Crossroad Luckless

Last time:As I slowly made my way through the living room humming a faint tune, I noticed a shattered wine glass now sunk into the carpet. "That's weird" I murmur, my curiosity getting the better of me as I peered in head first to the room where the glass laid.

My heart literally stopped as my bright blue eyes locked onto the lifeless body sprawled out on the floor.

"Mu..Mum?"

Chapter 1
Anzu's POV

This wasn't real, it couldn't be. I wouldn't even allow myself to think it. I call my mothers name again, hoping by some miracle she'll respond. But there's no answer.

I stumble over to her body and check for a pulse. No heartbeat, just skin cold as ice.

I can feel my knee's start to loose balance as I fall limply to the floor. That's when the tears came, followed by my nails digging into my cheeks, scratching and burning the delicate flesh.

Its then I notice my mothers fingers tightly clutching an empty bottle of medication. The label read "Take daily, abuse to this may cause serious injury or death. See doctor immediately if consumed more than needed"

I wrap my mother in a hug, like she had done for me whenever I was sick, hurt or just in need of a good pick-me-up. Shaking back and forth, my insides twist and turn while my mind tries to convince me everything will be all right. But I know it won't.

Just like I knew my father would never come home the minuet he left.

I gently lay my mother back to the ground and head for the door. I never was good with final goodbyes. The tears were now pouring out of my eyes like floodgates as my fingers shook, slamming the backdoor shut behind me.

Without thinking, I ran. I ran as fast as I could, out of the house where my mother lay dead, out past the empty streets, and into the woods.

(A/N: Now it's back to regular POV)

Her feet found poor footing in the ebony darkness as she stumbled away from her house, yet she continued. The tangling fingers of bushes and thorns, no more than mere dim blurs in the moonless night, caught at her jacket, dragging her back.

But Anzu pushed on through the forest and into Domino Park.

Her Lungs heaved and her throat burned as she collapsed onto the hard pavement floor. Night still hung heavy overhead, but she could sense the sun was not far off.

Anzu lay on the tattered ground only long enough to let her racing heart slow and to catch her breath, then pushed onwards. The need to escape as fast and as far from the hurt and heartache as possible drove her every step and overshadowed the exhaustion.

Anzu was running so rapidly she didn't even notice bumping straight into someone.

Her head was spinning so quickly she didn't even realize who that 'someone' was.

Her eyes were so blurred with tears she didn't even recognize it was Bakura.

Her lungs were so tired with exhaustion she didn't even mind collapsing within his arms.

TBC

There you go, at least Bakura's introduced in this chapter. As for the shortness of it all, I'm sorry about that. The next will have not only more Bakura/Anzu-ness, but longer pages too. Jou will most likely come back in chapter three, that is, only if you all want him too ;)

Until next time,

Pleasant something people:)
