Anzu sat in the back seat of her mothers car and stared out the window. 'Moving...' she thought as they passed the 'Welcome to Domino City' sign. 'To a place that sounds as alive as a morgue really is...' she blew her bangs back away from her face and stared up at her mother, Naomi, who was humming happily to herself. 'I can't believe she could just pack up and leave it all...just like that...I never even got to say goodbye to my friends...' tears stung her eyes as she thought about all the people who would be back home, asking for her, only to find out that she had moved away.
'And...what about...Toki...' Toki was Anzu's boyfriend, he was the only one who knew Anzu would be moving, and he wasn't to thrilled about it. They both had spent hours begging Naomi to let Anzu stay there with Toki, but it never worked.
"Cheer up, Anzu." Naomi said looking back at her daughter through the rearview mirror. "This will be fun. You'll meet a lot of new friends, and I bet Toki will just slip out of your mind when you take a look at all the cute guys that'll be here!" she smiled.
"Mom...that's not REALLY how it works for everybody..." Anzu said with a blink. "That's just how you go through things...I'm not going to forget Toki that quick...and I told him that I'd call him as soon as we get settled in."
"Ah, Anzu. You can't do this to yourself. You may never see Toki again, and you are still gonna try and pull it off over long-distance?" Naomi slowed down and shook her head. "Get up here, we are going boy hunting on the way to the new house."
"But mom..." Anzu groaned.
"Don't but mom me, now get your chicken ass up here." Naomi grinned.
Anzu groaned. "Oh, okay mom." she crawled up between the two front seats and sat in the passenger seat. "But its not like we will spot these 'hot guys' you were talking about right away."
Naomi never answered as she reached into her pocket and took out a piece of paper and then gave it to Anzu. "Here, you'll need this."
"What is it?" Anzu asked.
"The address to the new house, I'm dropping you off at the next place where I see cute guys." Naomi said looking around the sidewalks.
"Mooom. Nooo." Anzu groaned shoving the paper into her pocket.
"Oh, mom yes." Naomi said. "Ah, look over there. Next to the mall."
Anzu followed her mothers gaze as she pulled over and stopped. There were three guys there. One was tall, and has sorta longish blonde hair, the other tall guy had brown hair that was all put up into this large horn shaped thing on the front of his head, and there was this short guy, he had crazy cool spiked hair, which was blonde, black and a red color.
"Cute hey?" Naomi asked. "That short guy looks really sweet. Now get out there."
"Mom..please..." Anzu looked at her mother weakly.
"No buts, now out." Naomi said sternly. "Go get em."
Anzu groaned and got out of the car, and slammed the door shut. She watched as her mother laughed and drove away. "Dammit mother." she mumbled. She looked back at the three guys who quickly looked away from her. She raised her eyebrow and looked at the ground, and began to walk into the mall. 'Great first impression, Anzu...' she thought bitterly to herself as she got inside.
Anzu never looked up at anyone as she walked through the mall. She just took occasional glances around to see what kind of shop she had entered. 'I guess I should go out and look for the house.' Anzu said slowly taking the paper Naomi had given her out of her pocket. Then suddenly...
BANG!
"Whoa!" Anzu rammed into someone and sent them both sprawling to the floor. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" she said turning around to see who she hit, it was the boy with the crazy hair she seen in the parking lot, and his two friends where standing above them.
"No, I should be sorry...are you okay?" the boy asked looking at her.
"Yes...I'm fine..." Anzu said, she started to feel around for the paper she had dropped.
"Is this what your looking for?" Yugi asked looking at the paper. "Wow...your staying just across the road from me at the old Henson house!"
"The Henson house?" the tall blonde boy asked. He looked at Anzu. "Damn."
"My name is Yugi..." the small boy said. "This is Jou, and Honda." he said pointing to the two boys.
"I'm Anzu." Anzu said with a small smile as Jou helped her and Yugi to their feet.
"Hey, Anzu. Mind if I lead you home? You probably won't find it from here..." Yugi offered. "And like I said I DO live right across from you."
"Oh would you? Naomi left me here to meet some new friends and only gave me a piece of paper with a bunch of numbers on it." Anzu said with a small smile.
"Okay, great!" Yugi said grabbing her arm. "See you guys later!" he said to Jou and Honda before dragging Anzu off.
.~.
"So, what kind of stuff is done around here for fun?" Anzu asked as she and Yugi broke through a half hour of their walk home.
"Well, there's all kinds of sports and stuff...but me and my friends like to play Duel Monsters." Yugi answered fooling around with the overly large Pyramid charm that hung around his neck. "Its fun."
"Isn't that, that card game thing?" Anzu asked. "Back home that came and went as a fad...people didn't really know how to play it...."
