Yami had never seen such a happy child it was hard to believe that his father could be so cruel to him…much the same way with Ryou's father how anyone could hurt these two boys was beyond Yami. Yugi smiled almost everywhere he went and his smile was almost infectious to everyone around him…almost. His energetic attitude was so unlike the melancholy Ryou it was amazing that the two got along so well, but Bakura just merely took it as proof that opposites attract. But even for Yugi it was still hard to bring a smile to Ryou's lips although it was obvious that he was happy that Yugi was around something still seemed to trouble him. But at dinner Ryou ate very little, they all tried to get him to eat more, but he would only go so far before retreating to his room. Yugi sighed deeply when Ryou had left obviously disappointed.

"Yugi?" Yami asked but noticed his head was turned to where he couldn't hear him so Yami tapped him lightly on the shoulder.

"Do you know what's wrong with him? I thought he would be happy with you here now." Yami said

"He is happy as am I, but he's worried about the trial coming up soon." Yugi said

"That's not for almost three months though. Besides his father probably will not regain custody anyway…he shouldn't worry about it." Bakura said

"You're wrong, his father can easily regain custody of him." Yugi said "Especially if he doesn't say anything about what happened." Yugi said

"How long have you known him?" Yami asked

"I knew him before we met five months ago at the orphanage, we went to the same school while we still lived with our parents." Yugi said

"About the trial though, if he dose say what happened he should be in the clear." Yami said

"No, not even then. They will perform tests on Ryou to prove his father did…those things to him. But the tests will come up negative unfortunately." Yugi said

"How?" Bakura asked

"His dad wasn't stupid, he used protection every time he used Ryou. He could care less about what others did to him but he didn't leave any traces upon Ryou that he forced intercourse…and all they would have to go on is Ryou's scars and his word, most people don't really trust a thirteen year old boy, I should know." Yugi said a bit sadly

"How is it that you know all this?" Bakura asked

"The boy who raped me did the exact same thing…I couldn't prove anything and he got away." Yugi said

Bakura looked at Yami a worried expression upon his features. If what Yugi was saying was true than how were they supposed to keep Ryou safe. Bakura excused himself from the table going upstairs.

"Did I upset him?" Yugi asked

"A little, but its not your fault, that is information we will need to know and I for one am thankful." Yami said looking at Yugi

"D-did you take me in just to help Ryou?" Yugi asked

"What? No, we didn't Yugi. Our eye was turned toward you because of Ryou yes but we took you in because we felt you needed a home just as much as Ryou did…you two need each other not to mention." Yami said standing

"You like me then?" Yugi said

"Of course." Yami said

Yugi smiled brightly as he jumped into Yami's arms hugging him strongly. Yami was a little surprised by this because of Meia saying he would have a shy approach to other men but there appeared to be none at all really regardless Yami quickly returned the embrace before setting the young boy back on the ground.

"You should get ready for bed, I'll come up later to tuck you in." Yami said

Yugi flashed him another bright smile before running up the stairs.

Yugi passed Ryou's room and peeked inside noticing Ryou sitting upon the windowsill of the room.

"Ryou?" Yugi said softly so not to startle him

"Yugi? What is it?" Ryou asked

"Nothing, I just wanted to make sure you were all right is all." Yugi said taking a seat across from him

"…Fine I guess, you?" Ryou asked

"Can't complain…I thought you would be just as happy as I am to have a home though." Yugi said

"I am…but you know as well as I do that I wont be staying long." Ryou's eyes filled with tears "If he gets me again he will be even more careful than the last time, it was by pure luck that they caught him abusing me in the first place. I will never be able to escape him if he regains custody of me…I don't want to go back to him, I-I'm scared." Ryou said tears falling from his face

Yugi embraced his trembling friend as he smoothed back his hair and tried calming him down not realizing the whole time they were being watched.

"You should be afraid you little slut." Ryou's father cursed from underneath his breath noticing his son's crying from the open window he sat in.

Another man walked up behind him. "I got the information we wanted." He said handing him a few papers. "They have an alarm system and all, but nothing more really." He said

"Would you be able to decode it?" He asked

"Two seconds, after the trial with your son we will take my son from them as well." EH snorted

"Yugi is your kids name right?" Ryou's father asked

"Yes, troublesome boy…unfortunately I don't have a chance of getting him back in a trial, but I can take him away easily from these two foster parents." He said

"Hmmm, will it be that easy?" He asked looking at Yugi's father

"I'm smarter than I look okay…I can take the brat while everyone else is asleep and not even make a noise." He smiled as he glanced toward the window "Cute kid." He said looking upon Ryou

"The same goes for yours…we will have them soon enough, we just need to be patient is all." He said walking away

Yami went to check upon Ryou and noticed the two boys asleep in the windowsill wrapped in each other's arms. He hated to move them but it wasn't healthy to sleep near window on a cold night. HE gently moved them both to Ryou's bed gently so not to wake them and wrapped them in the covers together not wanting to separate them. He kissed them both on the forehead before leaving them to their dreams.

Next chapter will contain horrible nightmares from little Ryou and little Yugi ~evil grin~ I am a sucker for angst aren't I?
