Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Double Identity ❯ I'm Not Who You Think I Am ( Chapter 1 )
(Meira: This is a fic for my friend kurama-ish-mine, (or GLTB, if you prefer.) I put her in it as the main character. Most of this story is told from her point of view, but I put in some thoughts and stuff that don't really relate to her at all. Anyway, GLTB, enjoy this fic!
Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh!, and most likely never will. I don't own Saéka either, but I do own any characters that don't appear in the Manga or the TV show.)
"Auntie… who's that?"
"Um… that's nobody."
"I'm sure he's somebody. My teacher says that everybody's somebody."
"No, he's just an old family friend."
"Then he's somebody."
"Yes… I suppose so."
"He has hair that looks a little bit like mine! See? Black, red, and blonde."
"I'm sure it's dyed."
"Well, mine's not dyed. It just turned out this way."
"Little girls shouldn't think that much…"
"I'm four. That's old. That boy looks like he's my age."
"Um… that picture was from a long time ago."
"Then why does it say September 15, 1983 on the back? That was only last year."
"He's a lot older than he looks."
"Oh… but what's his name?"
"Um… oh, it's time for you to go to bed."
"It's only 5:30."
"Little girls should sleep early."
"…"
"Off to bed now."
"Okay…"
~~Saéka's POV~~
"Hey!" I yelled. My best friend, Virginia, turned around.
"Saéka!" she yelled back. "You're back from Italy!"
"Yeah…" I replied. Then I grinned. "I suppose you also forgot that today's your birthday… so I guess that I should say Happy Birthday."
"Saéka Mizuki!" she yelled, pretending to fume. "I did not forget that today's my birthday. I've been waiting for this day for the past… 12 years!"
"Well," I replied, smirking. "Happy 16th birthday."
"Yeah, whatever," she said, pretending that she didn't care. "I mean, today's the day that I finally get to get my driver's license…"
We both laughed. It was actually quite funny to see Virginia act like this. She was usually so serious. Maybe people did change dramatically when they turned 16…
That made me think to my 16th birthday. It was only… about… a week away? I would finally turn 16! Then I could get my license, something that I'd been waiting for, for a long time.
"Hello, is Saka in there?" Virginia asked, waving her hand in front of my face. I shuddered when I heard my childhood nickname.
"You're forgetting that I'm 15 now, not seven," I replied, annoyed at her.
"Sorry, Saéka," she said, putting emphasis on the e. "I mean, it's not everyday that I don't call you Saka…"
"I'm pretty sure that's everyday, Ginny," I replied, mocking her nickname. Virginia shuddered.
"I'll get you for that someday," she said. "But I'll be nice to you, since today's my birthday and all…"
We both laughed. This was starting to be one of the best days of my life.

"Aunt Diana!" I called when I got home, dropping down my backpack. "I'm home!" Aunt Diana stuck her head out of the kitchen door.
"Saéka, good, you're here," she said absently. "Can you come in here?"
"Uh, sure," I replied. I hadn't seen her like this since kindergarten. I walked into the kitchen. Aunt Diana was sitting at the table, poring over some papers. "What's up?" I asked. I looked at one of the papers. It looked like some sort of a contract.
"It's nothing…" Aunt Diana muttered. "Just some stuff that you don't need to be concerned about."
At these words, I knew that something was wrong. Aunt Diana never acted like this unless it was something crucial. I shook my hair out of my face.
Everybody'd always thought that my hair was strange. Black with natural blonde and red streaks in it. But I liked it. It was unusual… and it looked a little bit like a sunset. Besides, what was better in long hair than natural highlights that I didn't need to worry about losing? And my eyes. Lavender eyes. That was strange too. I mean, people normally don't have lavender eyes, right?
"Saéka," she said. "Do you mind going to Japan?"
"Why?" I asked curiously.
"To find someone. Someone important."
"And that would be…?"
"I can't tell you right now… now's not the right time. But do you think that you can go next week?"
"I just got home from Italy yesterday night…"
"I know… but this is more important."
"What's so important about Japan? I mean, I'm American. I don't have anything to do with Japan. It's not like I'm Japanese or something."
"No… of course you're not…" Aunt Diana said, carefully avoiding my eyes when she said this.
I'd always found it strange. Ever since I was little, Aunt Diana had sent me to a load of different countries. Training, she called it. I called it torture. But for some reason, she never worried about me forgetting the languages that I'd learned. Just Japanese.
For some reason, she'd taught me to read and write Japanese when I was young. I'd had to keep up learning it every year. I mean, she never cared about French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, and all the other languages that I'd learned. She just cared that I knew Japanese. Like she was waiting for something…
What I also found strange was that Aunt Diana had practically sent me all over the world. I mean, I've been to Italy, France, Germany, Russia, Egypt, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, China, Korea, the United States… okay, that last one doesn't technically count, but I live here, so that means that I've been to America. But in addition to those countries, there's always more. But I'd never been to Japan. So what was with all this Japanese stuff? I mean seriously, how bad could it get?
It was strange that she had avoided my eyes when she said this. I know I'm not Japanese. I'm half German, and half British. No Japanese. Though it was strange that I'd always looked Asian. But I'm European. Not Japanese. So why was Aunt Diana acting like this?
"What's wrong?" I asked. Was she keeping something from me? Something that could change my life in an instant? Something that was crucial to my future?
"Nothing..." she muttered.
"There's something," I said slowly.
"You'll find out when the time comes," Aunt Diana replied.

