Chapter 1: The Basics

Hello, my name is Mistress and I have an interesting tale to recite to you. I sit down next to the blazing fire as you gather around me. I open the large thick red book. You wonder what this tale is called. I will tell you, the title of this story is Common Grounds. You raise your eyebrows at the name and wonder what it is about. Have patience…we shall begin soon enough. I smile as you quiet down and open the book to its first page…

The smoldering heat swept through the school. The white windows had been left open to catch the non existent breeze. You could almost see smoke rising from the black asphalt ground. Some would expect the grass and trees to catch fire at any moment. The three story building known as Domino High School. Inside the graying walls of the prison were classrooms filled with groaning or sleeping students. The mood in each class was sluggish and strained.

The only one who seemed not to mind the blazing heat was a tan skinned, blond haired teen with dark purple eyes. His hair reached the middle of his back and two bangs hung around his face, framing it. Being raised in Egypt had its perks. He wore a tight soft purple vest that stopped right above his abdomen and tight black pants that nicely showed his figure. At his hip he kept long golden chains that attached to the golden bracelet on his right wrist. Smirking at the suffering peers around him he leaned back in his chair making it creak. His name was Malik Ishtar, one of the three social Outcasts.

A few desks over the second Outcast was sitting with his pale right cheek rested on the slightly cool desk and mouth open and panting. His sweaty long and slightly girly, white locks lay sprawled over the desk in an unusually messy manner. His brown eyes were glazed over and half closed. He had it worse than most of the students at Kawai High, he had been raised in London, England and had grown living with the cold. Even though it was such a hot day he wore a long sleeved white, button up shirt and blue jeans. His only accessories were a silver cross choker and a silver cross earring on his right ear. His name was Ryou Bakura.

Behind him sat the last of the outcasts. Unlike his two friends he had lived in Domino all his life. Even so he suffered under the heat. He pushed on his desk with his feet so that the groaning chair was standing on its two back legs. His hair was crazy as hell and it was a miracle that the teachers hadn't made him dye his hair all black. His hair was outlined in s dark pink, the main color in his hair was black with blond bangs and streaks. He blinked as a drop of sweat entered his royal purple eye. He moved uncomfortably in his seat. His usual attire was black leather pants and a black swear shirt. He wore a dog collar around his neck and an assortment of black wristbands. His name was Yugi Motou. None of them ever wore their school uniforms unless they had nothing else to wear.

As everyone in the world does the three boys had their twins somewhere in the world too. It was just their fate that their twins would be at the same school and not only that but at the opposite side of the social ladder.

These three boys would be at school suffering with the rest of their peers if they weren't busy skipping. Far away from the school a huge mansion overlooked the city. The house was the classical white with a foyer that had white marble pillars. The mansion consisted of 6 guest rooms, 3 bedrooms, 2 dinning room, 6 bathrooms, 2 stories, 1 inside pool, 1 sauna, 1 outside pool, 1 kitchen, 2 offices, 2 recreation areas, 2 living rooms, 1 game room, 1 gym set apart from the building, 3 studies, and one library. The three boys in question were currently relaxing outside in the large pool.

The pool had super clear water that was kept at a steady 60 degrees temperature by the pool heating system. At the south end of the pool, the one facing the white fencing that surrounded the entire ground was a small rock made waterfall. On the north end was a diving board and the pool reached a depth of 15 feet there. On the west side were steps that led into the pool, a railing in the middle of it. Surrounding the pool was a garden filled with fresh roses and tulips. Lounging on the steps was the young master of the mansion.

He was Yugi Motou's twin. His hair stuck up in the same manner but was much sharper and he had more blond in his hair. His eyes were crimson and held a sharp gleam to them. His name was Yami Moto. Floating in a blue see through ring in the middle of the pool was Ryou Bakura's twin. He had the same long white hair except that his stuck out at the front and top in sharp bangs. His brown eyes held malice in them. His name was Bakura Ryou. Both of them had lived in Domino all their lives. Their last friend, who was currently diving off the diving board, was Malik Ishtar's twin. His skin was the same tan as Malik's but a shaded darker. His eyes were a dark purple that held a 24/7 sneaky gleam in them. His hair although blond stood up in crazy spikes all over his head. His name was Marik Ishtal.

