Chapter 2 - Spring of Love
"Oh! How this spring of love resembleth
The uncertain glory of an April day."
- Shakespeare, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, I iii [84]

The minute the tree hikaris' classes were over, they each dashed home to their yamis to inform them of Kala's luck - and to do whatever it took to convince Yami, Marik, and Bakura to make the trip in their soul rooms.

(Yugi's POV)
Yugi dashed in the door, bubbling with excitement as he yelled, "I'm home Yami!"
He bent to untie his shoes and heard a deep, amused chuckle. "So I see. What's got you all excited, aibou? I could feel you all afternoon."
Yugi stood and grinned throwing his arms around his leather-clad yami and delivering a loud smacking kiss to the Pharaoh's mouth. "Guess what?"
"Ah…you got an email from Tea saying she's never coming back?" Yami tried, a wistful, hopeful expression crossing his face. His Light rolled his eyes and giggled.
"Nooooooo…Kala won a contest from a radio station! She won this tip to Hawaii and she gets to take seven friends or family members with her! And she's invited us to come along!"
Yami raised an eyebrow. "Where is…Hawaii? And whom, exactly, do you mean by 'us?'" He led Yugi to the living room and sat on the couch, pulling his excited hikari onto his lap.
"Hawaii is a bunch of small islands in the Pacific Ocean near North America. It's really nice there. I'll show you on a map later." Yugi cuddled against Yami contentedly. "Kala invited Joey, Mai, Serenity, you and me, Ryou and Bakura, and Malik and Marik." He wriggled his eyebrows at Yami with a wicked little grin. "Oh, and Seto, too."
"What?! No way." Yami stared at him, completely surprised. "Did he turn her down?"
"Nope. He actually said he could use a vacation." Yugi's grin widened. "I think he likes Kala, Yami. He kept glancing at her when he was sitting with us at lunch today. Isn't that something?"
Yami pondered that for a moment. "Interesting. I think he's finally beginning to accept that we're his friends. He's loosening up."
"I think so, too. He's been different ever since we got back from Egypt." Yugi paused and tapped Yami's leg thoughtfully. "I've noticed that every time I see him, he's still wearing that ankh necklace he wore at the Ritual."
Yami smiled. "He is High Priest. And I think he's decided to continue that role here in this lifetime."
"That's great." Yugi frowned a bit, his thoughts reverting to Kala's trip. "So about the vacation…do you want to go?"
Yami kissed his forehead affectionately. "Certainly, aibou. If you wish to go, then I'll be happy to accompany you."
"Well, there's just this one catch…" Yugi fidgeted. "See, Kala's only got seven tickets. So in order for all of us to go, uh…"
Yami, through their link, could see exactly what Yugi was thinking. "Oh. I see. You, Ryou, and Malik are all going to ask us yamis to make the trip in the Items." He smiled a little and hugged Yugi reassuringly. "I don't mind, aibou. It's not that long a trip, is it?"
Yugi shook his head and stared happily up into Yami's ruby eyes with his own violet ones. "Not that long, no. You're sure you don't mind? We were all worried that you and Bakura and Marik would refuse to spend anymore time than necessary in your soul rooms."
Yami chuckled. "I'm sure, my love. As for Bakura and Malik, I don't really know what they'll say."
Yugi kissed him softly, running his hand through the Pharaoh's silky, tri-coloured, spiked hair. "I hope they agree. It wouldn't be the same or as much fun if they didn't come."

(Bakura's POV)
Bakura looked up from the TV as Ryou came into the room, wearing a somewhat apprehensive smile on his face.
"Hello, love." The Spirit of the Ring gave Ryou a questioning glance. "What's up? You look like you've swallowed a bug."
"'Kura, I've got some really fantastic news." Ryou came up to Bakura and knelt down in front of him, resting his elbows on the spirit's legs and staring up at him.
Bakura raised a white eyebrow. "If it's so fantastic, then why aren't you more happy about it?"
Ryou gave him a pleading look. "Because I have to ask you to do something and I don't know if you'll agree to it or not and…"
"Shhh…come here, little Light." Bakura tugged Ryou up to sit on his lap, Ryou straddling his legs and hips and curling into his yami's protective arms. Bakura kissed his hikari's furrowed brow and said, "Now. Tell me this news and ask me whatever it is and we'll talk about it."
"Well, Kala won this contest." Ryou explained about the trip and the tickets. "So you see, Yugi, Malik, and I wanted to know if all you yamis would agree to make the trip and back in your soul rooms so we can all go." He looked up and gave Bakura those adorable, soft, chocolate chibi-eyes that never failed to make the spirit's insides melt.
Bakura sighed. "It's not exactly one of my most favourite places, Ryou." He winced when Ryou's lower lip began to tremble and those eyes grew bright with unshed tears. "Ah! No! Don't do that! Ok! I'll do it…but only because I love you so much."
Ryou gave a squeal of joy and plastered his lips to Bakura's.
//Thank you, 'Kura! I love you too.//

