Battle Stage 18: Separate Journey's! A Consolidation of Darkness

 

A city encased in steel at the centre of the Shuba region. That is the description given in the maps issued to duellists. This is partly true, but the whole truth is a secret buried deep beneath the crust where prying eyes cannot see. A room beneath the surface was filled with mainframes and terminals, behind the mainframes were tubes filled with unnamed gasses and liquids which emptied into large glass vats, some several stories tall.

 

In the middle of the terminal bank sat a woman in a white coat, she was attractive but stern with long blonde hair tied in a bun. She adjusted her glasses and returned to her screen, the display was running equations; some so complex it took an entire mainframe to process. Deciding to let it run she moved to a second terminal with more numbers on the display. However this display also contained the letters GTAC the formula for genetic code.

 

The woman sighed and rose walking towards a nearby vat, her fingers brushing a golden name plate. `Soon, it's all coming together now, and soon they'll know I was right. Then my perfect creature, we'll be together.'

 

“Yuugi! Yuugi where are you?” Serenity yelled into the early morning mist, the previous night's events had left her shaken to the foundations of her beliefs. Anzu was her best friend, Anzu had taken her out for her first ever clubbing experience, Anzu was like a sister, or was… as for Jyoonouchi… “Yuugi, can you hear me?”

 

“Of course I can, I'm not deaf.” Yuugi responded from behind her. Serenity spun around, Yuugi was leaning against a tree, despite his attitude Serenity could tell he'd spent some time crying, his eyes betraying his smug exterior, “Yuugi…” She began but he interrupted, more by walking than with words, “Are you that loud in bed?” He asked smirking as he passed her, his demeanour changing as soon as she was out of sight of his face, “What are you doing here Serenity?”

 

“I couldn't stay there… not after last night.” Serenity responded looking away, Yuugi's amethyst eyes were more piercing than usual. Yuugi frowned and crossed his arms, “You could have gone with Mai or Seto.” He responded, Serenity nodded still averting his eyes, “I, could have but…” Serenity paused, “But I feel safest with you.” Serenity finished finally looking into Yuugi's eyes. He dropped his arms and ran his hand through his hair, “Fine…” Serenity smiled, “Thank you Yuugi-chan.”

 

“It's ok, just don't call me Yuugi-chan.”

 

Serenity nodded smiling meekly, “Ok, Yuugi.” He nodded and started walking down the path, Serenity turned and blinked, “Huh, hey!” Serenity yelled running after him, Yuugi turned and sighed waiting for her to catch up before they continued.

 

The trail split at the fork, the paths led towards Suzaku, Camelot and Yuugi and Serenity's destination, Khepri, where Yuugi suspected Yami would be waiting to face him in a duel. A prospect Yuugi was dreading, considering the last time he faced the Pharaoh he lost. Suddenly though that was put on hold by a man standing at the fork dressed in black with short dark hair and an unshaven face, “Yuugi Mutou, I've been waiting for you and of course your lovely lady friend, An… no, no Serenity.” The man said with a smile.

 

“You would be?”

 

“My name is Ari, I have been told to challenge you to a duel.”

 

“Told, by who?”

 

“My dear Yuugi the correct pronunciation is whom.”

 

“Ok, whom?”

 

Ari smiled, “I was sent, by a bird I think you would say.”

 

“If you say so.” Yuugi responded allowing Ari to shuffle his deck, when he placed the cards back into his duel disk he paused seeing an odd black device protruding from the life point counter, Yuugi's eyes narrowed, “What is this?”

 

“Trust me Yuugi, it's worth finding out along the way.”

 

“Very well.” Yuugi responded watching the toss, which went his way.

