One Last Breath
A/N: Sorry it took me so long to write these last…few chapters. -sighs- I've been trying to figure out how to stick with the main characters from the show and then also have the same amount of activity with my OCs. It gets harder as I go. ;-; And now, I present to you the first song-fic to this story.
Jonouchi-Kaiba-Mokie: XD It wouldn't be much fun if I didn't have Tet struggle, now would it?
Crystal56: ROFL!
Anubiset: Soon…I hope. O.o' By the way. Did you receive your prize?
Koalared and Crosshunt-s: Updated!!! Lol!

Please come now I think I'm falling
I'm holding to all I think is safe
It seems I found the road to nowhere
And I'm trying to escape
I yelled back when I heard thunder
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say
Let me say

It seems I found the road to nowhere
And I'm trying to escape

“When are ya comin' back to work, Tet?” Evan asked. He leaned against a fiberglass wall patiently, speaking into a screen phone, and watching his old friend sign ownership papers just to shove them aside. “We miss ya at work, man. And the chimeras are getting' out of hand.”
Tet acted as if he was ignoring his x-co-worker as he continued to sign the papers. He then paused and peered up at the screen. “You all will just have to suffer without me. I'm not coming back, Evan. I have other things to deal with.”
Evan frowned, evidence that he was a bit irked by Tet's new and less improved attitude. “Like what? It's not as if ya'r old man is dead yet. Who knows? He'll probably be alive until he's a hundred.” He blinked when he realized that his tone carried a heavy shun. “Oh…man. I didn't mean it, Tet!”
The auburn haired man bit back a smirk and stared at the screen with annoyance. “This conversation is over, Evan. Goodbye!”
“But…” Evan was abruptly cut off from the screen. He cursed under his breath for his inanity. “Those damned CEO lecturers turned him into a jerk!”

“I'll just have to take care of the old man myself then.” Tet gazed at the pen in his hand until it snapped in half from his taut grip. Ink splattered onto his coat and the papers lying on his desk. He reached over to the receiver and pushed a button. “Kellie, please have the cleaners come in here in a little bit.”
A soft feminine voice replied from the other end, sounding stunned. “Uh…y-yes, sir!”
He stood up from his seat and placed his coat on the back of it. He then approached the office doors. As soon as he opened them, he was greeted by Bakura and Mokuba.
Both men stared at him perplexed. Mainly concentrating on the tight, pink muscle shirt he was wearing.
“What?” Tet asked irritably.
Bakura cleared his throat. “Seto has sent me to inform you that he doesn't need you to take care of his office anymore. The physicians have found the virus and eliminated it. He should be back on his feet in a few days.”
Tet dryly smiled. “Is that so? Maybe I should pay him a visit.”
Mokuba glowered at the younger man. “That was a snide remark for your own father.”
“So what's it to you?” Tet boasted as he brushed past them and strolled down the hall.
Mokuba fisted his hands until he could feel the thin nails sink into his palms, causing them to release small droplets of crimson. “He may be my brother's son, but he doesn't deserve to be heir.”
“He won't be around long enough to see the rise of a new leader,” Bakura mused loudly.
Mokuba blinked. “Bakura! What made you say that?”
Bakura smirked furtively. “I just have this gut feeling.”

I'm looking down now that it's over
Reflecting on all of my mistakes
I thought I found the road to somewhere
Somewhere in His grace
I cried out heaven save me
But I'm down to one last breath