(Malik's POV)
Malik paced back and forth outside his apartment door, grumbling and trying to figure out how he was going to get Marik to agree to go into his soul room for the trip.
He really wanted to go.
The door suddenly opened and a strong, tanned arm reached out and grabbed Malik by the collar, dragging him inside.
"Ack! Marik! Go easy, would you?"
"Sorry. Your pacing out there was getting on my nerves." Marik pinned Malik to the wall and made it up to him by kissing him senseless.
When he pulled away again, he gave a satisfied smirk at Malik, whose icy lavender eyes were glazed and very nearly crossed at the sudden onslaught of his yami's attention.
"So why were you out there pacing, anyway?"
Malik swallowed hard and shook his head to clear away the lust-filled fog in his brain. "Uh…what? Oh, yeah. It's about spring break. Kala won a trip to Hawaii and she invited all of us but she's only got seven tickets so we hikaris want you yamis to travel in your soul rooms…" He gave Marik an apprehensive look and he spoke quickly at the glower Marik gave him. "It's not for long! Just for the plane trip there and then back! Honest!" Malik clutched at Marik's shirt and pleaded silently with him. //Please, Marik? I really want to go and you'll really like Hawaii! I'll…do something for you…whatever you want! Please?//
Malik got a bit worried and began chewing on his bottom lip when Marik slowly smiled and an evil little glint lit up his eyes. Then he yelped in surprise when Marik bent and scooped him up, carrying his hikari to the bedroom and tossing him unceremoniously on the bed.
//Whatever I want huh?// Marik licked his lips and crawled onto the bed, straddling Malik and sliding his palms under Malik's shirt and up his stomach and chest, teasing and caressing with his fingertips.
Malik gasped and shivered at the ghostly touch. //Marik…why does it always have to be sex?// He moaned when Marik ripped the shirt off him - literally - and bent to lick at Malik's nipples then bite them carefully. //It's so hard on my wardrobe.//
Marik chuckled and continued to plant licks and bites all over his hikari's chest and down his stomach, making Malik buck and squirm. //Are you really complaining, my hikari? You're just as insatiable as I am and you know it.// He trailed a hand over Malik's crotch.
//I…know!// Malik, impatient now, tugged on Marik's shirt, indicating that he wanted it removed. Marik obliged, moving off the bed to strip completely, then undoing Malik's pants and taking them off along with his underwear and socks.
//Mmm…gorgeous.// Marik abruptly took him into his mouth and began torturing Malik mercilessly. //And all mine.//
//Ra! Marik, please…// Malik begged, his hands burying themselves in Marik's mane of ultra-blonde hair.
Needless to say, they ended up in a sweating, panting, utterly satiated tangle on the floor when they were done.
Malik nuzzled Marik's chest and nipped gently at his skin. //That was fun.//
Marik chuckled. //Yep. Oh, and Malik?//
//Yeah?//
//I'll go in my soul room for the trip.//
Malik sucked in a breath and stared at him, hopefully. //Really?// Then his eyes narrowed suspiciously at Marik's entirely too innocent expression. //You jerk! You were going to agree anyway, weren't you?//
//Of course. I'd do anything for you, Malik, especially if it makes you happy.// Marik grinned when Malik began to splutter indignantly.
//Then all this just now was…was…//
//Just for the hell of it! And because I love you.// Marik's eyes went soft for a brief moment before regaining their wicked light again.
Malik, unable to protest that, sighed and shook his head. //You're impossible, my yami. But thanks. It'll be lots of fun!//
//I hope so. So tell me about this Hawaii place.//

