When immortals fight. Chapter Eight of 'I've wanted you forever and tonight'.

~By Sweetdeily.

~~~
If you had lived a normal life for twenty years only to one day wake up a blood-sucking fiend, it is to say, at the least, that you would have trouble tolerating strange, strange things. Things that just weren't possible.
Seto Kaiba would have thought that a giant hamster ball could not sit on its own.
He would have also thought that you couldn't make stone pop up out of nowhere. Any normal person would.
"Get a move on fang face, Katsuya is waking the guardians up; it's going to get very noisy in a moment." Honda growled at the stunned vampire.
Seto shot the Fairy a glare; Honda had always annoyed him, he used to hang around Jounouchi like a disease, constantly in the way of Seto's desire. The other Fairies were looking nervous and the distinct sound of three gun's safety's flicked off. The group was shifty.
"What are the…" Seto's question died on his lips as he glazed upward, a stone pillar above them shuddered and Jounouchi's voice reached them from back down the path. A dragon sculpture sat atop that pillar and Seto swallowed. That thing wasn't about to…
Jounouchi's voice yelled something weird in some other language. The statues atop the pillars began to groan and move, as if kicking out the chinks, and then they came to life for real. The dragons roared, the nearest one kicked off its post, red snake eyes glancing down at the Fairies below before it rose in the air and its wings brought it forward. Rock and claw grated, roaring filled the air.
"Shit, time to get a move on!" Honda snarled.
"Why are we running from these guardian things?" Seto asked dumbly, he could hear the shouting from the blonde puppy and the replies from the dragons. Scary. Jounouchi sounded serious about this war thing, or well… something. Seto figured Katsuya was talking about war, he didn't speak whatever language it was the puppy was shouting.
"It's not them, it's the Elves. They'll know that the guardian's are awake. Well, it's not entirely the guardians… just get moving!" One of the retrieval team replied. Glancing fearfully at the dragons.
Seto decided to leave it be. Jounouchi was starting to worry him; he'd never noticed this side of the puppy before… what if Jounouchi wasn't who Seto thought he was? He had fallen in love with the puppy regardless, right?
Right?
"Hurry up ya' lot, da' guardian's haven't been woken in ages and 'm always worried der' hungry." Jounouchi caught up to them panting, his color was pale but he spoke with his usual vigor.
The vampire could smell blood on Jounouchi, it was a coppery smell, enticing too. The smell brought the sweet memory of the taste of Jou's blood coursing down his throat. Wet and thick, smooth, coppery, sweet…
Seto swallowed hard. His canines were getting hard.
Jounouchi had lost a bit of blood, his heart was pumping too fast, and his body was really feeling the strain.
"Did you cut yourself?" Seto asked when Jounouchi got within talking distance. He followed as the blonde kept moving, easily keeping pace with the joggers.
Jounouchi shot Seto a look. "What would ya' care?"
Seto was quiet for a moment. He could still taste Jounouchi's blood in his mouth, but he could also recall the pleasing feel of the Fairy's lips against his.
That was a taste his body longed for more of, more than blood.
More than anything.
They jogged the rest of the way to the hamster ball. It was funny, the closer they got, there didn't seem to be any doors popping out. They weren't slowing down either, which was starting to worry Kaiba when the group got within a meter of the surface. And then the lead fairies just ran straight through the metal, Seto slowed. No, just, no.
"Don't tell me it is platform nine and three quarters and this has turned into a J. K. Rowling story." The vampire hissed.
Jounouchi grabbed Seto's hand and half-dragged the vampire along, still jogging. "It's a DNA entrance, don't breathe for five seconds."
And then the chrome surface loomed before them and Seto stopped breathing as Jounouchi pulled him through. For a moment it was very much like passing through metal; it fucking hurt, then the feeling faded to a cold nothingness that settled into Seto's bones and set his teeth on edge. If his heart had of needed to be moving, it would have contracted and squeezed in that empty nothingness. He couldn't feel anything, not Jou's hand pulling him through, not his own flesh. He couldn't see or taste or move. And then they were in a nice little hallway of a mansion.
Jounouchi dropped Seto's hand and the vampire sank to the floor, hissing in pain. He wasn't sure what hurt, but something did. Probably his sense of reality.
"Can ya' 'magine tryin' ta' walk through dat' ting' slowly? I know; it really hurts." The Fairy rubbed his chest painfully.
"That… door… is not natural!" Seto growled, turning to stare hatefully at the seemingly seamless wall behind them. The wall was unimpressed, as it would be.
Jounouchi nudged the vampire with his toe. "C'mon, we have to get to the Queen and give our evidence."
Seto stood, nodding. "Fine."
But would it really be fine? Then he'd be sent home and he wouldn't see the puppy again.
Jounouchi looked like he was about to ask something but Honda chose that moment to interrupt them. "Your cousin is coming, Jou."
