She rolled over, her body turning into his under the slightly rummpled sheets. Her arm automatically drapped itself around his waist without thought. His arms came around to circle her back in turn, his actions as instinctive as hers. She opened her eyes slightly, looking up up at his peaceful face. She wondered, in the depths of his sleep, did he dream of her as she did of him? She decided to let it go, and fell back into slumber quickly. His slow, soft breathes washing over her face as she did.
He was next to wake, serveral hours later, sunlight streaming into his eyes. He cracked one eye open, cursing the fact that the window shades were drawn up, not blocking the light as they should. He leaned over to remedy the situation, when he realized that Anzu was still nestled against his chest, her face reflecting the state of content peace she hung in. He quirked a smile. She was beautiful, in sleep, while awake, but never as beatiful as when he made love to her. He ran his fingers lazily through her hair, flicking away a few rebellious strands here and there. He lay there, content to watch her sleep. He did just that, til she woke up a few minuets later.
She peeked open one eye, then the other fully as she reconized the sight of Yami looking down at her. He tilted his head and kissed her on the forehead gently.
"Morning..." he whispered quietly. She leaned up and reciprocated the action, giving him her own good morning. Neither made no attempt to move, only laying there, letting the memory of last night catch up with them. Anzu smiled a bit, something was off a bit. There was something missing, she couldn't quiet place what...
"It's not raining!!" she cried, as she looked out the window, noticing the absence of the ever-present patter of rain. Yami looked out and nodded, before he stood and lifted the covers from them. Anzu groaned. She didn't want to move...not for the next week. She was too comfortable under the warm sheets, his body near hers. Yami pulled her out, wanting to move as much as she did.
"Move?? Already?"she openly complained. He laughed at the look on her face. He dragged her to the edge and leaned over to her.
"I know..I don't want to either..but how long do you think Jouno, Yugi, and Honda are going to stay in town? It wouldn't be too good for them to walk in on us, would it?" Anzu's eyes flew open in shock. She hopped up and began to scrammble for her clothes.
"Sweet God and Goddess! If they...and then....oh hell!" she cried, gathering up her clothes, and ran out the door, slamming it behind her. Yami stood a bit, waiting....
The door opened and she stepped back in, looking embaressed.
"Forgot this was your room, huh?" he asked, chuckling. She went red a bit.
"No..." she explained. "I just got ahead of myself..." she complained. He laughed as he collected his clothes from around the room.
She watched a bit, taking the opprotunity to examine him in full light. She had had no illusions last night. He was gorgeous, from head to foot. She smiled and he bent to pick up his shirt. He also had an ass that'd intice an angel to sin. With all his discarded clothing in hand, he pecked her on the cheek before heading to his and Yugi's room to change. With him gone, she dropped hers, and laid across the bed, sighing. The room still smelled of sex and fornification. She didn't mind...this whole week had been special. She still caught a glimpse of his collonge on the pillows. She laid there, listening as the sound of the shower turning on down the hall in the bathroom. She had the breif tempation of sneaking in there with him, but let it go. Not right now, she had to get dressed. She scounged up a top and pants, and headed down stairs to the kitchen. She'd get a shower later.
He stepped from the bathroom, hair slightly wilted from the weight of the water still in it. He tossed the wet towel into the hamper, and looked around for his newly-aquired lover. He peeked into her room and saw no sign of her, other that she had changed the sheets and disposed of any evidence of last night's events. He looked about puzzled, til he caught the bare whiff of cooking. He followed the smell downstairs and found Anzu flipping pancakes over the stove. He pulled out a chair, it's scrapping along the floor annoucing his presence. She turned and smiled at him.
"Hungry?" she asked, flipping one round flapjack into a waiting plate. She poured more batter into the skillet and began to flip it as well.
"Damn striaght." he answered back. He looked over at the growing stack on the counter. "Hey, I said I was hungry, not THAT hungry!" Anzu chuckled, she placed a few on two plates, and set them on the table, with the butter, syrup, and whipped cream.
