"You worthless, arrogant-" Sethos held up a hand, stopping Isetnofret before she could start her rant.

"Calm yourself, Priestess Isetnofret." While she took a few deep breaths, he waved away the guards who had entered upon hearing her outburst. "Now what compelled you to intrude upon my chambers in such a-" He cast a scathing glance over her slightly rumpled robes. "-hasty manner?"

"I apologize, my Pharoah" she had apparently recovered her equilibrium. "But I've come to speak to you about your assistant."

"Moswen? What about him?"

"It seems a bit much to expect him to act as your Seneschal, complete his studies in both the cult of Ra and that of Osiris and to act as your body-servant, sire."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, he's about to keel over from exhaustion! Mana asked me to talk to you about this. Recently, Moswen has been having an increasingly difficult time maintaining his duties; falling asleep during ceremonies, needing constant help to keep up with the day-to-day details. Acting as the assistant to a pharoah is a full time job in and of itself, and you are making a young boy take on that huge responsibility and more."

He frowned. "I have given him no more work than what I myself went through."

"Not everyone is like you, sire. And I think you're forgetting some things."

"Such as? You are not making a very convincing argument, Isetnofret. If you do not make your point soon, I may have to consider this argument as treasonous."

"My point is you're killing the child. You have him taking on tasks that Shimon or other people would be more capable of handling. You have him doing the duties to not one god, but two."

He stood up and glared down at her. "I have absolutely no knowledge about some of the things you are talking about. I shall go and see for myself if what you say is true." For a brief moment he saw regret flash over her face, then it hardened to its usual impassivity. "As you wish, my Pharoah."

Isetnofret and Sethos found Moswen, Shimon and Mana in Mahaado's old study. Moswen had apparently been taking a nap and was woken by the crash of the vase Mana dropped when she saw him. Looking down at his aide, he noticed the dark circles under violet eyes, how thin he had gotten and other signs of stress that he had ignored before. Perhaps Isetnofret was right, although there was no reason for Moswen to have been so tired. Unless . . . "Moswen, have you been attending lessons for both the cult of Osiris and Ra?"

Moswen looked away, but Mana answered instead. "Yes, he has. I was under the impression that was your wish, sire."

Sethos scowled. Either Moswen had deliberately disobeyed him or Mana was more incompetent than he thought. Given that she had been taught by Mahaado, perhaps he was giving her too much credit in thinking she could handle this position. "No it was not. He was to be initiated into the Cult of Ra and cut his ties to the Cult of Osiris."

She looked nonplussed. "Of course, s-"

He cut her off. "On second thought, I will be teaching him myself. Since his condition went unnoticed for so long by his instructors they could hardly be considered competent."

From behind him he heard Shimon mutter, "It's not as if he noticed either and he works with him the most."

Whipping around he affixed the Seneschal with an icy glare. "Don't think I don't hold you responsible either, old man. I sent Moswen to help you, not take over your position. Although from all appearances, he does a far better job than you." From the look on their faces he had both stunned and insulted everyone, not that he particularly cared. "Moswen"

The child jumped. "Y-yes, my Pharoah?" Sethos supressed a smirk. Even though he didn't like the fact he had been disobeyed, he was impressed by the dedication it had taken to pull off what he had done and to hide it so well. He revised his impression of Moswen from spineless weakling, to spineless weakling but not without some redeeming qualities. There was certainly more to him than just those unusual eyes. He opened his mouth to give the black-haired youth more orders then changed his mind. He deserved a small respite from what he went through. "You are dismissed from your duties for the rest of the day. Catch up on your rest." With that he turned and walked out, ignoring the surprised looks he left behind him.
