be under our control like domesticated lambs!" Atemu hissed dangerously. Then he regained his composure and smiled an innocently murderous smile. "And that will happen soon once I get that woman in my hands and her blood seeping into my mouth..."

With that, Atemu roughly pulled his sword out, letting Hikaru fall. His blood stained the already wet ground around him as he staggered to sit up. Then Atemu threw Hikaru's sword at him and pointed his own at the other vampire's face.

"Looks like I won,” he whispered. “But before I go there's just something I've been dyingto ask you, my dear friend.” He leaned down; clamping his hands over the other's to keep him from attacking or doing anything else of that sort. “Have you kissed her?”

Hikaru's eyes widened slightly. “What?”

Atemu's eyes gleamed. “The brunette...Anzu...have you ever kissed her? Because,” he chuckled, “I'm just curious to see...does she taste as innocent as she looks?”

The charcoal-eyed vampire made a move to sit up, but Atemu pushed him back down forcefully. “I take it as a no.” He sighed and stood back up; pressing his foot on Hikaru's bleeding stomach to keep him from moving. “I should go. It's getting rather late. And I need to make arrangements to meet Anzu in a few days...I'm sure that will make her very happy. Oh, but remember, my friend: you lost. So that means no interfering.”

Hikaru growled low in his throat. Atemu let out a soft laugh and walked happily to the edge of the roof. Waving goodbye to the silver-haired vampire, he grinned.

“You might want to get that wound looked at by a doctor, Hikaru. It looks awfully painful.”

And with that said, he jumped, disappearing from thin air. Hikaru groaned and laid still, letting his body begin to heal itself. The blood from his scarlet fluid flowed down the sewage pipe of the building, landing in the city streets to make it seem as though the sky had rained blood down upon the earth in torrents.

OOOOOO

When Anzu woke up the next morning, she found that she had received several new e-mails on her newly-repaired computer. Two, she noticed, where from Yami. And that made her very excited. Ignoring the third e-mail, which was addressed to her from Yugi, she clicked on the first of the two from PhantomY69.

Hey Anzu,

I'm really happy you agreed to meet me. I think I let out a little yelp of joyor somethingafter reading your reply, because the woman in the cubicle next to mine poked her head over and asked me if I was all right. So that was a little embarrassing. But anyways, my days off begin tomorrow, so I was thinking we could meet up then. Around, say, noon-ish at Burger World? I'll treat you to lunch. If tomorrow's no good, then you just tell me whenever it is you're available and I'll be sure to make that day a good day for me too.

Hoping to see you soon,

Yami

Anzu giggled. Then she hit the reply button.

Dear Yami,

Tomorrow is a fine day for me, since there is not school. And I think Burger World would be a great place to meet, but I'm afraid I can't let you pay for my lunch. That would be way too rude of me, to make you pay. But still, thank you for being a gentleman and offering. I should probably go now. My friend Yugi will be here shortly to pick me up...we're going to the arcade to celebrate him getting his braces off. Teehee!

See you tomorrow!

~Anzu

PS: I remember you told me you were studying photography in school, so I was wondering if you could maybe bring in some of your work to show me. I would really love to see it!

After clicking the send button, she closed out of her account and moved away from her desk. Then she proceeded to get washed and ready to go.

OOOOO

Hikaru walked out of the steaming bathroom, dressed in only black baggy pants and boots; leaving his muscular chest bare and displaying the bandages around his stomach from the wounds he received from Atemu.

Normally, a mortal weapon wouldn't have fazed him the least bit. But since Atemu's weapon was made specifically to harm a vampire as it would harm a human, it hurt considerably and would leave a scar, even with the regeneration power vampires had.

Hikaru walked to the end of the hall, leaning against the wall for support. He hissed when he felt his stomach churn painfully because of him moving when he shouldn't have been. His indigo black eyes trailed over to the balcony which was, right now, partially hidden by velvet black curtains. Hikaru could still see the light creeping out from under them, though.

The silver-haired vampire made his way over to the couch and plopped himself down, letting the leather material adjust comfortably under his form. His mind went back to what had just happened hours ago.

Hikaru had woken up after twenty minutes or so of rest after Atemu left. His body had hurt like hell and it had been very difficult to stand up, due to the after-effects of the venom that Atemu had injected into him at the start of their fight. But he had found the strength to rise, and had left as soon as he could to get away from the sun that would later on rise above the grey clouds overhead. After treating his wounds he had taken a nice hot shower to try and relax. And there he was now, feeling more stressed, angry, and in pain than he had before.

Hikaru was blaming himself. Mentally kicking himself in the head for letting Atemu win. Thanks to his carelessness during their fight, Atemu was allowed to do whatever he pleased to Anzu. And he couldn't do anything to stop him; for if he did, Atemu would surely have him killed. And in the weak state he was in right now, Hikaru would hardly be able to put up a fight.

The fight...

`I can't believe I actually lost.'

"Damn you, Atemu!" Hikaru roared, his charcoal-colored eyes flashing dangerously. ]

Suddenly, a vase sitting on top of the glass coffee table in front of the couch began to shake violently, and it a matter of seconds it shattered into millions of sharp pieces. That didn't bother him. Instead, he only bared his teeth in a snarl and glared at the broken pieces.

He didn't usually lose his self-control like this , but when it came to Atemu's sick plans to rule, it took every ounce of strength he possessed to not just race outside and take his anger out on the first person he came into contact with.

Hikaru let out an anguished cry, bringing his head back before he let it fall, and gently touching the large wound on his stomach. His other hand had curled around the couch, twisting the fabric, his long nails digging into the cushion.

He had failed.

Hikaru looked up at the ceiling, suddenly feeling very, very tired.

He had failed.

He had failed Anzu...

And just as importantly, he had also failed him...
