If You Only Knew

AS: Hmm...okay, this first chapter is just gonna be one big rant fest, and then I'll get back to the regular authors notes. First off, I have to apologize for my rather lengthy absence. My cousin spent about three weeks here, and I got into this big Kingdom Hearts thing, so, my mind was about 9,000 miles that way *points right* from Yu-Gi-Oh!. But, now, the cousin is gone and the muses are working overtime to make up for my absence, so, thank them.

First of all, I have to make thank you's and give the proper credit and explain a few things. First, the explicative portion. This is the first book in a four part arc, I have dubbed "The Elemental Series". An, so you shall see why. This is a mainly Yu-Gi-Oh! Fic, but, it shall have some slight (very slight) crossovers with the .hack video games and the Slayers series. Mind you they are so slight, you shouldn't even notice them, unless you are an avid fan of both.

Now, to the thank you's and credit giving's. First off, I'd like to thank my Bakura muse, or my niichan as I so affectionately call him, and Diartemis' (Or Tsunami Objective's) Jounouchi-neko muse for working around the clock to help push inspiration into my head. It worked, boys. Take a rest. Next, I would like to thank Wingleader Sora Jade for being the final push in my decision to start the series. I normally don't read Het in the area of Yu-Gi-Oh, but, she attracted me with her Yami's at Tokyo U: Freshman story, and now has pushed a favourite, albeit odd, het pairing into my field of vision. (Ryou/Shizuka). I never thought that would happen. And, last, but not least, is Twoflower. He is the author of the Slayers Trilogy. If you are a fan, even slightly, of the series, this is a must read. I am thanking him, because I'm using his elementals. They are his credit, not mine. I'm simply borrowing the names.

Now, for the warnings...

Warnings: This story contains/will contain shounen-ai/yaoi pairings. Slight crossovers with Slayers and .hack. Language, violence, romance, action, adventure and slight spirituality abound in this fic. If you do not like any of the aforementioned genre's and/or situations. DON'T READ. This story is also AU, and characters may be slightly OOC at times. Have no fear, the items will still play a role, though it's a minor one. This author also tends to put characters into situations which leave the readers guessing and wondering and slowly going insane in which they have to chunk things at her and threaten with bodily harm to get her to unravel the truth. Again, if you do not like any of the aforementioned situations, genre's or mentioned writing style, DON'T READ THIS FIC!!!.

Pairings (for this chapter): Love/Loathing/Luck, Reason/Paradox/Drama, Myth/Nightmare

Prologue: When it All Began

Pale hands ran gently over the swirling blackish purple haze of darkness. They dipped into it, and slowly drew themselves out, clutching at the Nothingness. Thin fingers toyed with the darkness, making it take on random forms of the yet undecided whim of their master. The fingers pressed, molded, manipulated and tore at the darkness of which only they could see. Thin, almost white lips smiled lightly as an idea came to the owner. The fingers began to work once more, resuming their ministrations until the nothingness began to take on a form that was slowly becoming tangible and recognizable.

It was complete. The darkness glowed slightly, taking on colour and slowly coming to life. A puppy, created from nothingness, began to whimper and whine in its helpless state of blindness. The smile on the thin, white lips grew and the white haired being stood, her big striking blue eyes looking down at the endless nothingness below her feet. With her free hand, she parted the darkness and sent the puppy to Earth, to begin its life. And, with that done, the darkness closed, and the girl once again sunk to her knees and looked out at the nothingness, a familiar feeling of warmth and happiness spreading throughout her being.

"Creating life from nothing, are you Aura?" A deep, ageless voice called out. The girl looked over her shoulder and giggled.

"Why, of course, Drama. You should give it a try." Aura said, her light, airy voice, just as ageless as his own.

"It's reasonable." a smaller, still ageless voice said from beside Drama, as he stepped into Aura's field of view. Long, striking red hair tipped in gold fell over Drama's shoulders and back, ending right above his hips. His narrowed eyes were gentle, and reminded one of the setting sun. He held a regal air about him, and wherever he was, things happened because that was how they were. There rested an assortment of masks in the pockets of his fiery orange robe.

