Chapter 19: Coming Together

This time when you come we have to meet in my bed room again. I had collapsed yesterday and my doctor ordered me to stay in bed. You ask if it's too much trouble for me to be reading to you but I assure you this is a joy, not a burden. I ask for you to not worry and grudgingly you agree…

Three days later Yumi, Ryou, and Yugi were sitting under the large tree during break. A gust of wind embraced them and there was an unexplainable good aura in the air despite the weather conditions. Ryou was humming happily to himself as Yumi and Yugi watched with shrew expressions. Although unlike Yugi, Yumi had a pretty good hunch about what Ryou was humming about. She had noticed the change in both Bakura and Ryou the day after their tutoring session. Yumi had naughtily wondered how much tutoring they had really gotten done during that time.

“You're happy,” Yugi finally commented tired of the silence interrupted only by the occasional rustle of leaves and Ryou's humming.

“Yep, it's such a great day. Why shouldn't I be happy?” Ryou said with a cute smile.

Yugi blinked slowly and then turned to Yumi question marks appearing over his head. Yugi mouthed, `Such a great day' to Yumi and looked up at the sky. It was pretty cloudy and the weather man had promised rain for the day. Yumi shrugged and turned back to her snack. Just as Yugi was going to ask more Malik came running up with an excited grin on his face.

“Is everyone happy today but me?” Yugi asked miserably.

Today was the day that a new game released and although he lived at a Game Shop he couldn't afford buying it. Being the obsessive gamer that he was he felt like a child who had been cheated out of his candy.

“Aww cheer up,” Malik said as he plopped down next to Yumi.

Yumi popped the spoon from her mouth and sucked the yogurt off of it, letting it rest between her lips. “What's got your grinning?” Yumi asked curiously.

Malik slowly reached his hand into the bag he had been carrying. He moved and sluggishly began to tug the item from the bag. A large grin emerged on his face as she held out two tickets in front of them.

“What would that be?” Yumi asked turning her head slightly to read the text.

Car Show and Race hosted by Nascar, special appearances by Evil Knievel, Carl Fagarty, Mike Halewood, Lary Dixon, and Bill Ivey. New models by Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki…

Yumi let the spoon drop onto the floor as she stared at the tickets.

“Where'd you get those?!” she asked baffled, “my brother couldn't even get any!”

Ryou and Yugi, neither of them very big fans of cars or races turned a deaf ear to them and went to discussing more “academic and life forwarding” things. Malik grinned childishly.

“I've had them reserved! I worked my ass off this entire year, AND half the previous year to get enough money to pay for these,” Malik said as he hugged them to his chest, afraid a sudden gust of wind might send his treasure flying.

“I'm impressed,” Yumi muttered.

“I thought you would be. Anywho, seeing as there are two tickets and only one of me, although I'm sure everyone I meet prays everyday there were more of me,” Malik said waving his hands in wild motions.

“More like that there wouldn't even be one of him,” Yugi whispered to Yumi who couldn't help but smirk.

Malik glared at Yugi and turned back to Yumi, Yugi's comment soon forgotten.

“As I was saying… so I thought since these two… uhm how can I put this nicely? Ah well, as mother always said `When you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all'. Anyway since Ryou and Yugi don't see the fine art of cars I thought, `Hey, I bet Yumi does.' So, I am inviting you to come with me tomorrow, yeah it's short notice but I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get them,” he finished waving the tickets slightly in front of Yumi's face trying to tempt her.

An idea hit her like a lightning bolt. This was the perfect chance to get Marik and Malik together. She fixed her face to where she looked almost miserable and forlorn, “Sorry Malik, but I'll have to turn down your offer. I have so many things to do tomorrow. Family stuff.”

Malik looked down at the tickets sadly fidgeting with the hem of his shirt, “Then who can I go with?”

Yumi pretended to think for a moment placing a finger onto the chin, “Hm….I know, why not take Marik?” she said snapping her fingers together.

Malik glared daggers at Yumi, “That bastard, NO WAY! Over my dead, torn up, bleeding, cut to pieces, burning in hell, body.”

Yumi smirked slightly and looked at him innocently forming a halo on top of her head with her hands, “ But you do OWE him.”

Malik looked as if he was going to argue but it seemed he suddenly remembered the new bike he had been given by Marik. He paused and chewed on his lip.

“Yeah well…it was his fault in the first place,” Malik said sourly abandoning chewing on his lip for pouting..

“You owe him nonetheless. Now be a gentleman and go ask him, shoo shoo,” Yumi said as she grinned at Malik waving her arms to chase him away.

