Just when you think things can't possibly get any better, somehow life had a way of surprising you. At least, that's what happened in Maximillion Pegasus's little world. His business was booming because of the game he had re-invented. Not only that, he had come into possession of as very valuable magical item: the Millennium Eye. He had been more than willing to sacrifice his perfect vision in order to control that power. A power that was beyond comprehension and seemingly beyond limit. So as it stood, Pegasus was young, rich, healthy, and basically all-powerful. Life was good. Good except for one little problem. A tiny problem that could be dealt with easily. But only tiny if you considered the largest multi-million dollar technology corporation tiny.

That company was known as Kaiba Corporation. Its technology had always been extremely cutting edge. But as of late, their newest innovations bordered on the impossible. Other companies and businessmen would give their right arm just to hold stock in the company. Anyone who was anyone important wanted a piece of the action. Either they tried to join in or if that failed, secretly try to take over. Thus far, proposals were dealt with quietly, and poorly executed attempts at takeovers were put down swiftly. Companies that attempted the later method were quickly put out of their misery, buried by the brilliant mind of Gozaburo Kaiba.

Supposedly, the man was a genius. And, supposedly, he had an even more brilliant mind sitting under wraps somewhere. Rumor had it that he was hiding the most brilliant technological mind in centuries. He was hiding the man who was directly responsible for Kaiba Corps rocketing prophets.

That was who Pegasus was really interested in. The company meant nothing if he got a hold of the technical genius hiding behind the scenes. Finding that man and getting him to work for him was the number one thing on his things to do list. Which is what brought him to the door of possible the second largest house he had ever seen. Frankly, he wasn't very impressed by it. Then again, the largest house he had ever seen was his own castle. Literally a castle, sitting on his own private island. Quietly, he reached forward to ring the doorbell.

The door opened immediately. Pegasus couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. The number one businessman in the world loomed over him like a God. Which is basically what Gozaburo Kaiba was. A god of the business world. He was much larger and much scarier than Pegasus had first anticipated. He wondered if he made the same kind of impression. Still in his very early twenties, Maximillion Pegasus was definitely someone to be impressed by. He had chosen his favorite suit. It might have been rose colored, but it was perfectly tailored, accenting his long white hair and his slender build. He had made sure his special eye remained carefully concealed behind that fall of white.

Gozaburo glared at him. “Another person who doesn't know the meaning of the word no.”

Pegasus smiled. The other man might be unfriendly, but that didn't mean he had to be a jerk as well. “I have no idea what your talking about, sir. The members of the board were the ones that said I should meet with you.” Which was entirely true. The board members of the Kaiba Corporation thought Pegasus was a prime candidate for something. What that something was remained as much of a mystery as the men themselves. When they had contacted him, they had remained cloaked in shadow. The secrets didn't bother Pegasus. They all had their secrets, himself included.

The hard glair never seemed to leave him as he was ushered through the house. As they walked, Pegasus tried to memorize the surroundings. Soon, he found it impossible. There was nothing to remember. Just blank walls and closed doorways. There was an uncomfortable silence that rolled throughout the house. The only sounds were hollow footsteps in even more hollow halls. Pegasus already wanted to leave. He hated being in places like this. Places that obviously saw no joy. No laughter.

The silence was broken. But instead of being grateful, it made Pegasus even more nervous. “I realize that that board thinks your special. I personally don't see it. You are like all the others, boy. No different from anyone else. And like everyone, you have your own reasons for coming here today.” The man opened a door. It led to a sparse office. Pegasus was assaulted by more of that rigid coldness. It came from everywhere.

He started to sit down when that cold voice stopped him. “Did I say you could sit, boy?” Then the man sat behind his desk. Even seated, the man retained that coldness. He still had the aura that made Pegasus want to shake. Somehow, the man seemed to stare down at him even when his own head was much higher. “So what is it you want from this meeting, boy?”

Being called boy was slowly getting on his nerves. It was degrading for one. He forced himself to keep calm. He had to because he was already considering the immense joy of brushing his hair away from his hidden eye and putting the cold man in his place. But he didn't. He couldn't just steal Gozaburo Kaiba's soul and lock it into a card. You couldn't steal what wasn't there.

“I was hoping to come to some sort of agreement in regards to accessing your technology.”

