Chapter 1 - Action/Reaction

"…For every reaction there is an equal and opposite reaction."

- One of Newton's laws of physics…or was it Einstein? (A/N: Anyone who does know, email me!)

"…And so, one of the reasons the Kings of Egypt ceased building large structures like the Pyramids for their tombs was due to the frequent and complete raiding of the tomb goods."

Yugi, Ryou, Malik, and Joey (once again in the same classes) couldn't help it. They started giggling at the back of the class, since they were all thinking the same thing: Bakura! (A/N: Sorry. I had to put it in! yells. Shut up Kali! she's still laughing.)

The professor stopped in his lecture and gave them a cool glare. "And may I ask what you gentlemen are laughing about?"

Ryou coughed a little. "Ah, sorry, sir. What you said about the tombs being robbed just reminded us of someone we know."

"Uh, yeah." Joey chuckled. "You might say he's an expert on that sort of thing."

The prof lit up like a Christmas tree. "An expert? We would love to have an expert come in and talk to the class for a lecture."

Malik kicked Joey under the table. "Way to go, Wheeler." Joey scowled at him and Yugi giggled again.

Poor Ryou, however, looked a little pale. "Ah, sorry, sir, but I don't think…"

"Oh, I really think you should ask this person of yours to come in. What's his name? Perhaps I've heard of him."

Ryou sighed. His prof wasn't going to give in. "His name is Bakura, sir."

The professor frowned. "Hmm. No, I don't believe I've heard of him before. Well, I'll leave the details to you four. See if you can get this Bakura to come in next week for a lecture." Then he clapped his hands sharply after glancing at the clock. "Okay! That's it for this week. Off you go!"

The four boys picked up their stuff and walked out, intending to go to the cafeteria to meet up with the others for lunch.

"What do I do?" Ryou moaned. "I can't ask 'Kura to come in and…give a lecture! About tomb robbing, no less!"

Yugi patted him sympathetically on the shoulder. "We'll think of something, Ryou."

"Lie." Malik shrugged. "Just tell the prof that Bakura is off on a dig or something and can't come to lecture us with his 'expertise.'" Malik snickered gleefully. "Although, it would be damned hilarious if he did."

Yugi and Ryou scowled at him.

Joey shrugged. "There's only a week of classes left before spring break anyway. We can put it off until we get back, can't we?"

"We'll have to." Yugi agreed.

"Speaking of which," Malik mused, pushing open the cafeteria doors. "Where's everyone going?"

"Bakura and I haven't made any plans yet." Ryou stated as he sat at their usual table. "How about you and Yami, Yugi?"

The young hikari sighed. "Not a thing planned. Yami said he'd be happy to do whatever I wanted to do. But I don't really have any sort of idea what to do with my holiday."

Joey dropped down next to Yugi, fishing out his lunch from his backpack. "Mai thinks we should go somewhere exotic for the week." He rolled his eyes. "Somehow, I suspect it will involve a tournament." He paused, a small glint in his eyes. "Not that I mind. I could go for a decent duel or two."

Malik yawned. "I want to go away too. If for no other reason than to get a decent night's sleep." He wriggled his eyebrows suggestively and the others groaned. They all knew he was talking about his darker half's insatiable need for sex.

"Please, Malik. We're trying to eat." Ryou gestured at his lunch.

"How can you eat that stuff, Ryou? The cafeteria here sucks." Joey bit into his sandwich he'd brought from home.

Yugi laughed. "Maybe. But it's better than Bakura's cooking!"

"Or Marik's!" Malik made a face and shuddered.

"Hey guys!" Kala came up to the table and nudged Joey over to take a seat next to him. "What's up?"

"We were discussing our plans for spring break." Joey eyed the baggie of cookies she drew out of her book bag. "Hey! Where'd you find those?"

She rolled her eyes. "In the cookie jar on the counter." She replied, smacking his hand sharply when he reached over to take one - or two. "No! Mine! Get your own!"

"Damn." Joey scowled at his lunch.

Tristan and Duke showed up then, and joined their friends at the table.

They sat around for a while and chatted, continuing their discussions for spring break, when suddenly Kala's cell phone beeped loudly.

Everyone looked at her curiously. "Sorry. It beeps when I get email." She pulled it out and flipped it open to check out the new message.

"Cool! That's one of those fancy cell phones with the internet access and stuff." Tristan goggled at the phone.

Kala gave a sudden shout of surprise.

"What?" Everyone chorused.

"I…it says I just won a spring break package to Hawaii from this radio station I'm always listening to!"

They stared at her.

"Holy Ra!" Malik grinned. "That rocks! Details, Kala, details!"

"Uh…it's all inclusive - round trip airfare, hotel accommodations, meals, transportation…"

"Wow! This is great Kala! At least one of us will have a good time over the break." Ryou grinned and gave her a one-armed hug.

