Ch2 - Domino Hospital
Yami sat, forlorn, on one of the light blue metal chairs in the hospital's waiting room. The place couldn't be more bland; white sprayed the walls and floors, there were not even pictures to liven the place. The tile rang out a never-ending ring as doctors and nurses hurried from patient to patient. The smell of disinfectant flared distinctly in the entire hospital. Yami had phoned Yugi's friends earlier; they said they would be here as soon as possible.
`How could I have fallen asleep like that? I'm supposed to protect Yugi, not let him die!'
His thoughts were interrupted as three teens ran through the door. The first one through, Jou, was a goofy, spirited youth with a mop of blond hair and stunning amber eyes. His face was flushed from running, and he wore a white t-shirt, a shorter denim jacket, and old faded blue jeans and sneakers. The next one, Honda, was almost as clueless as Jou. He sports deep brown hair and shadowy gray eyes. He wore an outfit similar to Jou's. Lastly came Anzu, a spirited and bossy girl with brown hair cut at her jaw line and vibrant blue eyes. She wore a flirty pink, satin-like camisole and a deep blue skirt. All three teens stared at Yami expectantly.
“I don't know how he's doing yet,” Yami said in a low voice, his eyes downcast.
The youths were openly surprised; Yami always had strong, encouraging words in times of distress.
Anzu was the first to recover. “Don't be so hard on yourself, Yami,” she gently said. “It wasn't your fault some whacked-out woman decided to try to steal the Millennium Puzzle. He'll be alright. You'll see.”
Faintly smiling, Yami looked up and said, “I hope you're right.”
“Excuse me, but are you the one who brought Yugi in?” a doctor politely asked.
“Yes.”
“Currently, he's sleeping, so I wouldn't wake him. He has been given a blood transfusion and his gashes have been sealed and bandaged. He should be able to leave in a few days.”
Yami, Jou, Honda, and Anzu breathed an obvious sigh of relief.
“One more thing,” the doctor questioned, eyeing the youths suspiciously. “What happened to him?”
An uneasy silence hung in the air. Then Yami rose and walked up to the doctor, putting a hand to his forehead. The doctor's eyes blanked, then sharpened as the man walked off.
“Yami,” Anzu said, horrified, “What did you do?
Yami glanced at Anzu, then said, “I only took the thought from his mind, nothing more. The doctor wouldn't have believed me anyways.”
“Well, Yami,” Anzu said, “We're gonna go and let Yugi rest. You'll call if he gets worse…”
“Of course.”
The teens waved goodbye to Yami and headed back home.
Yami sighed, stood up, and decided to wait in Yugi's room for him to wake up.