Beside him was a shorter male, his thick back hair cropped short, slightly above his shoulders. His face wasn't serious nor calm, simply reasonable. His eyes were wide, a deep blue colour that showed vast knowledge and many questions begging to be asked and answered, both unending. Glasses were hooked firmly on the neckline of his long, plain robe.

"Have you given it a try yet, Reason?" Aura asked, standing. She shook her silvery robe gently, shaking off the bits of Nothingness that clung to her. Reason shook his head, and gave a small smile.

"I have yet to. But, I shall soon." Reason said, sliding his hand into Drama's. The three walked off towards the "house" they had created, where the others were waiting.

"You should have seen the puppy she made, Love. It was really cute. And of a reasonable size and shape. Nothing weird like the stuff Luck makes." Reason gushed to the auburn haired boy. A warm smile stretched itself across Love's lips. Aura blushed at the praise that she received. She was always creating things on a whim. A snort came from beside Love.

"I hate puppies." the accented, ageless voice growled. Love slapped his lover on the arm playfully.

"Quit being such a grouch, Loathing." the brown eyed boy reprimanded. The other rolled his red eyes and sat quietly, stealing glances at the redhead on the other side of the room. Luck really stood out, with his fire engine red hair and amethyst eyes. He was quite loud, as well, and was currently in the process of pissing off Paradox.

"Your voice annoys me! Your robes annoy me! You annoy me!" Paradox growled at the redhead. He grabbed the fabric of the yellow robe, and his rough look instantly disappeared as he ran his fingers over it.

"Can you make me one?" he asked. Paradox had always been weird like that. The honey blonde haired boy always seemed to switch personalities at the drop of a hat. But, it was normal. Dark, almost black, eyes stared up into the ones of the other.

"But, of course! You're lucky I like you so much!!" Luck said, grinning wildly. He pulled a large chunk of Nothingness from the floor and began to mold and shape it expertly. The red eyed boy, who had watched the whole situation ran his fingers through his long, brunette hair and sighed. He hated how nice Luck was to everyone.

"I just noticed something." Aura spoke up suddenly. All eyes were on her.

"Where's Myth and Nightmare?" she asked. Paradox snorted.

"Trying to 'make life' again, I'd wager. The bastard is far more interested in death and pain...whatever the hell those are." Paradox said gruffly.

"I hope they're alright." he added absently.

"Why, we're fine, Paradox." a smooth voice said. Everyone quickly acknowledged the arrival of Nightmare. And, if it had not been for the pale skin they all possessed, showing through his robes, one would think that he was not there. His name suited him, as he looked like something you might see in one of your worst nightmares.

The only way to be able to describe Nightmare in five words or less was simple; black. He matched the atmosphere. His robes were black, his hair was black. In fact, his hair was so black, you couldn't really tell if he had any, unless you felt it with your own fingers. (No one, aside from Myth and himself knew how long it actually was, but, rumour amongst them speculated that it was dragging on the ground. They never did bother to ask.) His eyes were the same as his hair. Black. It was impossible to tell if he had any pupils, and, if it weren't for the whites of his eyes, it would be impossible to tell if he had any eyes at all!

"Hello, Nightmare." Aura said pleasantly. Nightmare gave her a slow smile and quickly walked over to join the group gathered around the couch. He sat on the arm of the couch, next to Love, who was quietly teasing his brunette haired lover about staring at Luck. Loathing did nothing more except growl lowly and glare hatefully.

"Where is Myth?" she asked. Nightmare reached up and ran his fingers through her white hair lightly, sighing a bit.

"He's asleep." he said sweetly. Aura nodded her head, causing her long, white locks to slip from his fingers smoothly, like silk.

"Tell me, Aura. How is it that you do it?" he asked suddenly. Aura blinked, her blue eyes full of confusion.

"What do you mean, Nightmare?" she asked, confused.

"Create life from this Nothingness. And the things that you create are so beautiful, like you are, my dear. When I try it, my creations end up ugly and lost." he said, sounding a bit sad. Aura's face creased in slight sadness. Nightmare had been obsessed with life, death and pain for the longest time. They knew somewhat of life, as they could create it at their whim. They knew nothing about these supposed "pain" and "death", however. And it constantly piqued Nightmare's curiosity.

Reason had said that all things had an opposing force. In fact, there was two of them that were opposing forces, Love and Loathing. Reason also pointed out that one could not be without the other, and they went together better than anything. And, thus, they had come up with the names for these forces, but, had yet to discover what they all were.

