Chapter 8: Recovering and Truth
Mahado carried Kurai's limp body to what was left of the sacrificial room, and placed Kurai's bleeding body onto the stone platform.
“What the hell? We are not going to sacrifice her! What the fuck is wrong with you guys?” Tears rolled down Lan's face from his sad ice blue eyes “How is this supposed to help her?”
Mana looked strangely at Lan.
“Of course we are trying to save her we have to get her to a sturdy surface so we can get what ever went through her shoulder out.” Mana came up to Lan and stared into his blue eyes. “I know how much you care for Kurai-Chan, but sometimes the only thing that can save a person isn't exactly the least painful way.”
A silver haired boy with brown eye's dressed in the robe of a white wizard came dashing into the room.
“My name is Ryou Bakura, I am the white wizard that wonders these lands. I have come to the service of the Pharaoh.”
“Yes you have been summoned here Ryou.” High Priest Karim acknowledged Ryou and Ryou came over to Kurai's limp and still bleeding body.
“We should remove the piece of debris that has gone through her child before we do anything else.” High Priest Shada suggested as he pointed to the sharp golden piece of debris that is sticking out of her shoulder dripping blood.
“I agree lets get rid of that object first.” High Priest Akunadin placed his hands on the object and began to push back.
“Allow me to cast a reduce pain spell before we start.” Ryou and High Priestess Isis preformed a spell that would allow them to remove the object without any pain from the unconscious princess.
“I will sturdy her.” High Priest Muran lifts the body so that the object could be removed from behind.
“I will remove it.” Mahado, with Mana's help removed the golden object.
“Oh my god, it's the millennium Rod, but how did that get beneath her?”
“It was Seth's doing!” Atemu outbursted at the wizard, priests and priestess. “Seth wanted the throne so bad that he would take the life of my own daughter because if she was out of the way, the throne would have to pass to him.”
“It's a good thing she's alive…right” Yuugi stared at Shada “Right?”
“Its difficult to say. Such a wound would have killed any other person, but some how she survived it. Yuugi. Take Lan and your company and go to the balcony…we need time.” Muran walked up to Lan.
“Lan. You must wait outside, some of the spells we may need to use to restore Kurai will not perform their duties if too much emotional energy is put into the air so you must wait with the others.”
The whole company was out on the balcony, the rain had stopped and everyone was watching the moonrise. Jounochi, Mai, Rebecca, Yuugi, Duke, Tristan, Shizuka and Lan were all waiting outside for news on the princess.
“I hope Kurai-Sama is not harmed.” Shizuka broke the silence. “I could not bear it if she died.”
“She won't die, she has too much spunk to die.” Mai looks at Jounochi “Kind of like you Jounochi.” Mai hugged Jounochi.
“Yeah Mai, Kurai will make it.” Jounochi let Mai embrace him as he looked over to Rebecca and Yuugi.
“She can't die! She can't fucking die…she's too fucking important to leave us.” Rebecca cries in Yuugi's shirt. “She just can't die. She just can't.”
“I know Rebecca, my niece won't die.” Yuugi looked at the moon as it began to rise.
“I think she will make it, after she has her father's spirit.” Duke looked over at Tristan who was leaning against a pillar. “What do you think Tristan?”
“She will defiantly make….” Atemu walked out onto the balcony. “Evening Your Highness.”
“She's going to be fine, but she has to stay here for a while.” He stares into the moon. “Death is such a hostile enemy, took the life of my sweet wife Anzu…Kurai was only 5 at the time…I am so glad she survived, I wouldn't be able to handle Kurai's death.” Atemu looks over to Yuugi. “You would have become the next Pharaoh, but Kurai is alive so you may live your life with Rebecca.”
Lan walks into the room to find that Bakura the White Wizard and the priests and priestesses left and there was Kurai, all bandaged up still in her torn clothes, but much more peacefully laying on the stone slap, resting in the moonlight. Lan knelt down at her side
“Kurai…I am glad that that you are fine…please awaken.” Kurai's shoulder bandage was a little blood stained, but she defiantly looked more relaxed as she slept. “Kurai…please wake up.”
Kurai stirred for a second and she slowly opened her eyelids revealing her crimson eye's that were so beautiful to Lan's eye's.
“Lan…hey…sorry to worry you like this.” Kurai turned her head so she could see Lan's face. “I am ok now. I can't really get up or use my right arm for a while…I think I have to stay in here for 14 days, I am very strong…it should not take long.” Kurai looks at Atemu, who had just entered the room. “Father…Mom says hi.”
“Thank you Kurai. You rest up. I have to talk with your fiancé.”
Atemu walked into the next room and Lan follows.
“You have my gratitude Lan, you have also earned my approval and you may marry Kurai if that is what you and her wish.”
“Really my lord?” Lan lost his breath for a moment. “I have your approval for your daughter's hand?”
“Call me Father from now on.” Atemu walked out of the room and went out to the study where the priests and priestesses were waiting for him.
Lan stood there, his hair blew in the evening breeze…he had won Atemu's approval, after all he had saved his daughter and he helped save the kingdom, but there was still something missing. He walked into the chamber in which Kurai was sleeping and once again knelt down at her side.
“What did you two talk about?” She looked at him with anxiety, but she was still very tired so her eye's were half open.
“I have your father's permission to take your hand in marriage Kurai.” Lan rested his hand on her left hand that was above the cloth that was resting on her aching body. “If you want to go through with marriage…I would like you to marry me?” Kurai looked at him and for the first time in many days he saw a nice smile creep across her face.
“I will go through with this…as soon as the feeling in my legs, back and arms return.” She chuckled and looked into Lan's blue eye's. “I don't think I would be here if it wasn't for the help I have received from everyone…allow me to sleep…so I can recover faster.”
Lan got up, but before he left he planted a soft kiss on Kurai's lips, as he broke away to go to the room he was staying in, he remembered the feeling of her lips. They were warm and moist…it would be two weeks before he could kiss her again
`Kurai…I will wait for you…until you recover.”
