Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Confessions of the Inner Heart ❯ This is my beginning... ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Welcome to Confessions of the Inner Heart !!! This is something new I've decided to start. It came to me the other day, and I was like `Okay, what the heck, why not?' So here it is.

Here's the layout for this thing. It'll start with a journal entry and then what happened that day will be after it. I dunno if this will be continued. But it's worth a try.

Disclaimer: I don't own YGO or any of the characters created by Kazuki Takahashi.

Dear Journal,

I have no idea why I decided to pull this thing out from my drawers after so long. I guess it's because things around here have gotten too hectic. I guess I need to find some way to rant and besides, this book needs to be put to good use.
Sometimes I wonder what the point is of being alive. I mean, ever since my mother died, my father has never paid attention to me nor will he even care about whether or not I do something good. I strive to gain his attention, but no, he doesn't even care to pay attention to me. It's all about my sister.
She's his life. He pushes on her so hard to be the best. I almost feel sorry for her at times, but then, she always kills that feeling with her snobby attitude towards me, treating me like I'm nothing. Just like Father…
I wish Mother were still with us. To have died so painfully from that heat stroke. That's why Father brought us here. So that my sister couldn't die like my mom. I guess I just got dragged along because of it.
I can hear Sister and Father fighting right now. That's not like her. Usually, she gives into whatever he says. Wonder what they're talking about….not like it matters much. It's not about me, that much I know.
Anyway….what the heck was I talking about? Oh yeah…point of living. Well, now that I think on it, I guess my reasons for living dwell around school and my pals. There's Ryou…he's such a sweetie. Those chocolate brown eyes of his are so adorable, and his hair is beautiful. He's a regular albino. And then there's Yugi. He's really nice, too. Kinda short though. But he's a really sweet kid anyway, always trying to help and be a strong friend, no matter what his size is. I'm surprised that his small body can hold such a big heart.
And then there's him. That beautiful look-alike of mine, Marik Ishtar. We even have the same last name! Odd, huh? Maybe that means we're destined to be together. Ah heck, what am I saying? He's way more popular than me and there's no way he'd give me a second glance. *sigh* I'm sure my sister has more of a chance with him than I do. It's so…depressing, to like someone you can never reach.
What's that noise? It's Dad….with my sister being pulled behind him. I can hear her feet sagging on the carpet. What is he doing to her? I hope she didn't get him too mad. This is one of those times where I really feel sorry for her. There's the slam of the door *BAM* *screams* What is going on?
Well, anyway, I'd better go. This is my first…and probably longest entry to have. Ra, I haven't even said my name (unless you count the last name of my secret beloved). I guess I can just write it now…though that seems idiotic. Whatever…
My name is Malik Ishtar. I'm 16 years old, and this is the beginning of my inner heart.

Malik stepped out of his room and looked around. He could hear screams in his Dad's room, obviously Isis's. He went over and listened in, trying to make out what was going on.

“Get off of me, you old bastard!”

“Shut up, or you'll regret ever speaking against me!” There were slaps and Isis broke down into tears. Malik shuddered and stepped away from the door. He went away and hid back in his room. This is how it was a lot of times, more than he willed to admit to even his new journal, for the moment. Isis fought a lot more than she used to. He thought it was because she felt more powerful, but it was really a mystery to even him. How could she not fear him like he did? He didn't get it.

“Now stay here and think about what you did. I'll be back in a moment to finish up my consequences with you.” That was never a good sign for Malik. Just as every time, his father slammed the door open against the wall. He came over to the bed and jerked Malik up, holding him up by the shirt, “Boy! Boy, if you ever say anything about what you hear, I swear I'll slap you until you turn black and blue. You hear me?!”

“Y-Yes, F-F-Father…” Malik trembled. His father stared into his amethyst eyes then threw him back down on the bed, leaving the room and slamming the door behind him. Malik cowered under the covers, listening to the scream, sobs, and pleas of Isis persist as his father yelled back at her and something unknown to him took place.
