Yelene: Hello, all! I am Yelene and this is my first fanfiction, ever posted on MediaMiner.org. So, please, no flames. I don't like flames. ::hides behind her Yami::

Yoshe: ^^; And I am Yoshe. I am Yelene's Yami.

Yelene: ^__^ Yep, she sure is!

Yoshe: -_-; I have a very hyper Hikari.

Yelene: ::pouts very cutely:: But you know you luv me.

Yoshe: ^_^; Yes I do, no matter how annoying you can be.

Yelene: U_U You're mean. And no, all you dirty minds. Not in THAT way! We love each other like sisters. : P Get your heads out of the gutter. I may write a bit of Yaoi and Yuri, but I certainly don't live it! Besides, I like Yami and Yugi. And of course another guy who will remain nameless.

Yoshe: O.O

Yelene: -.- ::huff:: Anyway! ^__^ Back to the happy me!

Yoshe: Disclaimer.

Yelene: ::sad sad pout:: Now look what you've gone and done! You've made me so very sad again!

Yoshe: ::whistles innocently::

Yelene: ;_; It's true! I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh. I'm not rich! I never have been! Happy? Happy now you big mean lawyer people?!

Yoshe: -_-; My aibou switches moods very quickly. (<Winner of Miss Most-Points-Out-the-Obvious Award.)

Yelene: Well! Now that that's over on to the story! ^____^

Yoshe: I thought you were sad.

Yelene: …

Yoshe: ?

Yelene: I was! ^___^ But now I'm not!

Yoshe: How come?

Yelene: Because I have cake! ^_____^ ::starts singing:: Cake! Cake! I Love Cake! Cake, cake, cake! CAKE!

Yoshe: -_-; ::groan::

Yugi: ::suddenly appears:: Did someone say cake?

Yelene: O.O ::gasp::

Yoshe: O.O

Yelene: YUGI! ^_________^ YEAH! Yugi's here! ::huggles Yugi really hard::

Yugi: ::turning blue:: …can't…breathe.

Yelene: O.O Opps! Sorry. ::lets go:: =^_^= I was just so happy to see you. ::giggles::

Yoshe: By the way, where did you come from?

Yugi: ::shrugs::

Yelene: ::grabs Yugi:: It doesn't matter! You're here now. ::smiles dreamily:: Ah. having cake and one of my very bestest crushes. I must be in heaven!

Prologue: Confusion

Yami sighed for probably the twentieth time that day. Yugi looked up from his homework, concerned. Yami was lying on his stomach across Yugi's bed, staring blankly at the carpet. This time, it was Yugi that sighed. He closed his textbook and set down his pen.

"Yami, will you stop sighing so depressingly like that and tell me what's wrong?"

Yami didn't answer. He didn't even look up.

"Yami?"

Still no response.

/YAMI!/ Yugi yelled through their mind link. Yami jumped and his crimson gaze snapped up to Yugi's.

"Huh? Oh...did you say something, Aibou?" Yugi sat down beside Yami and looked at him with worried amethyst eyes.

"Yami, I'm worried about you. You're so quiet, even more so than you were the first time I met you." Yami's deep red eyes, which could very efficiently hide whatever the spirit was thinking or feeling, softened slightly as he sat up.

"I'm sorry, Aibou. I didn't mean to worry you. I'm fine, really," Yami said, smirking faintly. He tried to convince Yugi that he really was fine. But how could he do that if he couldn't even convince himself? Yugi looked at him, not convinced at all.

"Don't lie to me, Yami. I know you're not fine. You've been like this for a long time. Now, please tell me what's wrong." Yami looked into Yugi's eyes.

~Such innocence and compassion.~ There was true caring in those gentle depths and. worry. And behind that fragile layer of beautiful amethyst was a proud determination. Yugi wasn't about to let Yami get out of it so easy again. Yami sighed deeply.

"Alright, Aibou." Yugi smiled brightly.

"Just take your time, Yami. I'm not going anywhere." Yami gave Yugi a slight grin of appreciation.

"It's just you remember when the puzzle was stolen." Yugi frowned.

"Yes. How could I forget? I almost lost you forever in that fire." (AN: Reference to the anime.)

"Well, I've been thinking. That person that took control of Bandit Keith's mind obviously knew a lot more than I do about the past. I just realized that I have very few memories of anything from that time period. I don't even know who my parents were, or how I treated my people as or…even who I might have loved." Yugi looked at Yami in sympathy. He knew what it was like to not remember some things that should be very important. His parents died when he was only three. (AN: I know that that isn't true, but just go with me on it, kay?) He had only a couple memories at all of them and those were still very vague. But poor Yami! He had absolutely none. Yugi smiled slightly, taking Yami's larger hand gently in his. Yami looked at him shocked.

"I'll help you, Yami. Together we'll figure out your past, I promise." Yami gave a smile, a genuine smile. How long had it been since he'd smiled for real? He didn't even know.

"Thank you, Yugi. You don't know how much this means to me." Yugi just smiled happily, back to his normal self. Yami shivered barely noticeably from the cold January air, but it didn't escape Yugi's eye.

"I'll go get us some hot chocolate, okay?" Yugi bounced off the bed, but not before giving Yami a quick peck on the cheek. Neither noticed the other blushing. Yami watched Yugi leave the room, the blush just now fading from his smooth, tan cheeks. He involuntarily paced his hand against the cheek that Yugi's petal soft lips had just previously touched. A slight warmth rose in his chest and unknown feelings began swirling in his head. He pushed them away.

~What are you doing to me, little one?~

Yelene: Okay, that's the end of the prologue. I did put in some subtle fluff. I know it's short. But I promise the next chapter will be longer. This is just necessary to get the ball rolling.

Yoshe: Where'd you find that saying?

Yelene: You know…I..don't..know. But it doesn't matter. ^_^

Yoshe: -_-; Why do I bother?

Yelene: I don't know the answer to that either.

Yoshe: …

Yelene: Anyway! Please R & R. I'm going for five reviews.

Yoshe: Don't you think that's a little much?

Yelene: Maybe, but I'm an overachiever.

Yoshe: -_-; Please R & R, and Yelene promises to make it more interesting. She says she knows where she's going with the story. Even if I and the rest of the sane world do not.

Yelene: HEY!

Yoshe: ::shrug:: The truth hurts.

Yelene: : P