"Of course!" she chuckled. "The rest are for the guys when they get home!" she explained. Her explainion fell to deaf ears though, Yami was too engrossed in his meal. He had become very fond of modern food. Chocolate especially. She smiled a bit, he was almost as bad as she was for chocolate on PMS. ......ALMOST as bad.
They spent the day talking and laughing. Yami wore a different attitude during this time. He smiled more, he laughed more, and was quiet affectionate. While they watched a movie, he had her sitting on his lap. When she fell asleep during said movie, he never moved once. It was slightly unnerving to him so...human. But she was under no illusion that he would continue to be this way when they weren't alone. He had an ego, as all men do, and felt some unexplainable need to be tough and macho around others. It was okay with her, she now saw the real Yami, loving, caring, and one hell of a lover. He lips quirked slightly as she bagan to eat herself.
SSSSSSKKKKKKRRRRRRRRR!!! The squeal of tires on gravel echoed through the woods. Both of them raised their heads at the chorus of slamming car doors, and the yells of their friends returning.
"They're back...: Yami observed. He silently cursed the end of their friends' sabbatical. He really didn't want all that noise back again. He quickly slipped into that well-developed mask of cool, resolute ease. In a flash he was the King of Games again. Anuzu nodded at this sudden change in a form of defeat. She was right...he would keep that cool exterior. She wouldn't say a word of it, as long as he didn't keep that same contenance when they were alone.
They walked to the back door to great the returning victors. The boys climbed out of the car, and ran straight for the pool. Three thundering splashes broke the serene silence of the early morning, the water turned muddy brown as they were washed clean of the debris that had accumulated on them in last hours. Anzu chuckled as they dragged themselves from the water, grinning broadly. Yami just smirked slightly.
"Hey, no words for the new heros of Kiruri?" Joey asked, slucing out the water and dirt from his hair. Anzu stuck out her tongue a bit.
"Hey yourself. I just washed, no way I'm getting dirty again by hugging the likes of you!" Honda helped Yugi out of his jacket as he talked.
"Hmph, some gratitude! The people of Kiruri were very grateful of our help! They even gave us a bunch of food and beer when we got everything cleared out last night."
"Last night?" Yami asked. "Why didn't you come home?" Yugi shrugged a bit.
"Well, they sortta insisted. Plus, Joey had two beers, and you know he's positively pickled after just one!" Yugi jeered. Joey leered at him, but said nothing. Anzu mused.
Just two beers. That's all it took from Joey, Honda, and Yugi coming back home and catching her and Yami in a most unpleasant position. Who knows what would have happened if Joey hadn't drank just 16 ounces of alcohol. Things could have positively been ruined. Strange how fate hung on such a delicate thread.
They left the next day, heading back for Domino City. They spent the last remaining days of vacation in their old haunts. The Turtle Shoppe, the parks, the mall, even by the school and visited some of their old teachers. Amazing how they weren't so mean looking now that they had been in college for so long.
During these days, neither Yami nor Anzu even dropped one hint at what had happened that night. The didn't hold hands any more, they sat apart, they avoided everything more than the usual banter between good friends. This left Yugi slightly baffled. Maybe he had imagined all those signs back at the cabin. He let it go.
But the trick was on him, in the shadows and secret places, Yami and Anzu made sure to have some time together. They snatched quick seconds around a corner, or a quick kiss in the back of a store. They went to great extremes to keep their secret trysts secret. They had many close calls, with Joey or Honda nearly walking in on them. But fortune was on their side, no-one suspected.
The time ran fast, and the looming approach of college came again. This meant seperation again. This was something Anzu was dreading. What if between now and summer break, Yami decided he didn't want anything to do with her anymore? Could they pull off a long distance relationship, while keeping it as secret as they could? She doubted it, and that nagging doubt left an uncomfortable knot in her stomach. What could she do but wait and see?