Joey leaned over to look at the screen. "Ack! 8 tickets! It's for you and seven friends or family members!"

"Are you kidding?" Malik snatched the phone from Kala, who made a grab for it but missed. "Shit! He's not kidding!"

"Gimme!" Kala managed to grab it back on the second try. "Wow! I've never won a contest before."

"How'd you win this one?" Yugi asked curiously.

"Like I said, I always listen to this one radio station and I entered a few contests before - but until now I've never won anything." Kala put the phone away.

"So who will you take with you?" Malik gave her pleading chibi-eyes.

"Well," She replied slowly, thinking about it. "Joey, Mai, and Serenity of course."

Joey grinned. "Great! Wait'll we get home and tell the girls."

Kala grinned back. "Yeah. Um…how about all of you guys? You all said you had no plans."

Duke sighed dejectedly. "Except me. I've got a business to run."

"And me." Tristan glowered at the table. "I've got this family reunion I have to attend."

The three hikaris exchanged glances. "We'd love to go, Kala. But we can't leave our yamis behind." Yugi said sadly.

Malik shivered dramatically. "I don't dare leave Marik alone to his own devices or to fend for himself. He'd drive Isis and Ishizu crazy because he'd get lonely and be over at their place the whole time."

"Scary." Ryou agreed, paling at the thought of leaving his yami home alone for a week. "I might not have a home to come back to if I did that."

"Yami would be alright if I left him. He'd just go spend the week with Grandpa. But I won't go anywhere without him, so it's nothing I'm worried about." Yugi sighed.

Kala looked at them, disappointed. "That sucks, guys! I can't go unless I've got enough people."

"We're sorry, Kala." Ryou apologized.

"Wait a minute." Joey gave them all a look that said 'you're all idiots.' "Are you three forgetting you each have a large, golden, magical accessory that Yami, Bakura, and Marik are all very familiar with?"

Yugi blinked then slapped his forehead. "Ah! I'm a moron! Of course!"

"The Millennium Items!" Ryou groaned. "I can't believe I didn't think of it before!"

"Uh, do you think they'll go for it?" Malik bit his lip in worry. "I mean, I know Marik isn't fond of going back into his soul room very often."

"We can ask." Yugi said reassuringly. "It may take some convincing but we should be able to work it out."

"It would only be for a few hours." Ryou added. "And we can afford to pay the extra costs for food and stuff for them."

"Barely." Malik muttered.

Kala watched them all hopefully. "Well?"

"We'll ask tonight and give you a call, Kala." Yugi promised.

"Alright!"

Duke frowned. "So what about the last ticket? Who else can you take with you?"

Kala slumped. "You're right. I hadn't thought of it."

"I'd suggest Ishizu and Isis," Malik sighed. "But they're really busy with a new exhibit at the museum."

Yugi glanced towards the cafeteria doors as he tried to think of someone else Kala could invite along. Then he spotted a familiar, tall, imposing brunette with ice-cold eyes walk in.

"Seto Kaiba!" He exclaimed.

They all goggled at him. "Yugi, are you suggesting Kala invite Kaiba on this trip?" Malik asked incredulously.

"Why not? He's not so bad." Yugi argued.

Kala flushed a little. "Oh, I don't know, Yugi…"

Yugi raised an eyebrow at her. "Come on, Kala. Ask him."

"Ask who what?" The CEO of Kaiba Corp. wondered, approaching the table.

Yugi grinned and ignored the pleading look Kala was giving him. "Kala won tickets to Hawaii for spring break. But she needs one more person to come along so she can collect the prize."

Kaiba grabbed a chair and sat down next to him, surprising all of them since he usually pretended they didn't exist. "Congratulations, Kala."

"I…thanks." She managed.

"So, who's going so far?" Kaiba asked, glancing at the others around the table.

"Well, Ryou, Malik and I have to talk to our yamis, but us, and Joey, Mai, and Serenity will probably go." Yugi answered, seeing that Kala was a little tongue-tied.

Joey, who'd also noticed her silence, caught on and said casually, "We were just telling her she should invite you along, Kaiba. I'm sure you could use a vacation."

Kaiba blinked at him and Kala turned pink. (A/N: Have you figured out she's got a major crush on Seto? Well, now you know). "Why me?"

"Because you're our friend too." Yugi hastily put in.

"Uh huh." Kaiba still wasn't too sure about that.

Kala sighed and decided to dive right in. "Yes, Seto. We'd like you to join us, if you wish. Please?" She forced herself to look directly at him as she spoke.

Kaiba held her gaze for a moment, then shrugged and stood. "Why not? I could use a break." He pulled a business card from his pocket, oblivious to the surprised and startled stares from the group (from all but Yugi, that is). "Here. Call me at home with the details, Kala. If I'm not home, talk to Mokuba and he'll pass them along for you."

"Uh…sure. I will." Kala accepted the card and Kaiba strode off.
