Chapter 11

The Chimera's Seed

---------

“Would you stop following me?” Jeto demanded to the auburn haired teen, trailing closely behind him. “For the hundredth time, I'm not gay!”

A few pedestrians looked up from the outburst. It wasn't the fact that Jeto said `gay' it was just his tone of voice.

Jeto blushed and continued walking.

Tet still followed behind with a smug look on his face. “I know you're not gay. I just want to make sure you make it home safely.”

The younger teen shot a glare over his shoulder at Tet. “I'm quite capable of taking care of myself. And further more, have you ever thought I didn't want you to know where I live?”

Tet smirked. “I already know where you live. Everyone knows where the Kaibas live. It's somewhat obvious. Your mansion stands above all other mansions.” He pointed to a blue-tented manor in the distance, overlooking the neighborhood.

Jeto snorted. “Okay, fine! As soon as I get home, you better be gone.”

“I promise,” the older teen awkwardly grinned.

“You better.” Jeto stared at the ground, contemplating if he could outrun Tet. It likely wasn't possible. Tet had longer legs, so it'd give him a better advantage of catching up to him. There was something eerie about the other teen. It made Jeto nervous and that's why he wanted to escape from his stalker. Other than that, he would have been flattered. He stopped in his tracks, his ears twitching violently. Something was approaching and at an implausible speed.

Tet had stopped a couple feet away, noticing the young teen's ears flipping every which direction and then flattening against his head. /He's irritated about something. If it were I, he would have attacked me already. / “Jeto?” An eerie silence filled the air. Birds had stopped chirping and the voices of people had stop echoing through the city. The wind gave a long, heavy whistle as it scattered leaves and sheets of paper in front of Jeto's path.

Jeto tensed. A shadowed figure was approaching them, slower than he was earlier. The teen could sense that this stranger was running earlier. There was no mistake in it. He let out a soft growl, warning the foreigner that he should keep his distance.

The stranger didn't heed. He still kept approaching in a slouched, threatening style.

The atmosphere grew thick with the scent of blood. It made Jeto nervous, causing him to slouch in the same manner as the stranger. “I'm warning you again,” he growled. “Back off!”

Tet narrowed his eyes at the individual. He could see from a distance that it wasn't a normal human. It was another teen, no older than Jeto. However, this teen had black fur covering him from head to foot. A hood from a cape he was wearing covered the top of his face. “Why hide your identity?” Tet whispered to no one in particular.

The wind blew harder this time, blowing the hood away from the foreigner's face.

Both Tet and Jeto gasped in shock.

It was a being like Jeto, only with the face of a black panther and crimson eyes.

“It's a Chimera!” Tet exclaimed.

Jeto turned his head toward Tet, his eyes widening in comprehension. “I thought…but it's a human, like me!”

Tet shook his head reluctantly. “It WAS a human, Jeto. Do you know what they call beings like you who only have parts of an animal?” He asked, not trying to sound dismayed.

The young teen shook his head solemnly, hating where this conversation was going.

“You're a Seed, Jeto. You're the beginning of a Chimera's cry.” Tet lunged forward, after noticing the Chimera's charge at Jeto. He blocked the creature's attack by extracting a metal ball from his pocket and throwing it at the animal's face. The ball split open like a spider with sharp tendrils, stabbing into its neck, and killing it instantly.

Jeto fell to his knees, covering his eyes from the sight. He murmured something under his breath, but loud enough to hear. “I know what you are. You're a Chimera Slayer. I've heard about you on the news.” He lowered his hands to the ground, tears falling beside his thumbs and on top of his right hand. “I didn't want to believe that I could become that. W-why do we change into these…things?”

Tet sighed as he retracted the metal, spider ball from the Chimera's neck and placed it back into his pocket. “Not all of you change into Chimeras. Most of you don't have a single hint of ever changing into one of these monsters.”

“…but…how do they change?” Jeto asked brokenly.

Tet was silent for a moment. “Being rejected by family, being abused, or worse, losing someone dear to them.” He chuckled lightly. “You don't have to worry about that, right? Your family loves you dearly. They wouldn't dream of abusing you. All you have to worry about is losing someone you love very dearly.”

