Yelene: Thanks for the comments Savara. I'm sorry that I didn't update sooner, but I was planning and rehearsing for my Uncle's wedding Friday night and didn't even get to go to bed until 12:00! Then yesterday was the Wedding and Reception. Then a thunder storm kept me off the computer. I'm really sorry.
Yoshe: -_- My hikari's tired.
Yelene: And my feet hurt! >___< Oh grief! They hurt!
Yelene: Yoshe: ::sing-song voice:: Well, you could have listened to me and just kept out of all the running around.
Yelene: ::pouts:: ::mumbles:: Go annoy someone else, you grumpy pants.
Yoshe: What was that? OVo ::Her Sennen Eye appears on her forehead::
Yelene: ^^; Hehe! Nothing! Nothing at all!
Yoshe: . oVo
Yelene: ::sighs in relief:: I think we better go on with the story before I end up six-feet under. U_U
Yoshe: Er...aren't you forgetting something?
Yelene: Huh? I don't think so...
Yoshe: ::cough:: Disclaimer ::cough::
Yelene: ::glare:: >_<
Yoshe: ::smiles innocently, before hiding under table:: And I thought I was the Yami.
Yelene: ::sigh exasperatedly:: You are. -_- I already did the disclaimer in the prologue. It will hold up for the entire story. I just don't feel like repeating it. ::big puppy dog eyes:: My poor heart can't take it. ;_; So please don't sue me, just refer to the prologue.
Yoshe: -_-; You know, you're really pitiful when you beg.
Yelene: ^__^ I know.
Yoshe: -_-; That wasn't a compliment.
Yelene: … (crickets chirp)
Yelene: ^_^; Anyway! Time for the thanks.
Yelene: Again thanks to Savara. And even to Readers who didn't review. U_U Although I would have appreciated if you had reviewed.
Yoshe: Think you took long enough?
Yelene: I'm gonna try to ignore you.
Yoshe: It won't work.
Yelene: -_-; It never does.
Yoshe: ^_^

Chapter 1: Hidden Dreams
**Set about two months after prologue**
Darkness surrounded Yami's vision like a thick fog, making it impossible to see even the nose on his face. Suddenly, bright light illuminated everything and he had to blink twice to adjust to the abrupt change. When he looked down, his eyes widened. Below him was a huge hall of gold, marble and ivory. There were alabaster pillars on each side of the marble white throne room and violet and blood red tapestries draped the walls. Hieroglyphics were edged into the base of the walls and pillars. Many female servants were fanning a shadowed figure that sat on the throne. (An: Guess who.) The court of people watched, smiling as the priests did many entertaining tricks and the girls danced, waving colorful silk ribbons. (An: I've been watching too much Prince of Egypt! ^^;)
Yami stared down amazed from where he seemed to be floating above it all, realizing that this was Ancient Egypt.
"Enough!" commanded the person that had been sitting on the throne, standing up. Everyone grew deathly silent and the priests and dancers immediately ceased their activities. Yami gasped as the person came into the light and he recognized him for the first time.
It was...him!
(An: Yep! You got it right.
Yoshe: It wasn't that difficult.
Yelene: -_-;)
A white, gold-lined cloth encircled the slim waist, but his smooth, darkly tanned chest was bare with only the Millennium Puzzle hanging from a brown rope- cord. A violet cape waved behind him majestically in the slight wind. Golden bands fit his neck and collarbone, his wrists and his upper arms. A golden crown with the Eye of Horus in its center covered his brow and golden dragon wings extending from the crown framed his hair. Golden ankhs hung from his ears and jingled softly with the slightest movement of the King of Egypt. The past Pharaoh Yami's cold crimson eyes glared at the court as they bowed their heads to the living god.
(An: I'll just call him Pharaoh Yami. Do you think I have too many author's notes?)