The first they had discovered was light and dark. The place they lived was dark, and the world below them was full of light. The next they discovered was the two of them that opposed themselves, Love and Loathing. And they had discovered many more, like pleasure, which they knew of, and pain, which was still a mystery to them. But, the final one that they had discovered was life and death. And both still puzzled them all, but not like Nightmare who had practically centered his life around it. It intrigued him. Reason had said that he was simply bored and had nothing better to do with all his time, since Myth was such a playful and social person, unlike his lover, who tended to want to relax.

"I really don't know, Nightmare. I just...do." Aura said, smiling apologetically at her somewhat pathetic explanation. Nightmare smiled at her gently and took his hand in his.

"I know what it is, Aura, dear." he said. Aura tilted her head slightly and gave Nightmare a curious look.

"Your creations are so beautiful and perfect because you give them a soul, Aura. That is what it is." Nightmare said. He got on his knees in front of her, and grasped her hand desperately.

"Make life with me, Aura!" he said suddenly. All the chatter around them stopped and everyone was now looking at them. Aura blinked, not really knowing what to say.

"Make life with me, Aura!" Nightmare repeated, his face in a full blown smile.

"But, won't Myth be mad?" Aura asked. Nightmare shook his head quickly.

"Of course not! Please, Aura." he pleaded. Aura pulled her hand away from Nightmare's and shook her head, smiling.

"No, that's okay, Nightmare. I don't want Myth to get mad. But, maybe later, if I talk with him about it, I will." she said calmly. Nightmare's face fell, and he nodded.

"Alright." he said softly. She gave him an apologetic look. She didn't want to let Nightmare down like that, but, she didn't want Myth mad at her, either. She liked the sandy blonde haired boy, as much as she liked everyone else. They were her friends, the only thing that she had ever known, and didn't know if she could stand it if one of them was mad at her for something.

The next thing that happened was unexpected. Nightmare growled and launched his hands foreward, fingers curled into claws, into Aura's eyes. He moved so fast no one had time to register what was happening until it had already come to pass. Aura screamed, blood pooling around the fingers that were buried in her sockets and pouring down the pale, white flesh of her face. It hurt. This was pain.

Nightmare cackled madly as Aura's screams continued, the blood from her eyes slowly tracing it's crimson path down the skin of his hands. No one moved to help their friend. They were clueless as to what to do. This had never happened before!! That wouldn't matter, however, as the very existence that surrounded them began to shake.

"You Have Disobeyed My Orders." thundered an omnipotent voice in their ears. The blood in their veins froze. Even Aura had stopped screaming.

Everything went white.

Ooooh! Am I evil or what?! ^_^. Yeah, this is going to be a Yu Gi Oh story. I know it does seem like it. And you know what? Because I'm nice, I'm going to give you a little itty bitty clue.

Characters of Yu Gi Oh are the Elements. *points to the story* Which, if you haven't guessed, are Aura, Drama, Reason, Love, Loathing, Paradox, Luck, Myth and Nightmare. And the place they were at? Well, I'll leave you to figure that out. ^_^ Another hint, it wasn't heaven. Now! If you want to take a stab at who you think each element is, be my guest. Just place the answers in your review, and leave your e-mail address. If you get them right, I'll e-mail you and tell you. If you didn't, well, then you'll just have to wait. ^_^

And remember: AURA IS THE ONLY GIRL. All the rest were male. ^_^. Yup. There's the big difference in Twoflower's version of them and mine. Myth, Luck, Love, and Reason were all female. Aura didn't even exist. I added her in there as a bit of a crossover. If you know what I'm talking about then, well, good for you! That's always a plus. She intrigues me.

Oh and the making life thing is actually *cough* having sex. They just don't call it that. You'll understand why as the story moves along.

But, I'm babbling again. Damn! I hate it when I do that! Normal Alpha Slave layout will return next chapter, so, have no fear. Normal prechapter with the authors notes, being accompanied by arguing muses or possible singing and the odd little tidbit I put before and after the warnings and pairings segment. XD my spell check had "prechapter' as "preceptor". XD. Anyway.

Until next time, Duel Stand Bai!!