Jeto looked up at the older teen, seeing a warm smile upon his face. /What a pretty smile, / he thought.

“Come on! Let's get you home.” Tet reached out a hand for Jeto to grasp.

The young teen accepted the help and both walked side by side down the sidewalk.

“Oh, before we go any farther.” Tet reached into his coat to bring out a cellular phone from his inner pocket. He dialed a few numbers and waited. “Yeah, Buck? I found that black Chimera. Yep, it was in the park as Evan had said. Yeah, you're goin' to have to pick it up. It's on the walkway beside the big fountain. Okay, cool! Later!” He hung up the phone and replaced it into his inner pocket.

“Tet?” Jeto started.

“Yeah?”

“Is that why you came with me? You were going to kill me?”

Tet's eyes widened in shock. He was lost for words. How was he to tell the kid that he was? He had been in the park searching for that black Chimera. However, when he saw this kid he almost thought it `was' the black Chimera because of Jeto's black ears and tail, but somehow he had fallen for the kid at first sight and wasn't sure if he could kill him. Moreover, just because he was mostly human, didn't mean he wasn't dangerous or could change into a Chimera at will. It was a rare occasion, but it has happened a time or two. He nodded reluctantly. “Y-yeah…I would have…if it hadn't of appeared like it did. However, I don't think I could have killed you anyways.”

“Why's that?” Jeto asked curiously.

“Heh, let's just say you're `not gay'.” Tet chuckled.

Jeto smirked. “That's right, and don't you forget it!” He stared at the ground losing his scoff with a frown. “How dangerous can they get?”

“It depends,” Tet replied. “They're usually at minimal for us slayers, but I can say the most dangerous ones I've met are the ones that lose their loved ones in death.”

“Like illness?”

“No, like being killed by another Chimera or human. Nothing makes them more outraged. It doesn't work that way with illness.”

“Why's that?”

Tet smiled thoughtfully. “You can't stop illness from killing someone…not all the time. What's the point of being angry at something you can't control?”

Jeto stared at Tet with intense fascination. How could he have so much knowledge of Chimeras? Well, of course he would have to know about them if who ever trained him to kill the Chimeras, but Tet carried a profound, sorrowful tone that sounded as if he'd always regret something from his past. “I-I'm sorry,” he whispered.

Tet blinked and then smiled. “What for?”

“I don't know. I'll know eventually though.” Jeto closed his eyes in deep thought. “When you feel like telling me.”

Tet laughed and left it at that.

---

From the top of the shadowed trees, one pale, violet eye, the other blind, secretly observed the two teens walking along side each other. He let out a soft growl. “That slayer has killed his last Chimera! I'll make sure he suffers like my faithful servants had.”

A female voice laughed menacingly from behind her cousin. “Dear, Osiris. Tet is the best Chimera Slayer to live in Domino. What makes you so sure you can destroy him?”

Both figures leaped from the tree onto the sidewalk. The male had sandy, white hair, styled like Yami Marik's. His skin was darkly tanned, stood 5'9, had one pale, violet eye, and the other blinded from being stabbed by an inking needle. He had two black, upside-down arched tattoos at the corners of his eyes, wore a black, hooded belly shirt, black, gray, and white camou pants, and a pair of black army boots. Two white lion ears replaced his human ears and a tail wrapped around his waist for a belt. “That's never stopped me before, Hasunuma. I already know what I can use to my advantage.” He slyly grinned.

The girl had long black hair, braided and placed in a bun on top of her head. She had a strand of her hair decorated in golden beads and dangling by her cheek. She wore similar clothes as Osiris', except her shirt didn't have a hood, instead was cut in a v at her chest. She didn't have any animal parts, and she only stood an inch shorter than her cousin did. “You disgust me cousin. If you think I'm going to help you with this, you're terribly mistaken. I don't fight dirty,” she replied distastefully.

“You don't have to, Hasunuma. I can do this on my own.” Osiris turned away from her and headed toward the city. “And don't expect me to call for your help.”

“…but you do need help, my cousin,” she whispered. “What happened to my sweet little cousin?” She turned in the opposite direction and walked away with a shake of her head.