Malik glared at Yumi one more time before sighing, “You're enjoying this aren't you? Torturing me?”

“Of course I am, I would love nothing better,” Yumi said as her eyes spotted the trio near the school entrance. “There's your chance walking out the school gates.”

Malik groaned and began to walk towards the group. Within minutes he had reached them. Yami held a hand to silence his two friends as he saw the young Outcast approach.

“You need something? Does Yumi want something?” Yami asked changing his question.

“Both, I need to talk to Marik,” he said as he began to drag Marik away grabbing the wrist of the confused Marik, “alone,” he added as he saw that Bakura and Yami were trying to follow.

The two walked away to a safe distance where they could not be overheard. Malik sighed and called himself seven kinds of idiot for what he was about to do. He spun around and glared at Yami and Bakura who were trying to inch towards them to eavesdrop.

“What do you want? I paid you back for wrecking your bike didn't I?” Marik asked annoyed crossing his arms.

“Yes yes, I know. I'm not stupid like you,” Malik said absently, “but I have to pay you back somehow, sooooooo.”

Malik pulled out the extra ticket to the show and held it in front of Marik. Marik stared shocked for a few silent moments before carefully touching the ticket.

“How the fuck did you get these?” he asked his eyes wide.

Malik sighed, “I pre-ordered them. So are you going to come or what?”

Malik waited “patiently” for Marik to decide for two minutes before raising his leg and stomping down on his foot.

“You coming or not?” Malik demanded as Marik gave a small squeal which, had the situation been different, would've sent Malik into a fit of laughter.

“Yeah yeah, there was no need to resort to physical violence,” Marik remarked as he handed Malik back the ticket.

“Uh…why are you giving it back to me?” Malik asked.

“For someone with such high grades you sure don't have any common sense. I'm going to pick you up for it and then we can go. I doubt you planned as far ahead as to think of the parking fee,” Marik said acting as if he was talking to a little child.

Malik huffed and took the ticket. Without saying goodbye Malik stomped back over to the table where Yumi was holding her stomach, tears of laughter pouring from her eyes.

“You think this is funny don't you?” Malik asked crossly.

“Yeah, yeah I do. Oh Goddess, I can't breathe,” Yumi said grinning up at Malik mischievously.

With a glare and an angry punch at the table Malik turned around and left the school grounds. So the next day, much to Malik's mixed dislike and joy, he and Marik headed to the car show. The car ride there was relatively short, although Malik would not have been able to comment on it seeing as he had almost fallen asleep behind Marik.

Unlike what he had expected it had seemed that he and Marik had much more in common than Malik had originally thought. The two of them even held a non- violent, non insulting conversation. If they were to be honest each would admit to having fun together. At the end of the night, as Marik was driving Malik back home, Malik noticed he had never been this happy before, or felt that relaxed with anyone else… it made him very nervous. The car pulled up to Malik's house and Marik walked Malik to the door. The day had passed in a pleasant blur and as Malik got off of the bike Marik couldn't help but notice how nicely Malik's tight jeans fit over his hips.

“Thanks for inviting me,” Marik said awkwardly. He had never spent this much time with anyone but Bakura and Yami. And those times were spent either A: Skipping School, B: In detention, C: At practice or D: Running from the police. This was a whole new experience.

“No problem, I owed you anyway,” Malik managed to say out before he heard yells from inside his house. “Uh I think you better go. My parents have rather… “disagreeable” natures.”

Taking the hint Marik left the stairs turning back only to give a short wave good bye. Malik watched from his porch as Marik's bike's lights faded into the distance. With a sigh Malik opened the door and gave a meek hello.

By the time I close my book I am happy to find you have made yourself comfortable. I smile and ask you how you liked today's chapter. You nod and smile, even though they aren't together yet you can feel it in the air. A quiet grin passes between us and you stand. I tell you to return soon for another chapter.

AUTHORS BLAH BLAH

Mistress: Yeah yeah yeah, I know, the usual complain. “IT'S TOO SHORT DAMNIT! GET YOUR LAZY ASS IN GEAR AND WRITE SOMETHING WORTH READING” O_o okay I get it, no need to yell. (goes to cry in corner) Anyway, sorry, I'll try to write longer and update sooner, I'm trying my best but things haven't been going really well for me again, time wise. I'm sorry if I sounded bitchy, I don't mean to, really I'm so sorry. But, usually when I feel better I go back and re-write an entire story, I was doing that for a while with Different Kind of Reunion for Yu Yu Hakusho. Oh and I know some of you may say, “Well what about the show?” well sorry, never been to one, I'd mess it up O_o. See ya soon I hope.