(Kala's POV)
Kala was just sitting down with Joey, Mai, and Serenity to eat supper when the phone began ringing.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Kala!" It was Yugi, calling to inform her that Yami had agreed to the soul room thing.
"Great! I'll let you know the details tomorrow, ok?"
"Sure. Bye!"
"Bye, Yugi!" She hung up and began to walk back to the table. She didn't get far because it rang again.
"Hello?" Kala answered for the second time.
"Good evening, Kala! It's Ryou."
"Hey! So did you talk to Bakura?"
"Yep. He said yes! So we're in!"
"Awesome! Details tomorrow, alright?"
"Sure thing. Bye!"
"Bye!" And almost as soon as she hung up, the blasted phone rang again. Joey gave her an amused look.
"Boy, you're popular tonight, aren't you?"
She stuck out her tongue at him and answered again.
"Hello?"
"Marik said we'd go, Kala!" Malik's voice blasted her ears. "We're coming!"
Laughing, she held the phone from her ear. "That's great, Malik. I'll give you details tomorrow, ok?"
"Okay! See ya!"
"Later, Malik!"
She went to the table and joined her family for supper…finally.
"I take it the whole gang is in?" Mai asked.
"Yeah. Now I've just gotta phone Kaiba and let him know all the stuff he needs to know." She made a little face and blushed.
Joey snickered and Serenity elbowed him under the table.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the dishes had been cleaned up and the kitchen, too, Kala went up to her room to call Kaiba and give him the details.
She sat on her bed and picked up the cordless receiver from the base on her bedside table, dialling the number on the card Kaiba'd given her with a hand that shook just a little. Stop that Kala. She scolded herself. There's no reason to be nervous.
To her immense relief, Mokuba answered.
"Hi, Mokuba. It's Kala."
"Kala! Hey! How's it going? Seto told me all about that trip you won!"
"Yeah. It's pretty fantastic." She smiled. "I was just calling to give your brother the details because I'd invited him to come along…"
"Oh, awesome! Did he say yes? He'd better have." Mokuba's voice held a note of total bullheadedness that seemed to run in the family. "I've been bugging him ever since Egypt that he needs to take more vacations, but noooo…"
Kala laughed. "Yes Mokuba. He accepted my invitation, though I'm not sure why."
"Yea!" She could almost see the younger Kaiba bouncing up and down. "Hey! Hold on a second and I'll drag Seto off the computer for you…" He dropped the phone before she could protest.
A few moments later, Kaiba himself came on the line, his voice smooth and, surprisingly, warm.
"Good evening, Kala. I take it you've got some information for me about the trip?"
She mentally slapped her self when she felt her cheeks grow warm at his voice. "Ah, yeah. Sort of. I just thought I would let you know that Yugi, Ryou, and Malik all convinced their other halves to come along so the trips definitely a go."
"That's good." He paused. "I wonder how they managed to talk the yamis into it?" Kaiba mused.
Kala didn't know if she was expected to answer or not, but did so anyway. "I don't really know, either, Kaiba. I imagine I'll find out at lunch tomorrow, though."
He chuckled and she felt her insides go mushy. "Knowing that group, I'd have to agree."
"Um, yeah. Speaking of lunch, I have to go to the radio station to pick up the tickets and get all the pertinent info so if you have time tomorrow, drop by our table at lunch and I'll pass your plane ticket along…and stuff." Oh, God! That sounded so pathetic!
"I think I can spare a few moments." He agreed, his tone teasing. Wait! He's teasing? Oh my God!
"Ok, great!" She winced at her silly, bright voice. "I'll let you get back to work. Bye!"
"See you tomorrow, Kala." He said, then hung up.
Kala pressed the 'off' button on the phone and stared at it.
Was he flirting with me or was I hearing things?
(Kaiba's POV)
Kaiba hung up the phone with a satisfied smile.
And nearly had a heart attack when Mokuba spoke up from behind him.
"So, big brother, are you going to explain why you all of a sudden decided to do what I've been telling you for months…no, years to do?"
"Ah! Mokuba, don't do that!" He gave his little brother a half-hearted glare. "What's to explain? I like Hawaii. And I don't have to pay for this trip."
Mokuba gave him a raised eyebrow and a completely disbelieving look. "Uh huh."
"What?"
"I think you accepted Kala's invitation because you like her."
"Oh, really?" Kaiba pondered that for a moment, debating whether he should lie about it or not, but Mokuba's expression said that would be useless. "Fine. Yes, I like Kala. She's…different than most of the women I've met."
"Ah ha!" Mokuba crowed triumphantly. "I knew it! I knew it!" He danced around excitedly. Kaiba rolled his eyes.
"Cut that out."
"Aw, come on, Seto! Lighten up! I really like her, too. She's nice, she's pretty, she must be really smart if she's in university…"
"Thank you, Mokuba, but I'd sort of noticed all that myself." Kaiba sighed. "Now, look, I don't want you getting all excited, ok? I haven't even asked her out yet. And you had better keep your nose out of it, little brother. I told you before, I can get my own dates."
Mokuba shrugged. "If you say so. Just don't do anything to screw it up, Seto."
The CEO of Kaiba corp. gave him a pained look. "Hey, give me a little credit, Mokuba! I'm not that bad."
"Well…"
