Chapter 5, I am God's Fire

A/N: From here on, I don't have a beta. I tried to revise it as best I could.

* * * Yami's POV

A/N: I researched herbal remedies for alcoholism. Those 3 plants are the ingredients for that remedy. Tomodachi means friend. Alfalfa. The leaves of this remarkable legume contain eight essential amino acids. Alfalfa is a good laxative and a natural diuretic. Alkalizes and detoxifies the body, especially the liver. Alkalizing and detoxifying the body, and liver, make this plant part of the remedy for alcoholism. The leaves of this plant are used.

Melissa officinalis, also known as lemon balm. Lemon balm relaxes the nervous system producing sleep. This calms the shakes or jitters some people experience as part of withdrawal effects from alcohol. The leaves of this plant are used.

(3) Milk Thistle has been used in Europe as a remedy for liver problems for thousands of years. Milk thistle nutritionally supports the liver's ability to maintain normal liver function. It has shown positive effects in treating liver damage due to drug and alcohol abuse. The seeds of this plant are used.

I shivered, chilled by the night air in Yuugi's backyard. He identified the various herbs and plants that grew there. I picked a handful of Alfalfa (1) leaves from a large patch. Next, I grabbed a bunch of leaves from a plant about one foot high, Melissa officinalis, also known as lemon balm (2). After that, I dug into the flowers of a spiked leafed plant, Milk Thistle (3) to snatch some seeds.

Having all the ingredients to make the remedy, I raced back into Yuugi's house to the kitchen. I filled the teakettle with water, placing it on the stove. After a few minutes, the kettle whistled. I poured the boiling water in a mug, soaking the leaves and seeds in it for five minutes. Then I strained it, smelling a pleasant lemon-like aroma rise from the tea.

"Your here!" cried Zadkiel, relieved to see me, in Jounouchi's room.

I sat Jounouchi up in bed, propping a pillow behind his back. I held the mug to his mouth, tilting it slightly to let him drink it. After a while he started to relax, feeling the effect of the lemon balm. It calmed his nervous system, making him sleepy. His shakes began to subside too, as his nervous system settled down.

"Jounouchi-kun," I whispered, sitting beside him.

He breathed heavenly, from the stress of the withdrawal effects before. Sweat beads trickled down his face, falling onto the collar of his shirt. Even that was drenched with sweat.

"Yami-kun," he uttered, in a hushed voice. "Ya saved my life."

I held his hand tightly, listening to what he said. He squeezed my hand back, to show how thankful he felt.

"I'm so sorry fer how I acted before," he admitted, sighing heavily.

"It's alright. Just let it go, Jounouchi-kun," I begged him gently, clasping his hand tightly with both hands now. "You've suffered so much."

His eyes met mine, in a momentary glance. "How do you know?" his expression seemed to say.

"I know because I see the suffering in your eyes, tomodachi." I recalled seeing his chocolate pools filled with that umber fire, the moment we met. In that blazing fire was years of self-hatred, anger and emotional abuse inflicted by others. He locked that pain deep inside his heart. Now, that pain showed itself directly in his pools, like a tortured soul crying out for help. "Tell me about your suffering."

"Suffering?" He sighed again, thinking about his past. "Alright, I'll tell ya."

He told me one of his most painful childhood memories.

* * * Jounouchi's POV, telling Yami his memory

I was four years old. My father came home drunk one night.

"Daddy! Daddy!" I cried, running up to him.

He ignored me, chugging down a bottle of whisky. "Git away, ya damn brat!" he hollered, at the top of his lungs.

My mother rushed in, alerted by my father's shouting.

"Katsuya-chan! I'll handle this!" she said, stepping in front of me.

"I can't believe I married a drunken bastard like you!" she wailed. Suddenly, she winced feeling my unborn sister Shizuka kick in her stomach.

"Shaddup, woman!" he growled back, huskily.

."How could you do this, loving alcohol over than your own family!?" she cried out, her voice full of pain.

"Daddy doesn't love us!" I whimpered, aloud. "He loves his alcohol more!"

"You're absolutely right, Katsuya-chan. He's an alcoholic, that's why!" retorted my mother fiercely, agreeing with me.