 

Yuugi Mutou Life Points: 8000

Ari Life Points: 8000

 

::Yuugi::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I'll summon Skilled White Magician (Light/Spellcaster/Effect/4 ATK/1700 DEF/1900) in attack mode;

 

2. Now I'll play Tribute Doll (Spell) and sacrifice Skilled White Magician;

 

3. To summon Buster Blader (Earth/Warrior/Effect/7 ATK/2600 DEF/2300) in attack mode;

 

4. Two cards face down.”

 

::Ari::

 

“How interesting, I draw;

 

1. Crawling Dragon #2 (Earth/Dinosaur/4 ATK/1600 DEF/1200) in attack mode;

 

2. Axe of Despair (Equip/Spell) increases Crawling Dragon #2's attack one thousand points (ATK/2600);

 

3. Two cards face down.”

 

::Yuugi::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I play Pot of Greed (Spell) to draw two cards from my deck;

 

2. Now I can play Black Magic Ritual (Ritual/Spell);

 

3. And send Dark Sage (Dark/Spellcaster/Effect/8 ATK/2800 DEF/3200) from my hand;

 

4. To special summon Magician of Black Chaos (Dark/Spellcaster/Ritual/8 ATK/2800 DEF/2600) in attack mode.”

 

“Thank you Yuugi, I'll activate Hunting Instinct (Trap), this card activates when you special summon a monster to your field and allows me to summon a dinosaur sub-type monster like my Super Conductor Tyranno (Light/Dinosaur/Effect/8 ATK/3300 DEF/1400) in attack mode.”

 

5. “I'll summon Kuriboh (Dark/Fiend/Effect/1 ATK/300 DEF/200) in attack mode;

 

6. Now Magic Box of Death (Spell) destroys your Super Conductor Tyranno and gives you my Kuriboh;

 

7. Buster Blader destroy Kuriboh;

 

8. Magician of Black Chaos destroy Crawling Dragon #2!”

 

Buster Blader's attack destroyed Kuriboh; Magician of Black Chaos's attack destroyed Crawling Dragon #2.

 

As Buster Blader's attack went through Kuriboh it hit Ari ripping through his shirt and tearing his skin he grinned through the pain, “As you see, the device makes things interesting.”

 

“Oh yes, I find it exilerating.” Yuugi responded with a smirk.

 

“Yuugi!” Serenity yelped in shock.

 

“Stay out of it An… Serenity!” He growled.

 

Yuugi Mutou LP: 8000

Ari LP: 5500

 

::Ari::

 

“I draw;

 

1. Monster Reborn to revive Super Conductor Tyranno;

 

2. I'll summon Gagagigo (Water/Reptile/4 ATK/1850 DEF/1000) in attack mode;

 

3. I can now activate Ultra Evolution Pill (Spell) and sacrifice Gagagigo to summon Ultimate Tyranno (Earth/Dinosaur/Effect/8 ATK/3000 DEF/2200) in attack mode;

 

4. Ultimate Tyranno's special ability allows it to attack all monsters on your side of the field once;

 

5. Super Conductor Tyranno attack!”

 

Ultimate Tyranno's attacks destroyed Magician of Black Chaos & Buster Blader; Super Conductor Tyranno's attack inflicted 3300 points of direct damage to the opponent.

Yuugi Mutou LP: 4100

 

Super Conductor Tyranno's attack washed over Yuugi, from the heart of the blaze Serenity could hear Yuugi screaming. The fire disapated quickly and Yuugi fell to his knees covered in burns to which Yuugi laughed, “You can do better than that, bring it on!”

 

Serenity's eyes teared up, “Yuugi… please…”

 

“Be quiet Serenity!” Yuugi yelled his eyes full of anger and spite. Serenity recoiled and fell silent, Yuugi turned back to Ari, “My move.”

 

::Yuugi::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I summon Obnoxious Celtic Guard (Earth/Warrior/Effect/4 ATK/1400 DEF/1200) in defence mode;

 

2. I add Horn of Light (Equip/Spell) to increase its defence eight hundred points (DEF/2000);

 

3. I'll end my turn.”

 

::Ari::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I'll summon Sabersaurus (Earth/Dinosaur/4 ATK/1900 DEF/500) in attack mode;

 

2. But it won't be around for long, using Super Conductor Tyranno's special ability to sacrifice Sabersaurus to inflict one thousand points of direct damage;

 

3. Ultimate Tyranno attack!”

 

Ultimate Tyranno attacked Obnoxious Celtic Guard.

