Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction ❯ Ecstasy ❯ Don't Wanna Lose You Now ( Chapter 6 )
Ecstasy
The Panasonic Princess
Author's Note: This one's… short. Sorry. The next chapter will be much more satisfying. I promise. But hey, there's enough drama and angst in this chappie to hold you over 'til next time ^.^.
Lyrics from The Backstreet Boys' "Don't Wanna Lose You Now" and "Back to Your Heart." Please don't kill me, I had to use a boy band. ^.^
Don't like it? Don't read. Simple enough. Especially if you really like Otogi.
And I have finished Ecstasy! The sequel is underway. My working title is Karma, but that could change. Karma is my favorite title of all, but I'm leaning towards other titles. I'll give you a little preview/summary in the next chapter, which will probably be up later this week. Suffice to say it will have much more plot to it than this story.
I am also working on a sequel to Acquainted With the Night, which I will most likely call Dying of the Light. It'll answer some questions that you might not have even been asking. Just… don't assume anything. AWTN is not all it seems to be (I'll give you a hint: The last sentence is meant to throw you off, but I'm not telling how! Read the story!).
Chapter six:
Don't Wanna Lose You Now
(Back To Your Heart)
I've got this feeling you're not gonna stay
It's burning within me
The fear of losing, of slipping away
It just keeps getting closer
Whatever reason to leave that I've had
My place was always beside you
And I wish that I didn't need you so bad
Your face just won't go away
*~*
The only sound in the car going home that night was that of Yami's quiet sobs and his hikari's gentle reassurances. Marik drove silently, not knowing what to say to the two in the back seat, clutching at each other as though the end of the world was on its way. He felt bad for the pharaoh, very bad. He did wrong, he hurt Bakura… but his hurting affected Yugi, and the blonde hated seeing Yugi so distressed…
He couldn't even muster enough jealousy to break up the pair, curled up in each other's arms.
So, the ride home was awkwardly quiet and tense. When they got in, Yami ran upstairs. Marik stopped Yugi from going after him.
"He needs space," the yami explained, seeing Yugi's stricken look, "And we need to give it to him." Yugi nodded.
They headed to the living room and collapsed on the couch, Yugi resting in his lover's lap. They were quiet for a long while. Marik held his kitten close, reveling in the closeness of the petite body.
"Marik?"
The blonde looked down at Yugi, cocking his head at the inquiry.
"Yeah, kitten?"
"Is… well, are they gonna be okay?" the teen asked, "Will they, you know, make up?"
Marik hesitated, then replied.
"I don't know," he said, "I guess it's all up to them. Bakura's not… big on forgiveness. And Yami fucked up pretty bad. There's a good chance they'll never get back together."
"…oh."
There was another awkward silence, not unlike the one in the car. Marik placed a chaste kiss on Yugi's neck, holding him tight.
He just hoped this all turned out well.
(If I wasn't such a fool
Right now, I'd be holding you
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
Baby, if I only knew…)
Yami buried his face in his pillow, trying to stop the tears that threatened to overflow. He'd lost Bakura forever. The albino would never take him back.
It wasn't a welcome conclusion, but it was true.
He felt alone for the first time in a long while. The only thing that could have possibly compared to this was his three millennia imprisonment in the Puzzle. And even then, he didn't feel so… empty.
He himself couldn't explain why he did it. Maybe because he was so used to Otogi being there to comfort him. Maybe it was because of the anger clouding his senses. Maybe it was plain stupidity. He'd never truly know.
The doorbell rang, and he lifted his head to listen for an indication that Yugi answered it. It didn't come.
Yugi must be asleep…
He pushed himself off the bed and trudged downstairs. Peeking in the living room, he saw his hikari and Marik fast asleep on the couch. He sighed at the protective grip the blonde had Yugi in.
He opened the door, and his eyes narrowed.
"What do you want?" he hissed.
Otogi stepped forward.
"Look, I'm really sorry you and Bakura broke up," he said, "I wanted to make it up to you."
"Haven't you done enough?" Yami spat, "I don't need you to make it up to me. I'll be fine."
"You need someone to talk to, at least!" the black-haired teen cried, "Brake-ups are hard-I should know."
Yami's eyes lowered.
"What happened tonight should've never been," he murmured, "Now, if you would please just leave… my hikari is sleeping. You'll wake him up."
"Then come with me," Otogi pleaded, "I just wanna talk to you."
His tone pulled at Yami's heart, and he gave in.
"Well… okay," he replied, "But only to talk. I can't…" he trailed off, unable to say the words.