"I dunno whatcha talking about," babbled my father, incoherently.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about!" she hissed at him.

"Daddy doesn't know. It's the alcohol. Let's run away, Mommy. I'm scared!" I shrieked, scared to death, clutching my mother's leg.

"Shaddup!" he roared again, glaring at my mother and I.

She stormed out of the house, taking me with her. We drove out of town to her mother's place. My father tried to follow us, only to end up in a car accident, as the alcohol impaired his driving. He stayed in the ICU for a week, before his transfer to the regular hospital units. Then, he was sent to a mental ward, to undergo physiological therapy.

* * * Yami's POV

"That was only the first, of the painful experiences I suffered from, throughout my life," he explained, sighing again.

"I'm so sorry," I said, tenderly to him. "I can sense though, telling me about that memory has helped you release some of your pain. Please, tell me about another memory, Jounouchi-kun," I asked, still clasping his hand.

"Okay, Yami-kun," he agreed, soberly.

* * * Jounouchi's POV, telling about another memory

A/N:

Legend tells us that Uriel stands at the gate of the Lost Eden with a fiery sword. The Lost Eden is a term describing forgetting to Love God. The fiery sword shows that negative matter (selfish and unpure desires) are destroyed when one truly focuses their love on God. In this legend Uriel reminds humanity to Love God by using the "fire of God" (by using the fiery sword). Uriel teaches the path of the heart, the fire of pure Love. Uriel's symbol of an open hand holding a flame depicts a great gift to humanity. It is the flame of Love to ignite the heart in service to God. Uriel holds out the flame of Love towards all souls. The soul by filling with the flame of Love becomes devoted to serving God's plan.

Uriel means "fire of God." Uriel appears in Milton's Paradise Lost where he is the 'Regent of the Sun' and 'sharpest-sighted spirit of all in Heaven.' Aura: Purple & Gold
flecked w/ruby.

Five years later, I was nine. Shizuka was four. We stayed at my mother's house during the time my father was hospitalized. After that, the mental ward sent him to a rehabilitation center, for further treatment in the northern area of Japan. My mother felt it was safe, so we moved back to Domino. She brought a new house, down the street from Yuugi's. The Mutou family welcomed us, and that's how Yuug and I became friends.

My mother had a hard time, working full time to support the family. Sugoroku was kind enough to baby-sit Shizuka during the day, allowing me to stay there with Yuug, after school.

One day, Sugoroku and my mother decided to take Shizuka, Yuug and I to the beach. The weather was great! Not a cloud in the sky hid the sun's warm rays. Sugoku and my mother relaxed on the beach, chattering together. Shizuka, Yuug and I played in the waves. Nothing could ruin that perfect day, or so I thought.

Everyone forgot the rehabilitation center released my father a week ago. He drove into the neighbored, asking people where mother and I were. Someone told him we went to the beach for the day.

A car pulled into the beach parking lot, the driver slamming madly on the breaks. My father came out, hiding something behind his back. Everyone froze, scared for their life.

"Long time, no see honey," called out my father, approaching Suguroku and my mother.

They both trembled, too terrified to move or speak.

My father's face became twisted with anger, at the sight of Sugoroku. He growled, pulling out the object he'd hidden. A gun! "So ya been cheating on me with this old man?" he aimed the barrel at Sugoroku, ready to pull the trigger.

"Dear child of God, I ask in God's love, that you drop that gun, please," commanded the deep, celestial voice of a fully-grown man.

All eyes turned to Yuugi as he spoke those words. His eyes changed to a bright flaming red color, burning with divine love. I saw that fire hidden in Yuug's eyes before, but this was the first time it truly showed itself.

Radiating this divine presence, Yuugi marched fearlessly up to my father, who pointed the barrel of his gun to Yuugi's forehead. My father moved closer, shoved the cold steel of the barrel into Yuugi's forehead. Still calm, Yuugi didn't flinch or display the slightest trace of fear.

"What the hell! Who the f**k are ya!?" hissed my father, scowling.