It was March and the one week that Tet had been waiting for. He had been anxious to see the “Mid-night Chimera Tournament.” It was different from the morning tournaments, because the chimeras would alter into their animal forms and go at it full force, ripping each other to shreds. Just the mere sight of the chimera's blood caused Tet's adrenaline to pump. To him, it was like sex. You could only get it when your partner was willing. This monthly activity was too hard to pass up.
At one time, in Tet's life, he never found these tournaments to be exciting. He always thought they were vile and inapt to the chimera's well being. It was also a way to earn money in bets. Now, it was a way to release the weight off his shoulders for a short period of his life.
As he approached the gates to the stadium, he could feel the atmosphere thicken with excitement and rage from the ready chimeras and audience. He stood at the ticket booth, presenting his voucher for one of the boxed seats that overlapped the arena from a safe distance.
“You must be Tet Kaiba,” the young teen, clerk announced. “I expected you to be a little older.”
Tet smirked. “You must be new here.” He observed the teen's body closely, and hungrily. The boy resembled Sugoroku, only taller and black hair. “Do you have a girlfriend?” He asked bluntly.
The clerk blushed and shook his head. “Uh…no sir. I'm gay actually.” His blush deepened.
“Really? What's your name?”
The teen shuffled his feet nervously as he gazed at the older male's sinister eyes. “Err…Miho Kagurazaka.”
Tet leaned forward until he could almost taste the teen's lips. “When are you on break?”
Miho smiled. “As soon as the tournament begins.”
“Good! Come to my booth then.” Tet grinned and planted a small kiss on the side of Miho's cheek.

Tet watched as a male announcer, no older than the clerk was, stepped into the stadium, one chimera on his right and left. “Good evening ladies and gentlemen! I, Doric, will be your announcer for tonight. Now, we bring you our newest contestants! On my left, we have Race, the hawk! On my right, we have Bandit, the raccoon!” He allowed the audience to carry on with their applauding and then continued. “On the count of three the battle will begin!”
No later had the announcer finished the count down to three had Miho sat down beside Tet. “It's cool, huh?”
“Yes, it actually makes me feel better to see these beasts tear each other's throats out,” Tet smirked. “However, I have other interesting things that I think you'll find `cool'.” He reached over to the teen and pressed their lips together. He was received a moan and then two arms around his neck for acceptance.
Miho opened his mouth to allow Tet inside, but then felt a pressure against his chest. “What?” He blinked when the other's expression became exasperated.
“You're not a virgin, are you?” Tet sat back against his seat and returned to watching the battle at hand. “I don't want to take you if you're not a virgin.”
“No, I'm not.” Miho lowered his head in humiliation. “But why do I have to be?”
The man smirked. “They're more interesting.”
“I see,” Miho sighed. “Well, I guess I better leave then.” He stood up and then paused. “Why do you think `they're more interesting'?”
Tet glanced at the teen for an instant and closed his eyes. “No one has ever asked me that before. I guess it's how they react. When they're scared, you can comfort them, and when they're surprised you can laugh at them to make them feel silly. Of course, when I was a virgin, all I experienced was pain and fear.”
“Why's that?”
“I was raped.”

The battle ended with the hawk as the victor.
The raccoon slowly made his way from the arena to seek medical attention.
Doric was back in the middle of the arena and complimenting the feathered chimera. “What an amazing fighter. Not a single scratch.” He waited for the crowd once again to stop cheering. “Our next opponent you know quite well. He used to fight during the day, but now has taken the opportunity to kick some major ass in the night!”
“Did you always get raped?” Miho asked gravely.
Tet shook his head. “It only happened when one of my pops' friends came over for a visit. His name was Valon. When my pops left me alone with him, he'd always take advantage of me and threaten me not tell anybody. It lasted for five years and I finally couldn't take it anymore. I had to tell someone. So, I told my pops and he took care of it.” He grinned sadistically. “By putting Valon in prison for the rest of his life…with all those horny barbarians.”
Miho let a small smile slip from his lips. “I'm sorry that happened. I'm also sorry for asking.”
Tet shrugged. “I'd have to tell someone someday.” He leaned his head to the side as he started to remember a lone, black cat that seemed to be begging for attention a year ago. “If only I could have him. He'd be all I've ever wanted,” he murmured.
“What did you say?” Miho blinked.
Tet shook his head. “Nothing. I was just thinking aloud to myself.”