"It's okay. It doesn't have to come to that."
Somehow, Yami knew it would (it always did) as he slipped on his shoes and followed his ex out of the house.
Yugi yawned quietly as he awoke in his lover's arms, and he rubbed at his eye tiredly. Deft fingers brushed his bangs out of his face, and he smiled up at Marik.
"How long have you been up?" he asked.
"About half an hour."
"You could've moved me out of the way. Your legs must be asleep."
Marik smirked.
"But you looked so comfortable and sweet, I couldn't risk waking you," the blonde replied, "And I love watching you sleep."
Yugi blushed. He stood suddenly, moving toward the stairs.
"I should go check on Yami," he said, "He was really shaken up about what happened. I wanna make sure he's okay."
"He's able to take care of himself, kitten," the dark, taking his smaller lover's arm in his hand gently, "Leave him be." He circled his arms around the thin waist.
"He's my yami," Yugi protested, pulling away from the inviting heat, "I have to check on him. He needs to know that I'm here for him."
He climbed the stairs before Marik could protest. He walked as quietly as possible up to his yami's door. His hand hesitated over the doorknob.
There were voices coming from the room.
Had Bakura come over? Did they make up? No, that wasn't Bakura's voice, crisp and clean, floating from inside the room. It was Otogi's.
"…maybe I should go," came the obsidian-haired boy's voice, "They'll be up any minute…"
"No. It'll be fine. They won't care," said Yami. Yugi frowned.
Like hell I won't.
He was tempted to burst in on them and throw the little home wrecker out on his ass, but he resisted it. This was Yami's decision-it was his life. It was none of Yugi's business what his dark did with other people.
He'd be there to pick up the pieces after it was all over. Again.
He tiptoed back downstairs to his own lover, who was waiting for him at the foot of the stairs.
"What happened?" he asked.
"He brought Otogi home last night," Yugi hissed between his teeth, and Marik looked sympathetic, "They're still in there."
"Yami took him back?" the blonde asked incredulously. Yugi shrugged, and followed Marik into the kitchen, sitting at the table with him.
"Seems like it. But I don't care. He can live his life," he replied. Marik smirked at him. There was a long while before either of them spoke.
"… you're jealous."
Yugi's eyes snapped up, and he glared at his boyfriend.
"I am not!" he cried as quietly as he could, "He just deserves someone better!"
"Like you."
Marik was smiling at him. Yugi had honestly not thought about this. Was he jealous? Did he want to be with Yami?
"It's okay," Marik murmured, "I understand. It's a yami/hikari thing. I'm not surprised that you're attracted to him. I have the same feelings about Malik, and Bakura, Ryou. It's completely natural, I think. He's the other half of your soul. To be honest, I thought I'd lost you to him last night. I saw you two kiss, and it looked so right… I thought he'd succeeded in stealing you away. Though I have to say, it was pretty hot… Can't say I wouldn't mind seeing it again…"
He was smirking again.
"What are you…" the smaller of the two trailed off, realizing what his koibito was getting at, and he smirked as well, "Oh, you're wicked. You can't be serious."
But Yugi knew he was.
(The words to say
The road to take
To find a way back to your heart
What can I do
To get to you
And find a way back to your heart…)
Yami rested his head on his pillow as he watched Otogi dress hastily and he sighed.
"I'm really sorry I have to leave like this," he was saying, "But I have a meeting in, like, fifteen minutes! I totally didn't watch the time!"
The teen leaned over to kiss him on the lips as he pulled on his socks.
"I'll make it up to you," he promised, "Same time tonight?"
Yami nodded, getting out of bed and throwing on a robe.
"I'll walk you to the door."
They walked together silently, and Yami knew this just wasn't right. He didn't love Otogi. He felt bad about leading his ex-lover on.
Maybe… maybe I should just tell him…
For the rest of eternity, Yami's heart would belong to just two people: Bakura and Yugi. He would never be happy with anyone else.
They kissed again before Otogi ran out to his car. Yami watched him drive off, and closed the door softly. He turned to go to his room.
He was enveloped in strong arms and pulled flush against a firm body. He gasped as he was suddenly staring into striking violet eyes.
He knew then, somehow, that his world had just changed.
::claps:: I'm so proud of myself.
This was done a while ago, but I was so unsure whether I should throw you another plot twist, that I had to hold onto it for a little while more. Not that anyone actually cares.
::shrug:: Lemon next chapter, I think you know which "pairing". Hope you're looking forward to it. I know I am ::hentai grin::
