Doubles of Darkness, Final Chapter

Yami quickened his pace through the hallways; the others were taking too long, he cursed himself silently when he remembered that he didn't give them the code to open the door where the other two were still being held.

"I'm such an idiot," Yami mumbled, he finally reached them and saw Joey trying to break the door down, he chuckled softly.

"Joey, that's not going to do anything," Tristan said, Yami noticed that Seto preferred to stand by and watch Joey make an idiotic attempt to free their friends.

"He's right you know," Yami said, walking past them to the door, smirking inwardly at the startled jumps he was awarded from Joey and Tristan. "You need to know the code or you'll never get in," Yami quickly punched in the code and the door opened. The light from the hallway filtered into the unlit room before them, Yami walked in first and then turned to punch a code into another panel on the wall and the lights in the room turned on, although very dim.

"They're right here," Yami said, stepping aside as Joey and Tristan rushed in, Seto waiting outside.

"What happened to him?" Joey asked when he saw the condition Malik was in, Yami didn't respond.

"Let's hurry and get them out of here," Tristan said as he gently separated the two and lifted Ryou into his arms, careful not to wake him.

"Seto, could you get Malik? I still have to find Yugi," Joey said, and Seto walked in silently. Seto was cold most of the time, but you could tell by the way he gently lifted Malik that he really cared for his friends.

"You two get out, we need to get them out quickly and staying isn't wise," Yami said. The other two nodded and quickly hurried out after Yami handed them a small map.

"Where's Yugi?" Joey asked, turning to Yami; it wasn't hard to miss the anger in his voice.

"I don't know, he should be here unless..." Yami's eyes widened when he realized they must have started it already. He was stupid not to have noticed his gain in strength.

"Well?" Joey asked, getting more and more worried by the second.

"They've already started to drain him, we have to hurry," Yami said, then he grabbed Joey's arm and ran off towards the transformation room; thanks to his new powers that he was getting, he could tell if one of the others were near by, so far the only one was inside the room itself.

Otogi smirked as he watched the tube fill up. It had started out quickly, but Yugi's soul was strong and the last portion was very attached to his body and didn't want to leave. At this rate, it would take an hour to finish. When the container stopped filling all together, Otogi sighed in annoyance and sat in a chair, resting for a while.

At least that was until the door was thrown open and Joey and Yami rushed in.

"Otogi!" Joey yelled angrily and partially scared, taking a not so noticeable step behind Yami.

"Joey," Otogi smirked, and then turned to Yami. "Yami, what are you doing here?" he asked.

"I've come to free Yugi's soul," Yami said seriously, Otogi burst out laughing.

"Are you serious? This is for you, idiot, why would you want to free him?" Otogi asked, and evil grin plastered on his face. Yami glared and charged at him, pinning him to one of the chairs and locking him in. Yami had a greater advantage because he was stronger thanks to Yugi, but also because Otogi hadn't quite gained all his strength yet.

"Quickly, Joey, the blue button on that panel beside you!" Yami said pointing to the panel right beside Joey. Joey quickly turned and looked for the button, hitting it when he finally located it.

"Now, the black one beside it," Yami said, he sounded like he was getting weak and Joey realized it was because the container that was holding Yugi's soul was draining back into his body.

When Joey hit the black button, he heard Otogi let out a loud cry as he fell unconscious, still thrashing because of an on-going battle in his mind.

"It's taking out the evil that's been placed inside him," Yami explained weakly, now kneeling on the floor and trying not to pass out.

A few minutes passed and the buzzing of machines completely stopped, giving the room and eerie silence. Joey looked around and saw that Otogi was lying peacefully and that Yugi's soul had been returned. He rushed over to Yugi and opened the capsule, untied him and scooped his small form up into his arms, holding him close and trying not to cry with relief. Yugi was still unconscious and after what he just went through, Joey wouldn't be surprised if he stayed like that for the rest of the day.

"Yami, are you all right?" Joey asked, walking to the bent over figure of Yami.

"I'll be fine, get him out of here and hurry, Bakura and Marik will be here soon," Yami said, pointing to the door. Joey turned to go, but hesitated at Otogi.

"What about him?" he asked.

"He should be fine, that machine got rid of whatever was controlling him. Wake him up and he should be able to go with you, unless you don't want him to," Yami said, recalling what happened earlier. Joey stood there fighting with himself but since Otogi was a friend and it was obvious he had been under control, Joey released him and shook him with one hand, the other was holding Yugi - it was a good thing the boy was light.

Otogi awoke slowly and looked up at Joey, who didn't bother explaining.

"Come on, we have to get moving," Joey said, Otogi nodded and quickly got out of the chair, following Joey out of the room.