Although all three boys were failing they still skipped class for the hell of it, and to see how many times they could get away with it. Yami Moto's parents, or mother and step father were both business people and worked in an office at their home. They were very supportive of Yami, even when he had told them he was gay. In fact, his parents had told him that they had expected this for some time now. He had always gotten what he wanted and even though he was failing his parents never chastised him, knowing that Yami was smarter than that but lazy as hell.

Bakura Ryou was also one of the richer families in Domino. His mother was a stay at home mom and his father built engines for jets. Lucky for him his parents were also very supportive and kind. They had a similar reaction that Yami's parents had had when he told them he was gay. Bakura's parents weren't worried about his grades either like normal parents. They knew that there was no use in trying to make Bakura study, it wouldn't work. They lived a very balanced and careful life.

Marik Ishtal's family was rich and chaotic. He had an older sister name Isis. His parents were gone for half of the year on digs but always made sure to come back on holidays, birthdays, or emergencies. Unlike with Yami and Bakura it had taken a few weeks for Marik's parents to warm up to the idea that their son was gay. Marik was the laziest out of all three and knew barely anything about computers and such he was the perfect stereotypical jock. More than his friends were.

Now that we know of the popular twins lives we switch back to the suffering teens back at school.

Yugi Motou lived with his Grandfather. Both his parents had died when he was very young. He barely even remembered them. Yugi lived at the top floor of the Kame Game Shop. Everyday after school he would rush home to help his Grandfather with the shop. Half of the year he would work the shop alone or close it because his Grandfather was away on an archeology dig. Yugi's grandfather, Sugoroku, knew about Yugi being gay and did not mind it one bit.

Ryou Bakura lived alone in a one bedroom apartment. His father was in jail for murder and child abuse. Ryou's father had killed his mother during one of their regular fights. Ryou's father had gotten rid of the evidence and Ryou, only 6, had been to scared to tell anyone. That's when the abuse started. He had always had to fend for himself so living by himself was no problem. He worked part time and a punk/goth store called Last Hope and his schooling was paid for by the government (only if he remained top of class) and he still had the money which his mother had left Ryou in her will were she ever to die of unnatural causes. Ryou did not need to worry about his family accepting his being gay for he had no family.

Malik lived in a normal house with his mother. His father was almost never home and when he was it was only for a dew days. Not that Malik minded, he and his father never got along and this had only gotten worse once he had told his parents he was gay. His mother had broken down into tears, cursing the day Malik was born. His father had become enraged and beaten Malik. They never talked anymore and whenever Malik was in a room with either of them the atmosphere became tense and rigid.

Now that we've taken a look at each of their lives we move to their skill and grades, I'm sure you've all been waiting eagerly for this.

All three of the outcasts were ranked among the top of the school. The three populars were ranked among the middle class when it comes to grades. Yami was captain of all the sports clubs, which included: soccer, basketball, football, and track. Bakura and Marik were all second in command in every sports clubs at Domino High. Ryou Bakura participated in Choir and art club. Malik was part of the mechanics club and computer club. Yugi was a member of the Games club and Writers Club.

I close the book and slightly bend the corner of the page to mark our progress. Have you enjoyed it so far? I see you pout at my stopping. My the youth of today is impatient. Sadly for today I close the book only to have it opened tomorrow. Will you join me on another chapter? I watch as you leave the room chatting to your friend who has come to pick you up.

So what did you think? ^__^ yes I am the narrator, I decided to go crazy original with this (I don't think this has been done before…hm…I certainly hope not -><- ) I know there are so many school stories with outcast and popular and they fall in love but I think this is the first time someone's done what I'm gong to do or what I said I would do in the summary. Yes they do end up together. So no worries there.