 

“Obnoxious Celtic Guard's special ability doesn't allow it to be destroyed in battle with monsters that have nineteen hundred attack points or more, sorry Ari.”

 

Ari LP: 5500

Yuugi Mutou LP: 3100

 

Ari smiled, “I was told you would be trouble.”

 

Yuugi grinned, “Glad to hear it.”

 

::Yuugi::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I'll remove Skilled White Magician and Dark Sage from my graveyard;

 

2. To summon Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of Beginning (Light/Warrior/Effect/8 ATK/3000 DEF/2500) in attack mode;

 

3. Now I'll activate Black Luster Soldier's special ability to remove Super Conductor Tyranno from play;

 

4. Now a card face down and that's it.”

 

::Ari::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I think I've found a flaw in your plan, I summon Hyper Hammerhead (Earth/Dinosaur/Effect/4 ATK/1500 DEF/1200) in attack mode;

 

2. Ultimate Tyranno attack;

 

3. Hyper Hammerhead attack Obnoxious Celtic Guard!”

 

Ultimate Tyranno attacked Obnoxious Celtic Guard; Ultimate Tyranno's attack destroyed Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of Beginning and itself; Hyper Hammerhead's attack failed; Hyper Hammerhead's special ability returned Obnoxious Celtic Guard to the opponent's hand.

Yuugi Mutou LP: 3100

“Well, it was worth a try, I draw;

 

1. I'll summon Magician's Valkyria (Light/Spellcaster/Effect/4 ATK/1600 DEF/1800) in attack mode;

 

2. Magician's Valkyria attack Hyper Hammerhead;

 

3. This activates Magician's Circle (Trap) which allows us to summon one Spellcaster monster with two thousand attack points or less each;

 

4. I summon Dark Magician Girl (Dark/Spellcaster/Effect/6 ATK/2000 DEF/1700) in attack mode.”

 

“Sadly, I have no Spellcaster to summon.” Ari responded.

 

5. “I guessed as much, now Sage's Stone (Spell) from my hand allows me to summon Dark Magician (Dark/Spellcaster/7 ATK/2500 DEF/2100) in attack mode if I have Dark Magician Girl already on the field;

 

6. The last piece of the puzzle Thousand Knives (Spell) activates, when I have a Dark Magician on the field I can use this card to destroy one monster on your field;

 

7. That's it with a card face down.”

 

::Ari::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I summon Uraby (Dark/Dinosaur/4 ATK/1500 DEF/1200) in attack mode;

 

2. And add Gravity Axe - Grarl (Equip/Spell) to increase Uraby's attack five hundred points (ATK/2000);

 

3. The special ability of Guardian Grarl (Earth/Dinosaur/Effect/5 ATK/2500 DEF/1900) allows me to summon it without tribute if it's the last card in my hand;

 

4. Guardian Grarl attack Dark Magician Girl!”

 

“Not yet, reveal Mirror Force (Trap) which destroys all your attack position monsters.”

 

::Yuugi::

 

“I draw;

 

1. I'll add Tomb of Magic's (Spell) to Dark Magician Girl to increase her attack seven hundred points (ATK/2700);

 

2. Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl attack!”

 

Dark Magician's and Dark Magician Girl's attacks inflicted 5200 points of direct damage to the opponent.

 

Yuugi Mutou LP: 3100

Ari LP: 0

 

The flames of their attacks hit Ari like a brick wall, burning his skin and clothing harshly. However Ari said nothing, not even a small scream, he simply stood in the flames smiling. The flames expired and he crumpled to the ground. Yuugi walked to Ari, standing over him, “It, seems you have won, my dear Yuugi.”

 

“So it seems.” Yuugi responded.

 

“I would tread carefully Yuugi… I am not the last who would challenge you, the Phoenix, is rising.” Ari said rasping, grasping his chest, suddenly he collapsed, Yuugi knelt beside him as Serenity approached, “Is he?” She asked, Yuugi replied with a nod shutting Ari's eyes with his fingers.

 

“What now?”

 

Yuugi stood, “Now, we go to Khepri.”