The blonde winced. "I wish he'd wait. C'mon Kaiba, it's a royal fuckin' day for ya' ta'day, eh?"
"I have no idea what you mean." Seto shook his head.
The vampire reached forward and touched Jou's forehead, feeling the blonde's temperature. Jounouchi was cool to the touch, and his pulse was thready, from the contact the vampire could feel the strain on the Fairy's body. Jounouchi only needed a cup-full of blood drained from him and he would pass out.
"Wuh-?"
"Just checking; you probably should take some time off soon, puppy; your body can't handle much more. Your pulse is sort of entertaining, not normal, but entertaining nonetheless."
"Jounouchi Katsuya, my dear little duke, what have you done?" A pleasant voice interrupted.
Jounouchi and Seto turned to the new arrival.
The prince of the Fairies was around 4'5, he looked about eight years old, but was probably older than Seto by a few hundred. The kid had white-blonde hair and old, old looking clothing. His blue eyes were complimented by the royal blue vest he wore over his white tunic, his pants were tight blue stitch, and would have looked too old for him were it not for the fact that he wore them, and his dainty little golden crown with such authority that it was perfect. Seto knew in an instant that the kid was a prince, what else could he have been?
"Why, my royal Highness, I've done nothin' I wasn't ordered ta' do." Jounouchi replied with a small bow.
"You little fucking shit, Jou, you woke the guardian's up as a practical joke? The Ambassador from the Elves is in a real fucking state because of that; threatening war. What shall you have us do, cousin mine, what?" The child snapped.
Seto took an instinctive step toward Jounouchi, the brat was scary. His mouth parted, canines hardening as he suppressed to desire to hiss at the kid, Jounouchi was his to yell at.
"Ya' fuckin' out of ya' fuckin' mind? I didn't do it cause I was fuckin' wit' ya'! Elves butchered da' retrieval team; bastards cut dem ta' ribbons and hung 'em up and fuckin'… it wasn't fuckin' pretty. Ya' wanna' have a go at me? Ya' wanna fuckin' take a shot? Go ahead, but we're already at war wit' dem' again and it'll be a fucking waste." Jounouchi snapped back.
The prince stepped closer, tension underlining his small body. "They killed them all? Are you sure it was Elves?"
"As sure as I know my own killing style, cousin." Jounouchi's voice came down to a bitter hiss. It was unlikely anyone but Seto and the prince heard it.
"And who is the mortal you've brought with you?" The child stepped back and looked at Seto.
Seto bowed a little, not sure how much he should bow, but figured a respectful bow would be good.
"Seto, dis' is David, David, dis' is Seto Kaiba." Jounouchi supplied.
"As in Kaiba Corporation?" David asked.
"Yes."
"Weird, I thought Seto Kaiba was dead." And then, in a very interesting way, the prince looked at Jounouchi, as if, you might say; he were grinning mentally and sending a very embarrassing thought in Katsuya's direction.
"He's a vampire." Jounouchi grumbled and glared his cousin down obviously he'd receieved the bad thought and thought little of it.
Seto took a step back. It was sort of easy to see the relationship between these two. Kind of worrisome, creepy and downright scary, but easy to see.
"Your Highness, we have to report to the Queen now." Honda murmured.
"Queens damn that woman." David muttered but motioned for the vampire to proceed.
Seto glanced at Jounouchi and caught him flipping the prince off with a one fingered salute.
What was it that David had known about him that had poked fun at Jounouchi? He was pretty sure no one knew about the fact that he'd kissed the Fairy in the elevator, but what if they had? What if they'd seen what he'd been doing when Jounouchi was asleep? Color raced itself to Seto's cheeks and he fought it away.
Jounouchi walked innocently beside him, the puppy's pulse was a little too fast, probably with all the extra blood needed, but otherwise it was alright. The blonde looked so good when he had a serious expression on his face. It was cute.
The corridor seemed to go on forever, but, eventually, after what was roughly an hour of walking, they made it to a set of huge double doors. The doors were hardwood oak, polished beautifully.
Honda turned to Katsuya and inclined his head. "My Lord."
The puppy sighed and glanced at Seto. "Stay out here. Someone will bring refreshments soon, I'd wager. Don't hurt anyone."
And then he walked up to the doors and pushed one open, slipping through quickly and shutting it behind him before anyone could see what was inside.
Kaiba sank down against a wall and turned his head, watching the activities of the retrieval team. All but Honda were leaving; the brown haired Fairy did a check of his equipment and clicked his fingers, sitting down on what looked like empty air.
They sat in silence for a while, neither liking the other enough to talk to them. There was no sound from the other room.
"He'll never be yours, you know, Kaiba." Honda finally broke the silence.
"What are you talking about?"
"I've seen the way you look at him; it is the same way you look at your little brother, or those cards that you used to like, what were they… the dragons… blue dragon green eyes, something like that. Jounouchi can't be pinned down like that, vamp. He's old enough to have started your family tree."