"Saéka!" Virginia yelled. It was Independence Day, my birthday. My 16th birthday. The day that meant the most to me. "Happy Birthday!"
I smiled. This was great. I was finally 16!
"Hey, I invited over some guys to come with us to the movies today."
"Who?"
"Rick and Wayne."
I grimaced. "Why Wayne?"
"Because I know that you like him," she teased.
"I do not!"
"But you do."
"I'd rather-"
I was cut off by my cell phone ringing. I picked it up. "Hello?"
"Is this Saéka Mizuki?" a woman asked.
"Yeah," I replied.
"Your aunt… Diana Mizuki… she's in the hospital."
"What?" I yelled. "No wa- Wh- What happened?"
"She got hit by a car," the woman replied. "We would appreciate it if you came over to the hospital immediately."
"Which one?" I asked, worried.
"Chicago Hospital," she replied.
"I'll be there right away."
"What's wrong?" Virginia asked, worried.
"My aunt," I said quickly. "She's in the hospital."
"I'll drive you there," Virginia said, jumping into her car. I followed her.

We got to the hospital, and rushed inside. I ran up to the front desk.
"My Aunt, Diana Mizuki, where is she?" I asked breathlessly.
"Diana Mizuki?" the woman asked. She looked at her list. "What relation are you to her?"
"I'm her niece," I replied shortly.
"Room 519, floor 5," she replied.
"Thanks," I said, and then rushed up with Virginia.
When I reached my aunt's room, she looked pretty bad. I mean, literally. I'm not even going to try to describe what it looked like.
"Saéka," she whispered.
"Aunt Diana," I whispered, rushing over to her side. "I'm here."
"Saéka," she whispered again. "I'm not going to last much longer…"
"No, please don't say that," I pleaded. "You're going to make it, I just know you will. Just don't give up… please…"
"Saéka, it's time you found out the truth about yourself," she whispered.
"What do you mean?" I asked, curious despite myself.
"Who you really are…" she whispered. "Your name is Saéka…"
"I know that. My name is Saéka Mizuki. I'm half German, half British, living here in Chicago, Illinois. I was born in New York City, New York. I'm an American. I'm 16 years old, and today's my birthday."
"Saéka, you're wrong," Aunt Diana whispered.
"What?" I asked, shocked at this. "I don't understand. I mean, you've always told me that. And now you're telling me that I'm not who I think I am?"
"Yes," Aunt Diana whispered. "It's time that I tell you who you really are…"
(Meira: This is a beginning chapter. Poor quality, yes. Not much suspense at all, but I was thinking about the Yu-Gi-Oh! Episode today when I was writing it. Lame episode… [that was ooc] But I promise that there'll be better chapters, once I get some inspiration. Hehe…
Just a few question for you readers. Saéka's not who she thinks she is. She's not Saéka Mizuki. But how do you think this will effect her life? How do you think it will effect your life if your parents told you, with no warning at all, that you weren't who you think you are? How badly do you think you would be shocked? Would it change your life forever?