The large man folded his hands and looked over them. “And what would I get in return?” But before Pegasus could answer the man had continued. “You see, I've done my research on you, boy. What use do I have for a card game? Yes, I can agree that it is quite popular now, but times change. Trends go out of stile quickly. As it stands, you have nothing to offer me, boy. In view of this, my answer is no.” The chair spun away from him, effectively ending the meeting.

Pegasus glared at the back of the chair, his single crimson eye twitching in anger. “You wouldn't be so cocky if you knew what I was capable of.” He muttered. He started to step forwards when that cold voice stopped him again. “I'll assume you can find your own way out. You're a good boy, Pegasus, but you're still a boy. You have a lot to learn about the ways of business if you want to get anywhere. Good day to you.” There was a dismissive wave of the hand. The entire time, the chair remained facing away from him.

Pegasus turned and left the room. He heard the door slam shut when he was already halfway down the hall. The loud noise made his jump. The brief meeting had done more to him then bruise his ego. It had left him feeling cold and empty. That emptiness made his nerves go on edge. Being alone in this house only made it worse. Pegasus would give anything to be at home right now. Home, drinking his favorite wine and watching his favorite cartoon. He needed a good laugh after this.

His hollow footsteps were his only companion on his long trek back to the front door. The silence was oppressive, which is why a soft voice from behind the door he just passed had been such a shock. “Your turn, Seto.” Pegasus had assumed that he had been the only other person in the house. The man he had just left didn't seem to relish company. Curiosity got the better of him. Besides, the door was already half open.

Quietly he peeked through the crack. He blinked and looked again. He couldn't believe his eyes. Two young boys sat in the room. The only other thing in the room was a chessboard. The boys seemed to ignore the emptiness. The younger of the two watched the elder with adoring eyes. "I said, it's your turn, big brother.”

The older boy is what really held his attention. Slender in build, the boy would one day be almost as tall as him. The boy held great promise. Not just the promise of height. He would be very handsome. That was obvious. As it was, the child was pretty, in a boyish sort of way. Unlike his younger brother, his hair was short and light brown. His bangs fell forwards just enough to touch his eyes. Those eyes were what really captivated Pegasus. He had never seen eyes so blue. Those eyes were fastened to the board, a look of extreme concentration in them. It was a rather cute look, especially when Pegasus saw that the boy had the tip of his tongue sticking out. The boy reached forwards. His hand paused for a second. Then it traveled back to his mouth. It was another cute gesture. The boy started to chew on his knuckle as he thought.

Pegasus silently entered the room. He wanted to get closer to this boy. The closer he got, the more he liked what he saw. That scared Pegasus to no end. Scared him more than the meeting ever did. Not because he felt attracted. He had come to terms long ago with the fact that he was attracted to other men. The thing that bothered him was that fact that he was already lusting after this little boy. He wanted to hold the boy. Kiss him. Sweep him with away in moments of unrestrained passion. And that's what frightened him. Because it was wrong. Totally wrong, because beautiful Seto was still a child. The kid couldn't be more than twelve. Pegasus might have been a lot of things, but he refused to add child molester to the list.

The boy slowly reached out again, and triumphantly moved a single pawn. By the look of the board, the game had started just before he had arrived at the door. The boy confirmed that a second later. “Four moves.” He muttered. Pegasus smiled. The boy had a calm voice. Not cold and hard at all. Calming and beautiful. There was a ghost of a smile on his face. That was a relief. Pegasus didn't think there was much smiling in the house.

Carefully, he cleared his throat. Maybe he would learn who this little angel of a boy was. All he knew was the boy's first name. First name wasn't much to go on. And the company never mentioned Gozaburo having children. “Hello.” He started. The boy looked up with those piercing eyes. The smile vanished as if it had never been there. In fact, the boy looked afraid.

“There's no need to be scared little one.” He continued. “I just wanted to ask you something.” The kid had moved in front of his younger sibling. It was a clearly protective gesture. Despite the courageous move, the terror was evident. Numbing fear shown in those icy eyes. The child's body actually started to shake. Yet, Seto continued to stare. Not at him. The boy was staring past him. There was something horrible behind him.

Pegasus again started forward, trying to seem less threatening. A rough hand stopped his movement. It clamped down so hard on his shoulder it hurt. The white haired man knew he'd have bruises because of it. He winced in spite of himself as the hand turned him around roughly, bringing him face to face with a very angry man.