"Blue eyes white dragon, and I don't think about the dog that way." Seto growled out. Sticking to denial helped.
"Well then stay the fuck away from him. He's not up for grabs. Okay, get the message?" Honda pressed on aggressively.
Seto turned his cobalt eyes on the Fairy. "Are you trying to have a pissing contest with me, Honda? Because believe me; I'll win."
Honda stood and pulled out his gun, waving it around a bit. "I've heard that vamps aren't big fans of silver. Funny, neither are Elves."
"You guys seem to have a lot against Elves." Seto drew his knees up to his chest. He could dodge a speeding bullet.
"If you'd been in war with them for six hundred years, you'd understand. They're monsters. You saw the mess left of Jounouchi's team. That's what Elves do. Oh, everyone assumes Elves are graceful, long eared, poetic creatures of the woods. You fucking un-Fae are all alike. Stay away from Jou." Honda leveled the gun at Seto's head.
"Make me." The words were out of his mouth before he could stop them.
The sound of the gunshot echoed in the corridor.
A smoking hole erupted in the wall where Kaiba had been.
"I'm faster than a bullet, Honda; I'm so fast that I don't even show up on camera's if I run." Seto murmured behind the stunned Fairy.
Honda turned like lightening, gun swinging; Seto caught the Fairy's arm and felt a fist connect with his side. The vampire wrenched the metal from the Fairy's grip and tossed it down the hallway, fist smacking into the Fairy's jaw. Honda couldn't hit as hard as Seto could, and Seto barely felt the punch in his ribcage.
The pair went down, vampire on top. Honda's knee connected with Seto's chest and sent the brunette flying. Seto hit the wall and the groan of stones echoed as he rolled over and launched himself back at the Fairy, his earlier fight with Jounouchi reminding him to keep the Fairy too busy to make any extra movements. Honda couldn't move as quickly as the blonde could, and Seto easily pinned the other immortal. Honda was so much slower than Katsuya that it was almost a joke.
"Now, what did I say about a pissing contest?" Seto hissed, elbow pressing into Honda's spine.
Honda spat out a word and Seto hit the opposite wall so fast he could barely gauge his reaction. His feet curled into his body and he spun mid-air, hitting the wall with his knees and almost immediately standing again. Seto felt the rage pour from his chest into his face. Honda really should have backed down a while ago. He was starting to lose his hard-won control.
The vampire squatted, his skin starting to conform to his skull and his canines lengthening. His pupils expanded to consume all but a small ring of cobalt and red tinting the center of his eyes. Stupid Kine, he'd crush the child under his boot! (1)
Honda stopped all movement, his eyes blinking purple briefly. "What the fuck are you-"
The Fairy didn't finish the question, Seto attacked viciously.
What had started as a battle someone could escape from alive was very quickly a life-or-death match over the blonde puppy. Seto's control was questionable, the meal he'd had earlier had only taken the slightest hunger off his appetite and Honda was begging for it. He was begging to be mauled to death, like any Kine.
To the Fairy's credit he managed to throw the vampire off him three times before the spell exhaustion ate away at his reflexes and Kaiba managed to get his clawed hands around the brunette's neck. Seto's mind sort of blanked out, as it did in these kinds of situations and by chance he caught Honda's terrified purple eyes. Honda's body went very still under the rippling gaze of the immortal. The vampire's hypnotic gaze instilling something akin to paralysis.
"He's mine." Seto hissed triumphantly.
He lowered his mouth to bite the Fairy under him only to stop, mouth hovering over the frantically moving jugular beneath it. The familiar, soothing beat of Jounouchi's heartbeat rocked into his mind and he turned his head, noticing the door of the room was opening. Seto amazingly managed to drag himself off the Fairy and brought his hand to his face. Closing his eyes and willing his features back to normal. He didn't want his puppy to see him like that.
What kind of monster was he? And yet, with such an intense fight, Jounouchi was his, regardless; and he'd kill any Kine that tried to… Kine? He wasn't thinking like a person. He was thinking like a monster out of control, using words he didn't even know, just like before.
"What's goin' on out 'ere?" Jounouchi's sweet voice asked.
Seto shrugged. "Honda thought it would be interesting to wrestle a vampire." He raised his eyes from his eyes, hoping they were normal again.
Jounouchi grinned. "Been there, got bruised, ain't volunteerin' for it again. Ya' go in now, Seto, bow to her, and answer her questions."
There was no reaction to the eyes, he was under control. Seto felt his nails shrinking back into his hands.
"Should I be warned about anything before hand?"
"Yes, don't mention da' fainting." Jounouchi whispered so softly it was only audible to the vampire.
Seto nodded. As he walked toward the blonde he couldn't help but baring his fangs in a smirk. Jounouchi was so cute. The blonde turned after him, and Seto fancied he heard the soft mouthing of the word that floated on Jounouchi's mind. 'Why?'
~~~