"Do you?" Yugi asked.
"Yeah, I was one of the few....me, my best friend, and my boyfriend...." Anzu paused. "We were three of the best..."
"Your boyfriend?" Yugi asked looking at her.
"Yeah, his name was Toki...I miss him already..." Anzu said.
"Do he miss you though?" Yugi asked.
"You...know I don't really know." Anzu said with a sigh. "I guess it don't really matter anyway's...I'm never going to see him again...I guess its time to start over."
Yugi didn't really know what to say about this, he would have said yes...but would that make it a bit too obvious. "Hmm...maybe..."
"You know, I got a feeling I'm gonna like it here...." Anzu said with a thought.
"I think you will too, there is lost to do around here, Anzu." Yugi said. "I'll get you to meet all my friends also!"
Anzu thought for a second. "That's great, Yugi." she looked down at him and smiled.
Yugi heard a sigh from deep within him. //Your falling for another one...// the voice peeped.
/Lay off, Yami...she's new...and it'll be great for her to have some new friends./ Yugi answered in his head.
//Yugi, I live inside of you, in your head. Don't tell me you aren't already falling for her, I know.// Yami said.
/But, Yami...just...look at her....she's beautiful.../
//That she maybe, but she won't be here for very long, that house she's staying in is cursed...you know that...everyone knows that. She and her mother will be gone in no time.//
Yugi sniffed. /Nah, I don't believe in that stuff./
//Then why do every family that buys that place end up running away from it screaming and never coming back?//
/I don't know..../
//See...// Yami paused. //Also, I feel some Yin energy coming from her.//
/Yin?/
//Dark. Its like...she has some sort of...magic within her...its like I met her somewhere before...or knew someone like her.//
/Okay now your just freaking me out, Yami./ Yugi said as they finally got to the Game Shop, and the Henson house. "Here we are, Anzu." Yugi said.
"Wow..." Anzu said looking up at the old house. "...freaky..." she looked over at Naomi, who was unloading the car. She then turned to Yugi. "Well thanks, I'll give you a shout later on...bye..." she ran up to Naomi, and Yugi waved and went over to the Game Shop.
"Mm...hmm...." Naomi grinned as she watched Yugi cross the road. "So you did meet those guys after all..."
"Yeah..." Anzu said taking a box from the car.
"Aren't you going to thank me?" Naomi looked at her daughter with a smirk.
"Mm...no." Anzu said. "I'd rather not."
"But you will admit I was right..." Naomi said. "..so..what's his name?"
"Yugi." Anzu said. "The other two was Jou and Honda."
"So you went for the short one." Naomi said with a laugh. "Good choice..."
"Mom! Quit it..." Anzu said. "Now, please show me our new old house."
"Oh, your gonna love it!" Naomi made Anzu drop the box, and ran her into the house.
Anzu looked around. The door lead right into the kitchen and diningroom, over from that in another large room was the livingroom, and in the living room there was a staircase leading up to the second floor. "There is only one room upstairs, the rest is halls, the bathroom, and a really big room that we will use for the livingroom." Naomi said. "There is also a door leading up to the attic."
"That's where I will be..." Anzu said with a sniff.
"Are you sure?" Naomi asked.
"Oh yeah." Anzu said. "I want to be far away from all human society."
"What about Yugi and his friends?" Naomi asked.
Anzu shrugged. "They'll soon find out they won't like me. I don't honestly care."
"Anzu..." Naomi sighed.
"Now if you'll excuse me...I'm going to get my things." Anzu walked back out of the house.
.~.
"Hello? Is Toki there?" Anzu asked, she sat up in the attic surrounded by her boxes of things, her dresser, her bed, and her desk.
"Hello?" Toki said as he picked up the phone.
"Hey baby..." Anzu said with a smile.
"Anzu! Oh my gosh, hi!" Toki said loudly, as if trying to hush someone. "Your there in your new house already?"
"Yeah. But I'm staying in the attic..." Anzu said.
"Really? What's it like?" Toki asked.
"Well..." Anzu looked around. "It has some cobwebs in the corners, its pretty big...too big for me to spread my stuff around to make it look like I have lots of stuff."
"Ha! Sounds like you have a lot of work to do to make the place look roomy and lived in." Toki said with a laugh.
"Yeah...so how are things home?" Anzu asked.
"Well...Tini just found out you left...and she's really upset..." Toki said.
"Oh. I better call her."
"Nah, she's probably out." Toki said quickly. "You know, to that place she goes to when she's upset..."
"Oh...okay."
"Well baby I gotta go..." Toki said. "I'll call you later..."
"Okay...bye..." Anzu said hanging up the phone. She looked around. "...he never asked for my phone number..."