Gozaburo Kaiba glowered at him. That moneveloent look moved from him to the boys. If it were possible, his cold eyes seemed to get colder. Then it swept back to him. “You should be long gone by now, boy.” The businessman tried to drag him out. Pegasus refused to move. He had been manhandled enough for one day. The cold look became murderous. He glared back with his one good eye. A sharp intake a breath and a barely audible whisper interrupted the stare down.

“Please stop.” The voice shook, yet it was slowly gaining courage and intensity. “Don't hurt him. The poor fool got lost, that's all.” Pegasus turned. The boy was standing. His small hands were in balls at his sides. They shook in his fear. But his eyes were no longer frightened. They were cold. Ice cold. Colder than anything Pegasus had ever seen. How a child could have such cold eyes was beyond him. Pegasus didn't want to admit it, but he found the coldness radiating from this boy very frightening and very very sexy. The kid no longer looked twelve. That look gave the child an older appearance. For a second, Pegasus got a glimpse into the future, into the man this boy might one day become.

“Seto!” The Kaiba Corp CEO barked. “Did I give you permission to speak!”

“No sir.” The boy looked down, behaving like a well-trained dog. But his words weren't at all cowed. “But... but.... It's not his fault. So just.. So just leave him alone, okay?”

“We'll discuss this later, Seto.” Those words sent a warning signal to Pegasus's brain. Something terrible would probably happen to this angel for trying to stand up for him. It made him feel awful. More terrible than the hand trying to once more remove him from the room. Pegasus went willingly. Anything, if he could help out the boy. “Come along, Pegasus. Let me show you the door.” He took one last glance at the boy before the man slammed the door shut.

“Cute kids.” He commented lightly. “Never figured you for a father.” It was true. The man wasn't very forthcoming about the children. In fact, he wouldn't say anything. Unusual for a father. Usually, doting dads never stopped talking about their children. Pegasus was certain the boys weren't Gozaburo's. He could sense a distinct lack of fatherly feeling towards them, “Adopted?” He prompted.

“What are you trying to get at, boy? Don't think you can get at me though them. I don't care about Mokuba. He was just an unfortunate tag along.”

That definitely peeked his interest. The man had failed to mention the older one. He had failed to say anything about his angel. “I see.” He paused. It was time to play a little game with the head of Kaiba Corp. See where it led. “And Seto? What about him?” The though of Seto made him smile. Thoughts of the young man he wanted to kiss, comfort, make completely his. He had a feeling he would be having those thoughts a lot.

His smile faded when he saw Gozaburo's eyes change. There was something unhealthy about that look. Something that made his skin crawl. What the man said next made it crawl worse. “Seto...is different. He's an extraordinary boy. He's my little genius.” Pegasus couldn't help but hear the stress on the possession. The man was trying to make it painfully clear to whom the boy belonged. “And here's the door.”

The businessman opened the door and practically shoved Pegasus outside. “It would be best if you forgot everything you saw here. Seto is mine, boy. Good day.” Then the door was slammed in Pegasus's face.

The younger man restrained himself from making a crude gesture. Instead, he straightened the lapels of his suit. As he did so, he tried to calm himself. It was hard. Because now he knew. Knew beyond a doubt that there was something special about the boy inside. He might have to keep tabs on Seto Kaiba.

He returned to his car. For a second he looked back. Blue eyes stood out vividly against the darkness of open curtains. Beautiful, breathtaking eyes. “Seto.” He whispered to himself. He wanted to go back. He wanted to go inside and abduct the kid. Take him away and keep him for himself. But that was another thing Maximillion Pegasus never wanted to be considered. Kidnapping was far below him.

He sat in the car and watched the window. The boy was still there, staring out. Then a larger figure appeared to overshadow the boy. There was a brief flash of terror before a large hand whisked the curtains closed.

Pegasus brushed the hair away from his eye. The golden item caught the setting sun, making it glow a dull red, almost mirroring his true eye color. Gozaburo Kaiba's voice came back to him, unbidden, repeating over and over, making his sick to his stomach.

“Seto is mine.”

Maybe it would be better to forget about that happened here. It would be better to forget the boy with such soulful blue eyes. Besides, he had better things to do with his time. He had more important things to deal with. He had a business to run. Millennium Items to find. He had no time to dwell on the boy. And, Pegasus was sure that if he kept himself busy he would be able to forget easily. Besides, it wasn't like there weren't other boys out there in the world. Other legal boys. Yes, he could forget Seto if he really tried. The real question was did he really want to.