The room into which Seto walked was some kind of European sitting room, it wasn't very large, and a fire place sat in one corner. Seto wondered where the smoke went but dismissed the question. Magic, of course. There was a quaint little table in the center of the room and four plush chairs around it. In one chair a middle-aged woman sat.

Her eyes were brown like Jounouchi's and her hair was a few shades of darker blonde, her skin was European white. Sitting, it was hard to tell her height, but Seto judged her to be very tall, somewhere over six feet, which was tall for a woman. She had a nice face, not so much beautiful, but nice. Around her head was a beautiful silver crown with a large diamond in the center. The diamond was probably worth the whole of KC stocks and its reserves.

"So are you the vampire that Duke Katsuya ran into?" Her voice was like the prince's, soft and pleasant. So harmless. So misleading.

"Yes, ma'am." Seto bowed. She was speaking English, he was lucky he knew the language. Half of his stock holders were English.

"Are you Japanese?" She asked, still in English.

"Yes."

"Very well, I will speak in your language; you are a guest in my realm, after all. I have not seen a vampire in 800 years, but I still remember what you lot are like. How is lord Deavous?" She started in Japanese. Seto listened attentively.

"I am sorry, but I know nothing of other vampires, I have never seen or met one." Seto said.

"Oh, so he was telling the truth. Damn. Where are my manners, please; sit." Her manner seemed a little childish but Seto didn't comment on it.

"Thank you." He took the chair opposite her.

The queen crossed her ankles and reclined in her chair. "It is most curious that you do not know lord Deavous or any other vampires. What of the one who made you?"

"The creatures that made me have disappeared. I have not seen them since they attacked me."

"You have no memory of the events of your transformation?"

Seto shook his head.

"Most curious. I suppose, more so for you. I had heard lord Deavous was of an afflicted disease and was hoping for an heir, but it has been 800 years, and I am sure things have changed since then. You may know, there is no ill between our kind and vampires. We do not mind the occasional slip-ups when you take from our blood."

Seto nodded passively. "That is good to know should I slip up."

"Ah, little one, you've come at a bad time. I wish that Jounouchi had no witness. That man is impossible. He would truly enjoy this chance to wipe out the Elves. I had hoped we could merely live in piece. But the Hell plane calls the blood-thirsty, and Jounouchi answers such a call."

"I don't understand, I am sorry."

"No, you would not. My apologies. Tell me, what did you see of Jounouchi's team?"

Seto swallowed, bringing the image back to his mind. "I do not really know what could have done it… but…" He told her about the remains, the dripping blood and the lifeless, horrified eyes.

The queen was silent as he spoke, her eyes rested on the little coffee table and she didn't fidget or move when his voice faltered. When he was done she sighed.

"So that boy was right." She shook her head and said something in a different language before looking at Seto again. "What is your wish concerning the war. If you want to leave, you must do so within the next few hours. The Fairy Court will be shut down as we prepare for war. I am sure you would not have come this far if you did not have some other interest in all this, so tell me, are you joining us?" There was something in her voice, like hope.

Seto leaned back in the chair. "… I have no interest in these kinds of things… but… if I agreed, would you tell me about… about the vampires?" He had to swallow before he could complete the sentence.

"If we survive. Of course. I will put you in Duke Katsuya's care, Seto Kaiba. I am sure he will see to your need of blood. You drink a cup a day, correct?"

It occurred to Seto in that instance that the queen had only used his name just then, but he had not told her what it was. She must have gotten it off Jounouchi.

A cup of blood a day? That was nothing, his hunger was deeper. "I can drain a person in one night, ma'am. In terms of cups… I think that is more than one."

"You can drain a whole person? What are you, a hunter-born?" She asked with a frown.

Seto blinked at her. "Hunter-born?"

"Oh, forget I said it, forget it child. It has been a long night and I know I do not look it, but I am old. Have the duke show you a room. By tomorrow I shall find someone willing to sate your hunger." She waved at him to go.

Seto rose and bowed softly before he left. He felt very young around that woman.
