Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh. If I did ... I would be one happy person right now.

Two weeks later...

Ryou stood alone in a dark alley, staring into the oppressive darkness ahead. Not knowing why, he ventured forward. Every instinct was screaming at him to turn around and never return, but he ignored it. At that moment, someone made a small whimper of pain. It had come from the shadows in front of him. Ryou strained to hear more, but no more sounds were heard ... except those coming from the mouth of the alley. Calming his racing heart, he proceeded further in.

"Is anyone there?"

The white-haired teen felt foolish calling out into the shadows, but if someone were injured, he would want to help them ... wouldn't he? The sound came again, making Ryou jump. He chided himself before glancing back to the safety of the light pouring in from the alley's opening.

A pair of pale hands reached out and caught the frightened teen's arm. Ryou yelped suddenly and was spun around to meet the face of his tormentor. He gasped as Bakura materialized from the shadows. He grinned like the maniac he was as his eyes lit up with recognition.

Bakura sneered at his hikari with contempt. "You." He managed to spit out. He tugged on Ryou's arm, pulling both of them further into the alley.

As he studied his lighter half's useless struggle, Bakura smiled. It felt like the old days had returned. He wouldn't harm Ryou today though. He only wished that today's game of choice hadn't been 'Cat and Mouse', then he would've been able to inflict pain on the teen for catching him. Instead he allowed Ryou to free himself from his grasp. As he watched Ryou turn and flee he called out.

"Darkness will always conquer the light." He then laughed as he disappeared.

Ryou ran as fast as he could before stopping to catch his breath. He watched with envy as other citizens of Domino City strolled about. They didn't have to worry about a malevolent spirit bothering them. All of a sudden everything faded away with the shrill ringing of his alarm clock.

Ryou woke with a start. He glanced over to the Millennium Ring and shuddered recalling what the dream-Bakura has said. 'Darkness will always conquer the light.' He shook the thought and the rest of the dream from his mind as he sat up in his bed. He moved slowly as he stood and then remembered he had school.

As he moved quickly to ready himself for the day ahead he picked up the Ring and slipped it over his head.

\Yami,\ He questioned, not really expecting a reply. He held his breath and exhaled when no response came.

Feeling foolish of the act, Ryou opened his bedroom door and proceeded to continue to prepare for his departure. He touched the Ring briefly, recalling the meeting he had had with Yugi. This had been a couple of weeks ago when he was almost driven to take his own life to end the suffering Bakura had put him through. At the last moment he had backed down and told Yugi what had been going on. Yugi, to put it mildly, was appalled at what his friend had gone through. It was then and there that Yugi promised Ryou he would help and he had.

He had called on the Puzzle's spirit and the three of them had come up with a temporary solution to Ryou's problem. The spirit had then proceeded to banish Bakura's presence from the Ring and erect a barrier so that he could not return.

Ryou had been grateful to Yugi afterwards and barely heard the warning given to him. The warning was to keep the Ring off at all times. Ryou had followed this advice for five days before he started wearing the Ring again. What was the harm? It had hurt his father's feelings to not see the Ring around his son's neck where it belonged. Bakura was gone so where was the danger?

Bakura had pulled back just in time. His light once again tried 'talking' to him. He had heard the boy alright, but couldn't answer as he was still technically banished due to the meddling spirit of the Puzzle, but he was steadily breaking down the barrier that prevented him from entering the Ring and finding solace in his soul room. He knew that Ryou hadn't paid attention to the spirit's warning and that was why he was back.

While he couldn't physically harm his vessel yet, he had been sending the youth visions using the boy's own subconscious dreams. If the fool kept wearing the Ring, he would be back in no time at all. It would be Ryou's own fault if this were to happen. The beatings would continue. Grinning like the maddened creature he was ... he sat back and bided his time away until the barrier fell.