"I am archangel Uriel, one of the seven who stand before the throne of God," he spoke in his resonant, angelic voice. "I ask of you again, please drop that gun."

"F**K YOU!!!" cursed my father, pulling the trigger now.

Yuugi's aura materialized, pushing my father back a few feet. I'd never seen anything so beautiful. Purple and gold particles of light danced together, swirling in Yuugi's aura. Vivid flecks of ruby sparkled too, amongst the dance of the purple and gold.

My father dropped his gun, screamed and hightailed it back to his car, slamming on the gas pedal. Suguroku and my mother passed out shocked by the whole event. Shizuka and I just stared.

Yuugi's aura dematerialized, the fire in his eyes left, and then he turned around, smiling at Shizuka and I. I smiled back, feeling a divine love overpower me.

Since that day, I've believed Yuugi is an angel.

* * * Yami's POV

I was blown away. What my koi said about knowing whom Uriel was, before he came to Earth made sense. They must of known each other in Heaven.

"So I knew Yug-san as Raphael in Heaven before?" Yuugi asked me, telepathically.

I nodded to him, in our soul room.

"I understand now, who I became that day on the beach. Jou-kun has helped me to awaken," he said, softly. "Thank you for saving Jou-kun," he thanked, hugging me from the bottom of his heart.

I smiled, holding him tightly in my arms. "Your welcome. Now, go meet your koi, okay?" I said, gently, urging him.

* * * Yuugi's POV

I came to back to full consciousness, taking over my body now. I laid the sennen puzzle on the dresser in front of Jounouchi's bed, so I could fully transform. I realized my transformation on the beach many years ago, was only a partial one.

I closed my eyes, inhaling. I asked my angelic self within to awaken. It understand what I said, beginning the transformation, immediately. My aura materialized, concealing me in its brilliant light. That inner fire of love, deep inside my soul emerged, burning in my eyes once again, as a flaming red, for I am God's Fire.

I fluttered my little wings, the same size as Yugi's, except my feathers were a bit longer, differing in color. The upper part of my wings shone a bright, sunny gold in color, radiating a soft yellow glow. That color ran into a vivid orange, in the middle area of my wings, the orange being the same hue of a tropical sunset. The orange turned into a burning red, near the bottoms of my wings.

I wore a white cotton robe, hemmed right above my ankles, which also covered my arms. It was made of the purest white I ever laid eyes upon, much cleaner that the snow, that fell on Mount Fuji's peak. The fabric draped smoothly from my shoulders, with only a few folds under my arms. Below my minted, golden belt, many small gathers formed, growing larger, until they smoothed out by my knees.

I noticed a soft red hue tinting my robe, to a light red shade. My robe reflected the fiery glow of my wings. I dimmed my aura, to reveal to Jounouchi, my true angelic form

"So beautiful," exclaimed Jounouchi, bedazzled by my beauty. His lips curled up into a charming, sweet smile. "I love you so much, koi!" he cried out, jumping into my arms.

"How I love you too, Jou-kun!" I cried, embracing him tightly.

* * * Yugi's POV

"Uriel's love!" I exclaimed, leaving Zadkiel behind in Yuugi's room.

I transformed into my radiant, angelic self, dashing into bedroom where Jounouchi, Yuugi and my koi were.

"URIEL!! It's you!" I shouted, overjoyed to see him.

"RAPHAEL!" he cried back, crying tears of joy. "I've missed you so much!" he said, hugging Jounouchi on the bed.

I leapt onto the bed, joining Yuugi and Jounouchi in their embrace. Yuugi outstretched both fiery wings, covering me with one, and his koi with the other.

"I'm so happy to see you, Uriel," I wept, crying onto his shoulder.

"We forgot who we were, after we left Heaven, both of us in search of true love," Yuugi recalled, snuggling between Jounouchi and I.

"You found Jounouchi-kun!" I said.

"And I found you, my Aibou," added Yami, materializing out of the sennen puzzle in his spirit form.

I looked over at my shoulder, smirking at Yami.

"It looks like things might work out, after all," said Yami, grinning back, sounding optimistic.

Zadkiel came in, delighted to see that things were improved. //I know things will work out// he thought.
