Chapter 4: Re-Entering the Kingdom
As quick as the caravan could carry the passengers, the travelers sped through the sands of the desert straight towards the kingdom of Cairo. Winds sped up and sand blew in their faces, but the travelers still went on,
The sun was set by the time the company reached the kingdom border.
“This is far as we can go, may the blessings of Ra be with you princess.”
“Thank you for everything!” Kurai ran off into the kingdom and kept to the shadows.
There were swordsman, soldiers and thieves running about freely through the streets, vandals ran freely along the streets going into houses as they please, Kurai stuck to the wall and ran as quickly as she could to the castle until she was felt a strong cold hand pull her aside into a nearby hut close to the palace.
“If you keep going like this you are going to get caught.” The hand stayed on her mouth as she stared at this blonde fellow, he was accompanied by a purple eyed blonde woman, a brown haired man, a black haired green eyed boy and there was another boy, he looked remarkably like the pharaoh yet he looked so young.
“If you promise to keep your mouth shut we might let ya live.” The blonde man spoke.
“Yeah kid, we can't have Seth knowing of our whereabouts.” The blonde woman spoke “The name's Mai, Kujaku Mai. The man restraining you is Jounouchi, and you can call him Joey. The black haired boy is Duke, the brown haired boy is Tristan, the short blonde girl that walked in is Rebecca and the man who resembles the pharaoh is Yuugi.”
Kurai was let go and immediately she walked over to Yuugi.
“You look like my father. Why is that? Kurai stared at the youth, his eyes were so big and full of life and his hair was like that of the pharaoh.
“Atemu is my brother, by pharaonic law, if there are two born then one is sent to live among the peasants and is retrieved if the pharaoh is unable to complete his duties.” Yuugi walked to the door. “Since you are his offspring you take the throne in his absence, we have to move”
“Yeah, Yuugi is right we gotta get the princess back to the castle!” Duke followed Yuugi to the door. “Or we can kiss the kingdom goodbye”
“Lets go for it.” Tristan began to run out the door when Rebecca caught him.
“We don't even have a strategy.”
“This is easy, we guide her to the palace wall and toss her over the top of the wall.” Mai also walked to the door and grabbed Kurai's hand. “How hard can that be?” Rebecca joined them along with Yuugi.
“Well Yuugi its your choice. I don't care, but we gotta get Kurai back to the palace.” Yuugi looked at his companions and his niece and then looked outside and saw lighting strike.
“Lets hurry! Before it rains too hard.
As the gang ran towards the palace, rain fell on them like water from a faucet, the streets were quickly filled with mud and water. Their feet pounded against the muddy street as they drew closer and closer to the stone palace. Not too long after the rain had started the company reached the palace walls and Kurai got hold of the wall.
“Thank you everyone. I will not forget what you did.” She had just made it over the top when Jounochi caught her hand.
“We're coming with you, just to make sure you get there.” Jounochi helped Mai and Rebecca across.
“Yeah we gotta make sure you at least get into the palace.” Duke jumped over the stonewall and with Yuugi on his back and Tristan followed.
“You're the princess and a friend, you can't die before you rule.
“Thanks, but as soon as I get into the palace you go search got that?”
“Fine. Jeez.” The gang followed her into the dark palace, exiting the pouring rain, but dripping wet entering the grand palace.
“Careful. Anyone could come out of no where.” Kurai looked around and saw no one anywhere within her sight range. “Ok you guys take this section of the palace and I will take the other half.” With those words she ran off into the darkness of the palace and swiftly, but quickly her steps vanished.