After about ten minutes, Yami sighed - the others would be safe now. Unfortunately, once Bakura and Marik came, that meant that he would probably end up getting killed for letting them go.

As promised, Marik and Bakura entered the room shortly after, both very angry the second they saw the empty room.

"What did you do?" Bakura asked angrily, holding back his urge to immediately kill him.

"It wasn't right...I let them go," Yami said, standing slowly, his weakness nearly evaporated.

"You what?" Marik said, thoroughly pissed off. He immediately lashed out at Yami and with that, the three of them began to fight.

The battle lasted a fairly long time; most of the time Yami spent on the floor but it didn't stop him. Eventually, Bakura tripped and Yami took advantage of that and strapped him into the chair Otogi had been in. Bakura was angry but not even he could break the binds that held him and Marik was to preoccupied to be able to save him.

In the end, Yami finally won, knocking Marik to the floor, unconscious. Yami walked to the panel and pushed the black button. It wouldn't rid all the evil from Bakura, but at least most of it so that he wouldn't be going after the others again.

Once Bakura was finished, Yami freed him and Marik was next. Yami strapped him in but the process of ridding most of the evil took an exceptionally long time.

When they were finally done, both Bakura and Marik were unconscious. Yami then made his way around the entire base; destroying anything that could be reused for those purposes in case one of them relapsed. The only one he kept working was the one that gets rid of evil; who knows when they may need it.

After all the work was finished, Yami dragged the two of them to their room and put them in bed and finally went to his own room to get some rest.

There would be many apologies in the morning.

Yugi blinked as he opened his eyes, he was very confused. Why was he at home? Was he just dreaming? It didn't seem that way, but he was glad to be back and judging by the warmth next to him, he wasn't alone. He smiled and rolled over, hugging Joey and snuggling up to the warmth.

"You're awake, thank goodness," came a soft voice, startling Yugi.

"J-Joey! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you," Yugi said.

"You didn't, I've been awake for a while so I could look after you. You scared me but I'm glad you're all right," Joey said, squeezing Yugi gently. Then he told Yugi what had happened before he fell asleep from exhaustion.

"Where am I...?" Ryou thought as he woke up. He sat up and recognized the sheets as the ones he used in the spare room at Yugi's. His heart sank, it was a dream and he hadn't really gotten Malik back afterall. There was no one beside him to keep him warm and he had no idea how he was going to find him.

"...Ryou? Why are you crying?" a soft voice spoke. Ryou immediately raised his head - he knew that voice!

"Malik!" he cried, jumping out of bed to hug his lover. "I thought it was all a dream...but you're really here! I'm so glad you're safe..." Ryou said, hugging Malik tightly. He immediately released him when he heard a sharp gasp of pain escape Malik's lips. Then he remembered that Malik was hurt and he hit himself on the head.

"I'm sorry, I forgot," Ryou said quietly.

"It's all right, come here," Malik said, pulling Ryou close to hug him firmly but without hurting himself in the process.

There was a soft and timid knock on the door, breaking the two apart as Ryou went to open the door; Otogi stood there.

"Um...hi, Ryou, Malik... I was wondering if you knew why I was here because I was told I'm not allowed to leave the house," Otogi said quietly.

"...Sorry, Otogi, but you have to ask Joey," Ryou said. Otogi's head sank as he turned to leave.

"I'm not allowed to talk to him, but thanks anyways," then he left, shutting the door behind him. Ryou gave Malik a puzzled look, but wasn't answered as Malik didn't know either. So, the two of them went back to bed.

Yami sighed as he walked up to the house he knew belonged to Yugi and Joey. Behind him he had newer versions of Marik and Bakura, but they caused him equal amount of trouble. If it wasn't for the obvious uses the machine provided, he would have destroyed it already. Thanks to the blasted machine, more than half of the evil was gone from them, but since that's pretty much all they were, it left only their sex drives intact, much to Yami's chagrin; the two of them couldn't keep their hands off each other.

"Will you two knock it off for once? We need to be serious about this," Yami scolded. The other two rolled their eyes but stopped nonetheless, not wanting to anger the other man. Yami sighed with relief and knocked on the door, a very sleepy looking Joey answered it; obviously he had just gotten out of bed.

"You," he stated. "What are you three doing here?" The anger in his voice wasn't hard to detect, although it wasn't as much as Yami thought it would be.

"We need to apologize and...Well those two are different now that I put them in the same machine as your friend. But I must warn you that their sex drives are working overtime," Yami smiled a little, hoping that it would lighten Joey's mood and luckily it did.

"Come in then, I'm going to wake the others," Joey said, opening the door farther then heading off to get the others. Tristan and Seto had also stayed the night; Joey had figured they would need them all there for the morning anyways.