"Everyone but my advisors, GET OUT!" Pharaoh Yami shouted. Many people quickly scurried out of the room, fearing Pharaoh Yami's wrath. The ones that remained bowed deeply before their pharaoh. Pharaoh Yami sat down, leaning his head on the palm he propped up against the arm of the throne. "So what is the business for today?" Pharaoh Yami asked bored.
"Er, your majesty," said a man bowing deeply, "there is the matter of the lack of substantial harvest. The peasants are starving."
"Is there enough food in the storage?" Pharaoh Yami asked, sounding indifferent.
"There is enough left for barely half of our total population for this year."
"Then I suppose that some will starve. Better that way. The population is way too big as it is," Pharaoh Yami said coldly. Yami gapped down at his past self in disbelief.
~Was I really that cruel?~ Yami thought shocked.
"Give food to only the small, healthy families. The sick will die soon anyway and the less the children that survive from big families, the less population growth."
"Yes, your majesty," said the man somberly.
"Is there any other business, Head Advisor?" Pharaoh Yami asked.
"Well, you did say, your majesty, that you were in need of a new chamber slave."
"Ah, yes," replied Pharaoh Yami, straightening up a bit. "What have you brought?" The Head Advisor bowed again.
"We have bought quite a number of slaves for your inspection. Those that fail to meet your standards shall be sent where you wish, Pharaoh."
"Bring them in," commanded Pharaoh Yami, standing up. The other advisor's quickly opened the doors and brought in a line of about twenty slaves, many who looked very pained and broken. Yami heard his past self scoff. And was very surprised when he could hear what his past self was thinking.
~All these dirty slaves are already broken,~ Yami heard Pharaoh Yami think. He saw a smirk form on Pharaoh Yami's lips. ~Too bad. It's always quite fun to break them.~
Yami watched numbly, as Pharaoh Yami went down the line inspecting the slaves and turning them down just as quickly. Near the end, Pharaoh Yami stopped before a much smaller boy that had his head bowed and eyes closed. The boy had magenta colored hair that stuck up in many directions and was covered in sand and silt. (1) He also had dark blonde bangs that resembled gold if it were not for all the dirt and straw stuck in it. Pharaoh Yami roughly grabbed the boy's chin and raised his head, looking over the soft, pale features. Such pale skin color was very unusual in this part of the world. When Pharaoh Yami strictly pulled the boy's face up, the boy's eyes flew open. For a moment, Yami could see the small boy through Pharaoh Yami's eyes. He saw the big, blue-violet eyes, defiant, unbroken flame in those soft, ocean-purple depths that could not completely conceal the slight flash of fear and uncertainty. But behind that shining, defiant spirit was an undeniably obvious innocence. And if it was one thing Pharaoh Yami would not let pass it was an innocent soul. The young boy obviously realizing that he had been staring directly into the pharaoh's eyes, a fatal crime, quickly lowered his gaze, but never losing that stubborn look. Pharaoh Yami frowned.
"What is your name?" he demanded. The boy stayed quiet. A crack and sharp pain hit his back. The boy winced, gritting his teeth to keep from crying out. It was obvious that he was hard pressed to hold back his tears, knowing that it was punishable to cry before the pharaoh. Crying and screaming were considered weaknesses. The pharaoh did not allow weaknesses from his subjects or his slaves.
"Answer the pharaoh, slave," said an advisor, the same that had apparently hit him. Pharaoh Yami glared at the advisor, who quickly lowered his head. For some odd reason, Yami could sense the pharaoh feel a slight bit of pity for the young slave, an emotion that he obviously did not feel often.
"Show some respect," Pharaoh Yami snarled. "And do not act without my order again, or I will have you executed." The advisor fell to his knees in a deep respectful bow, trembling.
"Yes, your majesty."
Pharaoh Yami turned his attention back to the slave.
"Well? Answer my question."
"Akarui, your majesty," said the boy, keeping his head bowed in a subdued manner, very different than the look in those beautiful, blue-violet eyes. (2)
(An: Yuugi is his last name.)
