Prologue

Long, long ago when this world was first created the Gods made dragons. Then the Gods made man and woman to be the companions of dragons. Soon the human race began to multiply and the Dragon race soon began to disappear, but before the dragons became to few a great war broke out between man and dragon.

The evil sorcerer Marik and his dragon companion Black Heart put fear and doubt into the minds of both man and dragon. Soon man and dragon began to hate and distrust one another. Though king Atemu with his companion Silver Wing tried to stop the people from doubting and fearing on another. Nonetheless it was hopeless Marik's influence over the human and dragon race was too far spread. As a last ditched effort to bring peace king Atemu summoned his most faithful warriors and friends along with their dragons to stop Marik.

Marik knew Atemu would try this. His seer Pegasus foretold this by peering into the king's mind. Marik also gathered his followers to thwart king Atemu from his plans. Soon the war began upon the ancient Egyptian sands. Both man and dragon was ready to fight to the death. Marik astride Black Heart gave a sinister grin and called to Atemu declaring him a weak, pathetic fool. King Atemu astride Silver Wing just glared in grim determination. King Atemu knew their numbers were to small to defeat Marik this day, but secretly vowed that he and his friends would find some way to destroy him and his evil ways.

Marik just laughed bitterly at the silent king and ordered the attack. Wasting no time king Atemu also gave the order to charge and attack. Those who were on dragons took to the skies to do battle while those without dragon mounts remained to do battle on the ground.

King Atemu's force was mostly mounted on dragons. His foot soldiers only contained 1,000 men and women, where he had 1,500 mounted men and women to give aid to those on the ground. Yet, Marik's force was larger and stronger. They were out numbered by 5 to 1.

Marik smiled evilly at the chaos he brought forth and instead of engaging in battle he sat back on Black Heart and watched Atemu's foot soldiers get slaughtered. Marik barked the order to his dragon-mounted soldiers to salvage as many dragons as possible.

Atemu's forces were being literally slaughtered on the ground and in the sky. The blood of the mounted soldiers seemed to turn the sky red and the clouds black. The blood shed on the ground seemed to pool and make a lake, from all the blood. Atemu's face contorted in defeat and shock. In less than 30 minutes Atemu's foot soldiers were completely destroyed, not one man or woman lived on the ground from the slaughter.

Marik continued to smile as his foot soldiers waded through the blood to strip the dead of their belongings. Bakura, his right hand man, gave the order to steal from the dead. Marik of course had no objections to this, since it seemed to further torture the king.

Atemu knew he was defeated and now had the deaths of over a thousand men and women weighing on his heart and mind. His kingdom and rein was drawing to a close. Atemu just prayed that Yugi, his younger brother, was safe out of harms way.

Those who were still on dragon mounts began to panic and tried to flee, with the exception of Atemu's closest friends. Marik gave the order to chase down those who are trying to flee and capture their dragons. Bakura smiled and ordered the men and women mounted on the fleeing dragons to be killed and their belongings stripped from them.

Now the only ones left alive was 900 captured dragons, Atemu, and his twelve friends, plus the dragons they were mounted on. The future looked grim for Atemu and his friends. For it seemed they wouldn't live to see another day.

Marik smiled wickedly knowing he defeated king Atemu and his rein. Before Marik could give the order to kill them with the exception of Keket, Atemu gave Basteta the order to use her magic to get them out of there. Basteta being half goddess cast a flash spell that blinded all of their enemies so they could escape.

Escaping their enemies Atemu rushed to his country home somewhere in Europe and picked up his younger sibling and his brother's dragon. From there Atemu flew to Scotland to speak with Druid wizards. After discussing with the wise old wizards, Atemu decided to put Marik and his closest followers under a sleeping spell that would last for all of eternity. The only consequence to the spell was Atemu must sleep himself to ensure the spell was not to be broken. So, the gallant young king gave the order for the sleeping spell, but before it was cast Atemu made the request that all dragons to be sealed in special metal medallions. Saying a final farewell Atemu was put to sleep.

That very same day Marik and hi closest followers where put under the spell. The oldest Druid wizard paid a visit to the people Atemu once ruled and told them why Marik and the others lived, but at the same time they were like in a gentle repose of death.

So the people sealed the bodies of Marik, Seto, Pegasus, Anzu, and Bakura in an underground tomb to sleep eternity away, while in Scotland Atemu was put in a temple by the sea to spend eternity as the Guardian King.

As soon as the oldest Druid wizard returned he fulfilled Atemu's request. The air filled with chanting and the clouds turned black, lightening flashed dangerously as the wind picked up. Then the roars of all dragons began to sound throughout the world. Then as quickly as the roaring began it stopped with a cold dead silence. There was a bright light and it soon engulfed the world. As soon as the light vanished all that was left of the dragons were medallions.

The oldest wizard turned to Atemu's friends and spoke: "Those who are pure of heart and mind may only unlock the sleeping dragon within. From this day hence you twelve will pass you dragon medallions until a chosen owner is found." Before any one could say a word, more chanting filled the air and when it was over the wizards explained that all other dragon medallions, including those of Marik and his closest followers, were scattered all over the world and sealed within and within places on earth.

The friends of Atemu who were: Joey, Mai, Ryou, Tea, Masika, Keket, Malik, Basteta, Duke, Tristen, Serenity, and his brother Yugi. They all vowed from that day forward to pass on their medallions in each of their families until the chosen owner was found for each of their families.

So a new legacy begins as a new day dawns. The twelve friends parted ways to find a partner to create a family with to pass on that legacy . . .

Japan year 1991

"So you see you were named after the female warrior Basteta. Not only that this is the very same medallion that holds the sleeping dragon, Dragoness, sealed within."

Basteta who is seven years old looks up at her grandmother with a cute chibi face and says: " Wow, great story grandmaw. Can I go play now? I promised Masika I would meet her at her house to play."

Basteta's grandmother just sighed knowing that Basteta was to young to understand the story now, but in time she would.