Yami, Marik and Bakura walked in and took a seat. Yami on a chair and Marik and Bakura on the couch, sitting a little too close than was comfortable to Yami.

About ten minutes later, Joey returned with Yugi in his arms, still asleep and the rest of them in tow behind him; all fully dressed except for Yugi. Joey took a seat on the other couch, cradling Yugi - almost protectively.

"You can start now," Joey said. Yami looked past all the others and saw Otogi hiding in the dark, arms wrapped around himself like he was cold, but he was really a combination of nervous, frightened and confused. Yami looked at him sadly and then turned to Joey, looking between them before starting off.

It took them a good thirty minutes to apologize, most of the time was because they were constantly being interrupted with questions and Marik and Bakura's actions. Otogi still hadn't left the dark and was shivering now more than ever after hearing what happened. Unfortunately, he had yet to hear about what he had done to Joey - Joey wasn't quite up to sharing yet.

In the end, Yami thought it went fairly well. They were semi-forgiven and it would be a while before they were fully forgiven, but it was better than Yami had hoped for. At least now they could talk even if they were still being cautious. Of course, nobody was mad at Marik and Bakura for very long because they kept laughing at their funny antics and they couldn't remember what had happened anyways. Yami - for some reason - was the one they had trouble forgiving, even though he was the one that helped them all and had done the least amount of damage. If anything, they should at least speak to him instead of trying to pretend he wasn't there as they spoke with Marik and Bakura; who were like completely new people. Yami sighed sadly and decided to leave, not able to take anymore and no one would notice anyways. He stood and left the house, walking out the door and down the pathway.

"Yami, wait," a low, calm voice said. Yami froze, recognizing the voice and turned around.

"Seto...What are you doing?" Yami asked, a little more than surprised.

"I want to say thank you for your help in there," Seto said. Then he clarified, noticing Yami's confusion. "Back at the trial and when you helped us rescue the others," he said.

"Oh...it was nothing, you don't need to thank me, afterall, I was part of the whole thing that brought you there," Yami said.

"But you've changed. It's not easy and I hold some amount of respect to someone that can do that," Seto said, smiling - barely noticeable - but smiling nevertheless. Yami smiled back.

"In that case, you're welcome," Yami said.

"Just out of curiousity, why did you help me?" Seto asked, Yami's cheeks turned a light shade of pink.

"Well...to be honest, I found you attractive," Yami said, suddenly finding great interest in his shoes.

"Very flattering, thank you. I'm glad it wasn't a one-sided thing then," Seto said calmly. Yami's head snapped up.

"What are you saying?" Yami asked with wide eyes. Seto rolled his in return.

"Do I need to spell it out for you? I'm saying that I was also attracted to you," Seto said.

"Oh...oh! I see," Yami said, thoroughly embarrassed and resuming his interest in his shoes. Seto smirked and lifted his chin up.

"There's no need to hide yourself from me, Yami," Seto said and with that, he pressed their lips together in a kiss.

"Joey..." Otogi asked quietly, a few hours after the apologies. Yami and Seto had returned and it wasn't hard to tell what they had done while they were gone. It made the others roll their eyes and then resume their conversations. Otogi had waited long enough; it seemed like no one was going to talk to him, so he'd have to ask them. He cringed when he saw Joey stiffen at his voice.

"What is it, Otogi?" Joey said, sounding meek which surprised the raven haired boy; Joey was not a weak person.

"I...what did I do? ...I don't understand any of this..." Otogi said quietly, hoping not to scare Joey.

"...Don't you remember? I'm surprised you could forget such an experience," Joey said somewhat angrily.

"...No, I don't remember..." Otogi replied, looking away from Joey even though Joey hadn't turned to face him.

"You raped me," Joey said, and with that, he walked off. Otogi's eyes widened and he collapsed to his knees in shock.

"No...How...?" Otogi whispered to himself, he pounded the floor. "I'm so stupid!" He cried, hands going to his hair and gripping it tightly, so angry he almost wanted to pull it out.

How could I do something like that to the one person I've ever loved...? Otogi thought to himself, he walked back to the room where he slept and cried himself to sleep, it would be a long time before he forgave himself.

Meanwhile, Marik and Bakura were constantly touching each other when someone wasn't talking to them and having the time of their life. They were surrounded by people they could now call friends - something they never had before - and they weren't trying to kill anyone; especially not their doubles who they now treated dearly and made it their mission to keep them safe.

Finally, they were no longer, the Doubles of Darkness.

[End]

A/N - there, that's the end and no there will not be a sequel as it was hard enough to write this one. Sorry. Please r/r.