"Yeah, wait and see..." she muttered, slinging her satchel over her shoulder again. She was back at the train station again, Yugi, Honda, and Joey helping her get the remains of her luggage on the train. She felt her spirits drop, Yami had decided not to come with them. He didn't want to say good-bye to her. She blinked back surging tears and she hugged each guy, three of the people that had influenced her life the most, by the neck. Joey gave her a sisterly hug back, as did Yugi. Honda gave her a hearty handshake, mainly because Serentiy was there with them. It turns out that Honda and Serentiy were dating now. Honda treaded thin ice while both his girlfriend, his best friend, and girlfriend's big brother were around at the same time. One little thing that upset her, and Joey would throttle him.
"Good-bye guys, I'll see during the summer!" she called from inside the door to the car. The train whislte blowed loudly, and the conductor urged her to get to her seat. She gave on last fevered look around, seeing if by some miracle, Yami would come and say good-bye. She saw nothing as the door closed her off from her friends as the scene of the bustling train station began to move away. She stuck her head out the window and gave on last farewell wave as the three men were swallowed up by the crowds.
She went to her seat, swiping angrily at stray tears that rolled down her cheeks. Yami hadn't even said good-bye. I guess I was stupid to think it would have worked out... she thought. She found her window-seat. She placed her bag up on the raling above, and scooted past the passenger in the aisle-side seat with a half-hearted "excuse me". The man gave a slight grunt, not even lowering the paper he held up to conceal his face. She slumped into the seat and sighed.
"Not even good-bye? After what happened that night? Did that not mean anything to him?" she asked the air around her, softly. She propped her arm on the window and then her head on her hand. She let the scenery of the thinning city-scape run blanky across her mind. She kept running thoughts through her mind. Her thoughts were interupted constantly by a couple kissing passionately in the seats behind her. Of all the things to be stuck with on THIS train......
"I can't say I hate them...even thought I want to." she sighed. "Should I begrudge anyone love and happiness when the guy I thought loved me never said good-bye?" The man beside her turned a few pages in hsi paper. She waited til he was done before going on.
"Yami....I guess I was wrong. So much for giving yourself to the one you love...." she held back a tear, and sighed. She became shocked when a stange hand cupped ehr chin gently, and turned her head away from the window.
"Hey, I'm not that bad now, am I?" Yami asked. Aznu blinked, then gasped. Yami had been sitting in the seat beside hers all the time, with a three-week old paper covering his face! Her eyes went wide as saucers as he smiled slightly.
"Yami...how did...when did -? Why are you here??" she asked. Yami folded up the paper and shrugged.
"I just heard this route was the shortest one to Ha'an University, that's all." he said. Ha'an?, her mind asked.
"That's the school I go to!" she cried. Yami reached under hsi seat and pulled out a folder of papers, and handed them to her.
"Coincidence I supose." he chuckled. She leafed through the documents.
"Transfer papers??" she inquired. He just nodded. She looked at him, then at the papers, and nearly burst into tears.
"Yami, why?" she asked, her voice on the edge of trembling. He put on hand behind her shoulders and pulled her head to his.
"Tell me, what do you think?" he asked. He had come with her, to stay with her. This relationship menat something to him after all. She meant something to him. She smiled and nodded her head before reaching out and hugging him. He hugged her back immeadiately. For a second they stayed that way, before she pulled back.
"What about the others??" she asked. Yami smiled, and tapped his head.
"Already taken care of...the e-mail should be reaching their accounts in a few minuets. It explains everything." he assured her. She msiled, and bent over, ready to kiss him......then nearly got knocked from her seat.
"What??" she asked. The back of her seat jerked again as one of the couple in the seats behind them kicked her seat-back in absentminded passion. She rubbed her head and glared.
"Stupid..." she cursed softly. Yami looked between their seats at them, and growled. She looked around her seat at them. They had failed to use the privacy curtain on their compartment. Yami looked at them for a while longer, then grinned wolfishly. She pulled her head away and leered at her.
"What say we give them some competition?" Anzu's eyes lit up in mischeif. She nodded eagerly, and leaned over, pushing his lips into hers with a burning pressure. Yami gladly reciprocated, and thus they began.