"Very well. This shall be my new chamber slave." Yami pulled a thickly woven, tassel rope nearby. Soon another slave appeared, bowing lowly.
"You called, your majesty."
"Take Akarui to the room next to my chamber, get him cleaned up, and give him his orders," Yami told the newly arrived slave. The advisors discreetly gapped at the pharaoh. He had never called a slave by name before.
"Yes, your majesty," replied the slave, bowing his head slightly. He turned to the nervous, magenta-haired boy. "Follow me." After a moment's hesitation, Akarui followed the slave out of the throne room, keeping his head bowed the entire time.
"Separate the rest of these slaves among the kitchen and field work. Go now," ordered Pharaoh Yami. The rest hurriedly departed. If there was on good thing about broken slaves, it was that they would never bother to poison the food. Yami felt the pharaoh's thoughts drift to his new slave, Akarui. Yami began to feel a subtle feeling growing slowly in his past self. What could it be? Why did it feel familiar?
Abruptly everything went dark again. Yami felt himself falling.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Yami's eyes shot open wide and he sat up quickly. He was sitting on his bed. It was just a dream.
~What was happening? Who was that boy?~ Yami wondered, rubbing his head.
Yami was in his soul room and everything was fine. Yami could feel that his hikari was still asleep. The sun wouldn't be up for a few hours. Slowly he lay back down, closing his eyes. Yami drifted back to sleep and didn't have any more dreams for the rest of the night.
~*~*~*~*~*~
/Yami!/ Yami woke up to the sound of his hikari calling him. He yawned.
//What is it, Aibou?// he asked sleepily.
/Time to get up,/ Yami heard his aibou say. /I need you to watch the game shop for me. You know Grandpa's out of town on that expedition, and someone needs to watch it while I'm in school. Can you do that for me please, Yami?/
//Sure, Aibou,// Yami came out through the puzzle and solidified. He looked down into Yugi's grateful face.
"Thanks Yami." Yugi smiled a sinfully beautiful smile and Yami felt his heart stir. Shifting uneasily, Yami looked at the bedside clock.
"Aibou, hurry up! You're going to be late." Yugi looked at the clock and gasped.
"Oh my gosh, you're right!" He flew downstairs and quickly made some toast. Grabbing his schoolbooks and bag, piece of toast in hand, he rushed out the door.
"Bye Yami!" he called over his shoulders.
//Have a good day, Aibou,// Yami said through their mind link, chuckling. Then he turned to get his own breakfast and tend the shop for the day, thoughts of the dream still on his mind.

Yelene: Whew! That was a pretty long chapter.
Yoshe: Yes, I'm very proud of you. ^__^
Yelene: Really?! Aww... Thanks Yoshe! ::huggles Yoshe::
Yoshe: Okay, okay. Get off of me!
Yelene: ^^;
Yelene: (1) Silt is the mud and minerals left behind after the Nile River floods and recedes. It's what the Egyptians used to harvest their food and goods in.
(2) Yami doesn't realize who the slave boy is. Do you know? For some reason of the authoress' odd preference in order to have an accurate story line, Yami will not recognize who the slave in his dreams is for a very long time. The reason Yami hasn't changed is because he was not reborn, remember? He was trapped in the Millennium Puzzle, so his features didn't change. You'll understand his change in opinion later. And, no, this isn't a normal Yugi/Yami in Ancient Egypt fic. But…you'll see.
By the way, Akarui means bright light in Japanese. Get it? Hikari, Akarui, light? -_-;
I know, not very creative, but you try coming up with names with only my brain and a Japanese/American dictionary.
Yoshe: Please R & R and make both me and my hikari very happy.
Yelene: Er... It's 'my hikari and me'.
Yoshe: ::shrug:: Whatever!
Yelene: Right... Well tell me what you think! Bai-bai! ^.~