A black figure leapt onto the stadium as the young commentator announced the next challenger. “Jeto, the black cat!”
Tet winced from the name and peered out the window to see the said cat. “J-Jeto?”
“Whoa! No way,” Miho gasped. “Jeto is the most famous chimera fighter!” He squeaked when Tet pushed him aside and vanished out the door.
Tet tore out of the box room to reach the stadium. “I have to see…too make sure…” He held back the hoping tears springing to his eyes. “Jeto…” His breath caught into his chest as he gazed at the familiar black feline standing on the right side of the stadium, gazing at the hawk across from him.

Jeto let out a loud hiss as he took an impatient step toward the raptor.
Doric immediately jumped from the ring as he shouted three, starting the battle.
Race unfolded his wings as he lunged into the air, avoiding the sharp outstretched claws from Jeto. He screeched as he dove toward the cat, his talon feet extended. “You're going down pussy cat!”
Jeto let out a cat growl and dodged the sharp tendrils. “We'll just see!” He got down on all fours and started to run to the other end of the ring, Race right behind him in the air. He abruptly stopped and lied flat against the ground, the hawk's talons barely missing his head. “Surprise!” He quickly got to his feet and leapt onto the bird's back, forcing him to plummet toward the marble floor.
Race flipped himself to where the cat would hit first. “Too bad for you, I'm more talented in the sky!”
Jeto's eyes widened in shock as his back hit the marble floor with a loud crack along with his skull.
Race rolled off his body to analyze the cat's situation. He frowned as he watched Jeto roll onto his side and gradually get to his hands and knees.

Just as soon as Jeto looked up, the hawks talons scraped across his face harshly. The force sent him flying across the ring and then rolling the rest of the way. He dangled over the edge, staring impassively at a blurred figure. “I've…lost?”
“No… You have to get up…Jeto…” Tet reached out to touch the cat's hand, to give him reassurance, but Race hastily dragged the cat away before he could even make contact.
“…don't…” Tet breathed. Why did he all of a sudden realize that this was a death match, if chosen? He had always known this was a death match though, but somewhere deep inside it was as if his previous self was reawakening, gathering the lost memories that he had always forgotten.

Jeto winced when the claws wrapped themselves around his neck and sunk into his flesh.
“Too bad putty tat. You're dead!” Race sneered and flung Jeto's body like it was a wadded up piece of paper.
The teen hit the marble once again, sputtering on his blood. His pain was intense, but the vision he saw before Race tossed him away was much more concentrated. Moreover, the aroma of the figure was familiar. “T-Tet?” He slowly got to his knees and stared at the audience who were crying, fearing for his life. They repeatedly chanted his name. He listened and smiled weakly. “No…I can't…lose…”
“I'll make sure you will!” Race screeched and leapt into the air, his claws ready to stab the cat in the back…to finish it.
Tet hurriedly climbed onto the stadium and stood in the hawk's path, blocking the attack with his own body. “I won't let you!” He gasped as the talons easily went through his chest and into his lungs.
Race pulled away and stared flabbergasted at the human, that held his bleeding chest, and coughed uncontrollably. He wrapped his wings around himself, feeling affronted. “Stupid human.”
Jeto looked over his shoulder at the man who saved him. “Tet!” He ambled to the injured body and kneeled in front of him. “Tet, what are you doing?”
“Saving you…stupid.” Tet smirked as he fell forward in Jeto's arms and fainted.
Jeto altered into his human form and held the man close to him. “Tet…”
“You give up then?” Race asked, observing Jeto's human form.
“…yes.” Jeto responded reluctantly.
Race sneered. “You realize that you're giving up the `Winner of the Year' trophy?”
“It's not worth losing a loved one for a dumb trophy! I need to get him help!” Jeto glared at the hawk from over his shoulder. “You're lucky that I don't kill you on the spot!”
“Like you could.” The hawk laughed as he walked away from the two mangled bodies.
“I could if I had wanted,” Jeto whispered with aggravation.
