Falling For The Enemy

New Friends, Old Enemies

"Oh boy..." Bakura groaned, burying his head in his arms. "This is just great."

Malik looked down at his friend. "You alright there?"

"Oh yeah. Just peachy."

"Class, I'd like to introduce Miss Akima Himura. I expect you to make her feel welcome." Shinegami-san announced before turning to Akima. "Himura-san, please, take a seat."

Akima nodded as the scanned the room for a seat. She spotted an empty chair next to a brunnette girl, and sat down. The girl immediately turned to her and introduced herself.

"Hi, I'm Anzu Masaki!" she said cheerfully, holding out her hand.

"Uh.... hi." Akima said, hesitantly shaking her hand. 'Well, she sure is friendly....' she thought. 'A little too friendly. It's kinda creepy....'

"Dude, she is hot!" Bakura overheard one of his classmates whisper to a friend. He had to admit, she wasn't unfortunate looking. The school uniform showed quite a bit of her long legs, and her long black hair hung to mid-back, aqua streaks cascading through it.

"I wouldn't mind gettin' a piece o' that, heh heh."

Bakura stared in disgust at the teenage boys. Akima was right about one thing; Men could be real assholes.

"Hey, Akima! Wait up!" Anzu called into the mass of students.

"Hmmm?" Akima turned to see the brunnette running towards her. "Oh great..." she mumbled.

"Where are you going?" Anzu asked.

"Erm... to lunch...?" Akima answered.

"Well, you're going the wrong way. The cafeteria is that way." Anzu said, gesturing in the other direction.

Akima blinked. "Oh." she said, blushing in embarrassment."Eh heh.... I guess I don't know my way around as well as I thought I did."

Anzu smiled. "It's okay, you're new. I'll take you to the cafeteria."

"Thanks."

Anzu beamed. "You can even eat lunch with me and my friends!"

"Umm... okay..." Akima reluctantly agreed.

The two of them started walking down the hall. "You're gonna love it here, I promise."

"Oh, I'm sure I will..." Akima replied.

Tyhe sounds of chatting students met Anzu and Akima's ears as they entered the noisy cafeteria.

"Ah, finally. Lunch." Akima said as she and Anzu weaved their way through the tables. "I'm starving."

"You going to buy lunch?" Anzu asked.

"Oh, no way. I brought my own." Akima said, pulling a sack out of her bookbag. "I've never trusted school food."

Anzu laughed. "Yeah, same here." she said. "Oooh, the guys are over here. Come on."

"The....guys?"

"Yeah!" Anzu led Akima to a table where four boys were sitting. "Hi guys. You remember Akima, the new girl." she said, sitting down.

"Hey there, I'm Honda!" A boy with brown, spiked hair immediately jumped up and took her hand.

"Uh...hey."

"I'm Otogi." A black-haired boy with dice earrings said, winking at her.

"Yeah..."

"And I'm Yugi." A short boy with multi-colored hair spoke up. "Nice to meet you."

"Likewise." Akima said.

Last (and definitely least, in Akima's mind) was a blonde boy, who just so happened to have mustard smeared all over his face. "Hey. The name's Jounouchi." he said, offering her a hand.

Akima wrinkled her nose in disgust, but took his hand anyway. "'Tis a pleasure. Really, it is." she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Jounouchi, however, seemed not to notice, for he just grinned and went back to eating his sandwich.

"I wonder where Ryou is..." Anzu thought aloud.

"....Ryou?" Akima questioned.

"Hey guys." A voice sounded from behind.

Akima whipped around and her eyes widened. "YOU!" she yelled.

".....M-me?" the white-haired boy asked, startled.

"You're that insensitive jerk from yesterday!"

"Uh, Ryou? What's she talking about?" Jounouchi asked, bewildered.

"I don't know...." came the confused reply.

"You've got some nerve, you know that?!" Akima kept yelling.

"Um... I'm sorry...?" Ryou said awkwardly, having no clue what he had done wrong.

"What is everyone yelling about?" A deep voice asked.

Everyone jumped and turned around, only to see Bakura and Malik standing there.

Akima's jaw dropped. "Eh... wha... how.... Oh boy." She turned to Ryou. "I am so, so sorry! I thought you were him." she said, glaring daggers at Bakura.

"Small world, ne?"

Akima glared harder at him. "Ohhh...." She then turned on her heel and stormed out of the cafeteria.

Out in the hallway, the others caught up to her.

"What was that all about?" Honda asked.

"Oh, nothing." Akima said, leaning against the wall and rubbing her temples. "Lets just say I'm glad I only have to see him at lunch."

"Umm.... Actually..." Yugi began uneasily.

'Oh God.... don't tell me...'

"He's kinda in our class, too."

Akima groaned.

"I...uh... guess you didn't see him 'cause he and Malik always sit in the back." Akima smacked the back of her head into the wall. "My life officially sucks."
